Not just an entry level bike, it’s also an exit level bike! For me, now in my seventies, it’s a great bike to downsize to. Easy to handle and live with. Mainly I’ve got it for shorter runs, say under 100 miles. It takes a pillion/passenger easily. The 900 has 18” front wheel, the 1200 has a 17” front wheel. The Speed Twin is a great bike too. Nice review thank you.

Great review Darcy. I’ve just bought one and would echo your comments. The standard saddle is probably more comfortable from my experience as it takes about 1.5hrs to get saddle sore. Having just traded in from the Speedmaster there is less oomph but more fun on the twisties. A six speed gear box for the occasional motorway driving would be useful but it isn’t a deal breaker as you say.

@@racheltaylor6578 Hi that’s where I got mine from too🙂 When I bought my bike it wasn’t available as an accessory from the triumph dealer but world of triumph had one.
Good review of a good bike. I have 2018 Street Twin with the additions of a main stand, fly screen & a T100 stock seat (much more comfortable). The stock Pirelli Phantoms were awful, hard ride, tramlining etc. Changed to Avon Spirit ST's last year & what a difference - smooth & confident ride.
I took delivery of a 2021 Speed Twin 3 weeks ago. After first 20metres I realised there was something very wrong with the bike even though it had recommended tyre pressures in it. Rode it home (100km) and added 6 psi to both ends. Much better, but still not as good as it could be. A change of tyre is in its (near) future. Other than that, I'm a happy chappy.
I just finish a 2 week bike trip from Switzerland through Italy, Monaco, France and back with my speed twin 900 (competition green). Was amazing and so much fun in all the windy roads.
The interesting thing about short front mudguards, is that most of the mud is already flung off the tyre and onto the engine/radiator, hence the inner surface of the mudguard is likely to be one of the cleanest parts of the bike. But of course a longer mudguard would change that.
I recently had one & loved it ... then I made the mistake of riding a Thruxton. After the Thruxton the 900 felt too small ... but the 900 never felt underpowered. It's a great bike.
Nicely done. I test rode most of the Triumph line up during last summer's Sturgis Rally. The Speed variants were ok until I rode the T100 and T120. I musc preferred the Ts. Dual clocks and bigger front wheel are more to my liking. Actually, as I near my seventh decade, the T100 would be my choice. Loved the engine and everything just felt and sounded right.
I don't care about going fast, but I love getting up to the speed limit very quickly. Also, I generally don't like the sound of a low revving engine like this one, but I just love the looks.
Hi Darcy, thank you for the review. If you like the 900 Speed Twin, I think you will love the 1200 version. All the attributes of the 900 but a bit more fun and with a superb more grunty engine. Not too much, just perfect when dealing with modern traffic etc...
Great machine, as you said the power is adequate, more than adequate really, I have much more powerful bikes in my garage (and 1 less powerful 🙂) but having ridden the 900 it’s a really good enjoyable machine, and so much better than those poorly finished underpowered royal blinkin Enfields 😂, I saw in the comments that someone is thinking of trading their RE in on a 900 , well done that man very sensible 👍👍 (word of warning check that any triumph 900 is late 2019 onwards and has the 65PS engine, prior to this they used a soft cam that spoils the engine). PS the only thing that I feel let’s it down is the single clock, it would have been much nicer without those ugly bulges for the idiot lights, and even nicer still if Triumph had spent a few more pounds and fitted a Rev counter.

I just watched your video on the 1200 speed twin great reviews on both bikes I was surprised that both the 900 and 1200 weights were the same I personally think the 1200 is better choice considering the extras on the 1200 bracks upside down forks and of course more tours and power prices are good on both bikes thanks for your reviews ah almost forgot 1200 6 speed gearbox
Hello Darcy. Nice review. I own a new T100 Bonneville. Whole day comfort with the standard seat. The Street twin in youre review is not with the standard seat. Maybe that’s why its firm. Gr Eric from Holland
Great review! (also the Old Man loved the Street Twin I remember in his review a while back). I have a 21 Street Twin and they are such good bikes, as you say, you don't need more power. On a 1500 mile tour I got 72 mpg, the tank at 12 litres seems too small but I think I never let it run low enough, it should easily do 150 between refills. As others have commented, you have a few accessories on that one; the seat, tail tidy, indicators, bar-end mirrors and screen. The original seat has more padding, it's pretty comfortable. Accessories on mine are heated grips, centre stand, grab rail and Fox rear shocks - all recommended. I agree with you that the standard exhausts look and sound great, no need to change them. Any comments on the Pirelli Phantoms? lots of people hate them, I've not changed them yet as they seem reasonable. Triumph now fit the Michelin Road Classic...
Cracking review Darcy, I bought one at the beginning of the year and absolutely love it, having had them in the 1970’s and 80’s I wanted this one because it looks like a modern Bonneville not a sixty’s bike, though I totally agree with you that the front mudguard looks nice but isn’t any use, even with a extender so as I ride all year I modified a Royal Enfield Classic 350 mudguard to fit for the winter and not only does it work brilliant but it doesn’t look out of place either, all the best buddy 👍
The stock sound is phenomenally good! Beautiful bike all around, thank you for reviewing it 🙂 Incidentally, I was looking at prices for electric bicycles and my head almost popped! It’s around motorbike money and that seems absolutely insane to me 😄
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I know what you mean! For that amount of money I would also consider a 125cc bike too. I guess it depends on the situation but it does seem excessive, doesn’t it? 🙂 Keep doing you man, cheers! 👍🏻
Good to see you giving a positive review of the 900 Speed Twin, the only negative for me with the bike is the central single instrument pod , it would look so much better with twin clocks (Speedo & Rev counter) other than that it's a great mid weight retro, on another note how are you getting on with your Ruroc helmet ?
Absolutely agree, I’ve got the 1200 version I. The garage now and that has the twin clocks which are absolutely beautiful! The ruroc helmet is great, little bit noisy but I’m yet to find a helmet that isn’t haha. I wear earplugs anyway so it’s not an issue.

Thanks for the review, I appreciate your content and I think you handled the person telling you bikes should be outlawed on weekends appropriately. Would be interesting to see how you feel this bike stacks up to Moto Guzy’s V7.. I like the special because it has the dual gauges . They should have those gauges on all the V7’s .
Thank you! For me I prefer the guzzi. It’s perhaps less refined than the triumph but it has so much character and makes you feel like not many bikes can
I'm 57, the last few years has been refreshing to see all these retros, Triumph, RE, V7, Z900RS to name a few. C'mon Honda where is the 400/4 and 500/4.
Those W800's are the best kept secret in motorcycles. There are faster bikes, that's for sure, but in the real world, they are a darned fine motorcycle.
Loved your guys reviews of the fatboy and street bob and all of those aspirational bikes, but this one is the one that's actually realistic for my pocketbook
From what I've been reading Theft of 'fancy peddle bikes' is on the increase, sometimes using violence to make off with them....The Triumph is probably a better bet in that respect.. A friend l ride with here in Spain has a 900 speed twin....He loves it...We ride the twisty country roads at least once a week....
considering the price; the tacky exterior of the dials, the lame headlamp cover, and the noticeable lack of mudguard, should all be drastically better than they are. However, that engine is bloody stunning. Great video as ever Darcy, your commentary adds so much character to descriptions of the bike.
All bikes are quick especially if relative to their smaller weight which smaller cc bikes normally have. I have a 250 cafe racer Honda which is quick as anything else on the city roads (upto 70 then it dies). On the open road it might be slightly down on power but still enjoyable. I have an Africa twin too and doesn’t feel that much quicker accelerating just more comfortable and capable at higher speeds
It actually only makes 3800 RPM at 120 km/h in 5th, which actually is very low for a motorcycle. I believe a 6th gear would only bring smaller steps between each gear... because I don't think they would gear it any taller
That's the "sweet spot". Same applies with ADV's, Supersport's, naked's and yes, modern classics... Nice blend of torque/power, satisfying enough for most roads and not so much that you're forever trying to find roads where you can take advantage of the extra engine you've bought. I wish Triumph returned back to air/oil cooled engines though. I must be one of the few that prefers the classic sound, feel and tune of the older 360' firing parallel twins.
A 900 is pretty awesome in many bikes but the Speed Twin 900 is a parallel twin with a kinda low HP rating. Nm is great but… The 1200 (my bike in the picture) is where it’s at. Sooo grunty, great breaks, lovely gear box and the Sound is to die for! I have the brown quilted seat. Yes it is harder than the standard seat but hard? No. Have driven for two hours straight without any effort.
I bought one when they first came out . Loved the look and sound with the Vance and hinse pipes fitted. Found it soon runs out of puff for a 900 . In away my V7ii does not . On paper the Triumph is more powerful. But the power is relatively high in the Rev range even more so in the newer models with 10 hp more. Power figures are misleading as depends where the power is relative to gearing.
I bought a 2023 last year, I got an ironstone, I didn't come with that seat, mine is more comfortable. Except the mudguard, the only annoying thing is the breaks making sound when you are using them.
Good bike. The bench seat is rather like the one on my SCR950. Looks great, you can move around, but it gets uncomfortable. Good low-down torque like the SCR. Clunky gears: hate them. Nick
as this being a 900cc twin with a square engine (bore = stroke) and low strung the milage is really good. (4.1 l / 100km)... in the real world large bore short stroke engines give terrible milage. I think that many modern bikes are far to powerful for the road.. and to get the power they often have large bore to stroke ratios and rev to the moon. a bike like the Moto Guzzi seems like the perfect power for the road with some torque.. 65hp and a wet weight of 203kg.. This is a power to weight ratio of 0.32 hp /kg.. There is a new legislation on sportscars in south Australia.. you need a very special license to drive a car with a power to weight ratio of more than 370hp pr tonne.. This is still crazy fast... A Toyota Supra with the 3.0 turbocharged engine has 383hp and a stunning torque at 368 lb-ft @ 1,800 rpm... and a curb weight of 1540kg... 0.4 hp / kg as a limit on roads bikes might not be a bad idea...
I've always like the Speed Twins, but what were they thinking off with that truly terrible bit of bent metal holding the front brake master cylinder. Not the only bike with this, but why not incorporate it into the lever like on the Bobber? Sorry if I'm like a broken record on this subject :-)
Nice review, great looking bike, I've got a 22 RE Interceptor, love it but don't know if I'd have preferred one of these speed twins a few years older for similar money I might px for one next year. Thanks for the video 👍
Hey man, cool vid, but the footage seems a bit overexposed at times, i watch your videos for the beautiful landscape and the calm vibes so i hope you fix that exposure…👍
I test rode one of these a week ago. Very easy to ride, but ultimately bland, like they ironed out any character. I’m not sure you could call that a fault but it’s not for me.
It's a great machine, mine has the standard seat, so way more comfortable on a longer journey than the bench. Nice bit of analysis-pity about the annoying numpty on the push bike; shame you didn't include him in the commentary, it would have given us all a good laugh. "Pedal off mate."
Motorcycles are designed as a package and / or sum of their parts. Riding a motorcycle is a vibe. Specifications are mostly used as a sales tackle. IMHO 😮😮
How many miles/kilometers you think you could make, being really gentle and efficient with the throttle, with a full tank? And what would be the distance autonomy being aggressive with the throttle?
I live in the states and with a choice I would take the Guzzi even if the dealer network for them is very sparse. I agree with you that leather panniers would look better and I would give a couple hundred dollars for an aluminum front brake master cylinder that sits closer to the controls, not perched way up there on that ugly bracket.
Your Motorbike is equipped with the older Pirelli Tyres, which unfortunately don't really do it justice. The 900 comes with Michelin Road Classic Tyres nowadays, which are far better. The Bar End Mirrores are highly recommended, as the standard versions are pretty much useless. The quilted seat looks nice, but its ergonomics leave a bit to be desired. Did a "day trip" from Germany to England last summer, and was very pleased with the standard seat on these 650 mls. The headlamp is not the brightest, but can easily be upgraded with a LED-bulb by Philips or Osram. I never missed the 6th gear, not even on the German Autobahn, instead i find the 6th of the 1200HT engines being too long. The Speed Twin 1200 is a completely different animal than the 900, as it's a proper sports bike. Far too sporty for my taste.
The power this Speed Twin 900 produces is less than my 43-year-old Benelli 900 Sei, it produces 80 hp at 8400 rpm. I know they are totally different machines, but the old Benelli produces 16 hp more than the modern Triumph. When the Benelli was new it was never regarded as a road burner as it's power delivery was quite modest compared with it's Japanese rivals.

Short mudguards are a prime example of form over function. If you ride any significant amount of miles, you know how ridiculous minimal mudguards are.

"Just an old fart" made me laugh, hopefully just as loud as it was needed to harass him. What a sad man.
Great job as always, you and the Old Man are capable of making me wanna buy every single bike you review, even those that I normally wouldn't think too much of.
Thanks 😊 much appreciated 👍🏼
Thank you! yes I didn’t realise it was an extra as they didn’t give me a list of the upgrades on the bike
Great looking bike. If only the Bonneville I bought new in 1978 had been this good.😅
Still ride a t140 they are gorgeous ,parts are cheap and once sorted are very reliable.
Own the 2022 Model. Aka Street Twin. Great bike love it.
Good choice!
It got quite a nice tone in that exhaust! Surprising:)
Very well done review. Your videos just keep getting better and better and very professional and easy to watch with no bulls**t. Nice machine
Thank you very much!
Brilliant idea!
The stock sound is phenomenally good! Beautiful bike all around, thank you for reviewing it 🙂
Incidentally, I was looking at prices for electric bicycles and my head almost popped! It’s around motorbike money and that seems absolutely insane to me 😄
Thank you! I know it’s crazy isn’t it. I’d rather have a 125cc than an electric bicycle
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I know what you mean! For that amount of money I would also consider a 125cc bike too. I guess it depends on the situation but it does seem excessive, doesn’t it? 🙂
Keep doing you man, cheers!
I am 73 got a 2018 street twin lovely bike and quite low just the job for my 5ft 6inch frame and yep can flat foot it.Got the front mudguard extender and main stand easy peasy to do all your own mantainance.Good review and yep love this bike.😁👍🌹🇬🇧
It’s perhaps less refined than the triumph but it has so much character and makes you feel like not many bikes can
Nice bike, great review and location. What a great Monday deal at the pub ❤
I Love your “spot of lunch” bits. Makes you be your own. 🙂
Why not have your own channel and leave your dad in the dust 😁
Thank you! I now have my own car review channel called Darcys drive! But my dads not going anywhere on this channel anytime soon 😊
Great review of a nice little bike. Really like your asides and anecdotes. I really like the style you are developing. Keep up the great work.
Much appreciated!
Love mine, most bikes have short mudguards, just put a fender extender on.
Yes most do, I think more bikes need longer fenders
I would pay the extra and get the t100 twin clocks are a must hopefully you get a chance to review the t100 soon.
The Ol’man has just reviewed the T100, his final thoughts video will come out this week! I’ll make sure to give it a go next year!
Great review Darcy 👍 love that 900cc engine 😀
Me too!
Ps. Your new bike looks really cool 👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan cheers buddy! 👍 Absolutely loving it!
I'm 57, the last few years has been refreshing to see all these retros, Triumph, RE, V7, Z900RS to name a few. C'mon Honda where is the 400/4 and 500/4.
Indeed!
I think I would take the V7 Stone personally. If I wanted more power, I would take the 1200 or the Z900RS.
I have the same bike and love it. I average 74mpg on mine and that's not riding like an old man. Great review. 👍
Fantastic!
Good review.. the alloy wheels put me off visually, I’d prefer spokes.. but it’s still good. Thanks for the video.. very enjoyable.
Thanks for watching! I see what you mean
Beautiful video - fine composition. -Really shows off the beauty of the bike. Thanks!
Many thanks 😊
900cc should definitely be enough. My old 900 triple pulled like a train.
Well done sir. You sold me on the bike. But I already own my "chill" bike, W800 cafe. But if I didn't, I do like that look.
Just test drove one. That’s a fun bike.
Sure is!
Great review - love the exhaust sound.
Thanks, me too it sounds fantastic
I have the similar 2017 Street Cup which is even better looking! Has the same 900 engine.
Sounds fantastic, and yes definitely harder to steal that a push bike!
considering the price; the tacky exterior of the dials, the lame headlamp cover, and the noticeable lack of mudguard, should all be drastically better than they are.
However, that engine is bloody stunning. Great video as ever Darcy, your commentary adds so much character to descriptions of the bike.
Many thanks 😊
All bikes are quick especially if relative to their smaller weight which smaller cc bikes normally have. I have a 250 cafe racer Honda which is quick as anything else on the city roads (upto 70 then it dies). On the open road it might be slightly down on power but still enjoyable. I have an Africa twin too and doesn’t feel that much quicker accelerating just more comfortable and capable at higher speeds
Yes you are quite right!
Thats a great looking bike with a lovely sound.
Amazing review
Thanks, pleased you enjoyed it 👍🏼
It actually only makes 3800 RPM at 120 km/h in 5th, which actually is very low for a motorcycle.
Nm is great but…
The 1200 (my bike in the picture) is where it’s at. Sooo grunty, great breaks, lovely gear box and the Sound is to die for!
I have the brown quilted seat. Yes it is harder than the standard seat but hard? No. Have driven for two hours straight without any effort.
I’ve got the 1200 in the garage now, review coming soon! 😁
Yes that’s quite true, I did prefer the feel of the V7 too
I'm lucky enough to have a 2016 St Twin & a 2019 Speed Twin 1200.
Both have what I like & want......TORQUE....!
I bought a 2023 last year, I got an ironstone, I didn't come with that seat, mine is more comfortable. Except the mudguard, the only annoying thing is the breaks making sound when you are using them.
Nice bike.
I would change the seat & fit a proper ,longer front mudguard.
Maybe later on a hotter cam to make more out of the engine.
Thank you for the review!
My pleasure!
Nice job Darcy - thanks!
Good bike. The bench seat is rather like the one on my SCR950. Looks great, you can move around, but it gets uncomfortable. Good low-down torque like the SCR. Clunky gears: hate them. Nick
Nice review and location. 👍
Thank you!
as this being a 900cc twin with a square engine (bore = stroke) and low strung the milage is really good.
Don't accept ANY limits.
They will just keep decreasing it!
Good one Darcy…. Enjoyed it. ❤
Nice Review dar Darcy🎉
Thank you 😁
Those titanium cycles came from a fantastic shop called Windmill wheels
I've always like the Speed Twins, but what were they thinking off with that truly terrible bit of bent metal holding the front brake master cylinder. Not the only bike with this, but why not incorporate it into the lever like on the Bobber? Sorry if I'm like a broken record on this subject :-)
Nice review, great looking bike, I've got a 22 RE Interceptor, love it but don't know if I'd have preferred one of these speed twins a few years older for similar money I might px for one next year. Thanks for the video 👍
Fair enough, it’d be worth a rest ride to see what you think!
Hey man, cool vid, but the footage seems a bit overexposed at times, i watch your videos for the beautiful landscape and the calm vibes so i hope you fix that exposure…👍
You seem like a nice guy with a nice bike ! I’d love to have one for myself ✌️
Nice video, I'm with you, less is more. The Guzzi, Interceptor and GoldStar have more character but its each to their own.
I had the triumph 900 thruxton with shark exhaust pipes on that thing sounded great and it had twin clocks in my book looks a lot better
That sounds awesome!
I test rode one of these a week ago. Very easy to ride, but ultimately bland, like they ironed out any character. I’m not sure you could call that a fault but it’s not for me.
When are you going to make a video of Triumph Scrambler 400X?
Waiting for it.
As soon as triumph have press bikes available, hopefully Soon!
Awesome review. ❤
It's a great machine, mine has the standard seat, so way more comfortable on a longer journey than the bench. Nice bit of analysis-pity about the annoying numpty on the push bike; shame you didn't include him in the commentary, it would have given us all a good laugh. "Pedal off mate."
That’s good to know, unfortunately I was away from the camera and it wasn’t on record. Wish I got it on film 😂
Motorcycles are designed as a package and / or sum of their parts. Riding a motorcycle is a vibe. Specifications are mostly used as a sales tackle. IMHO 😮😮
lot of extras on that bike like the seat, mirrors and screen
Correct, unfortunately I didn’t have a list of extras so I wasn’t sure
How many miles/kilometers you think you could make, being really gentle and efficient with the throttle, with a full tank?
And what would be the distance autonomy being aggressive with the throttle?
I think that would be good question for some owners to answer 👍🏼
300km on my T120 at 60mph is about the limit for me🤷♂️🤷♂️
I live in the states and with a choice I would take the Guzzi even if the dealer network for them is very sparse. I agree with you that leather panniers would look better and I would give a couple hundred dollars for an aluminum front brake master cylinder that sits closer to the controls, not perched way up there on that ugly bracket.
What brand/model is your jacket? Cheers in advance 👍
It’s a Texpeed leather jacket, not sure on the model name but if you search it it’ll come up 👍🏻
@@MrDarcy-OlMan ok thanks 👍

I just wish it had the tank size of the T100.
I have always admired this machine, but question should I upgrade from my Royal Enfield Interceptor. Any thoughts?
It’s got more power and torque, and it’s build quality is top notch. Your call! Both bikes are great.
This bike is meant to be quite laid back etc, the 1200 version is alot quicker. I have the 1200 to review now!
Seems likes the panniers could benefit from a heritage makeover.
You can get leather Triumph pannier bags for the StreetTwin/SpeedTwin.
At 9:19 a perfect demonstration that loud pipes can't possibly 'save lives'. Nice review with quality camera work, stoned again?
Not sure what you mean tbh. The pipes are standard 🤔
All relative obviously but exhaust noise is never loud enough to be a 'safety' feature from an oncoming bike. @@MrDarcy-OlMan
@@domster200 i see what you mean, yes the sound doesn’t hit you until it’s almost on you
Does the headlamp screen make much difference - how high up your body does it deflect the wind? Thanks.
Not really tbh, it’s hardly noticeable
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thanks for replying.
The seat height is 790mm with that seat. 765mm is with stock seat
Unfortunately i didn’t realise it was an upgrade seat as I didn’t get a list of the upgrades
@@MrDarcy-OlMan those turning signals are also an option, speaking of options
