Wow, the movie was much more lighthearted than the later seasons of Clone Wars. I don't remember TCW being a fun comedy (as it's been a long time since I've watched the earlier seasons), but there is definitely something endearing about the campy, lighthearted nature of the first few episodes of TCW compared to the much darker, more mature tone that the later episodes took on.
Once a greater plot develops, that tends to become the main focus in writing. Earlier on it was literally just meant to be various stories from the Clone Wars themselves, but towards the end the bigger picture came into focus which put the other aspects, such as the comedy, as sidenotes.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the whole of the Clone Wars is essentially meant to be mirroring Anakin's mind and as such it does start like that and gradually as the seasons go on it gets darker and darker.
It's similar to the Harry Potter movies where it started off quite light hearted until everything went "oh sh*t, this ain't no laughing matter anymore".
Oh man! I'm so glad I can finally watch the gunship explosion scene after 12 years! I remember seeing it in the trailers but being so weirded out that it wasn't in the final cut of the film
Man, it’s weird seeing the animation quality then compared to now, 12 years later. It’s like that MAD skit said; they can’t get any less wooden than Pinocchio.
Since we rarely see the snail tank appear I wish this scene was in the movie it looks great in the movie and I wish we saw more of this vehicle in the show like the spider Droid and the Hellfire tank, we rarely see these vehicles
I'm glad that they cut the rancor scene out of there. Jabba having one made sense: he's a crime lord, he wants some entertainment, having a vicious pet to tear apart those who displease him is very much in character for him. But this rancor being here, where there are no crime lords, doesn't make sense. Why would the separatists go to all the trouble of taking over a B'omarr monastery AND shipping in a rancor?! And if they didn't do that, then why would the B'omarr monks have a rancor? They wouldn't! It makes no sense for the rancor to be there. Though I do wish that they'd kept the banter between Anakin and Ventress, to show that they had met and fought before.
@Bartosz L It’s still not. It’s on Disney+ now, but just like Visions, they’re both still non-Canon stories. Dave just has a deep respect and appreciation for the OG Clone Wars, so he wants to references certain events from it in TCW. He even referenced similar events from the Ground Battle of Coruscant in that ‘03 series during the Siege of Mandalore arc. Genndy’s CW is still not canon though, but you can always have head canon + know that at least *some* of those events happened in CW.
