This alone is BS. Ashoka shouldn't be able to hold her own against Maul. She is only knight level in power right now. They make villians too weak in this shit show.
Smh completely forgets that Padawan Obi-Wan and old Obi-Wan defeated Darth Maul or the fact that after one minute of the battle Ahsoka was already tired while Maul showed no signs of being worn out or that a younger Ahsoka took on Anakin and Obi-Wan (yes they held back but even the two of them still couldn’t disarm her which was their goal to somehow stop her from attacking) or that she fought evenly with Maul in Rebels (and Ahsoka was on the run for those last years after Order 66 so she couldn’t train because there were no Jedi; therefore her skills can’t improve much and have to be close to Season 7 Clone Wars Ahsoka) or the fact that Maul is usually only defeated purely because of his arrogance except Sidious (but even then he thought he and Savage could take him).

This fight is great because Maul and Ahsoka are the single two best developed characters in the entire show.

Lol yes. Name me at least one moment when Darth Maul actually caused the overall plot of the Clone Wars (I mean the intergalactic conflict, not the series) change its flow?
@@anton.chigrinetc.96 The show was never about the overall plot of the Clone Wars. It was about how the war impacted Anakin and Obi-Wan through the eyes of Ahsoka and the Clones. Maul was a HUGE part of Obi-Wan's arc in the show.
There were all too many moments and arcs without any trace of Ahsoka, Anakin, or Obi-Wan, for you to talk about it like that. The Clone Wars are talking about the Clone Wars. And Maul didn't impact it at all. He was having some "plans" that he was trying to implement...somehow...but all he did in both TCW and Rebels was failing on that. If he actually had plans.
the fact that Ray Park himself motion captured Maul makes this duel a lot crazier.

I like how at 1:24 or so they actually take a moment to show just how winded Ahsoka really was, like yeah she was talking a big game to throw off maul but it shows that it still took a lot of effort to fight him off, something probably even more impressive given that she hasn't been in practice with her lightsabers for some time.
Yeah, in the star wars download it says because she never had to fight someone on this level before.
So she has a bit of adrenaline pumping from a bit of fear. And they wanted her to make this a really difficult challenge making her give it her all.
@starscream is lord True, I think they implied by force ability as well. If you want you can check the download, I'm obviously not the creator so I wouldn't know everything. All I know is that they wanted to make this fight a real challenge for Ahsoka; not handed to her on a silver plater(at least at that point in the time line as she is still just 17, Rebels though is a different story).
Sorry for the long reply
starscream is lord yes and no,

So given Ashoka only exist in new canon, the statement holds true as she never existed in eu thus never fought legends grevious (who would have absolutely slaughter her)
Maul was the better duelist and he should've won if he wasn't so arrogant

Kiro Alveranga Maul hasn’t held a lightsaber in a while either. And he didn’t want to kill her
@@kiroalveranga7771 Wow wow, I get what you mean, but even in Rebels, a battle between Maul and Ahsoka could go either way.
Also the inquisitors aren't really all that tough, barring the Grand Inquisitor, they'd be a potential threat to Palpatine otherwise, which he wouldn't allow. Their job on paper was to hunt down Jedi, but in reality it was more to identify Jedi so Vader wouldn't be dispatched over false alarms, and low-skill padawans. Any Jedi Knight, or Padawan with more than a few good years of training would make short work of most inquisitors.
@@geassdemon6202 I agree with you too. I'm not underestimating maul he is still not someone to be messed with.

Maul does say with certainty in Rebels that he can't take Vader alone, and he already lost his Crimson Dawn organization by then. I get the feeling we're in for a Vader vs Maul movie later, where the Empire crushes the Crimson Dawn, and Maul is forced to flee, ultimately stranding him on Malechor.

When Ahsoka proves to be better than Rey in two minutes than Rey in three movies
My thoughts exactly
Rafael Enriquez Tbh bro the trilogy was messed up in episode 8. After Thant any thoughts of character development went out the window.
To be fair, Ahsoka has had the better part of decade to have her character developed. It's not really fair to compare the two.

Maul lost the same way he did to kenobi he got cocky
No. Most of both fights, Maul was pushing her. It's sort of similar to the Ahsoka, Vader duel where Ahsoka gets a few hits in, but is overall on the defensive.
That's because ventress is very fast like ahsoka. In rebels ahsoka would beat ventress . Darth Vader and maul are slower than ahsoka so they have a hard time landing a hit. Ahsoka has so much potential and I know she lives up to it in rebels but she could become so much more.

She's technically right, Anakin spent most of his Padawan years training against a hologram emulating Maul's style, and at this point he's master of several lightsaber styles which he passed on to Ahsoka. Maul would struggle against Anakin.
@Samba Warrior Yeah but at this point, he used it as a blunt instrument vs an extension of himself, as did Maul. It would pretty much be a battle of barbarians, Anakin is a much more skilled Barbarian.
I mean, Maul is no match to Anakin lol. Vader would destroy him and Anakin would wreck him as well.
Maul smacked Ahsoka and would be even with Anakin. Writers had to move the plot along so after he whoops and disarms Ahsoka they make him do some stupid shit like fall over (like always) when in reality he would’ve just force chucked her off the ledge. I don't think Maul has a good chance of winning, but I think he can win and even if he doesn't, he'll make it pretty close. Michael Zahabi well to be fair against those fanboys, Maul did disarm Ahsoka a few times and had a majority of opportunities to Kill her, but refrained from doing so with the small chance that she would reconsider and join him.

Because Dave Filoni
Because Ray isn’t in it.
For those who’ve read the Ahsoka novel and the Son of Dathomir comics, has anyone noticed the retcons made in this episode?
I LOVE THEM!! (though arguably the Son of Dathomir comics weren’t really retconned)
Given Maul’s overarching motivations in this arc, I love Ahsoka’s roasts in this episode than in the novel (“You’re only half a Sith.”) For that matter Maul has proven himself to be a far more intelligent character than we’ve expected. Now that the balance of the galaxy has tipped towards the dark side, Maul is now aware of Sidious’ plan and what will come to pass. Everything he’s done in this arc is all to prevent Sidious’ plan albeit in his own bid for power.
Yes, I agree

She was so annoying during season 1 and 2 but now she's more than badass

@@user-ip5xn9ks9k Yeah, that doesn't make them better than they are though. Regardless, the choreography is just downright atrocious at times. I'm rewatching some old episodes right now and it's ridiculous how noticeable the change in quality is.
The dust in the room they were dueling in was better than the sequel trilogy
@@sivad1025 Tbh it's still entertaining to watch. I guess what gets audiences past the clumsy choreography is the intertwined narrative and story development happening concurrently. I'm not saying this structure doesn't also happen with later material, because it does for the most part, but OT gets forgiven for being OT - classic and dramatic. I get the nitpicks, but I also can't help but not get bored every time I watch those old fights whenever I'm doing a rewatch; there's just something magical about them regardless of it imo.
From being a little force sensetive girl taken in by Plo Kon, then to being a padawan for Anakin Skywalker, and now to this? I can hardly believe how I've grown up to watching this series and Ahsoka. Me too! Not just the choreography though. It's just a beautiful scene all around. I love when the window shatters and there's a quiet moment as the glass floats. Then Witwer and Eckstein give such great vocal performances when Maul is trying to tell her the truth but she's unwilling. There's so much emotion packed in the quiet moments that lead up to the duel itself.
The Phantom Menace: Darth Maul Was Cool.
Clone Wars: Darth Maul Is Awesome.
yyyyep. maul was cool in episode 1 since he was visually interesting and him being "the new darth" was innately fascinating.
the clone wars show reinvents him as a genuine character with genuine agency. his motivations, ambitions, fears, and personality are laid bare.
This has got to be one of the smoothest lightsaber battles in Star Wars. Every move flows from the last and into the next. Exceptional choreography!
"You'll find I have many qualities to dislike" her intonation as she attacked Maul reminds me of Vader's "You are unwise to lower your deffences"
And Luke's quote "You find I'm full of surprises"
Ray park is the body Sam Witwer is the voice. The perfect combination
I love this fight. It has enough realism that the sequel trilogy poorly and heavily depended on, yet it has the flair the prequel trilogy was known for.

@@billclark5055 She´s even at lowballing around Maul level, 100% confirmed by Maul´s statements that she´s way above Savage Opress to the point he states "Together we can kill Darth Sidious". Pretty sure she aint match for A game Maul, but this aint A game Maul, A game Maul died ages ago after his brilliant fight with Qui Gon Jin he lost everything to his hubris, this Maul, while smarter hasnt caught up with what the other force users have been going through, he missed a good chunk of the clone wars in the first place and by the time he came back his first goal was a power grab and a revenge, those werent even the right goals to focus on, Rebels even got him some character development in that regard, by having him choose to focus on getting sith artifacts and learn more about the force to find a way to defeat Sidious in the shadows.
Incredible fight. Ashoka managed to keep up with maul, but not straight up beat him, which is impressive. Love the smack talk to.
Maul went easy on her, he wanted her to join him so he didn't try to kill her ( he offered the position 3 times during the fight, it's clear he had a different motive )
Kavin Suresh yeah I know, but she was still able to keep up.
Kavin Suresh I don’t know why you treat that as if it’s something noteworthy. If you’re holding back in a fight and get beat, that still means your opponent is better than you. Also find it hard to believe he was “holding back” when he swung several killing blows at her.

What's absolutely ridiculous is that she's right. They nerfed Maul into the stone age just so Ahsoka could have a ghost of a chance. This is _Darth Maul,_ a vicious cyclone of death whose experience on Naboo _should've_ taught him not to underestimate people as young as Ahsoka. this was one of the best (THE best in my opinion) fighting scenes in the entire canon star wars universe
If there is one aspect of clone wars I really enjoy, it is how they manage to maintain the same visual design and animation in every season. It really makes you feel as though you are watching the same show. Like maul looks exactly the same in season 4 and 5 as he does in this season even though those seasons were released a few years ago. It’s just nice to have developers that understand the concept of continuity.
Minus One you can definitely tell that with each season their is a jump in quality, however seasons 4-7 have proven quite seamless thus far, but Season 7 is by far the highest quality we have ever seen in Clone wars, from the action all the way to the characters motions and the way they express their emotions so clearly, compared to earlier seasons where it was more difficult to read emotions due to the more stiff motions. Primarily just Season 1 but that is forgivable since it was after all the first season testing the boundaries of what animation could do.
One thing I like however is that their are very few instances where we see Tears rolling down characters faces, but they are seen in powerful moments. Like Waxers death(he was my favorite and it tore me apart when he died), and I’m pretty sure as Ahsoka was leaving we saw her eyes watering.
And even though it’s not in the same show we see Ahsoka cry in Rebels when she comes to the realization she might have had a hand in Anakins turn to the Dark Side as Vader, it’s a gut wrenching scene with a great performance by Ashley Eckstein in my opinion.
Actually no, I noticed the model of Maul changed, but for the better, he actually looks like Ray Park in here
And Ahsoka actually looks like a seventeen-year-old version of her younger self from the first movie, instead of the Rebels version, which... I don't know whose face it is, but it sure as hell is not Ahsoka's.
You can instantly tell when they switch over to motion capture. It doesn't have that classic SWTCW large, choppy and fast movements. It's way more smooth which isn't a bad thing. A very well choreographed fight.

Maul is and always will be my favorite character 😀👍
The Wrath of Darth Maul is one of my favorite Star Wars properties. The more Maul we get, the better.
Picking a favorite wasn't hard for me; Snoke was wasted, Vader failed utterly at intimidation before _Rogue One,_ and Palpatine and Dooku's characterizations struck me as the paper-thin, tie-women-to-railroads types. Grievous was nerfed into the stone age after 2003, and I'm not even sure I'd count Ventress as a villain.

0:55 I suspect judging by Maul's fear of Vader on Malachor. That might happen in the future.
Patrick Donnolley Vader could always be one of the contributing figures that destroyed Mauls Crime Syndicate, and who knows maybe we’d even get a Lightsaber Duel between them, red on red, with the winner being Vader, but Maul would still likely present a challenge.
@@Fi_Sci_ Odds are that some time between Solo and Season 2 of Rebels. Palpatine got sick of/bored of Maul running around. So he sicked Vader on to him. They fought and Maul lost but escaped.
Patrick Donnolley This would back up why Maul is aware of the fact he cannot defeat Vader alone, essentially admitting they had a previous engagement where Maul lost.
Would be interesting to see it come to some form of media whether it be Animated or a Comic. Seeing how Mauls criminal enterprise came to an end would be interesting, and we already know it doesn’t fall in Solo, so it would be further past that point and some time before Rebels S2 finale.
