The more you put your foot in the go pedal, the lower the needle will register. The tach appears to be a Sunpro mini and the vaccum guage is likely an add on. The shop I worked in in the early 80's had one and I don't recall that guage in the dash.@@Boga217
@@ABetterLifeInc Well they're perfectly accurate at measuring manifold vacuum, which is what they do. Engines have highest vacuum at idle, so clearly any RPM above idle will mean less mpg, but we can't really drive around at idle.
Love your content! You and your dad should wear respirators when cleaning out mice infested rigs. Breathing that stuff in is a recipe for a lung infection or worse. My family drove an extended cab version of this same truck round trip from the Dallas area to Oregon and back several times. The 400 gave up the ghost on us in Arizona, so we got towed to a junkyard where he proceeded to swap it out for a 440 out of an older Dodge truck. What a memory.
Why wouldn't you believe it? It's a Mopar. For TRUE miracle saves, check out Jennings Motorsports! He revives locked up flatheads that have been sitting for 60 years!
I love seeing the old cars being put back on the road we're they belong. Good job guys. It's lovely to see you're dad working alongside ot you to. I bet he's old school. Good luck with what ever you do next guys.
To answer your dads question about the Thermoquad, it was not originally designed for Mopar. The thermoquad was originally designed by Carter in '66 or '67 to be a direct replacement for the Rochester Quadrajet equiped on GM engines. It solved the problems of full throttle starvation and vapor lock on the Quadrajet due to the location and size of its fuel bowl. That was also the idea of the center being plastic so it would disperse the heat. They are great carburetors, but you absolutely can not let them sit or they get brittle.
Buick, Pontiac and Cadillac cars especially and of course your BBC vehicles were having running out of fuel at full throttle and the aforementioned Buick, Pontiac and Cadillac and the Oldsmobile motors are a wide setup with plenty of steel and iron mass and would constantly just boil fuel... and whether people believe it or not the Rochester quadrajet carburetor is also a Carter designed carburetor
You guys rocked it with that recovery. I recommend hammerite that floor after metal repair to seal it. I did that to my ‘79 k5 blazer and it worked like a charm, even sealed up the pin holes. Dries like a hard thick plastic coating.
An hour and half spent with Rick and Travis is always fun to watch. 15:40 - that is not a factory gauge. You can see the DIY hole saw marks. 35:56 - Rick, “Yea, she’s thirsty.” Love it. Man from my own heart. Hey Rick, that’s good running carburetor. Lol
Travis, after you showed that nasty belly pan and water in the oil pan, I thought for sure that engine was toast. Boy, was I wrong! Worked on a lot of big block 400 Chrysler from 79-89, they were a low compression emissions engine but always ran great, even in the Lean Burn Models. Very reliable, Our Dodge wrecker D400, I think, had a 440 and that was a great runner. That truck is sweet!
Really enjoyed this video. I couldn't help thinking with a decent camper interior, both fuel tanks up & running, u could put a tow hitch on it & use it 2 go get projects with! Might save u on hotel costs. I think it's time u did another fly & drive, I love watching u do those! Keep up the fantastic work, much love from Scotland!!
I really enjoy your videos- especially seeing you and your dad working together. Cherish that. My dad and I used to work together on our cars and he has dementia now. Im so glad we had that time and the conversations that went with it
Great Video Travis!, You don't want to drive it without the TV hooked up, It will smoke the Trans!, Also that won't affect 3rd gear, Without it hooked up it will be in 3rd in just a few feet! Lol, Also wandering what ever happened to the 1969 Chrysler?, Thats how I found your Channel!
Thanks Travis for the heads up on the jump start box. I have been in the market for one for a number of years. I saw what you did with the batteries and then having no battery. I just hope it stands the test of time. The price was definitely right. Got it for $75 off the Amazon and The Amazon is claiming it will be here as soon as tomorrow. Thanks again Travis for the heads up on this!
That man sold this thinking it was a basketball case. I may have thought that as well. Travis you and your dad make a great team. You guys are Mopar ready. Think after a little clean up. Got another good flip. Thank you for sharing. And have a great Thanksgiving! 💯👍👊
really fun to watch.I think I like the fact that you are more of the home diy kind of guy getting stuff done with what you have rather than having a loaded garage with every tool under the sun. It's very down to earth.I so wish I could get vehicles like this but being in Maine, everything is a god damn rust bucket after 10 years. That fly and drive is in my future for sure.I will have about 20 grand to spend and I am headed south or west to stay for a week and find a car with NO rust. What a dream!..its crazy because the prices are the same for cars with rust in maine or rust free down south..
Nice , I work on old cars and many a time I had to put the old parts back on , I'm sure there is good replacement parts out there but nothing beats the old stuff
Right on I’m glad these cars are going to good homes! Sad to see the Impala go of course but you can’t keep them all. Not without greater sacrifices anyways. I think it is so cool that the truck is going from subscriber to subscriber. Got a groovy thing goin here. The dodge is great, for how nasty the engine was it sure runs great, especially with that REALLY nice carb your dad so generously gave up & sold to you (lol)
Gosh you are killing me with these finds. I'm a Mopar guy and these things are Astonishing. My jaw is dropped with absolute suprise. What a peice of Art work. I don't care if it runs its that good. You just DO NOT FIND Them here. I've only seen them in Literature or online. Hopefully we see more and more Mopar trucks. No matter the year. Love em all. Cheers from Rusty Belt, Toledo Ohio😅
I legit just seen your segment where you said, us Midwestern people are trippin about having no rust. I commented the above before watching this part. 😂😂😂 fkn Rock salt is for the birds. We need a class action lawsuit, sue the state and local governments for all the rust damage 😂
Cars and trucks aren't cheap, we get ours dissolved away in the name of safety. Better yet why not place Endorsements on drivers licenses and keep people who don't know how to drive in snow off the roads. 😂 easy for me to say. My Dodge Ram is a plow truck, I do snow removal in the winter. 😂
I daily a 94 f150 4x4 RCSB 5.0 5 speed with 120k and its still in really good condition and theres a little rust around the fenders but if I lived in the rust belt this truck would've been gone like 20 years ago. I'm glad I live in the desert of utah the 2nd dryest state in the country.
@@mromatic17true. My 4x4 360 wasn't a plow rig originally until I got it and even before that it was suffering rust damage from Michigan's lovely salty thru ways and thoroughfares. But I have it nearly rebuilt all the way back to the quad doors and that's just the body. there is something cool about you two..for me, it is my missing my father..and the projects we did together..so folks..never take a day or your loved ones for granted..time is precious..
you're totally right about the China parts. i put brand new Moog ball joints on my truck and all 4 were bad right out of the box. they were worse than the 20yr old original ball joints! ruined my tires while i was trying to figure out what the hell the issue was since the whole front end of the truck was rebuilt. last thing you want to believe is that your new parts are junk
The mileage gauge looks aftermarket. It doesn't have the little recess like the others, and appears to have a silicone bead around the bezel. But even then, an amazingly complete and solid truck. Very nice
You don’t need paper gaskets when doing Mopar RB engines that have 4bbl intake manifolds. The valley pan IS the intake gasket and just needs copper shellac on each side.
37:15 If its a 440 RB (Raised Block), there will be a machined pad on the front drivers side of the block, above the water pump housing. If its a 400 (low deck), the pad will be on the passenger side, under the distributor.
I had a 1977 Dodge Adventurer Crew cab back in the day.( I wish I still had it.) It came with the 400 in it. I was told the 400 only I'm in the adventure series, and emergency vehicles. I.e. Ambulance, fire rescue etc.
After sitting so long, the oil pump probably lost its prime. An old trick is to pack the oil pump with VASELINE, and that will prime it again. It'll dissolve in the hot oil. EDIT: Literally 23 seconds later in the video, you said that! 😂 Good on ya!
I was wondering on the effects of the pickup sitting that long with water on it. That screen might have gotten junked up. Back blowing it through the screen merely pushed the crap off the screen, possibly only tempoarily. I, myself, would pull the pan and double check.....
Such a nice old truck. My dad retired from Chrysler and I remember him buying a new 1976 Plymouth trailduster. Boy what I would give to have that truck now. The removable hardtop leaked like a sieve right from the factory.
Dude I love this old truck. It’s straight as an arrow and it’s my year too. Dad had a 76 power wagon the same color when I was a kid. That thing was a horse.
Nice find for sure. I love these old Dodges. I have a '76 Power Wagon with a 440. Need to wear a mask when doing the inside. Hantavirus is bad news. Stay safe. Just subscribed to your channel. Happy Thanksgiving.
Ok cant hold back anymore. 1 that is a split bench seat, not buckets. 2. that tach is 100% aftermarket. 3. Im 99% sure that efficiency gauge is also aftermarket. 4. That thermoquad is not made of bakelite. Bakelite has not been used since the end of WWII. The thermoquad is made of a phenolic plastic. 5. Chrysler introduced electronic ignition in 1973, chevy did the same 2 years later.
Honestly, I have limited time and so many You Tube channels I can regularly watch but the canopy shell actually caught my attention. That's the 2nd one of that make of canopy I've ever seen in my nearly 52 years. Way back in 1980, when we lived in the Tacoma, WA area, dad bought a used 1977 Ford F250 with a canopy just like that. The color matched the truck, which was red and white. If it isn't exact, it's awful close. I haven't seen it since about 1986 when dad sold the truck but I remember you could unlatch some pins and raise that whole back end up. It was very versatile. You could even remove the hinge pins, take off the entire back wall and have the back end open. Dad built a wood frame and nailed plywood to it and laid a huge piece of foam rubber wrapped in a blanket on top then set it between the bed rails up front inside so you could have kind of a bed. We took a few camping trips with that. We used to lay across it and ride in the back when that was still legal in all states. The front window was a slider along with the cab window in the truck so you could communicate with the driver while riding in back. That was the neatest thing. Had the paneling inside like yours. Great to see such a familiar sight that I haven't seen in nearly 40 years!
Looks like you need to go to Arizona to get a decent Dodge truck! You and your Dad did a solid job getting this old girl going again... I'm looking forward to future videos on the Camper Special. The paint restoration should make a good episode! Thanks for posting, Travis!
This one certainly made you two earn that 1st start. Sound logic and great attitude in plowing forward. Looking forward to the next video on this truck with potential. Sorry to see the Impala go, as I was hoping you'd bring the paint in line with the El Camino and watch you and your Dad attend car shows with them, as a pair. That said, any subscriber considering purchasing a vehicle from you can be assured of a square deal. Especially with the benefit that they can watch the diagnostics and work performed. Thanks for another great video and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Travis, get a roll of 3/8" clear tubing from a hardware store. Drill a hole in an old Brake Fluid Bottle. Attach the tubing to the bottle & the bleeder. Youi'll be able to one man bleed brakes if the tubing is long enough to hold the bottle higher than the bleeder. Gravity will push the air out due to atmosphereic pressure. Takes time, but does work! And zero mess.
Man, I was shocked when I saw the lifter valley exposed due to Rat pee!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. You and your Dad did a great job bringing her back to life! Awesome you found a buyer for the Dodge Camper/Adventurer so quickly. Fantastic display of troubleshooting skills and process's. Now you can find and buy a 1961 bubble top Impala!! with the 348 V8 and 4 speed!!! woooooo hoooooo! Happy Thanksgiving!!
Nice find!! I'll bet it will buff out and look awesome once it's detailed. The 6x9's in the doors still good? That ELO Eldorado album is one of my favorites.
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. 3 am ET I feel your pain working outdoors ! This truck looks better than some of the others you guys have work on ! The smell must be bad , in the service we would wash disinfected the cab . Am with you guys never seen that , with intake ! ??? Nice job guys . It’s Alive - It’s Alive ! 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Today's New master cylinders are crap. I actually got used ones several times when I replaced mine on my 72 Chevy Cheyenne. I started opening up the boxes and checking them because they often resell the returns or used ones in the box.
All BB Mopars have a sheetmetal valley pan under the intake manifold. Edelbrock makes a big deal out of their Air Gap manifolds. Every Mopar BB has a factory air gap.
You have a very nice dad I wish I could have to work on cars & trucks with my dad and you are right I hate overseas crap parts! Have a great thanks giving !
Do yourself favor, get a clear piece of hose about foot or longer and a water bottle with a hole in the cap to bleed the breaks. That way you are not making a mess. Nice score on the dodge truck
This video shows the reality of cheap aftermarket parts. I had the exact same scenario with a master cylinder. Had to rebuild the new aftermarket one, pitifully
I had a couple bad experiences with them to. Friend of mine runs a Parts plus commercial store I only use him it's close to my house I can take anything back and I get tech prices
That’s one really nice D200 Camper Special. Glad you were able to bring it back to life. Those rodents sure can be troublesome. But that frame and body on the truck are super nice for a 70s Dodge.
An American father and son, working on an American V8 pick up truck How much more American can you be .... Also Travis, your Dad is awesome, a total star ✨
I like what you have going here. I'm a "Original" Gas Monkey Garage, 20k sub at the time with Vice Grip Garage, Andrew Camatara, KKNH and now your channel. Good one This truck is pretty much unfettered with just over 100k miles with how it sounds. Looking forward to seeing the other fixes you talked about so an early Thks for taking us along. Tom
That button you said was for the horn, I would check it out again when you get the truck running. I have same set up in my 1970 Chrysler put there by the previous owner. When pushed, fuel is injected into the carburetor. By the way, my engine is a 440 four barrel with a Holley carb. Really enjoy your channel, discovered it about two months ago.
You don't hook up your kick down or as you call it the TV cable even though it's a linkage you will burn that transmission up and what you thought was second was actually 3rd gear without the kickdown on TV 1:21:38 cable you'll be in third gear in about 200 feet
Thank you guys for watching and happy thanksgiving to you all.

Happy thanksgiving thanks for following along
Your Dad is great. Reminds me of working with my sons on their cars. Except I don’t know half of what he knows.
Wonderful to see/hear a father and son working together on something they love doing.😃😎😎😎😎😎
Wow that’s a cool story thank you for sharing that
Looks like you need to go to Arizona to get a decent Dodge truck!
A good man’s word is worth more than a contract and a gang of lawyers. Happy thanksgiving
What a nice guy that got in touch with you and sold it to you
Nice find!! I'll bet it will buff out and look awesome once it's detailed. The 6x9's in the doors still good? That ELO Eldorado album is one of my favorites.
Glad to see you’re rebuilding brakes etcetera instead of just throwing new stuff on it.
Thank you Travis for this restore you and dad so busy you even had time to place the camera under the truck,Well I appreciate that.
Mr. B. Here ! 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Thanks for always commenting ! Yeah always gotta get in some kind of shade.
Use a brass drift to hammer on those rockers next time, helps not nick or gash the rocker/shaft
Actually good idea
Beautiful truck just like my old 1991 dodge, great team work, father and son, I’m jealous…. Great job
She lives!!! Awesome video to share and spending time with your dad. I laughed when he said I wish I would of known that carb worked that good 🤣
Let's go! Getting in this comment section nice and early. You're the man Travis. Learning a lot from your channel.
Thank you
I've never seen a windage tray rot out like that before! Wild!
Simple straight forward bring em back to life videos. My favorite ones..
This video shows the reality of cheap aftermarket parts. I had the exact same scenario with a master cylinder. Had to rebuild the new aftermarket one, pitifully
It’s a disgrace
Good old rock auto parts. I'm done using them after buying multiple parts and everyone has been scrap
I had a couple bad experiences with them to. Friend of mine runs a Parts plus commercial store I only use him it's close to my house I can take anything back and I get tech prices
You guys are going to have that thing purring like a kitten I love watching you and your dad work you guys are awesome together
That’s one really nice D200 Camper Special. Glad you were able to bring it back to life. Those rodents sure can be troublesome. But that frame and body on the truck are super nice for a 70s Dodge.
An American father and son, working on an American V8 pick up truck
How much more American can you be ....
Also Travis, your Dad is awesome, a total star ✨
Yeah he’s the man
Great video. I really enjoy the father son revival duo. The shot of him sitting on the cement block in the cab made me laugh!
Get in contact immediately
Nice rig , great work keeping these vintage rides alive !!
5:37 I thought 🤔 my Area 51 at work was cramped around my Auto 34, but this is a new best for getting it done in minimal space.😊
Good show guys! Well done again.
The slow blinking light on the jumper should be morse code for SOS for future reference. Thanks for the vid Travis..
i dont know if dad told you but that carb made that truck travis!
It did for sure
Awesome truck ! What a Score ! So super straight and solid. What a needle in a haystack. 👍
Great stuff, as usual! Love seeing the interaction between you and your dad. Thank you for sharing.
You're going to have to call it Rainbringer. Nice video, and I can't believe how little rust you guys get there.
I just hauled my dads 74 d100 318 came 3 on the tree now its 4 spd was parked in 91 and left for dead but in great shape it will live again
Reusing the wheel seal? You’re a brave man
It's phenolic plastic. Bake-lite went out in the 1950"s.
I like what you have going here. I'm a "Original" Gas Monkey Garage, 20k sub at the time with Vice Grip Garage, Andrew Camatara, KKNH and now your channel. Good one
This truck is pretty much unfettered with just over 100k miles with how it sounds. Looking forward to seeing the other fixes you talked about so an early Thks for taking us along. Tom
Thanks for the support Tom
That button you said was for the horn, I would check it out again when you get the truck running. I have same set up in my 1970 Chrysler put there by the previous owner. When pushed, fuel is injected into the carburetor. By the way, my engine is a 440 four barrel with a Holley carb. Really enjoy your channel, discovered it about two months ago.
Thanks for sharing glad you enjoy
I really like this truck. I would spend a lot of time on it. Get the ac working and make the interior nice. The truck is worth it.
Hey it runs, drives and isn't falling apart, you're way ahead with this one
Dad and son ❤ Great video thanks for your time good job 👍 peace ☮️
You don't hook up your kick down or as you call it the TV cable even though it's a linkage you will burn that transmission up and what you thought was second was actually 3rd gear without the kickdown on TV 1:21:38 cable you'll be in third gear in about 200 feet
Yep, Lots of folks don't know that about Torqflights, Not like Ford or Chevy where it's just for kickdown, Well Ford's AOD used TV cable/linkage also
Damn that luck, Travis, Dad.....hope it it can be run again!
I’m pretty impressed you got dad to help with the cleaning haha
That's crazy for the date, I used to live in Mesa, Az. Never was that hot in the Winter ❄️
Thank you for sharing how much you spent on it
