My grandmother was a Richard Simmons fan and had all the tapes. After she passed in 2004 I emailed Richard Simmons to tell him how big of a fan my grandmother was and to thank him for what he did. He emailed me back within 24 hours with the most heartfelt response. He is a good human being. Hope this will be made into a legit movie.
@YouMakeSTAYStay143 No matter whether or not he wanted to be who he was the point she was. An because of who he was his beautiful soul saved ppl. Not the weight thing But the Love of self thing.... Richard Simmons will always be my favorite person I never met but wished I had..
@@splashhash12 I can believe RS doesn’t want this or anything like this. That’s because great humble people see it as grotesque. However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t honor him anyway for all the good he has done. He might be embarrassed and not want the recognition if he was asked. That doesn’t mean it isn’t the right thing to do while he is still with us.
I understand Richard wants a private life now. He’s entitled to that. But I hope this short brings an even wider audience to Richard. A tribute to a life time of helping people in need. More people should show him appreciation for all he’s done. He truly inspired millions.
he truly saved about a billion people's lives, and showed them how to want to know a different life and a life worth loving and keeping! I have jeans I write affirmations on the inside of so when I pee I have Mr Simmons words of encouragement to help me want to squeeze those gems back on and keep going!
They put this out I believe to show Richard how people would love it because they had already started production in good taste when Richard publicly said that he didn't want the movie
I have my own story of Richard. My mom and I went on a cruise to lose with him. He was wonderful. He even took my mom aside and they talked for the longest time. He treated her like they were the only ones on the ship. She shared that my dad was quadriplegic. He took her and I to his cabin that night and called my dad at home to let him know that he was taking care of his wife and daughter and not to worry. He called me on stage to exercise with him the next day. We had such a blast. We will always cherish those memories and I hope he is happy. He is very missed because the world really needs him at this time. Love you Richard!!
I spent a day as Richard's "handler" when he appeared at a Walmart sales conference. Several women buttonholed him while we were making the rounds, and he stopped for every one of them, attentively listening to their stories and giving them encouragement. I looked in his eyes. He's the real deal.
I've been going through a rough time and, after watching this, I sent Mr. Simmons an email just asking for some words of encouragement. I didn't expect a response and it was more of just getting some feelings off my chest as I'm pretty much alone in this world. Within an hour he sent me a heartfelt response and really made the difference I needed right now. I agree, he's the real deal.
I worked at KTLA studios, during a time when Richard Simmons was there working. We became temporary friends, just by seeing each other around the lot, morning and night, while he worked there. I was a lowly lot-labor worker at the time and this is exactly how Richard was to me as well. He always said "HI JEROME", sometimes from 50 yards or more away. He always gave compliments, was full of energy and was never, ever negative. Truly a very good person.
Pauly Shore is clearly coming at this from a place of love and utmost respect. I hope Richard Simmons knows exactly how much he is beloved by us all. Bravo
@@BRANDON-FJBI sort of respect him for that, but the question is "is he really that talented?". I sort of put him in the bucket of Tom Green and Corey Feldman, one note celebrities who haven't really evolved their craft.
100% Simmonds saw this and just welled up. He knows the legacy he will leave is bigger than any one DVD or book. It's cultural. ANYONE is worth being included. EVERYONE deserves to love themselves.
To be able to display a vulnerability along with also seeing potential strength waiting to come out was powerful in this scene. Mr. Heiman nailed it. He is definitely someone i will root for!
I had the honor of meeting Richard Simmons, I think it was 2010 at his house I was a contractor cleaning his carpets, and I can honestly say he was the nicest human I have ever met in my life.
Im a 32 year old 6'2" 244lb Army Combat Veteran, and i have a lot of respect for anyone who can turn back, reach down into the pit they just crawled out of and pull someone else up. I salute you, Richard Simmons.
Amen. Daughter of Vietnam Combat vet here! Thank you for your service Sir. My Dad raised me to believe in the old saying “The only time you should look down on someone is when you’re reaching down to help them up.” God Bless you. 😊
My opinion of Richard Simmons forever changed the day I saw him on Whos line is it anyway. He literally broke 5 professional comedians, an entire studio, and left like nothing happened. A super underrated comedian and entertainer. Hope he's doing well.
I just watched that yesterday (it's here on RUclips) and I was literally laughing out loud on the train.😅 Richard is the best and was so funny and good natured about the whole thing.
Just have to own it and he did. He made the fun and mocking part of his persona and he taught many people to do that today and more people are themselves because of it.
Even when we were kids in the late 80’s and early 90’s, we thought he was pretty fun. I don’t think he was “mocked” in a cruel way, I think he was just a fun silly figure.
He sucks as Richard. Pauly is always Pauly acting. He cannot that's why there are no roles for him. Stoner laugh. Boy he sure is a fatter Richard too even with his stomach wrapped for the role
I'm a disabled Iraq veteran pushing 40. Allowing ourselves kindness that was never afforded to us is the most genuine act of selfless service... I've got your 6 my Brother. If you ever decide to visit death valley... I'm here for and with you.
he was never worried about it or any other movie made about him. He just doesnt care. thats what he said. He said he just focuses on living a quiet peaceful life with what he has left and does not spend any of his energy paying attention to what is happening in hollywood.
He’s quoted as saying, “When the king gets depressed, he doesn't call for his wife or the cook. He turns to the little man with the pointed hat and says to the court jester "make me laugh". And I am that court jester”.
Sounds like Richard isn’t happy with the movie, wasn’t in contact with the people who made this and is doing his best to live a quiet life. I think I’ll respect his wishes and avoid this. He was the punchline of so many jokes for so long and I think it finally caught up with him.
I chuckled as soon as he pranced onstage but the fact that Pauly Shore just moved me to a full emotional level of yearning in this short performance is just fucking incredible. In just 9 minutes, the Dood blurs the line between comical and kindhearted. THIS MOVIE NEEDS TO BE MADE.
Ironic because that's how Richard made me feel as a kid. I laughed at how animated and funny he would be, but his energy and obvious love for people had me watching him as a kid who didn't even need to exercise. They have my money for any full film already lol.
I had the pleasure of attending classes at Slimmons, Richard's studio, thirty years ago. I was 480 pounds back then...I'm half that now. This short does the man's kindness justice.
Good for you!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your personal account if working out with him. I always wondered how fun it would have been to be able to have done that!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I worked out with Richard at Slimmons for 4 years.. He is a gift. Tremendous service consciousness, hilarious, authentic and kind. Those work outs were so fun and challenging. I loved the long line to get in on Saturdays filled with his regulars, West Hollywood boys, The LA Roller Derby Girls and more. I remember he used to send his playlist out a few days before.. and I loved when he challenged us to come in costume for certain holidays. I still have my birthday mardi gras beads with a tiny Richard which he gave me in front of the class :)
Huh…Pauly Shore really nailed manifesting Richard Simmons the *proper way.* 100% wholesome human-kindness. It’s apparent this is going for something feature-length. Ship it.
A Richard Simmons biopic can’t be filmed without Pauly playing Richard. The passion for this role and the love and respect he has for Richard are clearly visible. ❤
No respect for Richard at all because there was respect for Richard then this movie biopic wouldn't be happening because Richard put out a statement demanding this biopic of him not happen and how he did not give his permission to do this!
We don't give Richard Simmons NEARLY enough credit OR recognition for being just an incredible force of Good in this world. This definitely quelled any concerns I had about Pauly representing him. I hope Richard gives it a chance, because this was heartfelt and wonderful. And I gather Richard doesn't want the attention, he deserves space and peace for all he's given the rest of us, but maybe we could all use a little bit of this just to remind us of the things we still need to hear.
We dont give Pauly the credit he deserves either. This is about them both in so many ways.It was beautiful.Great work Pauly ,,,and great message Richard.
That was unexpected! This is the most intelligent, mature thing I've ever seen Pauly do, and he killed it! He seemed to channel Richard's essence, in showing how, despite the extravagant presentations, Richard truly cared about connecting with people. This could do a lot of good for a lot of people if it were to become a full-length feature, so I hope that Richard watches it and approves.
It is with a heavy heart to hear the passing of Richard Simmons, a beloved fitness icon and television personality. His passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Richard Simmons will always be remembered for his infectious energy, unwavering enthusiasm, and tireless dedication to promoting fitness and self-love.
I don't think he meant to say that they were making fun of him. All he basically said was that it was "unofficial," since they didn't involve him, and to not believe it all as fact. @@jmack3411
The only making fun here is of his wholesome flamboyance. But its not embarrassing or cringy, it's genuine human niceness. It makes you laugh and cry. It's beautiful.
I can help but feel there is some irony and almost a big of a dig at richard in that line considering he told them he enjoys and worked hard for his privacy and to get out of the spotlight as part of his reasoning for not wanting a film/project about him being done before they made this.
@@charpool169 maybe Richard wanted his privacy because he felt people made fun of him too much. And after much time, people wanted Richard to know that they DID appreciate him. If this movie doesn't get that message across to Richard, I prey that something will.
@@caseystrange @caseystrange regardless of his reason for wanting it, the main thing is that it is his wishes to not be brought back into the spotlight and they were told that before making and releasing this and pauly said as much on his insta beforehand.
There HAVE TO BE so many lost moments just like this. We need more people to step forward and tell their stories so Richard can see his legacy before it's too late.
I have watched this twice in the last two days and cried happy tears both times. The filmmakers are on to something. Richard, please consider endorsing this. I think there’s a lot of people who need it and you.
@@She22222he’s not dead. Sadly, however, he allegedly hasn’t been seen in public since 2014. People have speculated that there’s something going on with his health, but nobody really knows. He’s lived such a big part of his life on tv/on camera in front of the world. So maybe he just wants some privacy. I dont know for sure , lbut I hope he’s happy wherever he is. He’s always been such a beautiful human being who’s brought so much joy, love and encouragement to so many people. Silly and as over the top as it may have been at times, people still adored him and still do. So no. He’s definitely not dead.
I used to work out in person with Richard Simmons at his studio, called Slimmons Studio. It was some of the most fun times of my life! Richard would show up to exercise class in drag. Over the loud music he would yell out which moves we should do next, while he pulled off his fake fingernails and flung them at us, or pulled off his wig and threw it across the room. HILARIOUS!!! I even have a picture of him sitting on my Harley Davidson in DRAG! And I’ll never forget the time when I brought my friends to his birthday party workout, where we all dressed up in costumes as cute animals. Or the time when he made my friend take off his shirt during class, so he could do push-ups over the top of him. I mean, we were literally cracking up! So much joy and fun! !!! I’ll never forget the first time I ever met Richard. He literally pinched my cheek and said, “You’re so cute, you’re so cute!” And I’ll never forget the time in class when I was having an anxiety attack because I was short of breath due to my asthma, and he literally took me outside and walked with me down the block, and said that when he has panic attacks he goes outside and listens to the birds. I miss the hell out of that guy. I’d give anything to see him again and give him another hug. I’m so grateful for the time I spent with him.
Thank you so much for sharing that! He was a HUGE star when I was growing up in the 1980s, and his Sweatin' To The Oldies was at first seen as kind of silly... 'til it became a best-selling sensation people loved. He was definitely in a class all his own.
Back in the day, I was a brat who thought Richard Simmons was a fruitcake, but I did recognize the good he was doing. Now I can fully appreciate how brave he was to be his true self, how selfless he was in helping others and that he was just an all around good person and pure soul. We need more fruitcakes like Richard in this world to remind us that life is short and we need to be our best selves, kind to each other and that laughter is better than crying. Richard, if you are reading this, you made the world a better place and I pray that you know just how special, loved and missed you are. You are beautiful. ❤
There's something genuinely beautiful about seeing a person for how they are and want to be. You can go your entire life and never meet someone like that.
Not gonna lie. I went into this fully expecting something like an SNL skit and left wanting a whole movie. That was way better than I expected. If there's any role Pauly Shore was born to play it's this one.
Yeah as Richard Simmons is not interested in the project it’s pretty much dead in the water. They could do something inspired but without his permission they cannot do a proper biopic.
I’ve been anxious to see Pauly’s portrayal. Yes, Richard was wary of it, Pauly spoke beautifully about his admiration of Richard and only wanted to pay him a proper tribute - holy $*#% he really did it! This was truly beautiful. As someone else mentioned here, I didn’t expect to get teary from a 10 minute short by Pauly Shore. I didn’t doubt he had it in him, but I still found it personally shocking as I don’t cry easily. Well done, to all involved!!! Hopefully we can see more soon. 💕
Richard cared for me more than any of my extended family, and I was a stranger. He had written letters to me after my brother died, and my father died in quick succession. I told him how life wasn't worth a new diet or health plan. I knew my mother was not going to make it long bc she lost my brother and my father. I couldn't see being on this planet once I'd lose her & I'd roll the dice on my health. He kindly and sweetly extended a lifeline, I am sure he saved me from a self-destruction that went beyond food. I understand why Richard retired to a quiet, peaceful life. He cared so much and knew he needed to care for himself even more as he retired. I hope what Pauly did puts a smile on his heart.
It made me cry. Richard - Please just let this happen - you are being honored not ridiculed in any way. You helped so many with your kindness and acceptance. We love you. Great job Pauly - Wheeeeesellllll
Why did people think they were going to mock Richard Simmons? He's a kind and empathetic person who did a lot to help people. Just because so much of the world is mean spirited, doesn't mean that we all are. I was really overweight in high school and felt invisible and like I wanted to disappear. I still struggle with that feeling. I'm so grateful for the Richard Simmons of the world.
With the right writing, pauly shore, and more moments like these at 7:00 this will be a monster hit at the theater. Many people will relate to this. I got goosebumps "Like yourself" and "I know what it feels like to want to disappear"
Nobody is going to pay money to see Pauly Shore play Richard Simmons. Especially after Simmons publicly disavowed the film. Fans of simmons are going to sit it out on his wishes and fans of Pauly Shore do not exist.
My best friend once caught me off guard in HS and said “Simmons does a lot of good for heavy people and I think that’s awesome he makes them feel much better about themselves”. I was like Dude? Wtf is this coming from? We were dumbass freshman. It took me a while to understand what he meant, and he’s been a surgeon for a couple decades now. Damn fine job to the Weasel, we are witnessing a renaissance of 90’s actors becoming true heavyweight talents after being written off.
Its true, food never says no. Richard is a National Treasure, I hope he knows that. No one is making fun of him, we all love him and just want him to be at peace, and be happy.
HOW COULD RICHARD NOT ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!!!??? I'm so moved I'm crying right now eating my lunch and watching this. THANK YOU FOR THIS. Richard should be more than pleased that his legacy is so sweetly carried in this short film. THANK YOU PAULY!
Probably because he's been made fun of since he was a kid. I always admired his ability to brush it off, it's a shame that over time it's seemingly taken it's toll. I think he just defaults to that automatically nowadays. He certainly deserved better from everyone. Guys helped more people then most of us put together and it's shitty that he's not celebrated for that. Says a lot about our culture, embarrassing really.
@@anneefreres3299 Likewise. FWIW, he's always seemed like a dude that is tough to keep down. Fingers crossed he has more good days then bad. All we can really hope for anyone I guess. Sometimes it doesn't matter if the world is behind you and everything is perfect, one shit roll of the dice and you get a mental health issue and it overrules literally everything else. I know that first hand....unfortunately life just ain't fuckin fair. Never was.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this. The way Paulie's been campaigning to portray RS it seemed he's come at this from a place of love and respect. This is exactly what I saw. Well done all around. Incredibly moving.
I didn't know what to expect either; due to it coming from Hollywood I wasn't expecting much (and kinda expected some cringe gay scene) -- but this was surprisingly good. Great job Paulie, great job!
Richard Simmons always seemed like a really genuine person, who found his calling helping regular folks to get healthier. There was no hidden agenda, no get rich scheme, or inflated ego behind what he was doing. He always wore his heart on his sleeve. When you make yourself vulnerable, and open to ridicule, you almost invite people to hurt you. Such a kind soul can only take that for so long. I can certainly understand why Richard would just want to be left alone. This film was emotionally moving. If a feature length movie were to be made in the same spirit as this short, I'd love to see it. It hopefully would lead to Richard Simmons finally being appreciated, and get his proper due.
You know he’s not dead, right? It’s sad people are talking about him, like yourself, in the past tense. He’s very much alive, and just wants to live his life in private. He was in the spotlight for years. He just wants peace.
@@Its_Just_JJ Perhaps I wasn't clear. I never implied Richard was dead. "would want to be left alone is" is an active statement. Whether he chooses to be out of the spotlight is his choice, and I honor that. He opted to put his career in the past tense. Again, his choice. All I want for him is to have that career appreciated for what he meant it to be. That might make his current peace more satisfying, without forcing him into the spotlight again.
We are so lucky to have people in this world that can connect and bring such joy. Both Richard Simmons and Pauly Shore are two such people. Thank you for this little short!
I laughed when I heard they might make Richard Simmons life into a movie with Pauly Shore, then I watched this. I have a newfound respect for what Richard Simmons was trying to do all these years. He wasn't peddling workout tapes, he was helping people learn to love themselves. I always loved his appearances on David Letterman and Howard Stern. One thing is for sure, I always had a smile on my face whenever he was involved in a skit. I would love to watch this as a feature film. Thank you for all you have done, Mr. Simmons. May God bless you. Also great job Pauly!
I know Richard wants to be "left alone", but I hope this movie brings him back into the spotlight long enough for him to see how much we all love him and have loved him this whole time! No matter what he thinks about how the public views him, the simple truth is society benefitted from seeing his authentic, selfless acts of kindness and he helped some of us see the light, where in our own lives, none existed. Richard, we love you and always will be rooting for you!!!!!Thank you for making this film!!
Richard Simmons says he does not want to be back in the spotlight. He is happy with his life and wants to be left alone. Simmons has denounced this movie and wants nothing to do with it.
"I know Richard wants to be 'left alone', *but* I don't care! My sense of entitlement to and commodification of a human being is more important! I call this love!"
You aren't "rooting for" Richard Simmons, you're wilfully ignoring his wishes to be left alone. By your own admission. And then you kept typing. Gross.
I read on TMZ, which lately has been pretty accurate, that during the Sundance Film Festival on Friday night, Pauly got onstage and told the crowd that Richard had texted him earlier in the day, wishing him "good luck" with the screening. It could either mean "good luck, eff you" or "good luck, I'm warming up to the idea." I hope the latter. Lol
Wow, I forgot how much power Richard Simmons had in the world saving people 1 person at a time. He made time for people, gave so much of himself. I hope he knows how much he is truly loved.
Very true Dr. Michaels, and I hope you realize you have a similar power. Your videos are some of the most relaxing/sleep-inducing content out there, and you’ve absolutely helped me through many sleepless nights :) It’s cool to see the content you enjoy in your free time too!
Apparently, despite Pauly's best efforts, Richard does not approve of his story being told. Hopefully he sees this and opens up to the idea, because this was done very well. I'm sure Pauly and the team will try their best to be authentic in telling more of his story regardless if he gives his blessing. But having him on board would surely add value in the end.
RIP Richard Simmons. You inspired so many others to realize just how important, cared for, and truly great they were. I personally saw how you inspired my own mother to get healthy and know she mattered. May your memory live on forever inspiring others. You will forever be loved.
It's so weird. I'm sitting at my desk, staring at my laptop, feeling sad about where I'm at in my life right now. I'm working hard in school, but I'm a little lonely and worried that my chosen career path might lead me down a dead end. I'm not physically, or mentally, at my best, and I can feel that every day when I get out of bed to get ready for class. So it's Saturday night, I'm alone in my room, and I go to RUclips to find a distraction - anything to make me forget how lost I feel right now. I open the site, and the first thing I see is this video in my recommendations. I see Pauly Shore as Richard Simmons and I go, "Well, shit. I gotta watch that." I click on it, expecting something over the top and hilarious, but instead what I get is a very well crafted, beautifully written short film that is reflecting my own feelings (and the future I'm afraid of) back at me. And the grand message of this short? That all we need to do is make the choice to love ourselves, and the rest will fall into place. This was a message I desperately needed to hear, and I didn't even know it. Thank you for making this. Your art just really helped someone in need, and that definitely feels like the intention behind its creation. I appreciate all of you - the cast and the crew. 🩷
When you feel lost, alone and on a dark path, you are not lost at all, it just feels that way. It’s just part of the path, the way, your journey, and it will not always be well lit. But keep walking. It’s ok to stop and look around at the darkness, the loneliness, but do not stagnate, keep walking. Look for the light, at times it may be so small, so minuscule, like a lone firefly (and what amazing little things they are, an insect that illuminates…miraculous in its own right) in the vast void of pitch black. Keep walking, look for the lights, no matter how small, insignificant or veiled they may be, because they are there, and may be hard to see at times. Keep walking, keep looking, because in time, your eyes will adjust from the darkness, you’ll find your way, standing in the light, and the darkness is just your shadow casting back from where you once stumbled. Keep walking. ❤
Hang in there! We all have moments like yours. Sometimes they can feel like they will never end. But it’s really important to remember that you are not alone, there’s always something good to come and to focus on. For me, my dog… funny shows, Kpop music… a good cup of coffee… and more. Hang in there and keep positive energy around you.
Jesus christ, Pauly Shore still blows me away. This guy still has so much to offer comedy and Cinema and I think this piece is art is going to blow people away.
You saying that; is like when one of those people who go on American Idol that cant sing, because family and friends who are tone deaf, TELL them they can sing good😂
I hope Pauly Shore loves himself for who he is, but he's spent an entire lifetime trying to fit into a profession he's just not cut out for. He's not underrated, he's over-cast, and that's because he's connected and gets opportunities based on the strength of his Mother's standing in the comedy world (RIP).
@@kovert6407 I’d say that some of that is true, but not all of the time. I also think that if he got certain gigs because of who his mom is; that it’s also because of who his dad is. His dad achieved a higher level of fame than his mom did. His mom was popular behind the scenes and the streets. I mean, he did well in movies, but when it’s just the same kind of character (The Weeeez) it doesn’t work for every film. He’s not a bad stand up comedian though; in my opinion, he had issues with substances and probably burned a lot of bridges. Hollywood is unforgiving, once they feel you have disrespected them to a point… they will exile you!
I'm one of Richard's cousins, and I always enjoyed Pauly Shore's movies back in the day. Reading everyone's comments about Richard is absolutely heartwarming. Lenny mentioned this video to me briefly, but I'm just now checking it out. Thanks for the glimpse into what a wonderful man my cousin was.

@@MaxChillin Simmons was against a feature length film, but changed his mind before the screening of this short. He gives nothing but support to Shore now.
@@MaxChillinit’s an interesting situation. Richard took himself out of the limelight and wants to be left alone. The world wants to thank him, let him know they love him, and thank him for what he has done. It seems as Richard isn’t doing well. Hopefully, Richard will enjoy this. My heart goes out to him, he has always been a giving person.
Richard always seemed to be "in on the joke" when doing talk shows.. like.. he knew he was perceived as an eccentric character.. but the inner light and kind heart he has is genuine.. he's nobody's buffoon.. he's a real sweetheart.. hope he's feeling better about the movie because this is fantastic .. nothing to be fretting over.. and it's awesome to see Pauly again!
I think the difference is, that Pauly doesn't act, he portrays, meaning he is a part of what he portrays, which makes what he's portraying more genuine. In other words, Pauly, IS a goofy guy, a serious guy, a down to Earth guy, and an empathetic guy. He doesn't have an ego, he just is, the same for Richard.

Pauley Shore didn't get his permission. Why should he give this the time of day? Would you watch something about your life that was made without your consent? How does failing to get consent honor someone? This is clearly a bid for relevancy on the interest of someone else's life.
I love it when comedians and teen heartthrobs realize they can act for real. Williams, Carrey, Depp, Wahlberg.. Shore is beyond a perfect casting job. I predict he starts a new phase of his career.

The world needs Richard Simmons right now! His spirit and love is what we are missing. I got to meet him in the early 80’s. He is an amazing person. Pauly did a great job and would love a full length film.
Rest in Peace King Richard. You were a light in a very dark world. Donuts with sprinkles ...those calories don't count now...but the memories you made here on earth...always will!!! 🩵
If Richard ever sees any of this, this was obviously made with a lot of love and respect. It reminds everyone that Richard Simmons looked at those that weren't looked at or ignored, and treated them with the love and respect they all deserved. This short film is better than expected and Pauly showed love and respect to Richard. Outstanding.
As someone with cerebral palsy who isn't always nice to himself, this video really made me appreciate my own unique differences. Thank you to Pauly Shore and everyone involved in this. This is wonderful ☮️💟
Kill it dude, sunny disposition is the way to go. Take shit like water off a ducks back, because shit always happens. Ive found a new lease on life at 45, by no means have i got it all figured out, but im happier than ive ever been. ive never had a relationship (who doesnt have problems?), wasted decades in mire & drugs, boo hoo. Get on with it and appreciate time and the new day. Oh i just got made redundant yesterday. just more stuff you have to deal with. eh. The sun still shines!
From one 'someone with CP' to another, I know it is easy to be unkind to yourself. Here's the thing though, CP can actually help you become special. I spent a lot of time in a wheelchair growing up. While I was in the wheelchair, I learned to draw and write. Now people tell me how talented I am but I know it was because CP slowed me down so I had time to practice. I wouldn't change that, either. I love drawing and writing. It's part of who I am. Now that I am older, I love me. Love yourself, brother. Find what makes ya special and tend to it. ❤
He seriously embraced the essence of Richard. I teared up when he was talking to the guy cause that’s how Richard talks. He always expresses the importance of self love and embrace who you are no matter what. Pauley did an amazing job.
@@bucsr.6106 I feel like he can but he definitely needs to work the character more if they do a full biopic. He's close -- biggest problem is the voice it's still nearly pure Shore which is just too recognizable... higher pitch to the voice and working on his inflections and speech patterns more... a good director who'll get the most out of him on multiple takes and he can do it...
Pauly was holding back too much. Richard was more. He looks like him but his energy wasn’t there. Which is surprising since Pauly actually has a richardesque energy in real life but it was held back while playing Richard.
As a disabled veteran I have lived alone without any family or friends for over 12 years. Today I asked myself if my life can be made to be fit for a King. And the answer I gave myself is yes. So now I make the change. Thanks to all those involved in making this film.
Richard was a unicorn when unicorns weren’t cool. He inspired so many people not just to lose weight but to feel good about being themselves. In a time when it was so very rare. You are loved Richard. I’ve got the refrigerator magnet on my fridge in 2024 to prove it 😅. And Pauly …. Bravo! You did an excellent job portraying him. I’ve always admired your work and hope to see this as a full length film someday! Much love to you both!!
Richard Simmons was a beautiful soul. It always makes me smile when I see him on TV or RUclips videos. I think the actor did an excellent job portraying him. RIP Richard Simmons ❤
This movie needs to be made. Richard, please support this story! Younger generations need to know how amazing you are, what an incredible, encouraging soul you are. There really is no one else like you. And this is definitely Pauly's role - he's perfect, not only because of his looks, but his heart also - there really couldn't be a better fit.
I'm torn because I've always been fond of Richard Simmons- but he has made it pretty clear that he doesn't want any of this and just wants to be left alone. While I appreciate what Pauly is trying to do here I think it's pretty disrespectful for people to just ignore Simmons' wishes and do it anyway.
@@agirlnamedmichael1670agreed I can't help but feel like that line about wanting to disappear is almost a dig at richard because of him saying his privacy and avoiding the spotlight is why he didnt a project done in the first place.
The younger generation doesn't care about anything but there phones. If he does support it it should be done for those of us who know him. The younger generations care about nothing!
I used to think Richard Simmons was weird but he wasn't he was pure kindness and love and we can all take a lesson to be like him , thank you to the filmmakers and to Pauly for making this
Richard Simmons is very weird, but in a world where normal is tedious and bland - always playing it safe for the sake of how others will see you - weird can be very refreshing.
Right? I did too when i was younger, but now look at the world, and all this hate & division. We need more people like Richard, this movie needs to be made. There are those with a pure heart & spirit.
Great job Pauly Shore. Richard Simmons will always be an icon. I hope he reads all of these positive comments and support and realizes how much the world loves him.
@@Deangirl86 I read that and they only made a 10 minute short film hoping he changes his mind. A lot of people have supported Richard for years and maybe he will see all the love that’s out there and he’ll want a real movie made about his life.
I had the privilege of meeting Richard, and my mom went to his gym in Ft. Lauderdale, he walked around and spoke to everyone and treated everyone like he knew them his whole life. We had a 5 minute conversation as he was curious as to why I was there. I told him my mom wanted me there in case she did not know the words in english to speak to him. (She did great) he asked me what it was like having to go to things to translate. It is a nice memory, and thank you Paulie to not making fun of him but honor the person he was.
This short film definitely honour's Richard's legacy and Paulie did a great job with this. I hope one day Richard can see this wasn't meant to mock him at all but to celebrate who he is.
I need a full length movie of this. Richard and Pauley are both treasures! They both were a big part of my childhood in the 80s and my teen years in the 90s. This actually made me cry. A damn inspiration. We need more of this uplifting in the world.
Who else look's like Richard, acts like Richard, and is silly like Richard? Pauly (friggin)Shore, that's who!! He's not trying to make fun of him, he's showing his silly side 💕
Alright. At first, I could see why Richard thought this was a parody, if he did. But, really, he is this empathetic and emotional with people. He can easily break down crying if he sees someone that reminds him of his younger self. Richard Simmons helped me lose weight and I'm a huge fan of his, I totally get what this is about. Richard, please come back to us in any way, shape, or form, sweetheart! Thank you Pauly Shore. Edit: And *yes*, Richard did swear! It's funny as Hell to hear! Look up Richard Simmon outtakes.
Definitely wasn't long enough. I remember as a kid seeing Richard on TV. He just had this way about him that made you smile. His energy and smile were so catching. For those 9 minutes, I found myself smiling again. Thank you for all the years Richard!!
No, it was the perfect length.. you all just are so used to getting your way of having shows or movies played out so long that you and the writers are all completely bored with it completely played out it’s not even what it was.. not enough people leave people wanting more you expect things to be completely drawn out and awful by the time it’s done.. that’s not content or entertainment that’s pandering to people giving them what they want because they’re so stuck in a way of only taking what they want and never seeing what they could like that you all close your minds to real art.. short films aren’t meant to be a fucking movie..

I can believe RS doesn’t want this or anything like this.
❤ that! Perfectly said!
he definitely put in his time and made a big mark on the world. Being older, i imagine a private life being a luxury.

@@Lord_GascanYes, I know. Richard did not authorize it.
I think the point of making this short was to show the real Richard Simmons how well and honest Pauly would be in the role.
Sad to hear he(Richard*) passed today, I still feel this was an incredibly accurate tribute to Richard Simmons.
Yes! When he dances off into the light singing at the end....😢

Imagine being able to say you buttonholed Richard Simmons
I've been going through a rough time and, after watching this, I sent Mr. Simmons an email just asking for some words of encouragement.
So cool what great memories! You're so lucky! Thank you for sharing ❤
That is a great story! My neighbor was one of his employees and was in his videos. Did you know a Judy back then? Short, dark haired with light skin.

As a kid...We all laughed at him. But now as were older ..you know what he was pretty cool
Aw this c0mment had me tearing up
Not gonna lie. I went into this fully expecting something like an SNL skit and left wanting a whole movie. That was way better than I expected. If there's any role Pauly Shore was born to play it's this one.
He's making a full movie.
@@chlorr1n3 Is that confirmed? Last I heard it was not.

@@PaulaEstin From what I understand, this short is to gauge the public's reaction and help decide if a full movie would be worth it.
We need more “Richard Simmons” in the world. Now more than ever.
This short was respectful and kind. I thought it was going to be a mockery of Richard Simmons, but I'm glad it's not. Awesome job Pauly.
Reading these personal stories about Richard Simmons is amazing.
That was beautiful thank you for sharing 😍
I am so sorry for your loss and struggles
So glad you held on. It's amazing how many lives this man touched with his kindness.
It made me cry. Richard - Please just let this happen - you are being honored not ridiculed in any way. You helped so many with your kindness and acceptance. We love you. Great job Pauly - Wheeeeesellllll
i was a big fan of his from Howard Stern show, and I cried a 5 tears,,,,,beautiful work.
I absolutely love Pauly 💘 He's a good guy and deserves to be recognized for his efforts and talents.
Such horrible news. Rest in peace, Richard. You will remain a hero, your workout tapes will live forever and continue to help those who need it most ❤
With the right writing, pauly shore, and more moments like these at 7:00 this will be a monster hit at the theater. Many people will relate to this. I got goosebumps "Like yourself" and "I know what it feels like to want to disappear"

Wasn't sure what to expect after hearing about it on TMZ... I'm very pleasantly surprised.. it's good to be kind to Richard AND to see Pauly again!
Its true, food never says no. Richard is a National Treasure, I hope he knows that. No one is making fun of him, we all love him and just want him to be at peace, and be happy.
If anyone is making fun of him, it's the disgrace of that person, NOT Richard.
@joenobody5913 well I hope this made him feel good cause I always loved him and I truly feel this celebrates him.
Agreed
You know he’s not dead, right? It’s sad people are talking about him, like yourself, in the past tense. He’s very much alive, and just wants to live his life in private. He was in the spotlight for years. He just wants peace.
👏👏👏👏👏
He's already said he didn't approve it.
Gross.
I read on TMZ, which lately has been pretty accurate, that during the
Sundance Film Festival on Friday night,
Pauly got onstage and told the crowd that Richard had texted him earlier in the day, wishing him "good luck" with the screening.

You are loved. ❤️❤️
You are right where you need to be, You beautiful person! You are loved.
Hang in there! We all have moments like yours. Sometimes they can feel like they will never end. But it’s really important to remember that you are not alone, there’s always something good to come and to focus on. For me, my dog… funny shows, Kpop music… a good cup of coffee… and more.

Wear that crown proudly…all the best!
Hang in there King
That is because you ARE a king.. and don't you forget it.. also.. God bless you and thank you for your service :)
You're loved, dude. There's a lot of us working behind the curtains making sure things get better. But that's me, I always hope.
Turn to God and Jesus brother. Prayers for you, doc USN
I did not come here thinking I would be tearing up. This was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen Paula Shore do.
Amen, Pauly is cut from the same stripped shorts.
What kind of tribute would be if Mr. Simmons didn't approve of it?
You do know he's not dead, right?????
@@SouthRiverStudiosSorry, you are incorrect.
@@unforgivinglyhappy9697 now he's dead
This actually made me cry. It’s an excellent portrayal of a man with a golden heart who changed a lot of lives, and made people happy.
Well. Pauly did a masterful job
In such a short form
I truly hope Richsrd knows now what a loving tribute this was.
❤🎉
Hear me out Pauly Shore makes this move, wins an award, Brendan Fraser got his big award.....Encino Man 2!!
I’m so here for this!
Shore as Simmons encouraging Fraser as the Whale.
Don't .. don't you get my hopes up. We need stoney, link, and David now more than ever ..
Yes! Paulie Shore was really such a wholesome character in Encino Man.
Bring back the weasel buhhhh-deee. WEEZ THA JUICE!!!
Great job Pauly Shore. Richard Simmons will always be an icon. I hope he reads all of these positive comments and support and realizes how much the world loves him.
Richard Simmons told them not to make this. They went against his wishes.
@@Deangirl86 I read that and they only made a 10 minute short film hoping he changes his mind. A lot of people have supported Richard for years and maybe he will see all the love that’s out there and he’ll want a real movie made about his life.
I genuinely forgot more than once that this wasn’t Richard Simmons.
The world NEEDS MORE of this.
The world NEEDS MORE Richard Simmons.
I do NOT care what anyone says, Richard Simmons has always meant HAPPINESS to me.
This could be such a huge hit !! He was always so kind and we need more kindness now more then ever!!! So shines a good deed in a weary world!!😊❤
I had the privilege of meeting Richard, and my mom went to his gym in Ft.
He’s still alive
not dead yet
But, the essence of him that we remember is however which is why this video is so needed.
That was really well done..
Pauly slayed Richard's energy.
Pauly really gotta be in more movies again.
Long live the Weasel!
Pauly is BIGGER than Hollywood, that's why there are no roles for him.
Nah
This short film definitely honour's Richard's legacy and Paulie did a great job with this. I hope one day Richard can see this wasn't meant to mock him at all but to celebrate who he is.
I need a full length movie of this. Richard and Pauley are both treasures! They both were a big part of my childhood in the 80s and my teen years in the 90s. This actually made me cry. A damn inspiration. We need more of this uplifting in the world.
We need good movies.
I think they are/where trying to make one with Pauly shore ..this might be what it turned into. Or a proof of concept for it
Agree!!
tv series
Not Pauly shore obviously, but yeah everything else you said.
Definitely makes Richard Simmons look exactly how most of us remember him. Enthusiastic, earnest, sweet, and caring. The vibe is good.
We can't say the G word anymore I guess
i don't think Simmons ever came out as "gay" ( wrote it for you) @@madhammer232
Grape? @@madhammer232
@@madhammer232Gay? He's never publicly stated his sexuality.
@@1leisure1 I said the g word... what are u talking about comment section patrolman
Definitely wasn't long enough. I remember as a kid seeing Richard on TV. He just had this way about him that made you smile. His energy and smile were so catching. For those 9 minutes, I found myself smiling again. Thank you for all the years Richard!!
I think they're planning to do a full length feature.
Have you seen him on whose line is it anyway? one of the funniest episode I ever saw.
Richard Simmons just died. I hope Pauly can do him justice in making a great film.
Even if he never did
.this was really amazing
I think he can
Richard didn't want this film to begin with.
@stephaniek2018 true but I think he'd have come around. it's very well done imo. Defintely an honoring of his legacy
But, it's Paul's voice, he didn't change his tone
