My grandmother was a Richard Simmons fan and had all the tapes. After she passed in 2004 I emailed Richard Simmons to tell him how big of a fan my grandmother was and to thank him for what he did. He emailed me back within 24 hours with the most heartfelt response. He is a good human being. Hope this will be made into a legit movie.

When I was a kid, my mother took us several years in a row on mother's day to a place in PA called Mt. Laurel Resort, where Richard Simmons would do a work out class with the mothers. Growing up a very overweight child, my mother asked Richard to have a talk with me to hopefully motivate me to lose some weight. I can remember like it was yesterday, Richard Simmons bursting through the doors to the pool area where I was playing with my brother and some of the other kids whose mothers dragged them to watch this "weird" guy work out with them in skimpy clothing. "Where's Anthony?" he shouted as I tried to hide from embarrassment. He made me come with him to a more private setting and had a conversation with me that honestly was not far off from this video. I can remember him telling me less about diet and exercising, but more focusing on just loving myself. I remember him telling me it was obvious I had people who loved me, and that I needed to love and be kind to myself. Honestly, Pauly Shore really nailed this so much that it brought me right back to that moment. I wish I was older when this happened, but I was maybe 9 or 10 and couldn't fully grasp what he was trying to tell me until much later in life. Richard told me he was going to send me a gift and true to his word, he sent me his Deal a Meal kit in the mail a few weeks later with a hand written letter of encouraging and caring words. I received follow up letters as well. I never thought about it until now how truly rare someone like that is. The man was very famous in that time period and I am sure had a very busy schedule, but somehow took time out to write letters of encouragement to a random kid he met for no other reason than just caring about people. I wish I could see him again to thank him since I wasn't mature enough to really understand the message he was trying to give me. Just love yourself.

I have my own story of Richard. My mom and I went on a cruise to lose with him. He was wonderful. He even took my mom aside and they talked for the longest time. He treated her like they were the only ones on the ship. She shared that my dad was quadriplegic. He took her and I to his cabin that night and called my dad at home to let him know that he was taking care of his wife and daughter and not to worry. He called me on stage to exercise with him the next day. We had such a blast. We will always cherish those memories and I hope he is happy. He is very missed because the world really needs him at this time. Love you Richard!!

isn't just what you do but what you don't do. Not just what you did but how you did it. Not just what you said but how you said it. Love is so simple yet the simple make it so hard. Love Is full of knowledge yet even the smart don't get it. Love doesn't cost a fortune yet fortunes are spent trying to gain it. Love does demand of you yet you are not willing to sacrifice for it. Those who only seek what love can give and do for them, do nothing for love and others and in such selfish pursuit, in turn rob themselves of love's best gift. Make this year the year you seek to sow love and not just reap it. Be love and not just think it. Do love and not just say it. Talk love and just don't fake it. Seek love and just don't chase it. Embrace it but don't enslave it, share it but don't dare boast in it. Enjoy it but don't abuse it. Free it and watch it come back. Invest in it and watch it pay back. Wash your life in it, light your darkness with it, eat your food with it conduct your business with it and above all else Serve God in it. For whatever love is and is not, it's all of, for and From Him. He is LOVE! "

I worked at KTLA studios, during a time when Richard Simmons was there working. We became temporary friends, just by seeing each other around the lot, morning and night, while he worked there. I was a lowly lot-labor worker at the time and this is exactly how Richard was to me as well. He always said "HI JEROME", sometimes from 50 yards or more away. He always gave compliments, was full of energy and was never, ever negative. Truly a very good person.

I used to work out in person with Richard Simmons at his studio, called Slimmons Studio. It was some of the most fun times of my life! Richard would show up to exercise class in drag. Over the loud music he would yell out which moves we should do next, while he pulled off his fake fingernails and flung them at us, or pulled off his wig and threw it across the room. HILARIOUS!!! I even have a picture of him sitting on my Harley Davidson in DRAG! And I’ll never forget the time when I brought my friends to his birthday party workout, where we all dressed up in costumes as cute animals. Or the time when he made my friend take off his shirt during class, so he could do push-ups over the top of him. I mean, we were literally cracking up! So much joy and fun! !!! I’ll never forget the first time I ever met Richard. He literally pinched my cheek and said, “You’re so cute, you’re so cute!” And I’ll never forget the time in class when I was having an anxiety attack because I was short of breath due to my asthma, and he literally took me outside and walked with me down the block, and said that when he has panic attacks he goes outside and listens to the birds. I miss the hell out of that guy. I’d give anything to see him again and give him another hug. I’m so grateful for the time I spent with him.

Now I can fully appreciate how brave he was to be his true self, how selfless he was in helping others and that he was just an all around good person and pure soul. We need more fruitcakes like Richard in this world to remind us that life is short and we need to be our best selves, kind to each other and that laughter is better than crying. Richard Simmons always seemed like a really genuine person, who found his calling helping regular folks to get healthier. There was no hidden agenda, no get rich scheme, or inflated ego behind what he was doing. He always wore his heart on his sleeve. When you make yourself vulnerable, and open to ridicule, you almost invite people to hurt you. Such a kind soul can only take that for so long. I can certainly understand why Richard would just want to be left alone. This film was emotionally moving. If a feature length movie were to be made in the same spirit as this short, I'd love to see it. It hopefully would lead to Richard Simmons finally being appreciated, and get his proper due.

I couldn't see being on this planet once I'd lose her & I'd roll the dice on my health. He kindly and sweetly extended a lifeline, I am sure he saved me from a self-destruction that went beyond food.

It's so weird. I'm sitting at my desk, staring at my laptop, feeling sad about where I'm at in my life right now. I'm working hard in school, but I'm a little lonely and worried that my chosen career path might lead me down a dead end. I'm not physically, or mentally, at my best, and I can feel that every day when I get out of bed to get ready for class. So it's Saturday night, I'm alone in my room, and I go to RUclips to find a distraction - anything to make me forget how lost I feel right now. I open the site, and the first thing I see is this video in my recommendations. I see Pauly Shore as Richard Simmons and I go, "Well, shit. I gotta watch that." I click on it, expecting something over the top and hilarious, but instead what I get is a very well crafted, beautifully written short film that is reflecting my own feelings (and the future I'm afraid of) back at me. And the grand message of this short? That all we need to do is make the choice to love ourselves, and the rest will fall into place. This was a message I desperately needed to hear, and I didn't even know it.
Thank you for making this. Your art just really helped someone in need, and that definitely feels like the intention behind its creation. I appreciate all of you - the cast and the crew. 🩷

When you feel lost, alone and on a dark path, you are not lost at all, it just feels that way. It’s just part of the path, the way, your journey, and it will not always be well lit. But keep walking. It’s ok to stop and look around at the darkness, the loneliness, but do not stagnate, keep walking. Look for the light, at times it may be so small, so minuscule, like a lone firefly (and what amazing little things they are, an insect that illuminates…miraculous in its own right) in the vast void of pitch black. Keep walking, look for the lights, no matter how small, insignificant or veiled they may be, because they are there, and may be hard to see at times. Keep walking, keep looking, because in time, your eyes will adjust from the darkness, you’ll find your way, standing in the light, and the darkness is just your shadow casting back from where you once stumbled.
      Keep walking. ❤

This little film captures everything we love about Richard Simmons, his energy and his unrelenting enthusiasm.

Didn’t capture his consent. He doesn’t want this movie made. And Pauly was terrible as Simmons.

Pauley was probably stoned AF when he did this bit. Maybe Simmons was when he was speading joy as well.

He really did seem to connect with people who went on one no matter where he was. What a gift to be able to look into someone’s eyes and truly connect and see them. I’m shy, and I look away from eye contact for fear of being seen for who I am. His gift of connection is immeasurable

I need a full length movie of this. Richard and Pauley are both treasures! They both were a big part of my childhood in the 80s and my teen years in the 90s. This actually made me cry. A damn inspiration. We need more of this uplifting in the world.

This was beautiful! Brought tears to my eyes. Who knew that Richard Simmons is the hero we need today? You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. Come back, Richard Simmons! Well done, guys. Well done.

The world needs Richard Simmons right now! His spirit and love is what we are missing. I got to meet him in the early 80’s. He is an amazing person. Pauly did a great job and would love a full length film.
