These animation graphics evolved almost to movie Quality. Unlike rebels I really appreciate the constant evolvation
They even used motion tracked suits for this fight. Maul is being played by Ray Park in this fight sequence and voiced by Sam Witwer. That's why this fight looks so good.

Also mad props to Maul for at least trying his damnedest to stop the plans of Sidious. He did even better than the Jedi did.

As evidenced by the countless Jedi knight and Masters that have falllen to it.
Also, Maul's plan was to return to his side, only Sidious rejected him(Season 4), and now it's plain old revenge.

You’re forgetting that the only person who knew about Padme was Palpatine. The fact that none of his closest allies knew that spells exactly why they didn’t see it coming. The only thing that would make Anakin turn is the only thing about him they don’t know about.
ALL this Mandalore 💩 just for Maul to not only get Kenobi, but to take out Anakin before he goes too far. Maul was actually trying to save them

I love the fact he uses the word "groomed". So accurate, it really shows how Anakin was manipulated at an early age and he really was the victim.

He looked genuinely relieved when she said she'd help him. Unlike Ezra, it doesn't seem like he's trying to turn her to the Dark Side... I mean, maybe in the long run, he was, but in this instance, he was only trying to forge an alliance, because he knew he couldn't stop Sidious alone.

@@kungolaf4499 In Disney canon, Vader is more powerful than Palpatine, as his injuries strengthen his connection to the Dark Side. The only thing in Sidious' favor is that Vader is highly vulnerable to Force lightning via his cybernetics, and cannot use the technique himself.
Maul never would've been able to defeat Palpatine or even a prime Anakin I believe they were just on another level of power that Maul simply couldn't have reached on his own he had so many opportunities but never defeated a prime Kenobi and died at the hands of a decrepit one
With Ezra I think he was really looking for a sort of friend/brother after losing Savage. He even tells Ezra that they could be like brothers
You're missing it. At this point Maul and Ashoka are very similar in the Force. Neither are Jedi or Sith, Light or Dark.
Why isn't Dave Filoni in charge of Star Wars? He clearly understands and respects the material he is working with.

You have to remember, even though Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney, his word is law. Filoni even mentioned that he had George drop in from time to time to present concepts to him and ask for his opinion, but often George would reject ideas because it conflicted what he was trying to present.

Maul was the only one who truly saw. He could have lied to Ahsoka and told her that he only wanted to warn Anakin and Obi Wan about Sidious. But he had enough honor to tell her the truth of his motives. I don't know whose story is more tragic. Anakin's or Maul's.

Well remember Maul is the only free agent that worked directly with Sidious, he knows how he works and knows how to see his former Master's hand at play.

OMG! I just had a thought! What if, because of his foresight in the force, Palpatine orchestrated his own kidnapping to keep Anakin away from Maul. If Anakin had actually gone to Mandalore that might've changed everything.
Kakashi Girl exactly what I thought. It was probably also a way to test Anakin again by allowing him to kill both Dooku and Grievous. Obviously the latter escaped though
Actually the attack lead by grievous was a surprise to Palpatine himself, which is what helped him not look too suspicious sometimes.

Chopper's character development, hillbilly versions of clones who weren't even in the same divisions during the war n somehow met up, the wise agent kallus, vader who was kind enough to let all of his enemies escape every time he fought them , the powerful inquisitors, not to mention the show's amazing animation style! Rebels was great!
Sucks that his "running away again, Lady Tano?" line makes little sense now. Originally it sounded like they encountered each other before and he was way too strong for her, causing her to retreat.

@Val Brodsky That's definitely not what most people think. In Rebels she fights Maul for less than a minute before leaping away from the fight, prompting the line from Maul. It would be weird to use "again" in that context if the first time what metaphorical (running away from the Jedi) and the 2nd time was physical.
After 12 years we can see the clone wars plot come together .
That really makes us understand ahsoka's guilt in rebels it's not just because she left the order, maul told her what would happen to anakin and she chose not to listen

I think Maul would do anything and everything short of becoming a Jedi. If he had succeeded in bringing Obi-Wan and Anakin to Mandalore with Ahsoka, Maul would have told Obi-Wan everything and I think Obi-Wan would have believed him. Maul might be a Sith and have hurt Obi-Wan many times, but I don't think he ever lied to him. Maul has honour at this point, he doesn't lie. Obi-Wan knows this. So he'd believe him and keep Anakin on Mandalore with Ahsoka and stay with them both
No way Maul would become a Jedi. He was terrified and in rage when he had a vision of him as a Jedi. He would probably want Ahsoka to become his apprentice.

Ahsoka agreeing to help Maul (until he blew it by revealing he plans to kill Anakin) might as well be this century's "I am your father" reveal, and I say that because at least for me personally, it came as a _tremendous_ shock.
I was totally expecting her to deny him right then and there, with the whole "You're evil, you've killed innocent people, blah blah blah" speech, but for her to initially agree to help the bad guy (well, he's not completely bad, but he's definitely done more bad things than good ones) she was sent to apprehend was such an amazing twist, and I have to tip my hat to Dave Filoni and the TCW crew for such amazing writing.
When you realize how close Maul was to defying a prophecy and avert destiny.
But fail because the champions of destiny are too dumb or naive >:-(
Not really, he would have been killed by Anakin. Sidious would have also foreseen Maul’s death at Anakin’s hands or he would have done it himself before Anakin

@@bobwilson679 Maul and Ahsoka can’t take on Anakin especially if he fully embraces the dark side during that fight. And he probably would because he would feel betrayed by his apprentice. The skill and power between Anakin and the Maul/Ahsoka is just far too great. And even then, Sidious would feel that coming. Palpatine would kill Maul and Ahsoka before it even happens
@@anakinc.6024 If Maul and Ahsoka left when Maul gives her the offer, and they arrive in time to change anything, it would probably be just barely in time to stop Anakin from stopping Mace from killing Palpatine. If they arrive during that time, then Palpatine will have his hands full with a four of Jedi Masters. If Ahsoka and Maul confronted Anakin, I think they would stand a pretty good chance, considering Ahsoka put up a really good fight against Vader in Rebels (she lost, but still). Even if they couldn’t beat him, they would just need to stall him long enough for Mace to kill Palpatine.

He's known parts for awhile. When his mind was restored he commented on how the clone wars started without him.

This was amazing. Ahsoka truly wanted to join Maul, until he said they need to kill Anakin. It's understandable that she didn't belive it. And it's so much better than Kylo Ren and Rey scene from TLJ, because here we really understand why Ahsoka refused and that earlier she actually considered joining Maul.
Ahsoka and rey are both my favorite female characters from star wars
@@starwarsprequelsandsequels7582 I don't like Rey. Mostly because she was ruined in episode 9. Her being no one was so much better. It showed that you don't have to be related to anyone to be a hero. Also, when she refused to join to Kylo in episode 8 was disappointing, she didn't have much reason to refuse his offer. She's just overpowered and doesn't need anyone to achieve success, that sucks. Ahsoka is way better.

Wasn't Anakin the one who killed all the sith (don't @ for the sequels, for many fans they are not canon) and completed the prophecy of the Chosen One? "Too much light or dark destroys the meaning of the life as we know it" - The Father, Mortis arc. Anakin did exactly as he was destined to do: bring balance to the both sides of the force. And balance is not one side dominating and the other completely erased, they both are part of the force as a whole

“As my masters new apprentice” Goosebumps Goosebumps. Heart stoping
Maul doesn't care who wins the war, he just needs Sideous dead. He was honest and genuine here, he actually wanted a truce and her help. He knew that something big was about to happen, but didn't know specifics. It was a great move to keep him around, cast aside by the sith but knowing their plan. If only Ashoka believed him.
There should be alternate ending where he refuses to fight her and tries his absolute best to convince her and she tries to convince him that if he truly is right that he would help her find another way. And then they join forces after coming to a compromise and have some wacky adventures while saving the galaxy or just trying to survive. This is one thing this galaxy DESPERATELY needs.
This season was everything --- EVERYTHING --- the new movies should have been.

Imagine what she would have felt when she found out that Anakin has indeed became what Maul foretold to be. She trusted in Anakin as he trusted her when Ahsoka was accused, but that trust backfired in a worst way possible. While she passed away the last chance that could have stoped what was going to happen (although I don’t think that she would have actually stoped Order 66 even if she teamed up with Maul)
She does find out in Star Wars Rebels

@Plo Koon That scene is well written as well. Except Kylo is sunken within nihilism and apathy while Maul is trying to save the world. Maul's request is much more same-y than other Star Wars request but Kylo's is completely different; the old wrinkly bad guy is already defeated, he just want her at his side.
There isn't anything inherently bad about the scene, the writing or the characters, people just disagreed with the decisions made. This moment relies completely on your movie knowledge about Sidious and nostalgia, TLJ does none of that and tries to create its own steakes which I admire.

Problem is that in creating those steaks it had to destroy previous established characters and concepts. An example is that Luke Skywalker was to learn the lesson of failure. However he has learned that lesson multiple times before such as when he lost to Vader in ESB. As for the concepts, the hyperspace collision was a beautiful scene. But it disregards previous concepts and doesn't fit into the larger scale of things. I agree though that the throne room scene was pretty as well and managed to show Kylo's conflict in a decent way.
This episode was perfect. Simply perfect. From animation, to dialogue, plot and suspense. P-E-R-F-E-C-T
If you synch up the window shattering from this scene to the window shattering from ROTS, Ahsoka activates her lightsaber at the same time Palpatine tells Anakin "you must choose". She says Maul's vision is flawed at the exact moment he decides to protect Palpatine, proving his vision right

Just shows how much faith Ahsoka had in Anakin. It's really sad that she sees this come true. It must have broke her heart when she found out.
It’s amazing how we know everything about this scene and how both of these characters and their stories end, yet it carries so much weight. There are no twists left, and yet this is my favorite scene in the entire series all because of how it’s directed and how intense it is. The glass shattering as it pans back and forth between them, the fact that Ahsoka was going to join him until he mentioned killing Anakin, everything about this is perfect, and they were somehow able to turn two characters telling us something we already know into an emotional rollercoaster full of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Ahsoka was no longer a Jedi at this point. She was simply in shock and couldn't accept the truth because she cared too much for Anakin. Like dude she was prepared to join Maul had he never told her about Darth Vader.

Man Maul's voice actor / dialogue just brings the character into a new level.
Maul became the best character of the show. His development and arc was truly epic. He went from someone you rooted against to an unlikely hero
Mm so Maul does know what Anakin is. They were both right at the end of the day. Maul was right since Anakin became Darth Vader and destroyed everything. Ahsoka was right too though because in the end he saved the galaxy from the evil he helped unleash.

You can't really know someone who's plunged into desperation now can you? The circumstances Anakin had with Ahsoka were different during RotS though, he knows Anakin damn well, but Anakin got desperate enough to change, to become different from who he really was.
I just love every second of Maul here. His emotions are so perfectly fleshed out though both his voice actor and animations. The desperation and relief when Ashoka agrees to help him, followed by the frustration and pain in his voice and eyes when she shifts to a fighting stance. It's all just so well done, I'm glad that even with the newest movies being less then favored by at least half of the fan base there's still great stuff like this coming out.

A few observations:
First, since Maul was a dark side user, the plans of the dark side and Sidious plans would not be obscured to him as they were to the Jedi. Because the same clouding effect were not engaging him in the Force.
Second, I think that this whole episode is a tragedy. Ahsoka saying, "Your vision is flawed" is not so much a device of irony as a device of tragedy. It is Ahsoka's tragic defense of Anakin that stops Maul from alerting others or taking actions in time to stop Sidious Plan. It is Ahsoka's not telling the council that also enables the tragedy. Her feelings of love for Anakin become an instrument of the dark side in terms of preventing elements of fate that would have been able to stop the events.

Artistically, I think this is the best thing to come out of Star Wars. Their designs are top notch character work, the scenery animation in the opening seconds is absolutely breathtaking, and Ashoka's perfectly realistic facial expressions towards the end? Pinnacle of animation.
Poor maul, this was the closest he ever was to being a good guy and doing the right thing and no one believed him

Ahsoka has seen firsthand how Anakin’s rage and anger takes him over in certain arcs in the show, but still trusts that he hasn’t turned to the dark side despite maul. Shows the trust that Anakin and Ahsoka have in each other
Makes you wonder if Maul knew about the prophecy. When ahsoka says "to bring balance to the force" Maul genuinely sounds a little surprised and shocked when he says "to destroy it"

I love how the Jedi preach about how only Sith deal in absolutes while being blindly hypocritical of that fact. Ashoka in this situation is thinking far to narrow minded to see that there are far more ways for a force user to become a dark side user than to willingly join. Just like Kenobi was far too arrogant at the time to see the ground work at hand by the Sith all because he never trusted Dooku.
Ahsoka here is no jedi, but someone very much privy to the hypocrisy of the jedi council. She is only putting the trust Anakin put in her when they exiled her and she had to go through hell and back. Anakin and Padme were the only ones that trusted her to the end. It is only fair that she returns him that faith and trust.
Clone Wars redeemed Anakin and she only ever got to see this stubborn, impulsive but a genuinely good person so of course if a sith says Anakin is suddenly to turn to the dark, she'd reject his vision, cause that is not the Anakin she grew alongside. She is not strong with the force enough to suddenly foresee someone's fate.
Kenobi was probably arrogant, Ahsoka here, just ignorant.
