nate595 Becaue IMAX nowadays just slaps their name onto any old tiny theatre screen and tries to claim it's a real IMAX by charging the same premium price when it's not true IMAX. Unless you have a true mega screen IMAX near you, Dolby Cinema is a way better experience.
luckily i have 2 actual IMAX Mega Screens near me. AMC 16 Burbank where they also have AMC Prime & a Regal Theatre. AMC Universal Citywalk 19 has an IMAX BUT its NOT an actual Mega IMAX. it only plays Standard 2D IMAX & the price for it is just wrong
+Dan Rigsley I go to IMAX for the enhanced sound and picture quality though. Tampa used to have one of those mega screens but even without it, I still IMAX regularly.
AMC YOU NEED TO PUT A NOISE WARNING IN YOUR DOLBY THEATERS. I had NO IDEA what I was in for when i walked in there but that was the last show time so I bought the ticket, what followed was 1.5 hours of my brain rattling inside my head and a pounding headache after it was all over. I dont care about your DOLBY THEATHRES, I couldnt rush to get home so I could pop in two asprins. GEEZ!!!!
+AspenCookie I figured as much. It seems to be becoming more of a problem, and it's one of the reasons I don't go to theaters anymore. They confuse clarity with loudness. If something has clear with well balanced sound, the volume doesn't need to be cranked up so that you can "hear more" like some people would say. Why the hell would I want to go to a theater and risk hearing damage, when I can go home, slip on my headphones and adjust the sound to the perfect level. And I guarantee the sound will be better from my headphones than this 48+ speaker bullshit. Seriously, how many films are going to have separate audio streams for each individual item in a scene. This is why you don't need 50.1 surround sound in your house. Geez, this seems dumb. Edit: The end is the main reason I don't go to theaters. The major problem with this is that it's still a theater. It doesn't matter how good anything is, since other people will inevitably act like assholes. Also, get your feet off the seat and stop digging it into the leather, you asshole.
I dunno, the sound trailer is pretty loud. You shoulda complained. I like a brain-rattling experience myself, but i'll admit, some theaters can go overboard to the point of sound distortion. 70mm & 6 Track stereo sounds more like your speed.
This is so hilarious because I’m having my first experience on May 31 for A Quiet Place. So funny that we’re so excited we had to look it up on RUclips. Plus, I only paid $4 for each ticket, 4 in total, so $16 total for 4 tickets because of the T-Mobile Tuesday’s app .
1917 was one of my early AMC Dolby Cinema exposures. It was incredible. What a movie. Ford Vs. Ferrari was fantastic too. The sound and quality of the visuals is the best around.
Saw Baby Driver couple days ago at one of these Dolby room theaters and I am totally blown away. It was a beautiful, life changing, eye opening experience. Can't wait for more.
i sat in the second section of the the second set of rows and it was perfect. it's the section behind the handicap rows (just elaborating some more). Ive only been once but planning on going for spiderman homecoming. Hope this helped.
pigtasticOINk714 I sat in the 'E' section, to specify, E10,11,12 (3 people), 3 sections behind handicap, you said you were in the area between the handicap and back so we must of sat around the same area. Spider man is a very great film, the visuals are excellent with Dolby
yup! saw black panther for the 3rd time but at the Dolby theatre and the experience was AMAZING! every scene gave me the chills! planning on watching Avengers infinty war 2 in there1
These dolby theaters are fantastic. I saw endgame in imax 3d last week and in a dolby theater last nite. Dolby theater experience was even better. This theater can even make a bad movie seem good.
Definitely better than IMAX 70mm (aside from pure resolution) but not as good as Laser IMAX for movies with large chunks of the movie shot on IMAX films.
I assume you are talking about Faux-Max, the branded 'bigger screen' theaters. The real Imax screens are insanely huge and those that have been upgraded have dual 4k laser lit IMAX projectors. Dolby Cinema is at best on par with the image and sound quality but behind when it comes to jaw-dropping size. DC is better in one key area: You can reserve your seat so you don't have to get there an hour or more early and wait in line.
That Random Boy Of course! I just watched a teaser demonstration of it in Dolby Vision when I went to go watch Justice League. I can’t wait to check it out with the amazing picture and sound quality!
Saw Spiderman Into The Spider Verse just now December 17 2018 and that was THE BEST movie going experience I've EVER had. Will go to Dolby at AMC again for Captain Marvel and possibly for many others in the near future.
I just saw It: Chapter 2 and it was my first experience with this. SO worth it! I feel like I can’t watch another movie in a theater again without doing it this way. It was amazing! You could feel every rumbling step of Pennywise in his spider form for instance. I can’t wait to experience the new Star Wars this way
Do all amc that show dolby cinema have the entrance like that. cant wait...the amc near me is showing wonder woman! in dolby cinema....so This would be a treat.
I love Dolby Cinema. I’ve seen a good handful of movies in this format ranging from Infinity War, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, Solo, Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse and Fantastic Beasts 2. I think the seats are much more comfortable than what iMax has too offer. The screen is around the same size anyway. Can’t wait to see Captain Marvel, Star Wars Episode 9 and Avengers Endgame in this format.
Mr Mario Dang, that’s awesome. Wish I could’ve seen Infinity War in a Dolby Cinema. I’ve only seen Solo, And-Man and the Wasp & Alita: Battle Angle in Dolby though, I’ll for sure check out Avengers: Endgame & Star Wars: Episode IX in Dolby.
The seats are nicer since its a newer viewing experience. However if you go to a true IMAX theater the IMAX screen is much bigger. At liemax theaters the screen size is pretty much the same. Where Dolby wins out is for movies shown in IMAX that don't have much if any scenes shot in IMAX like star wars episode 7 (it had a 2 min scene and that was it for a 2 hour movie) but for movies shot mainly with it like Avengers Infinity War the IMAX screen size more than makes up for the seats
Great video. I experienced a movie, Inside Out, at a Dolby Cinema at an AMC time in Kansas City. As a video and audiophile myself, I was extremely impressed! I've seen about 5 movies with Dolby Atmos but this was my first time seeing the Dolby Vision laser projectors and they did not disappoint.
I went to the El Capitan twice four years ago with Dolby Atmos. The movies I saw were Oz the Great and Powerful and Frozen. Dolby looks totally cool with it's digital projection and surround sound.
Jarod Reddig I watched Beauty and the Beast out of curiosity honestly didn't know it was on Dolby didn't look at the screen. man oh man it was absolutely breathtaking
BluRay disc has better audio playback ( worth it if u have good speakers ) ,also disc will look better running 1080p than direct tv or most streaming apps
@@BublySofaPotato Dolby is better than IMAX because HDR Screen(Screen is perfect sized) and moving audio including the comfy recliners(My first time is with Godzilla King Of The Monsters). Its your choice though and im going on May 31(If im staying home from school or getting picked up early)
Hey CNET, (btw love your stuff) I just wanted to point out that these projectors are now equipped for 3D. It depends on the studio sending a 3D formatted version to the theater. Mine here in Dallas has had two in the last year. Independence Day: Resurgence and Rogue One. Let me tell you, the 3D in Dolby is remarkably better than the Real3D currently in the market. Absolute clarity. No ghosting of any kind. The glasses, which I have a pair, (don't tell AMC) are state of the art with clear glass lenses rather than the plastic dark ones. There is no discoloration nor any loss of brightness and they are battery powered. You will love 3D if you did not before. I found that this new 3D technology completely immersed me so I could enjoy the film without the occasional distraction of the imperfections plaguing our current 3D experience. I need to make a full review soon!
I was lucky to see The Hobbit in the first Dolby Cinema in the world in Eindhoven The Netherlands. So far I've not seen a better auditorium specially made for movies. Not only the screen and sound but the whole auditorium breaths film. It's so sad that there are no Dolby Cinema's here in England where we live now.
Shellyman Vol.2 Not even close. They blow away any consumer OLED monitor. The cost of installing dual 4K projectors in Dolby Cinema theaters start out around $250,000 and extend to $500,000 or more.
Didn't think this was that cool! I've never been to one but after this video I'm definitely gonna check one out. We have a Dolby Cinema equipped theater not far from us
Every AMC should have one BUT they are too cheap to do so and even the IMAX near west palm sucks. You're better off buying a home theater with quality subwoofers. Most theaters sound is worse now than in the 90's because they were forced to upgrade to digital 5.1 surround sound at one point so you could totally tell the difference. Now however... all of these new sound formats aren't even available when you see a film and sound better at home... that's pathetic.
That screen is the WRONG aspect ratio- there's absolutely no excuse for making screens natively 1.85 when 2.35 movies are supposed to look bigger and wider. Bet this theater doesn't even have top or bottom masking for 2.35 movies so they letterbox everything.
I should have saw The Rise of Skywalker here ........ but I wanted to be one of the people to go to the opening fan event but unfortunately the theater was not epic like this one ..............
Fantastic. But all the technology in the world wont stop the assholes with body odour who check their facebook messages on their phone while crunching candy noisily during the movie.
The in-seat speaker are annoying and really take me out of the movie. There's noticeably improved contrast, dynamic range, and brightness. However, the screens are pretty small; the one I went to was just a normal theater that AMC converted. This is compared to one of the better IMAX screens I see films at which is 100x80 feet (it seems like it's at least twice as big). It's a far superior experience, especially without those stupid rumbling seats and is the same price. Also, they'll sometimes show 70mm prints in that theater, which in my opinion is the best experience you can possibly have.
@@suthegoat I saw us in Dolby and it was great. Pq needs some sharpness. The audio can be loud at times and rrhe seats shake. Temp can be a little hot.
Love the concept and the execution shown here looks great. These Dolby Cinemas have a seemingly widespread issue though - red wash from the stair LEDS on the screen ruining the presentation. I've read complaints from 2015 about this, and when I just checked out a NEW buildout of a Dolby Cinema (Oakbrook 12) it had the exact issue - 30+ percent of the screen washed out red by the stair lights. Holy cow. Presenting movies is literally the only thing you're supposed to be good at, and you're charging a Premium here. Get it together AMC.
In my experience, the AMC near me has Dolby but with blue lights/stair LEDs like in the concept pictures, but they turned it off when the movie started, and everything was actually pure black. Dunno why some AMC's have Dolby with red lights.
Dolby Atmos sound + Dolby Vision picture, together, (Dolby Cinema). To me I like Atmos and Dolby Cinema better than the IMAX Theate rooms, for blockbuster films. We have a Dolby Cinema at AMC Westgate, Glendale, AZ. I watched Star Wars and 1917 in Dolby Cinema and it was larger than life immersive and concussive, moving audio!
You should apologize to AMC and all of us who watched that horrible ending
Lmao
Yea bro some busted on himself before the film even started
Mannn watching avengers in this theater was amazing the experience was as unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before
We hv 2 of them now in Colorado.

@@suthegoat I saw us in Dolby and it was great. Pq needs some sharpness. The audio can be loud at times and rrhe seats shake. Temp can be a little hot.
Not when they don’t mask right, they aren’t.
Can't wait until they get one I the DFW area!! Mi just finished my 7.2.4 ATMOS set up :)
InChrist87 there’s one in Clearfork, been to it 3 times already
dam that ending made me want to curl up and die😊
The theater that I go to seems to be out dated. It was built in the late 1990’s.
Brian was at this theater earlier. 🤔
So hyped bouta watch Endgame in Dolby
@@trinithrasher they left the black on when the credits rolled in us...
Saw 1917 in AMC prime at my local theater and am driving an hour for amc dolby to see it again today
I just saw ghost in the shell at one in Az. It was awesome!
