Nice setup. Thanks for showing how it comes together. Maybe you can share a shot comparison with a low buck gopro/suction mount. I think it would be helpful for your demographic since most are probably at point b and may not yet see how much difference point A can be. It may not stack up against the GoHarder's low to mid 5 digit stack of gear but is pretty good with some elbow grease.
I actually really wanted to do that and a few other static shots without the gimbal, but my girlfriend was working late on the shoot day and it was hard just to get her to drive around for the shots that we did do. It’s hard to find help on these vids sometimes, and I really wanted to have an upload ready for the end of this week. I might revisit it in the future though, since I’m gearing up to do some car review type stuff soon. I’ve had really good results with action cams and the Insta 360 cam in past vids. They’ve definitely come a long way since my first GoPro hero2.
@@RobRabonPhotog Aye, most people don't realize how much work goes into producing a rolling shot. When the opportunity's right maybe it happens. Keep it up.
I use the G51 with the RS and DJI's Expansion Base Kit. Great combo. Likely adding a vibration isolator though. Have to test my in-body stabilization first.
Thanks for making this. I'm the guy who hangs out the window or from the side of the sliding doors on the wife's car!! Will be looking into this. Any further update or usage?
Thanks for watching! I haven’t had a chance to do any other rollers with it yet because of bad weather and then a few drift events. I’m hoping to do some work with it on my friends 64 continental soon, once our schedules align.
Thanks for sharing. I'm starting as amateur video maker for motorsports and I was looking for a setup that could match with the DJI RS3. Looks perfect and cheap compare to Tilta Hydra mount.
Nice vid, I just watched your 360 One X for car guys vid, too. How do you think the cam tree setup compares to the fat gecko? Would your thoughts change if you were using a gopro one the one x instead of a bigger mirror less? 👍🏻
Thanks! The camtree is definitely more stable and feels safer than the fat gecko, but the setup takes longer and it’s more to carry. The one x selfie stick seems pretty durable but it was a little scary having it hanging off the car with just the fat gecko supporting it, because the selfie stick gives it a lot of leverage. I’m thinking about using the camtree and the clamp to hold the Insta 360 selfie stick next time for added support on the faster cars. It would still show up in video but I think it would be safer and more stable than just using the fat gecko.
@@RobRabonPhotog right on, thanks for the info! I’m considering picking up a 3 or 4” carbon fiber tube and outfitting it with male/female 1/4” threads to do a chase cam setup on my drift car. Was thinking of using the gecko but otherwise a 360 cam would be primarily for in-car action in my case.
@@RobRabonPhotog Ah dang, I don't have that and I have a Nikon D3500, I think it's too heavy for the DJI ronin. I was tempted to buy the Weebil S and doing similar like you did for the Volvo. BTW what is supporting your hooks from inside the 240?? 🤔
I have the G-51 but it feels a bit outdated. Too many pieces etc. I also don’t like the weight of the base mount. Do you think the Gecko triple mount can hold the rs2?
There is a lot of pieces but it’s goes together pretty easy, which I like. Some of the DIY rigs can get crazy with assembly. The gecko is pretty strong but I don’t think I’d trust it to mount a gimbal. I’ve used it to hood GoPros and my Insta 360 outside of the car and it was pretty stable, but I don’t think I’ve ever even put a full frame body on it, except while inside of the car.
You might need to order a spigot stud with a 3/8” female thread. I thought that they came with the clamp but it might’ve been something that I had laying around. Sorry about that. You can find them on Amazon for a couple bucks in various sizes.
Sure! No prob. B&H has a few different models but this one seems nice for the price. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1305583-REG/impact_srp_101p_round_short_adapter_with.html
Seriously it sticks to the surface so well in your case... ? Got mine G51 because it has a looot good opinions but it hardly sticks to the glass on my car... and yep the car is clean and the surface way more plain than on your cars and it drops after 30 seconds by itself! I will not risk hanging my camera on a car with this equipment...
Wonder how well this would work with an isolation shock absorber
5:42 "I dont really have anything to film right now" *reveals whole ass R32* look. if the guy with the R32 says this set up works. IT WORKS!
For cheap shooting, use a trunk bike carrier.

I bought the same thing to use on my R32 skyline as well

Can you drive at highway speeds with this on the back of the vehicle? Like 50-60mph?
Great video. What camera settings and lenses do you use for on car video, say following another car on a winding road. I have s Sony A7 iii
Rob, has the G-51 held up after a few months? I've got a LUMIX G85 that is dying to be used for something like this.
Could you do a simpler roof mount for the gimbal with some ratchet straps?
Thank you 🙏🏼
Hello, how did you connect live view without Wi-Fi? I have RS3 and Raveneye, but, if I turn off Wi-Fi the Raveneye get disconnected from my phone :(
did you try it on the dashboard
with tthat lens and camera combo id expect a much higher quality shot.
Great info
What background music did you use? 😅
Pretty cool man.
Thanks! I’m hoping this set up come in handy on more projects soon.
Really enjoyed the video. Greetings from z nation Germany
Thanks!! Glad you like!
Greeting from the United States.
And most of the music that I use in my videos, is from Epidemic Sound.
Awesome video…
Thanks!!! Much appreciated!
Excellent video! I would be scared to death to have my camera hanging off the back of a vehicle.
It is a little scary. I’ve never been so paranoid about getting rear-ended.
rad vid. how is it holding up after more uses?
Thanks! It held up nicely the few times I used it. Honestly haven’t used it in a few months though, because of it being cold and wet out.
how to remove that jitter ? shake?
Would it be possible to have the gimbal track the car instead of manually controlling it with the touch screen?
Yes. Most of the rolling shots towards the end are taken using the RavenEye auto tracking that comes with the gimbal.
@@RobRabonPhotog Good to know, really a game changer for a one man army.
Love this video thank you 🙏🏽💪🏽
Thanks for watching!
Did you feel you really needed the Gecko mount back up?
I feel like it made it a bit more rigid, and gives it a little more safety, but probably not needed in most cases.
@@RobRabonPhotog - also, I have to ask... what do you think of the ZhiYun equivalent of the DJI RS-2 ??

That would be pretty rad!!
Would this work only with the DJI ronin?
I think so. Especially if you do maybe a double clamp style, to kinda act like it’s 2 hands holding it.

Gotcha. The weebil seems really decent from what I’ve seen.
And the Volvo has some seat belt supports that I’ve used for attaching hooks a few times.
