Emily is very lucky. Most young men can't tell the difference between ratchets, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 in drives, basic math sockets, SAE/Metric, pliers, or what torque means, etc, and the use of any hand tools. Great inspirational video with your Dad - the master mechanic.
Yes he is thank you
@@theetravisbho's Emily? Nevermind bud, stupid question...lmao
We're in good hands with these young dudes like Travis & Junkyard Digs knowing how to work on these old rigs.
Oh wow, I'm older then your Dad by 4 months, My birthday is in May 12, 1965.
Yeah, dude "We rebuild things" not just buy new parts! Man I just fall in love in this car!
It is really nice to watch you and your dad.
I am from Germany and I love old US steel.
We have a M880 Dodge Pickup, 1978 Mercury XR7 and a 1965 Imperial.
It good to see that you repair things instead of changing every part.
Need a front loader, @ 56' and a Clark to take off a tire.., lol.., Love it! Father and Son doing a terrific job with this Newport. Not enough families anymore, work together like this. Its inspiring.
She’s a beast I love it!!!
So glad she’s getting a new lease on life these old cars are really pieces of art
Greetings from Greece, this car is really huge for our standards (and space) here in Europe, but has a clean design and the motor sounds healthy. I really like how you show the repair procedure of every part and give tips. I personally do not like the rusted surfaces but paintjob is expensive sport and I understand.
The wheels are awesome though! Keep up the great work, looking forward for the sequel episodes of this car.
Thank you for the feedback from Greece!
I get why you don't like the rusted body panels and all, but over here I think people have grown accustomed to the look of these old cars that have rusted in a desert for so long and think it looks pretty cool really. It gives a car extra character because no two cars will rust the same.
for some reason it's satisfying watching people use brake-clean on brakes.
I’ve been bed-bound for days from the flu and watching these videos has saved my sanity. Love watching this build. Great detail and very entertaining!
Thanks for watching means a lot !
Same here brother🫶🏻
Hey man ...don't throw all that good stuff out from the back seat ...action figures, model car parts ...one man's trash is another man's gold!
I cant believe i watched the whole one hour video straight without pause. This is entretainment.
I just started watching, I have a 73’ Ford F-250 and a 73’ Impala that I am working on at the moment, I love seeing the father/son combo working on these old rigs, makes a guy wish I still had my dad around…. Good videos man, keep doing what you’re doing!
I just did a 400 mile road trip in my 5.7 diesel Pontiac Grand Prix that was sitting for 11 years. Way fun.
That 1963 Cushman scooter was built in my hometown, Lincoln, Nebraska. That's where I grew up before moving to Colorado. We would see Cushman scooters everywhere in town.
The patina on this car is perfect. This is literally a perfect patina car, slap some clear coat on and ur GOLD!
when i was in college..my buddy had one..and the miles and smiles as we cruised..and the cold beers..and me, pushing back the thoughts of studying for another day..
A note on copper crush washers and reusing them- In the aviation industry, they are commonplace, and to really freshen them up, hang them on a piece of baling wire and heat them cherry red with a torch, then dunk them in water til cool. This anneals the copper to new softness, allowing them to seal better. Old copper crush washers become age-hardened and tend to not seal well. Of course, you can’t do this with rubber-lined crush washers. Keep up the great content!
Love seeing you and your father,,your videos are awesome,,,just to throw it out there I'm from 1966😊
Glad to see someone pack wheel bearings the correct way. Love the Old Chryslers!!
Cheers,
Bugs
This car reminds me so much of my grandma’s 71 Plymouth Sport Fury. Great car I wish I could find it. Absolutely right about the copper washer it’s happened to me more than once.
Painting the edges red was a good touch reminded me of the old redline tires. I will always be in love with Chrysler fender turn signals. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
Thank you Shane !
As a Minnesota resident I'm envious as to how clean this car is. Great content. I'll be back for sure.
Good job showing how to do a complete brake job. It helps to have access to a garage like yours and a helper like your dad.
OMG!! “Jerome’s shoes are a little tight.” Good sshtuff! I almost spit my drink out!
Plus your dad deserves so much attention = because they tought us what to do the correct way
I had a 69 4 dr Impala about 10 yrs ago.. it was my daily driver.. this reminds me of it so much.
It's just the little nostalgic finds that makes buying these old cars such more interesting and fun
My Dad bought my Mom a 3 yr old 1970 Newport just like this (except turquoise) and kept it running for another maybe 5 yr. I was the designated pedal pumper during brake bleeding. Memories, very cool.
i have owned a few big chryslers of that year.very well made cars.the fuselage styling when equipped with the smaller 318 v8 actually got very good milage for a big car. nice to see a vehicle that has some life left to it. (a vehicle not from north carolina) haha old vehicles from here always need lots of welding .great channel good luck on your 500 mile trip
Thank you will post an update for sure
I just found your channel today and I have learned a lot about drums by watching you go through them on a few videos now. I recently bought a 1967 four door post impala, and it's complete with it's orignal 396, also not missing a single piece of trim or anything. Unfortunately it was parked for about 35 years. Thank you for your sharing your experience and know how! I am no mechanic but I've now rebuilt these brakes to the point where they are working fantastic. I definitely have the confidence to takle anything this care throws at me now. Thank you so much!
Awesome glad you could learn something
Thanks for showing me how much fun I’d have if I grabbed this ‘70 Fury sedan (318, a/c, power disc front brakes) out of the local yard. You saved me! Last affordable mopars. I blame gumball rally (the police car was a ‘69-72 Polara), & this tall gal in h.s. who had a gold Fury that was “planed out”(like a boat) every time I saw her quickly exiting the parking lot, for liking these fuselage era ‘69-‘73 C-body sedans.
I just bought me a 73 newport and everything works on it. So good to see I'm not the only crazy out there. I have been looking for cool abandoned things in all my buys but so far......nothing good. Well at least not a bowling ball
Warning, danger, Will Robinson. On that front corner where you omitted the brake adjuster cable..... You put the drum on with no bottom spring! You can get by without the cable, as you said. But NOT without a SPRING on the bottom!
Certain Chrysler Plymouth models with Extra Heavy duty 11 inch drum brakes, 11x3 front came without self adjustment as late as 1969. For example, a few C bodies like yours with Trailer Towing brakes or police brakes. And the Plymouth 69 GTX with Trac Pac.
What they show is the same basic system but with a single heavy spring going from the bottom of one shoe to the bottom of the other. The spring rubs in the top of the star wheel, in effect keeping it from rotating by itself and giving a resistance when it is adjusted from a brake spoon in the little slots in the the backing plate.
If you can not find the adjuster cable for your car, try to find the spring for one of the heavy duty brake cars.
You may even be able to just use the spring you have.
I don't think you'll get far with that brake as it is. The adjuster may drop down and the bottom edges of the friction surface may drag.
The build sheet! Favorite part. I couldn’t believe I found one in the 64 Mercury, they had it under the carpet up front on the trans tunnel. Too bad about the seat eating that one up. Mine was tarred up and ripped a bit but it still had cool details on it
Sleeperdude, polebarngarage, PUDDINS FAB SHOP and now you.....i love the international
Vice Grip Garage cant be wrong.....
What a sweetheart Emily is to go on a thousand Mile ride in a crusty Dusty rusty old Mopar!
😂 she’s funny.
I like that you like to rebuild the originalaster cylinder.
Always been a fan of the old C body Mopars. The cooper cobras was the right choice. Well done
Thanks Brent !
Man... awesome job on this ride... looks amazing..👍👍
Thank you!
Brings back memories of my first car a 1970 Newport 2 door.
The fender lights are signal indicators . When the car was my uncle’s I thought they were the coolest !
Loved this video, that's one of my favorite Chrysler models. She has so much personality in the front grill. She really needs a name
Man I love those old cars.
Stay safe.
And be the best you can be in everything you do in life 🙏
You and finding full sets of perfect hubcaps!! Huge score, this one and the 60 impala
Good video.... Like the white letter tires. Amazing how these old cars just start!
I’ve been watching your channel for some time and it’s the most enjoyable channel right up there with the best biography’s which I’ve been addicted too from my youth.
I love your approach… that’s everything to me, very pragmatic, just the way I think. You e taught me a few things along the way… thanks!
Appreciate the words thank you
That Chrysler is “The Balls”! The whole wheel paint color was a great idea.
You might be able to get the heater core rebuilt. The housing it fits in also holds the AC evaporator core. Take apart from inside the car. There is a rubber hose with a wave kink toward its bottom that is made to let condensation drip down onto the pavement. That part is on the front half of the housing. Make sure that hose is not stopped up with dirt and/or leaves etc. When you put the housing back together be sure to use some caulk along the bottom edge and up at least 1/2 way up the sides of the mating surfaces. Otherwise you may have leaks of condensation down onto the carpet and floor. I fought that problem on a '73 New Yorker I owned years ago.
Enjoyed your video and look forward to seeing more
That great car has been sat waiting for you for 44 years to bring it back to life . Very enjoyable watch, thank you . Greetings from the U.K.
👍👌👏 I simply love the Cushman scooters. Especially this one because it's exactly my age.
Best regards, luck and especially health to all of you.
Satisfying to see and hear it drive, love to see a little fun in the dirt too. I had a victory lap home in my truck like that in the early days of putting it together too. It’s a must, what can I say
Fram filter? Oh no! Slightly better than no filter at all, I guess.
The marker lights on top of the fenders are actually turn signals. Great job.
Only discovered you a couple days ago and your videos just today, but I'm already enjoying this!
Brings back memories of working on my first car. 1971 Newport Custom.
That was a good rebuild on the master. I don't ever remembers seeing one as good.
I know absolutely nothing about cars. No am I really a car guy. But I love your videos. They’re super interesting. Keep it up 👍
Leave the patina and just clearcoat it. It looks cool with the mountains and waves!
Very nice! Yes, should be a light bulb in the turn signal markers. I remember that when I would sit in the front seat in my father’s Newport when I was a kid. I picked up a 70 Charger outside of Killeen Texas when I was in the Army stationed at Fort Hood in1993.
Btw, I hope you you have your seats redone in the same exact way they were factory made. Very unique!!
She's beautiful! And you made the right wheel/tire choice.
Happy too see you save a old classic from the crusher. good job my friend. God Bless
Love that little bike. A Hardly Davison! 👍
Awesome bro she sounds good now you just need to put some duel exhaust pipes on her with some chrome exhaust tips and she will sound great and look great I love your car I’m glad your getting it back on the road again keep up the good work your car sounds awesome
Great job dude and dad. love those old cars...
My father had a 71 Newport, nice car it was
Those markers for the hood are the blinker indicator. Some of the older Chryslers didn’t even have blinker indicators on the dash. Just the ones on the hood.
Love the big ole Chryslers, I got a 67 Newport. Please if you are going on a big road trip put that brake adjuster cable and spring back in the front.
Had one.
1 owner imported into NZ from US Samoa.
60K miles.
Same color, but with much more paint.
383 2bbl.
Went like hell once it was moving...
Miss it.
Congratulations on the old Mopar. I’m a Mopar guy, but love your other car builds
That chrysler is a cool ride! I love those old land yachts
Feeding the algorithm, Go my man! Old gold.
Good of you to show how to do everything needed to get an old Mopar back on the road.
Wheels look amazing. Love the red; sure does add the pop.
Thanks man !
PLEASE...in the future especially these old cars and the unknown. Block the rear wheels anytime you put a jack under it. Love your videos.
Your dad has the voice of a country singer!
A few have commented that 😂
Thank you I love these barn find videos the 69 and 1974 Chrysler Newport 300 New Yorkers and Newport Customs they just too big for me I love the outer design of the sheet metal but I don't like the interior's I love the Engines & Transmissions of course I'm more to the 65 to 68 slab-sided but I had a 65 Chrysler 300 4 door hardtop which I had to clean a whole bunch of cigarette butts out from the former owner one of my co-workers at the book factory in Berkeley the University of California printing services in about 10 years ago I bought a 68 Chrysler New Yorker four-door hardtop and there were a ton of sunflower seeds everywhere in the car
good job, wonderful. All old cars deserve to be saved. My best cars were a dodge monaco 1967 et an eldorado 1979. the cars of these decades, 50, 60, 70' are the america that i love. long life to it.
To fight rust efficently, you can put grease everywhere : between carpet and metal, inside : doors, trunk door, rear wings; behind repaired areas and bumpers... when you cannot reach the hidden parts with paintbrush you can pour oil with an extender - to be repeated every year for oil, for grease every five years. Rust nearly always comes from inside and welding.
In france i was about to buy the same car but it burned 2h00 before i bought because surely the battery was left connected. it was a big drama for me.
congratulations from france.
Thank you for watching from France !
Patina`ed red, white and blue (kinda) body with new tires looks great.
Being from northern indiana, it is amazing to me to see how much damage the sun does to the interior and contents of a vehicle over time.😮 But no rust, Probably a fair trade
I really enjoyed the red-painted wheel rims; that touch gives it a real vintage vibe. I like plain, ol’ black walls, myself. However, your car can wear any kind of tire it wants to, lol. It looks good dressed any way you like it. I’d wanna drive it and take all that bowling stuff to the local lanes and use it, too. I hope the owner enjoyed his time with the car.
Those tires and wheels look rad! Lovin the hub cap and white letters👍🇺🇸😁
Nice Car,Good Job,Have A Safe Road Trip!
When you set the brake line and tight, hit the bango bolt with a hammer and then tighten again. Also you can heat the old washer till cherry red and reuse them like they were new!
Love the Cusman Scooter , if it were mine i would put a Koler twin cylinder motor motor so it looks like a miniature Indian Chief !!!
My dad Bought a 70 Newport for me when i was 23. Of course, I wanted a charger. But that Newport was faithful always started (except for the sticking choke). Mine was a 2 barrel 383 and it was 290 HP (not 315) with 405 lbs feet of torque.
I thinking how my dad probably stamped the hood or quarter panels on that very car. He worked at the Chrysler Sterling Stamping plant from the week it opened until the ‘80s. Cool that it was able to run again.
We had the exact same car in the early 1970's when I was in grade school. It was dark green.
I am new to your channel = I just absolutely love the content and I already can tell you and you dad are such super great people AT HEART ❤️ 💜
That bowling ball thing is such cool history
Had 62 ford van I had to grease the bearings in.Glad to know some onebelse knows the grease buy hand. I used to grease on my oil.filter gasket to.
28:15- why didn't you grease fill the cap?
our neighbor had a 69 New Yorker...and just try gettin that Mopar started in the winter at 10 degrees.....wore out battery first!!!
Yes, letters out, nice looking 👌 👍
Great video! Awesome ride, can’t wait for the road trip video. Wish I could wrench with my dad one more time
The new fuel pump and rad look very shiny and new..
I'm currently building a 77 Lincoln Mark V. Engine just got completed at the machine shop. Gonna push 700hp
A slide hammer bead breaker tool works great for the stubborn tires
Those rear marker lights are an awesome find👍
Please put an oil breather cap on that rocker cover.
Love the old Chrysler products, so reliable.
Nice old car. Thanks from. Sc
Thanks for watching!
Looking very cool mate , 👍🇭🇲. loving the way you are rebuilding and hunting problems down, to save that cool looking old beast ,
Thanks Andrew for watching
