Last week I picked this Land Tortoise up pre-owned from a gentleman in Canada. It's in perfect shape... not one scratch at all. All the paperwork and original box with seiko price tag. I only paid $270.00 U.S. and he shipped it to me here in Seattle, Wa for only 12 dollars! I feel very very happy with this watch especially at this price. Due to your great review I had to shop and I lucked out big time.
I really love the solid negative end links on this model. The super fine seconds hand. And the sunburst dial... it's a very dark brown sun burst. Looks matt when not in the sun...
Just received the sbdy version of this watch and I love the perfect size. The slimness really gives it a much more appealing look on wrist. Doesn’t flop around like a overly tall watch. Well grounded and flat with the cushion case.
@@marioorozco6600 depends how deep you go, and if you go diving closer to end of the day because the compass bezel doesn't have a lumed pip on it. But also, they're not wanting a diving insert to actually go diving, they just prefer the look of a diver insert over the NSEW, also they probably just prefer ceramic over aluminum bezel inserts as well. I happen to agree with them, as well, because I also prefer the look of numbers over letters on the bezel, and also prefer ceramic over aluminum. 👍
The case seems to be of higher quality then the turtle.. the flanks are sharp & machined very well, as well as the cut out of the edges @ the inner lugs for the bracelet end link. the solid end links & solid links are finished very well also… what’s disappointing is the clasp. Dial has applied indices as well.. thoroughly impressed with this watch!
I love my tortoise (in blue). This is a much nicer shape than the turtle to my eyes and wrist size. Super comfortable (aside from the terrible nylon strap) and will be even better when I get a FKM strap. Great value too.
I was tossing up between this or the mini turtle. I went with this one as its slimmer. The watch just seems more balanced overall with the dimensions and slimmer case it should wear a lot nicer on the wrist. Would prefer a dive bezel but I think fit is more important.
Seiko turtle line seem to be the best bang for buck for the last couple of years.nice to see a few variations coming through, even though I prefer a divers turtle.great videos thanks.
Hey man, great video! I just got my SRPG17 and though i love the leather strap, i really want to add a bracelet, but i couldn't find an answer anywhere about where can i get one or more specific - which bracelet from seiko will fit. If you have any idea and can add a link to one - it could be amazing and extremely helpful. Thanks again!!
Much better sized and designed than the mini-turtle, markers that are applied and beveled (!!) And Seiko sticks on a useless compass bezel that like eight people want. It's baffling. $6500 SLA037 has stamped out markers, this has applied. Who thought this was a good idea?
It's north east Southwest used for a compass. With the watch being flat horizontal. You point your hour hand at the Sun and the distance between the hour hand and the 12:00 indices divide that in half and that will be south on the midpoint so move South there and then you'll know where North is. This is if you are in the northern hemisphere.
Like it would kill sieko to have are coating even a couple layers on the inside I own this watch and I love it I have a smaller rest like six and a half and It just fits perfectly it's the only higher and Seiko I have
Great review of a superb model. I have the 15K1 - wonderful green. My first Seiko an very happy with the size, quality, 11.8mm thickness. Almost love it as much as my Tudor BB Chrono reverse panda and that’s saying something.
Yeah I messaged LCBI inserts long ago when I made this video and they said they would be up to making inserts in sapphire if there was enough interest like a big group buy. 100+ ppl
Ugh. Applied indices on a field watch is stupid. Last thing you want to happen is that one of your indices fall off when you’re in the field like mine did when I was in the army.
I am frustrated. Landmaster, Fieldmaster, Alpinist and Marinemaster where official Seiko designations in the 90s. These days they get thrown around as nicknames. Even Seiko calls it Tortoise on it's official boutique website. But that's not cool enough, it doesn't push the perceived value. No ill feelings towards you, but such things don't seem as natural and community driven as Baby-whatever.

This is a home-run by Seiko. I've always loved the Turtle design but felt it was too big, this is a perfect scaled down version.

I love mine. Absolutely awesome , I can't take it off. It has 100% become a new favorite.
the brushed hands and 3, 6, 9, 12 are a great touch

Exactly my thoughts, perfect size, finally a slimmer watch but with proper 200m WR, great dial, and waiting for aftermarket diver bezels :)
Thanks for sharing! Yes aftermarket bezel diver style would be welcomed by me!
@@EscapementWatch Have you been able to find aftermarkets bezels for it?
@@marvean2519 I've scoured the mod sites and as of 1/1/23 no dice.
It'll work as a diver without the bezel, full stop.💪

Love this line. Thinking about making it my beater.

Got the beige and green one… it is indeed a home run, the shape and feel it’s like a turtle but sleeker, sexier and better
Hey...me too ! Yup, I do agree with you. Turtles are somewhat too big for me.

I have the green one and love it. Fit and size is amazing. The green one has a gold seconds hand and it just looks so good on wrist.
Nice! I believe I show the green one in this video

Finally a smaller watch I can actually wear from Seiko!!!
It's a great watch! I wish a third party would create a ceramic bezel for this.
Gonna wait out for a bit more spicier color combo, but it's definately on my radar.
This is the real baby Turtle.

Nice review! Love this watch! Im here coz i just saw this yesterday at the mall... Hope i can have one soon!
Hope you enjoy it!
Very nice! In your experience, how does the 4R compare to the 6R in terms of accuracy?
Seem to be more accurate but its all anecdotal evidence
Its technically more accurate but what's 2 seconds a day? Especially if your switching watches regularly anyways.

I wonder if they’ll do a king tortoise?
Yeah an aftermarket lumed ceramic dive bezel and this one's a winner. as it is, kinda puzzling...why would I want or need this compass bezel??
Maybe if you like to hike or explore mountains or if you are lost on a deserted island it could come in handy then.
As someone who does a lot of field work I actually have more use for the compass than a divers bezel.
hey is this a new watch?
I have the khaki version, and waiting for the AM insert bezel 😂
I still haven’t been able to find aftermarket bezel inserts sadly. Not holding my breath after the years the tortoise have been out on the market.
Yeah I messaged LCBI inserts long ago when I made this video and they said they would be up to making inserts in sapphire if there was enough interest like a big group buy. 100+ ppl
Nice watch, QC looks inline with the king turtle. Agree that the diver style would be way more useful
Is this made in Japan or China? Also is this better than the Willard for the money?
There are versions of this watch made in japan they say "made in Japan" on the dial and on the case back!
Most as Chinese I'm guessing, maybe korea
Why don’t Seiko just put a dive bezel insert on this and call it the mini turtle 2.
is $285 USD new for this a decent price?
Yes
Hopefully Uncle Seiko makes a bracelet for this one.
His 1450 President for the Willard fits the stock end link on the OEM bracelet.
@@vintageride68 bro this would look so good on a president bracelet. does it match the brushing on the bracelet and case?
@@robiv7139 I thought it was a great match.
@@vintageride68 do you have a wrist shot with the president Bacelet. I'd like to see how it looks on.

What does it mean "Home Run by Seiko"?
It means it's a grand slam.
My tortoise has some misalignment between chapter ring at the dial. Mine is a J1 model, blue.
My non-Japan model (blue) has perfect QC.
I though this was called a Seiko Tortoise
It has 2 nicknames! Choose your fav!
Turtle is hot and cold watch and somehow I don't like that big turtle design, altho I love chunky watches and everything else is great.
Feels like everything is a Prospex lately... nasty clasp for 550USD. Meh...
Ugh. Applied indices on a field watch is stupid. Last thing you want to happen is that one of your indices fall off when you’re in the field like mine did when I was in the army.
Was it a Seiko..?
Lol it's not a real watch for being in the field, it's just the looks of one

The time is now, old man.
Strange vocal delivery, difficult to concentrate, so gave up.
I like his vocal delivery. Very non threatening tone, friend-like.
