So I met Pauly Shore when I was 6 years old at the San Diego Zoo (now 25), and ran up and got a picture with him and I remember telling him Bio-Dome was my favorite movie of his. He looked at my parents then back at me and said, “Wow they let you watch that? You have some terrible parents.” Best day at the zoo ever.
What Pauly is explaining at 2:15 is hard to describe, but I know exactly how he feels. It isn't that you can't do the same things you did when you were younger, it's just that you don't get the same satisfaction out of doing them. And the things you currently enjoy in your life don't quite give you the same level of enjoyment as those other things did when you were younger. You aren't wishing to do those things, you're wishing you still enjoyed doing those things. It's like, I wish I could go outside and play make-believe for 3 hours like I did when I was 8 years old, and have an absolute blast. There's nothing stopping me from doing that, but I just can't possibly enjoy it the same way as I did when I was a kid; it would just be boring as an adult.
That's kind of how I feel about watching Pauly Shore movies. I can certainly still watch them but I can't possibly enjoy them now the same way as I did when I was ten.
German Ed. Leal Nino yeah he should have been the first Lindsey Lohan but you never hear about him getting into any trouble.. I think he should be very proud.
Pauly Shore misses being young because of his experience. He was larger than life for a short period of time. That’s a crazy thing to achieve and then have taken away so quickly.
yep. i can't blame him for missing it dearly. but is it better to have that and lose it or to never have experienced it at all? the pain from losing it is there but so is the joy. if you never had it then all you have is "pain" from not having it but that pain is no way worse than having the good life then losing it so i think its best to never have the good life lmao. i grew up in the 90s i miss it terribly and i feel like most times i might have been better off not living through it but after seeing how gen Z is, im glad i lived through the 90s. it hurts its gone but it felt so good to experience it. its a catch 22 man. the good with the bad.
I know what Pauly is saying...... the 80's/90's were awesome. I was in my mid teens to mid 20's during this time and I miss it a lot. Less stress, less responsibility, more friends. Was a great time!
Most people love their mid-teens to mid-twenties regardless of the decade, especially when looking back at it. People in their teens and twenties today will look back in 30 years and talk about how great it was. It’s just part of life.
@@Reginald_Harrison Wrong. Things have changed like never before. The most recent generations are so messed up and miserable it's unreal. People in the future will be trying to recover from the horrific things done to them at "gender clinics". The 80s/90s were good for any age, these times now are awful for all ages, but especially youth.
@@pwilliam255 huh? Who do you think you're fooling? I have screenshots of people saying they knew multiple "gay" and "trans" kids...in FIRST grade. Local hospital says kids can be "trans" at THREE years old. There's now child drag shows all across the nation. Thousands & thousands of kids irreversibly damaged. You belong in prison and we're coming for all of you.
Dude has a huge ego, it's actually kind of embarrassing. "Look at me, i used to be on billboards..." - "I used to be big...." - "I was the 1st big person on MTV..." He sounds like he just lives in the past. Pauly and Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite would get along great!
I am going to be 40 in a few months and this makes me feel grateful I haven’t made it yet. I feel I am finally on that trajectory and it’s something that’s going to sustain me. I am grateful for the hard times I’ve been through in my life because I am now turning the corner, slowly, but I can feel it.
At 40 now I'm feeling the exact same way, barely turning things around, almost ready to buy a house....however at our age statistically if your still single it's almost an impossibility to start a healthy relationship and start a family which does get me down a bit.
I can definitely sympathize with him about missing the early 90s and being younger. It was a fun time back then. A great time to be a kid. Today we live in a world of madness.
I agree. And anything crazy going on back then wasn't noticed as much due to our age and also less media . But no doubt the world was significantly different in so many areas.
@@LordofYumYum there was definitely problems in the world back then. But nothing compared to this insanity that we live in today. There was still a sense of community in the 90s. But today everyone just hates each other. It’s a complete mess no matter what side you are on.
So sad and weird. We all miss our 20s. There's nothing you can do about that. Wishing you could go back is pointless. The best thing you can do is whatever it takes to not look back 20 years from now and keep saying I wish.
He wouldn’t admit this, but he’s not successful anymore because he looks like shit. Nobody is going to give this dude a lead role in a movie. He should have worked out and used facial moisturizer ffs.
I feel the same way i miss the late 90s early Y2K like crazy, its depressing when your loved ones start to die, family pets start to die, celebrities you love die, or get older. I came from a large family that came from a larger family, and now its like my elders have all died off, sick, too caught up in bills, ITS OVER WITH. i choked up in tears at my grandmas house this past year cause not only is she and grandpa here but like no one showed up. There literally would be 30 people with guests visiting all throughout the day back in the 90s early & mid 2000s. My favorite aunt who did everything with me died of cancer, cousin died of covid. Man i can go on. I can watch old WWF SMACKDOWN or cartoonetwork/nick shows super easy thanks to current technology. I can play games or rewatch certain movies at anytime. The problem is it will never recapture the old atmosphere that was the late 90s/early 2000s. that feeling of cant waiting to see your friends in school or go hang out with them after school or during the weekend is forever gone. Whenever i see something exciting theres no large gathering or social spaces where your around people who dam near knew you since pre school. I miss hating to go to high school, but loving the activities, field trips, dates etc etc.
You can tell he's had a hard time ego wise with the decline, but you can also tell he has chosen the path of inner honesty which is hard to accomplish. Major props to him!
I WAS SO BIG but... - "that movie didn't do as good as the other films..." - "Disney didn't sign me to do more movies..." - "Jury Duty didn't do so good" - "I didn't listen to my agents" - "I got a sitcom on FOX... and that didn't go..." Well, I ain't no Sherlock Holmes, but I can find the common denominator here...
As goofy as I thought Pauly was at the time, I have to give him props for his blunt honesty and for being true to his feelings. I too miss my youth and the visceral sense of excitement I used to feel at every new opportunity. You just can't re-capture that when you get older. You develop feelings of nostalgia for times gone by, and over the long-term, if you don't have any prospects in the pipeline to help you re-focus, you can easily get depressed and lose your motivation, and then it's all downhill from there. Life in general isn't as exciting and joyful as it used to be. I think that's where Pauly's mindset is now. If he had one good acting opportunity come his way to put him back on the map, he probably wouldn't feel so down in the dumps and miss his glory days so much.
I know, I had a lot of fun in my 20’s, I wish I had appreciated that more than I did, you can have new experiences but you can never get that moment back❤️
Yeah, it happens to a lot of people when they get older. Especially if, as you said, they had experienced some level of success at a relatively younger age (like in their 20s), then for whatever reason that success passed them by. Sometimes it's their own fault but sometimes it's just times will change and things that were funny or popular 10 years ago just aren't considered cool anymore.
🤯 that’s exactly how I feel as someone in their 40s who had a GREAT 20s for the same reasons. Being young and dumb is underrated. The whole world is open to possibilities and as you get older and experience more the possibilities and wonders get smaller.
Didnt think he was funny then dont now. Just a washed up performer sad that nobody loves his douchebag comedy anymore. Be happy you had anything at all.
matt buresh great point...he had to change because with age no wants to see an old guy playing a stoner role. An old stoner on film is sad since it shows an adult who was not grown up.
He is basically telling you what and why most actors get the way they get when they get older in Hollywood. He is just not afraid to tell it and be honest about it.
They need to remember they still got a whole lot more than the average American did or ever will. Most people won't star in a film and are just fine with that.
It is good to see him remembering his early years in the entertainment business. He is a very likeable person. I can see why Joe had him come to his show. Hopefully Pauly's podcast does well. He has a natural talent for entertainment.
Yes. Pauly did everything all on his own. Never mind his Mother was Misty Shore, owner of the comedy store. I am sure she had NO influence on his career though. Zero nepotism.
Hell yea! It ain't over til it's over, I didn't hear no bell, we will not go gently into that good night. My dad had me in his 50s and didn't slow down til his mid to late 70s and lived to be 90.
I’m impressed he shared his true feelings. He’d probably write a good autobiography. So many people are afraid to show any vulnerability, especially entertainers.
I'll talk here why the industry not push his career...the people who now are big like Eddie Murphy started in much lower gas back then. He was big...ok? Biiiiigggg. If you saw the mtv billboard that he showed...the slogan said: The future of America...totally Pauly. His main type was a cool inteligent high guy. I think was genius...good vibes that was a picture of that time. Of course that was important make a good narrative with moral and plot twist in his movies but I think someone very very important don't wanted. 'D,3ep stat3 send hi' . Is important that every one in Hollywood in a specific moment of the career put part of its money in their own work. With responsibility of course.
he literally never said that. he compared himself to adam sandler. sandler doesn't have oscars and nobody is using billy madison to audition for broadway, but sandler stars in movies. I get what he is saying, it's like a football player who can't get signed to a team, maybe just get on the practice squad. he would rather be a starter on a trash team than be standing on the sidelines of a good one.
@@adamvincent746 ...adam sandler is a guy who had a few good years in the 90s. but unlike pauly he had a crew that worked like entourage so after the mainstream moved on from him he started doing indie movies and producing his own movies for himself and his friends to star in. pauly relied on the studio to keep his career going and fell off when the industry changed.
DeadBunny69 I was like 13 and in in the army now was pretty ducking funny. I watched it like 5 times. That humor worked back then. Now vulgar shit is frowned upon. You can still do it. But keep the budget small. Like workaholics. Pauly shud try that. Those kids are very similar to him but too much pauly is no good. Need to balance it out.
You can hear the ego when he talks. I don't see him taking part in an ensemble. Or 2nd billing. Even though he's washed up and he does not have the talent to transition.
Y'all are trash people... This guy was dope he essentially is the first person they exploited for money and ever since Hollywood rides one person until they die
I would never and have never wanted fame Fact is he is washed up As the vast 99.9% of celebrities end up being Only a few like Lon Chaney, James Dean, John Wayne and Sir Christopher Lee are truly remembered as historically significant But he achieved more than 99.9% of wannabe actors achieve He's far from a loser but his attitude makes him come across as one
I grew up in watching Pauly as a 90's kid, I was a big fan. His movies hit at the right age for my generation at around 14 though 16-ish. So I gotta support my man. I was always bummed that he didn't do other staring roles later in life, but at the same time, he seems to be doing well without those kinds of roles. I and many others will forever be thankful to Pauly for paving the way for so many comedians and actors after him. That's a huge honor to have.
He put his vulnerabilities on display and that is rare in any atmosphere especially one that's viewed by millions. His sincerity is refreshing and I do feel for the guy.
Paulie came into my restaurant a handful of times and he’s so fucking genuine. This guy is definitely humble and in no way does he act celebratory. I’d rather serve this dude than Beyoncé or jay z or any other A-lister anyday.
This is the living example of a man who can't generate happiness from within. When they say that fame and money can't make you happy, this is the attitude they're referring to.
@@davidpearson6346 The thing is he's still hanging out in the scene and doing just fine. He still knows everyone and his mom's reputation keeps him well. He definitely needs to look at that deeper.
He keeps saying "I love acting" but then he says he was on set with Adam Sandler but he wasnt the star. It sounds like he doesnt love acting he just wants to be a "star"
Exactly if u love acting be happy u got a part in a dumb adam sandler film god he sounded like such a big baby " but I was the one starring in films" so he doesnt love acting he loves being the main star who's ass gets kissed what an ego. Shit.
Not only did Pauly start a lot of the comedy we enjoy now BUT HIS MOM actually owned/managed the comedy store and Pauly grew up with ppl like Richard Pryor and other legends... It mustve been crazy, he talked about being a kid and walking into his downstairs where his mom hosted these huge parties with so many key comedians... theres a doc from back in the day where he explained it as his mom was on her death bed, really made me look at him as more than a goofy guy and gave huge insight to a lost time in LA comedy scene... Joe knows wsup, he was there for it all.
@@PMurray2694 I don't know. Success has a ton of fathers and failure is a bastard. It's easy to look outside yourself to blame stuff going wrong. Looking inside yourself is really hard. Pauly: I was the first and biggest MTV star Joe: Yeah, you and Leary. Leary got big off MTV back then. Pauly: Leary was big, but I was starring in more movies. I starred in a lot of movies. Joe: yeah...
I miss the 80s and 90s too, but during those times I took them for granted, and one day I'll look at my life now with nostalgia. Just do one great thing that matters before you die and appreciate the current moments.
People need to understand Pauly Shore was HUGE in the nineties. He was everywhere at that point. What he said here isn't an exaggeration. I don't necessarily believe he sounding arrogant it's just the reality of getting older has an effect on everyone. There are days when I find myself thinking: "Man, I miss having no responsibilities where I could eat cereal, watch cartoons, and not have bills." In defense he admitted that his act became stale and no one cared about him anymore.
That maybe so. But there were a lot of us, me included, that felt he was being shoved down our throat. And I was in his demographic. I thought he was funny for a bit. But it was like a fad that hangs around for way too long. It became tedious to watch him. So I look back on those days like I was being conned. Some corporation deciding what was funny rather than the audience. My point being, he shouldn’t have been that big, and certainly not for that long.
@@LastSunrise1981 Not in this clip. Not to split hairs but he states that the ‘weasel thing was cool for awhile and after awhile it’s not’. Meaning that’s why he fell from popularity. It doesn’t at all infer that he overstayed his welcome. My point was that by the time Pauley was finally ousted everyone was burnt out on him well before that point. At no point does he infer or imply he hung around too long. According to Pauley, he was around exactly as long as he should’ve been. Whatever, it’s Pauley Shore. But there is a real vein of arrogance here that is undeniable. He knocks Dennis Leary as not being as big as he was. Which isn’t true. Even if it were, it’s not a statement you make. Then goes on to pat himself on the back about being the first. Again, maybe that’s true but this self aggrandizement is unseemly and not much different than high school jocks talking about the glory days of high school and how great they were at the time. Obviously they weren’t that great if it doesn’t translate to anything else.
@@bry8636 I see what you're saying. Pauly Shore to a degree was the first as far as his influence was concerned. Of course he wasn't the first if you compare him to Pryor, Fox, Murphy, Hicks, Carlin, etc. However, during that period he paved the way for the likes of Sandler, Leary, and other dressed down realistic comedians of that period to become popular. Saying the Weasel gimmick became stale is exactly what overstaying your welcome is. At some point the people love you and think your cool, more they see you they become annoyed, bored, and don't care to have that person around anymore. Once again Shore was huge in the nineties. He's not making anything up in regards to his success. I can remember living in California during his prime and hearing lots of kids use the weasel fingers and sounds, constantly saying "buddy" the way Shore did, watching his films, etc. However, I do understand where you're coming from with your views though.
amen. I was famous for 3 years, traveled the world, got fucked by Hollywood producers, backers, etc b/c I refused to get on my knees and kept my head high = one way ticket back home.
NOt really. There are plenty of one note wonders that manage to be in films for YEARS. No. In Hollywood, there is no greater sin than making a bad film. As long as you are making good movies, you can be a one note wonder forever. But you make 2 consecutive bad films or films that don't perform well and you are done. Very few celebrities can bounce back from two consecutive bad films ESPECIALLY if they are the lead.
Really nothing went wrong he was a fad entertainer his time came and went and he really made the most of...my young uncritical eye liked all of his movies
Memories good or bad are the saddest things on life. I often feel sadness when I think of other good things in did in the past. I’m no way famous as Pauly, but as having great times with friends in the past puts a tear in my eye. Almost like you want to relive that part of life over again.
Pauly Shore reminds of those kids that are popular in high school but don't make much of themselves afterwards. They were loved by everyone for things that are completely fleeting and now they're just working some measly job and no one really notices them. Plus, they see people that used to envy them having true success and have to suffer regret for not making better choices. Yes Pauly, the party always ends. But, I do think people still like him if he can just embrace who he was and accept where he is rather than focusing on what he feels has been lost. People would go crazy for the nostalgia, but he needs to be comfortable and stop looking down on himself.
cryogeneric its tough bro. Like its worse, because u know how good it can be and just want to go back and live there forever or do it different so it doesnt end.
I feel for the guy, I always wished he made a comeback or at least was happy with teaching and helping young comedians find there place in Hollywood, he could do so much good he doesn't realise that, he literally grew up in Hollywood, he knows it better than anyone
Ya but those those ppl who have “achieved real success” are often shallow superficial jerks who define success by money or a fake sense of superiority. Doesn’t mean they are happy..
I can honestly say that back then I never heard anyone say “ I can’t wait for the next Pauly Shore movie “. He played that douchy character on stage and did the same thing in the movies. What did he think? He was doing amazing work. He says he likes to act but he can’t act. Not to bash but he should be happy that a lot of stoners found him funny for as long as they did. You can tell he just misses the feeling of being important and relevant.
@Giada_De_Low_Rent_Tits I've seen some footage of Paulie early stand-up act - h e used that same San Fernando Valley 'Weasel' character. I didn't find it that funny, mainly because I didn't live in L.A. and hadn't encountered those types of people yet. I don't think Paulie was a gifted comic - he really benefited A LOT from having his Mom own The Comedy Store.
@Giada_De_Low_Rent_Tits From what I've seen - his stand-up wasn't that great. He was born into a lucky situation - parents owning one of LA.'s top comedy clubs.
well he definitely got a leg up because of his mother. No internet and only TV so actually going to see shows was a big deal. Comedy Store was a big deal to see up and coming comedians, basically manufacturing comedians. If you worked there and did good you had a decent shot to make it big. Who owned the comedy store? You guessed it, Pauline Shores mother.
Nothing wrong with being proud of and reflecting back on accomplishments and events that made you happy ,Pauly shore is awesome and I’d love to see him in another movie.
I don't think that's why he's sad. He's sad because his body is getting older, maybe more aches and pains. And more so, sad that he can't entertain like he use to because jobs are passing him up. Listen to the part when he talks about being on set again. It felt good, but not great like when he was the star making people laugh. "Tears of a clown when there's no one around." He misses that.
@@silvercloud1641 Exactly. I'm in my mid 30s and just starting to notice light aging and it changes the way people treat me (i.e. not getting flirted with as often). I think what Pauly is feeling is being an average Joe with a decent life. By itself it's cool and he still has it better than LOTS of people who struggle in poverty or living from paycheck to paycheck in shitty jobs etc...but it probably just feels lackluster to him COMPARED to 1993 when he was a sex symbol on top of the world.
@@larryo6874you have a roof over your head, stuff to eat, internet access, a phone, etc. Shit, you’re just as lucky and fortunate as Pauly Shore to the kids in the world much poorer than you. You should be happy as shit as is. You got lucky in life.

I totally understand what he means. When I think back on my high school days, I often feel sad. So many things have changed and so many friends are gone. Those times are over and it will never be the same again.
I never really found Steve Martin that funny in movies after he did Father of the Bride, except for Bowfinger, which is one of the best comedies of the 90s, imo. It was mostly family comedies that were all a bit bleh. Shit-hot banjo player, though.
@@brianm2881 Agreed, but he was good in It's Complicated (mostly a comedy for old people, but he was the funniest part of it), and even by the mid-90s, he had been at it for over twenty years. Pauly Shore was popular for like four years. He just kept doing the same thing, and it got tried really quick.
I can’t stand Steve Martin but he was excellent in Novacaine and the dentist in Little Shop of Horrors. He can be a good actor and I agree he left those “wild and crazy guys” stuff behind. Pauly milked the weazle shit way too long. He tried to keep that stoner role going when he it was long dead. He’s funny enough to move on to other shit but never did I time. Happens a lot in comedy.
To be 100% honest, the reason he wasn't cast in more stuff, was because he was always playing the same character, ive never seen a movie of his where hes talking in his normal voice. Take a look at jonah hill. He took a giant pay cut to be in certain movies so he could rebrand himself as not just the funny fat guy from superbad. He took a hit in terms of his earnings, to show directors, and other actors, and the world, that he was more then just a funny fat guy. And it paid off for him. Daniel radcliff is not just harry potter, the kid from home alone (cant be bothered to type his name out) is not just the kid from home alone, they all have more to offer, but sometimes you get so known for being a certain character, that the fans always see daniel radcliff as harry potter. Its a hard thing to break away from, but necessary to further your career. You just have to strategically change the minds of people. Will ferrel is a perfect example. Hes widely known from his role in anchorman, and thats a pretty iconic role. But when you see him in a new movie, no one tries to hold him to that anchorman character, because hes been in so many other films. You just have to outgrow any one role.
Will Ferrell was a bad example because I think snl comes to mind alot faster than any of his movies even though anchorman and step Brothers are such favorites.
@@ramp622 Right. Pauly brings up Adam Sandler, but even Sandler had to rebrand himself, I think the movie was Punch Drunk Love. It seemed like a weird move for him at the time but it was a critical success and gave his career some added weight at the time. Pauly was only ever Pauly. And eventually he just seemed kinda dumb.
I was never a fan of Pauly but I can relate to what he said. I'm in my mid 40s and life will never be the same compared to when I was a youngster. The 80s and 90s were the great golden eras of everything! from movies, sports, bands, music, walking down sunset strip in Hollywood, getting stoned with friends hooking up with girls I feel the sadness as well. These eras are gone but not forgotten.
No no and no man, sorry. Sports maybe, music was OK (compared to the 80s yes cos the 80s were the worst decade since 1940) but still tied to the 00s if we place the likes of Muse,Queens of the Stone Age, Interpol, Arcade Fire, Mars Volta as bands from the 2000s... but movies?! are you serious?! They were absolutely horrendeous! When is this 90s idealisation gonna stop? I get it, it was a decade with a lot of hope at the beginning cos of the Berlin wall falling and the likes of Pinochet ending their dictatorships etc but never forget it was the time of Vengaboys and Ace of Base topping the charts and Batman and Robin, The Mask and Wayne's World. Also, it was a time of pure rampant capitalism with never ending economic bubbles that ended up exploding 10 years later so it was essentially all a mirage. And that's without mentioning the pain in the ass that was to be carrying 1000 tapes around or oversized CD players that'd you'd try to fit in that poor small pocket, the over sexualisation of even comedies ( hello Tales from the Crypt) and last but not least the stupid trend of showing up at fancy parties with a shirt with the neck of Tony Manero, opened on top of a baggy suit. To finish, every time we dare to criticise Ed Sheeran, remember he's only the product of the likes of Duncan Sheik.
@@jacquesmesrine8031 movies from the '80s were horrendous? What planet you live on? I don't think a movie from the last 20 years comes to anything close to the apex or nadir of the '80s.
Just saw him Sunday at Wiseguys in SLC. He is such a sweetheart, gave me a hug and did autographs and pictures. He seems a little sad. He had a crazy childhood. He didn't grow up learning things like the rest of us. He doesn't deserve the hate he gets. He just cares about fun and comedy and wants to make people happy and make people laugh. But people are harsh on him and I think it wounds him a lot.
I think he has undiagnosed major depression. It's a mental disorder that lies to you, tells you you're not good enough ect, and makes you sad for literally no reason. When itn reality, he has a lot to be happy and content with.
@I A.R.E. You can't know about integrity, that's the things you say and do behind closed doors and when no one's watching... However, I do agree that he is harshly judged and unrightfully criticized. He was a big part of my childhood, so I appreciate his craft. ✌️
@Brian, you can totally observe integrity, it’s what you do when you “think” no one is watching, keyword think. That doesn’t mean someone doesn’t see you, just because you didn’t see them. Cameras hidden at work or on the street catch peoples integrity all the time, soo yea
That's what's wrong with this world,we attack people when they're down so that we don't feel so bad about things that are not going so well in our own lives, leave this man alone, he's opening up to everyone, which is part of a healing process, he's trying to put a rough time behind him.
No, I loved in the Army Now! I went to basic training in Ft. Sill Oklahoma(where basic training was filmed) , and kept Pauly Shore in my head to keep my spirits up.
I can understand missing the things that brought you joy when you were younger. He was young, had money, girls, movie roles, etc. Of course that was a wonderful time in his life. Now that I'm 50, I get that. The thing is, nothing lasts forever. His act was funny at first, but it got old. At some point watching a man in his 30's or 40's act like a stoner kid just stops being funny. As we get older, we find new things that bring us joy. For me it's spending time with my nieces and nephews. I'd rather do that than just about anything. I hope Pauly finds his "thing".
@stryfetc1 Yes, you're correct. Betty White did work up into her 90's. The reason she had such longevity is because she was not a one trick pony. She played all sorts of different characters throughout her long career. Pauly played the same dumb stoner kid in all his movies. He got stale. Like I said in my original post, watching a man in his 30's and 40's act like a stoned teenaged boy stops being funny after a while. Betty White continually reinvented herself. Her characters had warm, kind personalities that appealed to people of all generations. Though I have nothing against him, Pauly never changed (even on his RUclips channel, he's still "the Weasel". I look back at his body of work with a nostalgic smile, but I have no interest in seeing it now.
@@anthonyblubaugh5275 I watched plenty of Cheech and Chong back in the day, and they were hilarious. Eventually, like Pauly Shore, they got stale. The movies weren't as funny (although the movies had different titles, they were all essentially the same movie), and I and many others lost interest. Cheech was smart and reinvented himself. He became a well respected actor, and now is known for far more than just his work with Chong. Tommy Chong by and large hasn't changed much, and as such, he's kind of faded in comparison to Cheech. Yes, they've done some "nostalgia" tours in recent years, and that's great for a night out, but there's a reason there hasn't been a new "Cheech and Chong" movie for several decades. People just don't want to see it anymore.
It’s true though, and he doesn’t have a career now, the least you can do is give him his due, which is that he was the first, and the biggest, at the time. Then he took it too far and burned out.
he lives in the past. he seems extremely depressed. in the beginning he couldn't even give that guy Dennis Leary credit. had to one up him. that's a clear sign of insecurities.
Dennis has a big career, nationwide commercials and high rated tv shows and specials still. Dennis is made of stronger stuff. Pauley had life TOO easy, his mom owned a huge comedy club where he started out. lived as rich kid super spoiled, etc..... needs to appreciate what he had and still has. his still a name and actually has some talent. just needs a career overhaul and possibly look to a TV show, OR invest and create new business or a radio podcast ....ugh GET a LIFE dude.
*We Love you, Pauly!! I STILL watch your movies. You rock!!* 🤘 *As for Pauly still talking about his career days, that was his life. Everyone needs to chill on making fun of him. You will do the EXACT same year when yesteryear was your glory days.*
No idea who Pauly Shore is but tbh I think the main reason why he lost out on acting roles is that (judging by the images I've found) when he was younger he looked kinda cute/boyish (nohomo). But his look really didn't age well. Now he just looks like Elmer Fudd.
@@julies1ify It's probably harder for him considering that he was a big star for a while. That's a rush that 99% of us will never know, and losing that has to be so much harder than the average person leaving their youth.
@@NyQuilDonut , I get it, but weve all dealt with some circumstance in our life & had to leave it behind. Just have to keep moving forward, hes like this in most interviews I see
@@julies1ify I'm not a fan of his, but he didn't sound bitter to me at all. If anything, he sounded very self aware and understood the results of his life were largely based on decisions he made. Not necessarily bad decisions, but decisions that got him where he is.
I can’t decide if this is depressing reminiscing about glory days, or if he’s just being honest and straightforward. It doesn’t quite come off as bragging.
I empathise with Pauly here... I get a bit sad and emotional when I think back to the times in my 20's. Things just were fucking awesome back then. I am 3 years older than Pauly. I remember when he was a thing back then. If I could jump in a time machine, I'd love to re-live those years. If I had a teleporter, would love to go and have a drink with Pauly, and Joe to talk about those times. Amazing. I still think that time of the late 70's - mid late 80's is the best time of my life.
Same here except I was a bit younger than you. I think growing up in the 80’s and 90’s was a great life experience that younger generations will never get to experience.
People like that always miss it, they never think they are the problem. I mean sure, I laughed my ass off watching his movies in the 90's but ffs he never acted in shit, he just played himself over and over again. At least his biggest fan will always love him.
As an actor, this is true tbh.... you have to keep reminding yourself it isn’t about you. It’s just a career/another form of work- it’s fun though but you have to keep evolving. Take out your ego. Take your time.
Pauly Shore was a stoner high school character. It was funny for a while, then it got old. He needs to decide how he wants to evolve. Nothing lasts forever. He should be proud what he accomplished.
He tried to evolve, but he's a one schtick pony like Peewee Herman, Weird Al .. sure they have careers... but who wants to watch the same old tired tripe...
@@TroyC68 Well said!! He tried to evolve into an older stoner but that’s just kinda sad & pathetic. Most of us outgrow our childhood antics and not too many people can have a real career if they don’t grow up & learn new things. What got you here won’t get you there, as a wise person once said. Those of us that grew up with Pauly Shore, Pee Wee Herman and Andy Dick don’t really hold those memories as the heartfelt ones. Especially Pee Wee... heard any good jokes lately?? Haha ha ha ha ha ha (laughing like Per Wee). 🤣
That's kinda what I'm going through, I'm a guy that just turned 31, and now just realized that I'm not getting any younger, and I'm the one to blame cuz I didn't go out there and live life. I had let my best years of my life go pass by in being a hermit in my room playing video games, and watching porn. And now that I'm 31 the regret is now affecting where I should have gotten out, and ventured. If I could only turn back the clock, and go back when I was in my early 20s.
@@robertdelgadocapetillo8684 - If you're not married with children, you still got a solid decade of being able to catch up on that stuff. I'm 34 myself, from like 16-28 were fucking great. I was playing football, meeting girls, hanging with my friends, playing tons of great video games myself and with friends often (didn't really watch any porn though). Now im married with a career, kids, and life is certainly great. But those days of very little responsibility, playing video games whenever i wanted to, climbing in the backseat of a car with whatever girlfriend i had at the time, randomly meeting a couple friends late at night to go catch a late movie. They were great times, but gotta move forward. For you, if you're paying your own bills at least, my advice is to get yourself in good shape, lift weights. Get yourself out there, meet some good women. Reconnect with old friends who might be in the same boat, or make new ones. You can still spend the next 5 to 10 years of your life catching up on wasted time. Just make sure you got a good career at the least if you haven't already. Edit: Oh, and kick the porn habit if you haven't already. That shit is a trap for your brain by tricking it into a never ending cycle of complacency.
Hanging out with Pauly Shore would be a massively annoying bummer. He's the kind of guy that when you see his number on your caller ID you just freeze so you don't accidently bump your phone and answer it.

Some of us out here still loving the weasel❤ growing up in the 90's on the west coast, Pauly Shore was massive. Biodome is still one of my very favorite movies of all time. I've always thought it was strange that his career wasn't as illustrious as it should have been.
So I met Pauly Shore when I was 6 years old at the San Diego Zoo (now 25), and ran up and got a picture with him and I remember telling him Bio-Dome was my favorite movie of his. He looked at my parents then back at me and said, “Wow they let you watch that? You have some terrible parents.”
Best day at the zoo ever.

I’ve never seen that movie but lord knows how he must feel about social media and the internet
Exactly
Totally agree with that
Super insightful

Facts
That maybe so.
But there were a lot of us, me included, that felt he was being shoved down our throat.
And I was in his demographic.
I thought he was funny for a bit.
But it was like a fad that hangs around for way too long.
It became tedious to watch him.
So I look back on those days like I was being conned. Some corporation deciding what was funny rather than the audience.
My point being, he shouldn’t have been that big, and certainly not for that long.
@@bry8636 Which is exactly what he said in the interview. He admitted as such that he was a fad that overstayed his welcome.
@@LastSunrise1981
Not in this clip.

I wonder if the comedians only tolerated him because he was Mitzi Shore's son?
@Giada_De_Low_Rent_Tits It's sad - on top of that, the guy was never a talented comedian.
well he definitely got a leg up because of his mother. No internet and only TV so actually going to see shows was a big deal. Comedy Store was a big deal to see up and coming comedians, basically manufacturing comedians. If you worked there and did good you had a decent shot to make it big. Who owned the comedy store?

Stoners and druggies are never successful. Those are exceptionally bad behaviors to do on a physical (look at the guy) and spiritual level.
The irony of your name... your comment and your stupidity lmao you're like one of his characters in real life
@@TroyC68 i mean weird al still sells out tours
I had a rough day at the jobsite today, and now I feel totally fantastic after listening to Paulie!
Pauly seems like he's trapped inside his own head in the past. This is so so sad.
That's exactly what I was thinking
Ya like 98% of all people
Exactly you stole my words. He was on top now lost gone. He missed the buss to reality. Its sad he had his glory days now depressed time cacthed him
That's kinda what I'm going through, I'm a guy that just turned 31, and now just realized that I'm not getting any younger, and I'm the one to blame cuz I didn't go out there and live life.
Pauly Shore once scored 6 touchdowns in one game in high school.
Now sells women shoes full time
Lol!
DONT COMPAIR HIM TO THE LEGEND
Its Always Sunny In Portland Oregon nope same. The legend Al Bundy
Who is Ted Bundy? He’s not no legend
it was 4 touchdowns in a single game but aight
Moral of the story
Don’t peak too early.
I’m 50 and I’m nowhere near peaking
Mission accomplished!
I still love Pauly, he is my favorite comedian from the 90s and I still watch his movies pretty religiously
He had his fifteen minutes or more. He was somewhat entertaining. He just got older and times changed. Happens to us all. That's life.
Hanging out with Pauly Shore would be a massively annoying bummer. He's the kind of guy that when you see his number on your caller ID you just freeze so you don't accidently bump your phone and answer it.
Lol nice
@Endless Nameless that's a very dick thing to say. The dude trusts you like fam and you turn around and say some cold shit like that. No offense but you don't deserve someone like him anyway. That's fucked up dude.
@Endless Nameless you're probably Alot older than me cause in 2001 when you had a band, I was about 2 years old and I'm turning 22 now. I'm also in a band and we're having the time of our lives but we'd never be a dick to each other like you are with who's supposed to be your fam. That's really fucked up
@Prince Vegeta’s Burner Account FACTS 💯 brother!! If I were the poor guy that this dude is shit talking, and read what he had written and hid from me all of this time, I'd be fuckin devastated and betrayed and that's the cold sad world we live in. Where you can't even trust to be who you are comfortably around a person you look at as a brother/family. Respect to you as well bro 👊🏼👑
@RusSac Barber straight up brother 👊🏼💯
: I was turning 30...I was going from being a boy, to a man. I couldn't handle that". Right there, was the center of his problem.
Am not famous but I felt like Pauly when I turned 30 too so I don’t know and I just turned 50 and wow depression in a huge way I don’t know how to turn it around life’s tuff but pauly rules me and pauly gotta snap outta of it out the big boy pants on 👍👍👍
@@ticketman299 I'm 30 and I know what you mean. It was just weird mostly. The number just sounds off. But fuck it. Here I am. My best friend killed himself at 30 so I try to be positive and ignore the number. Just live life, stay healthy, and always be evolving. I'm better now than I ever was and I get better every year. That's the only attitude worth a damn.

Some of us out here still loving the weasel❤ growing up in the 90's on the west coast, Pauly Shore was massive. Biodome is still one of my very favorite movies of all time. I've always thought it was strange that his career wasn't as illustrious as it should have been.
