Seiko almost always over-torques the caseback. My guess is that it's done by robots on an assembly line. Believe it or not, if you take a hot glue gun and coat the back of the case with hot glue and glue it to the bottom of a metal cup, you can come at the watch from the top with a wrench and unscrew the back this way. Then peel the watch back off the cup and peel the layer of glue off. I've done this twice and it works.

I have the SPB317 and it’s one of my fave watches currently for the way it wears, the heritage, the overall package. And you are right, the only thing that let it down is the ridiculously inaccurate movement. It’s easily 30 seconds or more faster per day. I can set it in the morning to my watch and by evening, it’s another 15-20 seconds faster again…. Still love it though. I’ll probably get it regulated at some point.
Seiko’s movements are junk. Their watches are all for looks these days. Waste of money. I have an old SRP777 that still keeps good time. Older Seiko > new Seiko
I can't agree more. I have the Seiko SNE573 and it's an awesome watch. $400 with all the Seiko dive charm without the $hit movement. I have 4 6R seikos and the all keep terrible time. My Hamilton H10 and Tudor modified ETA run great.
I love this watch. They nailed it in just about every department except the movement of course. If this had a 6L or 8L it would be the only watch id own.
I'm sure they will make a 1000 or 1700 or 2000 unit run of a high end version next year. I hope I can get one. The watch seems so popular it might sell fast. But if its like the 62mas they should make 2-3 colors of it in the following years.
Yep, you're right. Alignement is and now there are issues with the movement. Solve one problem and create another... My experiance is the same. The 4R oerforms better than the 6R. Unbelievable. Great watch, but not for me with this movement for a $1.000.
Hate the 6R35. Had a willard and alpinist with 'm, had to send 'm in for warranty replacement of the movement. You are right. 4R or 6L are both better. Now I only have 6R15, two 6L35 and a Grand Seiko quartz left in the box, and I prefer those greatly. Sold the 6R35 watches.
My last timing runs (all +) 41, 24, 54, 44, 21, 30. So an average of +35.5. But when I look at a specific timing run, it reads: (+) 32.8, 4.1, 71, 52.7, 64.8. Most timing runs look a lot like this; up and down with a not bad average. Personally, I'd rather have a watch that runs fast or slow, but the same amount fast or slow all day.
I want one of these so badly to pair with my SLA057. Sadly, the 6R35 can be a mixed bag. I've owned half a dozen of them with generally good results. I've had a couple that have constantly given me +2spd over weeks or even months of wear, then one that was something like +25spd and a couple that were more like +10. You never know which one you're gonna get. Haha.
At first I saw it on the bracelet and thought it looked so ugly but on straps it actially looks good. And I think this shape is better than the Willard.
In my opinion Seiko divers belong on straps only! Just like the originals! they just look so much better! Bracelets are too dressy and fancy for this pure tool watch!
Looks good. I have a King Turtle with the 4R36 calibre, and I'll tell you it is dead nuts accurate day after day. I don't have a fancy timer, but when I check it against my iPhone it shows the exact same time, every time. My Seiko SSK001 (Seiko 5 GMT) though is not nearly as accurate, as it is 2 minutes fast every day.
Totally understand. We know the 8L version is going to be limited and we will all be fighting over those I'm sure. The vintage model price is going up because of this new 8KX.
In addition i prefer the old models which have the reliable workhorse 6r15d. Much better than the 6r35; i mean it feels like it is at the upper class. Although it has a lower power reserve which is 50-51 hours .
With a movement performance like that, the price of 1000.- is absolutely not justified. It's a great-looking watch though. Just not sure how the fit and finish would compare to my SPB077 MM200 which is for me the benchmark for Seikos at that price point. At the moment the RDUNE 6105-8000 certainly is the better value proposition.
Not sure about other reviewers as I don't watch but I get DM'd and asked about sound often so I added the section. We are tracking bezel sound audience retention section closely if it shows ppl are skipping or leaving at that point we will gladly take it out as it is difficult to film the sound. Most times we have to do it a couple times closer to the mic and edit the timing back in. nightmare basically to edit.
Hate the size of date window, this is a tool watch legibility is a must, this will cause not to buy it, spd151 Willard would make a perfect watch. Love the non reflections and just light dommed cristal. Also love badly the 4.15 crown wow. Those long markers wow, polished and brushed hands and of course the most beautiful seconds hand made by Seiko
Great video!! I absolutely love this watch!! I’m a little torn between this spb317 and the willard spb237. I would love to hear your thoughts comparing those models (pricing aside). Thanks and keep up the great content!
Oh man I love the 237...but the crown position and mood I get from the 8KX is superior. What would be good is wait for a textured dial version of the 8KX if the 317 is too plain jane for you. the 237 is awesome so it is a tough choice.
@@EscapementWatch although I haven’t been able to see it in person, that textured dial and vintage look of the 237 is a killer for me, the aging seems perfectly done, I also find the willard to be more rugged. Then again the proportions on the 317 look spot on and I really like the date execution, I kind of think I’d wear this one on more ocations, although I’m not sure. I’m from Chile and whatever watch I buy, I’ll have to do so without trying it on, so I want to be really sure 😅. Thanks for your response!
@@EscapementWatch the more I watch this video and think about it, I’m more convinced that I’ll get the spb317, all the points you mentioned in it’s favor have stuck with me. Thanks man!
Absolutely - with no 'X' and a proper movement (not to mention Everbrilliant steel and kick-ass case finish), you can sign me up. No high end Seikos this year is making me pretty excited at what's bound to be coming..... No 'X' MM in EB steel???!!!!!!
It’s interesting the case back is a motif of tsunami. In Japan, tsunami is a natural disaster like flooding or earthquake. it has done damages throughout the history, and has a negative connotation associated in Japanese. Nevertheless, thank you for a great review as always😊
Welcome! Maybe it means their watches are strong to handle the tsunami! Back in the 60's when they created their logo, drawing of tsunami''s was popular in japan culture.
@@EscapementWatch I see. I appreciate your appreciation towards Japanese brands as the same as to Swiss ones. Enjoy your expertise, and looking forward to the upcoming content!
Unfortunatly my new 2 weeks old SPB317 gains 2 minutes each 24 hrs, a very poor movement for a AU $1,400.00 watch,so its being returned for adjustment under warranty 👎
I completely agree. Beautiful watch. I have 3 Seikos with the 6R. Two total duds and one is not too bad. Even my SKX is more accurate/ reliable. Use the workhorse current Turtle movement or make it a true classic with an 8L
As with all Seikos, shop around, wait a few months after release and pay under retail. Also consider regulating the movement. After that you should be set.
@3:01 it says sapphire under the thickness in the sub box. But my bad I did not say it. Well I did but I guess it didn't make the edit and was edited out.
My problem with all Seiko models is that their movements have such hit or miss accuracy, not to mention various QC issues - no matter which price point you choose.
no not confirmed. Just my guess from my experience with Seiko. But if you just want a daily this movement should be fine as long as you get a good one.
pure luck lol. Buy from an AD and after a couple weeks of continuous use check the rate on wrist. not on a timegrapher. Use and app. Set the time to the apps atomic reading and then check every day. If its way off return to AD and use the warranty. Have them send it to seiko for service or regulation.
guess ill be sticking with my spb143...was looking for something that wears a little smaller/thinner but the finishing looks too utilitarian. my 143 has such great lines on the side of the case that this one just doesn't come close in looks. oh well!
SPB313J1 is the one I want, I hope it will be on sale sooner or later. Hard to justify Seiko full price these days but it's painful to admit, they have one of the best dial designs for my taste.
Thanks for validating my doubts. I gifted several Prospex Baby Alpinist with 6R35's. Unfortunately all were DUDS and up to -5min late per day. The 6R15 of the last true Alpinist (SARB017) was fortunately better.
Why does the 6R movement vary so much?! It's definitely some design flaw because most of the 6R movements run awry like this. You need to get to the bottom of this issue and make a comprehensive video.
I've boiled it down to the power delivery is not even. When I watch movements and the amplitude stays steady, the rate is constant as it should be. But in this one something keeps sapping its power and the delivery is erratic. I should give it to my watchmaker and ask what causing it but the watch is going back and I'm going to wait for an SLA version.
I wish this watch had a 4R and was $500. I would buy that in a heartbeat. Instead I'm left heartbroken from the poor value of an otherwise gorgeous watch.
Put a NH35 inside, the date at 3 o'clock, buy this very faithful to the original one for under 200 $ but it's a chinese (well) made homage. The name : RDunae Retangula
Seiko needs to start making these nice designs with Solar movements. Seiko's Solar watches are not that great aesthetically compared to their autos. My Rdunae 6105 8000 keeps better time than most 6R35s Seikos.
If you love this model like you say, why not send this back for a replacement with a better running movement? People love to talk trash on the 6R movement, often people who don’t know anything about movements (or someone who gets one that’s not running perfect or has been magnetized). The truth is that the 6R is one of the toughest and most durable movements ever made. It’s a tank. Get one that runs decent, regulate it and that thing can run for decades without service. Ones that run outside of spec are not uncommon, but when was the last time you heard about one failing or having mechanical issues? Tudors for example- The ETA’s in the Black Bays had problems & failures winding, the MT5652 has date changing failures and now we’re seeing crown issues with the new MT5402. Ever heard about 6R’s having any of those kind of issues? No, because the 6R is damn near bulletproof.
I hear about them failing probably once every month from Kavar jewelers warranty claims. And 4R's die too. Sometimes watches I reviewed in hand on the channel and months later its in for replacement. Some shock me as they were running great. So it does happen. If you work closely with an AD you will start to hear about it more often. Why not send it back and get it a better movement? Because the experience was soured for me and I decided I'm going to get an oem case of this watch and put in a 4r and build my own. Original Seiko case I have spoken to someone to get it for me and I have a 1 year old 4R that is running amazing 0s on wrist since day one. I'm going to put that in my 8kx oem case.
I don't know why Seiko(Diver watches) and Citizen(some dress watches) never give us signed crown. I hate so much that crown without any logo. Looks so cheap to me.
I think they want a clean look. I had some people comment that they think the "S" looks tacky on the crown. So it is a matter of tastes! They put it on the presage line even cheaper watches then this watch in price. For a company as large as seiko who makes their own everything in house, the manufacture cost to make a signed crown vs non is basically zero. But they put signed crown with word "seiko" on vintage reissues SLA high end models.
Yet another killer seiko ruined by the dismal 6R catastrophe……. Why would it be so difficult to develop a reliable plus 5 seconds movement and forget about the 70 hour power reserve…..?
My watchmaker said he if services it and oil's it proper it will run very well for a long long time. But I'm not paying 180 dollars to him for a new watch to be serviced! lol
@@alexs7758 That may be overstating it. Swiss companies do high beat movements for the same money. But my experience with my 6R35 has been good. 3 seconds a day is well within expectations. But it sounds like it’s a bit of a lucky dip.
Why are Seiko incapable of designing a reliable consistent budget movement like ETA/Sellita!!?? Until such times they should put Quartz movements in these lovely watches instead of ruining them with the pathetic 6R35
Returned this watch within 2 days. It's absolutely dreadful for the money..a complete rip-off for £800. I'd say you're getting about £300 of value. The movement is absolutely terrible for this price tag. As is the bezel miss-alignment and general finishing. A complete failure. Sekio used to be the king of value but not anymore, starting to avoid the brand now.
The actual shit THAT KILLS this watch is the hole punch date position Dugk you seiko And crow position after 4 Also no.... 8kx feels too reachy and thay naming scheme is applied the the meh 5kx 5s crap.. it makes it seem like it's cheaper and associated with the 5kx Also I don't know but whys everyone haye on yhe 6r35? Seems like an incredibly mov a 70 hour power reserve, maybe seiko just needs to service them out the factory better, has nothing to do with the mov it's just QC, there's always bad nh35 movs but nobody complains about that! Seiko just needs to *AGAIN STEP IT UP*
Seiko CAN'T WIN! They put the ISO lume marker in the chapter ring, people got mad. So they move it to 430 in a square people got mad. They make it circle *hole punch* people get mad. And next step is NO DATE and people will get mad!
I left a dislike because the way you speak is like every 2 words are a sentence, so there seem to be pauses in the middle of your sentences. You can fix this by speaking an entire sentence or idea without stopping. Anyway, I wanted to leave feedback about why I left a dislike. I liked the graphics while explaining case sizes! Hardly anyone (maybe nobody) does that.

Great review. The date kills it for me.
I like this watch Seiko always makes awesome watches
Love the tropic strap - can u tell us what brand it is?
from Nivada Grenchen
@@EscapementWatch thx !
I love this watch. They nailed it in just about every department except the movement of course. If this had a 6L or 8L it would be the only watch id own.
Also, those metal keepers are absolutely detestable. They need to add to solid rubber keepers
I'm sure they will make a 1000 or 1700 or 2000 unit run of a high end version next year. I hope I can get one. The watch seems so popular it might sell fast. But if its like the 62mas they should make 2-3 colors of it in the following years.
I get +3s/day, couldn't ask for for more!
I haven’t really had good luck with 6r movements I find them very erratic .
Yep, you're right. Alignement is and now there are issues with the movement. Solve one problem and create another... My experiance is the same. The 4R oerforms better than the 6R. Unbelievable. Great watch, but not for me with this movement for a $1.000.
Would you please do a video comparing this to SJE093?
All my 6r movements are inaccurate over 20 to 30 seconds and the 4 r s are within 7 to 8 seconds
Haha.
Killer review!!! Been eyeing this Willard for awhile… maybe someday 😍
My Seiko SSK001 (Seiko 5 GMT) though is not nearly as accurate, as it is 2 minutes fast every day.
my king turtle is also very accurate. im very impressed with it. and it costs way less than this. the spb317 is a beauty though. love the size.
No more 6R35 for me. I will wait for 6L or 8L movement. I cannot justify another Seiko Diver with no an upscale mechanics. Great work Bro !!
Totally understand. We know the 8L version is going to be limited and we will all be fighting over those I'm sure. The vintage model price is going up because of this new 8KX.
I want this watch so bad. If we don't get a 6L version, I might fold.
understood
In addition i prefer the old models which have the reliable workhorse 6r15d. Much better than the 6r35; i mean it feels like it is at the upper class. Although it has a lower power reserve which is 50-51 hours .
With a movement performance like that, the price of 1000.- is absolutely not justified. It's a great-looking watch though. Just not sure how the fit and finish would compare to my SPB077 MM200 which is for me the benchmark for Seikos at that price point.
At the moment the RDUNE 6105-8000 certainly is the better value proposition.
Honest question. Why do many reviewers "listen" to the bezel action? Why is the sound of the bezel rotating important enough to mention?
Not sure about other reviewers as I don't watch but I get DM'd and asked about sound often so I added the section. We are tracking bezel sound audience retention section closely if it shows ppl are skipping or leaving at that point we will gladly take it out as it is difficult to film the sound. Most times we have to do it a couple times closer to the mic and edit the timing back in. nightmare basically to edit.
another great review bro!
Please how this compared to tudor 39mm or mm200 does it looks smaller than it stated ??
Ok in that case the 237 for the texture dial and you like the rugged look of it. The 8kx does have a more refined trim look.
@@EscapementWatch thanks for your imput!
@@EscapementWatch the more I watch this video and think about it, I’m more convinced that I’ll get the spb317, all the points you mentioned in it’s favor have stuck with me. Thanks man!
Can’t you get the movement regulated or regulate it yourself?
I tried after. Check out my instagram for a video reel on the issue
I have to get this!
Absolutely - with no 'X' and a proper movement (not to mention Everbrilliant steel and kick-ass case finish), you can sign me up. No high end Seikos this year is making me pretty excited at what's bound to be coming..... No 'X' MM in EB steel???!!!!!!
I'm hoping for EB as well!
What model is the blue one at 4mn ? Rond index looks better I think and the date a 3 is also better...
It is a rolex explorer case 36mm seiko mod.
Appreciate the energy you bring to these reviews.
Yeah my SKX 7S26 is doing better then COSC. I'm ready for a 6L/8L version of this but its so hard to hold back. Love how it wears so much.
As with all Seikos, shop around, wait a few months after release and pay under retail. Also consider regulating the movement. After that you should be set.
No problems with a 6R for me.
MM200 Blue Ice.
It's waaaay better than a 4R.
Hello , may I ask where you got this tropic strap ?
Nivada Grenchen
Seiko doesn’t seem to care about issues with their movements
No mention on whether the it had sapphire or a hardlex crystal???
@3:01 it says sapphire under the thickness in the sub box. But my bad I did not say it. Well I did but I guess it didn't make the edit and was edited out.
My problem with all Seiko models is that their movements have such hit or miss accuracy, not to mention various QC issues - no matter which price point you choose.
Olive green please?
OH YEA!
So is a model like this but with better movement confirmed? I really want one as my daily watch so I can keep my BB58 for best.
no not confirmed. Just my guess from my experience with Seiko. But if you just want a daily this movement should be fine as long as you get a good one.
@@EscapementWatch any tips on how you get a good one? Or is it just luck?
pure luck lol. Buy from an AD and after a couple weeks of continuous use check the rate on wrist. not on a timegrapher. Use and app. Set the time to the apps atomic reading and then check every day. If its way off return to AD and use the warranty. Have them send it to seiko for service or regulation.
Bought this at US$640 after discount from a HK dealer. It’s a great watch but I think I wouldn’t have bought it at $1k.
Wow! That price is like dealer cost so they probably didn't even make anything. Which store did you get it from?
@@EscapementWatch Grace Watch & Clock in Hong Kong
Reminds me a lot of SRPE93
guess ill be sticking with my spb143...was looking for something that wears a little smaller/thinner but the finishing looks too utilitarian. my 143 has such great lines on the side of the case that this one just doesn't come close in looks. oh well!
It does wear smaller then its size indicates because of the 39.5mm bezel and thin profile.
SPB313J1 is the one I want, I hope it will be on sale sooner or later. Hard to justify Seiko full price these days but it's painful to admit, they have one of the best dial designs for my taste.
I saw the 313 at Kavar Jewellers when I picked this one up. Very nice white dial.
great piece but the MM200 IS NOT A BETTER watch IMHO
I don't believe I said better watch. Just talking about finishing on the case.
@@EscapementWatch ohh
Very good style
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi~ Tropic Strap which brand ??
Nivada Grenchen
Thanks for validating my doubts.
I gifted several Prospex Baby Alpinist with 6R35's. Unfortunately all were DUDS and up to -5min late per day.
The 6R15 of the last true Alpinist (SARB017) was fortunately better.
i own many seiko too, 4R >>>>>>>>> 6R, cant believe we paying more for a shittier movement
I should give it to my watchmaker and ask what causing it but the watch is going back and I'm going to wait for an SLA version.
what is the brand od that tropic strap?
Nivada Grenchen Tropic strap.
I bought the tortoise and I call it the slim willard. It is also the cheap(er) willard. And I love it.
The tortoise is not a willard line. Its from the turtle line but of course you can call it what you please!
You are right the 6r35 is totally crap movement. I have it in my new baby alpinist and it loses 27-35 seconds a day! Horrible!
I don’t know why in the hell they didn’t put the date a 3 o’clock like the old
they probably will when they make a high end version.
I agree, this one looks amazing. But it should be at least 42 mm in diameter and 44 mm would be perfect!
Just get the rdunae,it's more authentic
sadly tru! But its not a real seiko!!!! The ideal situation is to get a restored original one with crown rebuild so its water proof
Seiko needs to start making these nice designs with Solar movements. Seiko's Solar watches are not that great aesthetically compared to their autos. My Rdunae 6105 8000 keeps better time than most 6R35s Seikos.
The bezel looks misaligned
spb237 looks better no? more vintage look imo
But I'm not paying 180 dollars to him for a new watch to be serviced! lol
My 6R35 runs at +/- 3 seconds per day. Nothing to complain about.
@@richardhoulton4016 same here..Order from Gnomon..I have 3 of them with the 6r ... Zero issues.
6R is a great movement
@@alexs7758 That may be overstating it. Swiss companies do high beat movements for the same money. But my experience with my 6R35 has been good. 3 seconds a day is well within expectations. But it sounds like it’s a bit of a lucky dip.
That date window is terrible lol
Why such a robot-like narrative/pace?
Why didn’t they release this one with the bracelet as well? Big miss imo
Why are Seiko incapable of designing a reliable consistent budget movement like ETA/Sellita!!?? Until such times they should put Quartz movements in these lovely watches instead of ruining them with the pathetic 6R35
We can be friends. Solar quartz as an option. What’s not to like? 6 months on a full charge and accuracy.
Yeah the 6r movement is shit. Such a shame as the watches with this movement certainly look the part
8000 isn’t a Willard and neither is this.
I really dont like the SP logo..seiko, please remove it..bring back like old seiko design..
Seiko is just a joke company! Expecting customers to pay hundreds for watches with crap movements? Shame on Seiko.
Seiko sales are stronger then ever so people are buying in super high numbers!
The actual shit THAT KILLS this watch is the hole punch date position
Dugk you seiko
And crow position after 4
Also no.... 8kx feels too reachy and thay naming scheme is applied the the meh 5kx 5s crap.. it makes it seem like it's cheaper and associated with the 5kx
Also I don't know but whys everyone haye on yhe 6r35? Seems like an incredibly mov a 70 hour power reserve, maybe seiko just needs to service them out the factory better, has nothing to do with the mov it's just QC, there's always bad nh35 movs but nobody complains about that! Seiko just needs to *AGAIN STEP IT UP*
Seiko CAN'T WIN! They put the ISO lume marker in the chapter ring, people got mad. So they move it to 430 in a square people got mad. They make it circle *hole punch* people get mad. And next step is NO DATE and people will get mad!
Seiko's new business model - overpriced watches.
Not 8kx... it has no relationship to the skx or 5kx
Yes I know but the 8K is for 8000 its is based on. K= 1000. The x is for it being the prospex version of the 6105-8000
Garbage watches
I left a dislike because the way you speak is like every 2 words are a sentence, so there seem to be pauses in the middle of your sentences. You can fix this by speaking an entire sentence or idea without stopping. Anyway, I wanted to leave feedback about why I left a dislike.
I liked the graphics while explaining case sizes! Hardly anyone (maybe nobody) does that.
