Freddie, just watched this video. The thing that occurred to me whilst watching it was that almost everyone in the crowd had either a bald head, grey hair, grey beard, big belly, or a combination of all these things.. (Like me) Years ago when I went to the NEC or Earls Court, you could hardly move and had to queue to get to the stands. There were thousands of younger people there. Not anymore it seems. Maybe this is why the British motorcycle industry is in such dire straits.. What is going to happen when all us oldies have gone.. It’s a sad situation. 😕
Very interesting insight! Licensing needs to be made far more streamlined. It’s far too expensive and complicated. In my eyes, this would transform the industry overnight
@ Unfortunately it does look that way. I think the better quality Chinese bike’s could help, but they would need a big company behind them to inspire confidence in buyers. CF Moto is a good start. Also as Freddie mentioned in his reply to my post, there needs to be a more streamlined licensing process..
Freddie, don’t kill yourself in the cold. Find yourself some heated gear (I’m sure you can get a manufacturer to sponsor you) Jacket liners and gloves and your cold rides will take on a world of difference.
Royal Enfield are producing some proper good looking machines and at realistic prices. Surely these models would appeal to the younger generation and get them into motorcycling. That Napoleon 500 Bobber is also a top looking machine and amazing price by the looks of it.
The trouble isn’t with motorcycles, the trouble is that all the necessities of life now cost so much that having a motorcycle as a hobby has become unfathomable for younger people - not much left after student loans, bills, rent, groceries, utilities, internet, etc
@@Ragd0ll1337 Agree the cost of living in the UK is sky high, outrageously and scandalously so. Sadly, all the signs are it will only get worse, especially with things like NetZero and the cost of that to the taxpayer. But £5700 to £7000 a bike these days, that's what we used to pay in the 90's and early-mid 2000's, ok for "superbikes" but not many really want that type of bike anymore anyway. I get it, life is expensive, that I know first hand, but a good bike can cover the neccessity gap as much as the hobby gap. rent, loans, always been a price we have to pay. The only way to lower rents is to lower demand, but thats another topic all together...
@Ragd0ll1337 so true. I haven't had a bike for 10 years. When I get the spare cash, it goes on house improvements or family holiday's. Most younger people use most of their pay packet on rent, food and video games.
I realised I totally missed it, and Ducati, and the new Honda 350… and Indian! Basically I missed 70% of it😆 I think I subconsciously knew what I wanted to see, and gravitated towards that
Thanks for the video Freddie. A tip if you're going to ride through winter in the UK invest in a heated jacket and heated gloves.Five years ago I spent £400 on a Keis Jacket and gloves connected to the bike's battery(all leads supplied)so no chance of a flat external battery. The jacket is worn over a base layer with my Oxford Mondial jacket over it,at 71years old my winter riding is now transformed,I never get cold on the bike anymore,200/250mile winter rides are in perfect comfort and my winter riding is much safer as concentration isn't diminished by cold with wasted energy on trying to prevent early onset hypothermia!
Definitely my two picks were the BSA Scrambler & Royal Enfield Bear at the show this year, was great to catch up Freddie, I’ll send you an invoice for the filming work! 😂 cheers Nick 👊
Well done Freddie, I chickened out of biking from Felixstowe!! Defo need heater gear, even Kimoto gillet only £60!! Battery bikes as you say city only, and needs to be much much lower price point… keep up great vids? Cheers Martin
Great video Freddie. Let’s be honest though the answer to why younger people arn’t interested in bikes is in this video. All the faff with the riding gear and riding in freezing conditions until your hands drop off. No wonder they’d rather be on the bus or uber I rode back from the NEC in November 2002 when i was 18 on a brand new cagiva mito 125. My hands were so cold i couldn’t pull the clutch in and had to stall when stopping at the lights. Never again. Since then I always take my bike off the road from Nov - Apr.
Glad you made it back in one piece Freddie. And on a green bike. You never have to worry about a Harley in the cold. They love it. That cold air brings them to life. Freddie, all you need to wear to ride in the cold is army surplus poly propylene long John’s, a pair of carhart insulated bib overalls, and a good leather jacket. And if that don’t work, carry a little flask of bourbon with ya. After awhile the cold won’t matter 🇺🇸👍🥃😝
Hope you have thawed out Freddie? Enjoyed watching you sit on and review all the bikes I was interested in when I was there! As always love to you and the ever lovely Monika.
Freddie, myself and some colleagues went to the show and we had the exact same conversation about the RE, BSA and MotoGB. All stunning and amazing bikes for quality and price. I hope BSA have a good year, they have produced some beautiful, true to era bikes. I think my colleague will go for the RE Bear due to RE being a little more settled in the market and we all agreed it is right on the mark, would love to see you review these bikes soon.
After years of winter commuting… heated gloves are the only way to keep your hands warm, doesn’t matter how thick or how many pairs of gloves you wear they’ll always get painfully cold in the winter. You can get away without a heated jacket but not gloves in my experience. RST paragons are great pair of heated gloves with the battery in the cuff of the glove so no need to wire into the bike. Absolute game changer.
I started to feel so very cold watching this video and I am sitting in my front room with a coffee 😮, excellent 👌 really enjoyed your coverage of the bike show , the Chinese bikes here to stay and like you said look so very, very good.
Thanks Freddie and greetings from Canada! Love the new Royal Enfields. The Bear and 650 classic in the colours you’ve shown are beautifully crafted machines! Loved the Lambretta as well. 👍
I agree with you, the MotoGB stand was the most interesting. They are definitely on the up.. loved the Honda 350 too (but not as much as my Classic 350!). Goldwing DCT, mmm.. The Ducatis and MVs are dream bikes but way out of my price range. I had a wet, cold and snowy ride home on the Monday so sympathise with you there at the end. Next up will be the Classic Show at Stafford in April, you should try and get there - it will be good for your education 😊
Great video, Made me chuckle near the end. For me, Just my hands get cold, I have a good pair of winter gloves, and use washing up gloves cottoned lined as under liners.
Some nice bikes for 2025, mostly if not all small capacity bikes 🤔 apart from Can-Am who have lost their mind. The Chinese have definitely shown they are a force to be reckoned with in the biking world now I think, some stunning bikes. Thanks for a walk round with yourself.
I’m not sure if it’s my unconscious bias towards showing smaller cc bikes, but I think the mid-sized sector looks very strong💪🏼 Unfortunately I can’t see Can Am working- it’ll be another LiveWire, I’m afraid. The Chinese have come on so far (admittedly I haven’t ridden them, so I’m assuming they’ll be decent!)
Motorcycle Live crowd looks like a 'world's worst dressed man' competition, except of of course for Freddie, as stylish as always! Boy, have we bikers become a bunch of old codgers, not a Barry Sheene amongst us. And don't get me started on the bikes themselves. I'll stay happily stuck in the late 20th Century.
I think your correct about the Chinese bike takeover but it had to happen bike prices was getting out of hand I paid £5200 for a brand new Yamaha Fz600 Fazer in 2002 ..So to see Royal Enfield and BSA offering really competitive bikes we wish them a good future
nec is so small went to iecma first time on a plane for 30 years bike show massive was there for three days and only seen half Milan show 600,000 visitors bikes not dead in Europe family day out then went to watch inter play Napoli what a experience all for the love of bikes
I went with a friend this year and was amazed to see that not only were the stands for KTM and CF Moto immediately adjacent to each other, but guys in KTM polo shirts were showing people around the CF Moto bikes. Less than a week later KTM have announced they have gone into a temporary period of ‘self-administration’. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
Great video, Just got to say though... The can am is Dross.... 115 Kms in only ideal conditions so in reality only 75 or so.... Electric is a scam.... A pure scam.
Love your vids fred The classic 650 needs more colour options and the pillion seat looks more of an after thought compared to the 350 and the front fender could have been better. When launched please review the Classic 650 ASAP
Small little thing in your description: it's written "Pan Am" while it's "Can Am". But thanks for introducing this Classic 650 to us. This will sell like hot cakes. They are decking Moto Guzzi on his heritage playground. MG is putting all his development money on dad ADV bikes at the moment and I don't think it's a smart move. While HD, Triumph and such are also leaving the heritage market, there's so much space to get a niche there right now. It's curious to see RE's the only one to realize this.
That BSA looked good, but can't wait for a proper Endfield review. Also liked the Chinese bikes, however, there is a quality concern there, they look good, but will they still be good mechanically after 50000 km. That's what mostly sets the Japanese bikes apart, like Honda, tough and proven quality in the long run.
I will never agree with you about H-D so won’t go there. Moving on to the Biker B&B , I did their Iberian scramble last year and had a such a blast I booked one of their Scotish events ( but family illness stopped me doing that one ) . I can recommend the biker B&B events as well organised with quality accommodation.
I did the exact same thing a number of years ago now with the legendary motorcycle adventurist Ted Simon. It still pains me to reminisce about that missed opportunity.
Good looking motorcycles, I hope you can test drive the royal enfield bear 650 and tell the difference between the interceptor and how the difference in height is 👍
Was my takeaway from the show exactly. Huge interest in the MotoGB stand with those very inexpensive bikes. Didn’t think it was a good show this year - the musicians were good

I agree but the alternative is a ev moped, which is just a big no no to so many. You see the bike market has it was ended like 20 years ago what it is now just reminiscence of the yester years bikes. The feel to control a machine has been take away. And about the classical bikes i respect that some are still trying and hopefully it works out. Because almost every car brands if you see are getting into ev. Not long before your choice is ev only.
Those who cry "no China for me" are likely too young to remember Japanese OEMs of the past. Those who don't know history are bound to repeat it until, he's the last 1 barking at the moon....
Ahhhh this is fascinating! Thank you for sharing this insight- there isn’t a huge amount of insight on quality here in the UK, yet, so this is very helpful🙌🏻
As others have alluded too, the most important trend I see on display at this show appears to be all the old white dudes. 😅 We gotta get some young people in there, or there won't be anyone to ride the bikes us old guys already have, let alone buy new ones. I honestly wonder if manufacturer's are just planning to ride the demographics to their logical conclusion and then close up shop. That certainly seems to be the case with dealers. How much longer can they keep selling 25k dollar bikes to men in their 60s who have been riding since the 1970s?
Argh. Freddie the Chinese bikes are subsidised by the Chinese Government, and at a level that contravenes World Trade Rules. Eventually there will be no uk manufacturing. At least BSA & Enfield invest in UK R&D and related engineering. The Chinese do not. At least highlight this on your channel.
Looks like Harley showing off more custom and vintage bikes than actual current/new bikes. And of course they all want to make them look vintage, exactly what Harley is not doing at all 🤌🤦♀. Even they know their bikes looks better when they look old school like an original Harley 🤫

Motorcycling - at least as we know it - is dying.
Youngsters have neither the interest nor the money to spend on motorbikes; fact.
@ I agree with you. When I passed my test, that was it. You could then ride whatever bike you wanted, or could afford.. 🫤

The 2025 season is looking good with so many bikes hopefully realising on next year 😮 amazing

Great business model by Can Am. 😅
Unfortunally, most bikes take longer to get to Brazil. i'm waiting for the new models of the classic 350 to arrive to get one
Back wheel looks way too small on the classic 650
Interesting- I didn’t consider this
It's not small I guess, it just gets overshadowed by the unusually large fender..
That will be Can Am going into administration next year than! Who’s spending 15k on an electric bike.. crazy sales strategy

Take the Rubicon next year. It’s just not worth taking the bike this time of the year.
The low profile sport bike tires just don’t look right on the Classic 650. Swap the wheels out for some off a Goan 350, and it would be beautiful.
Did Hardly Ableson mention their DEI error... 😂

Looks like Harley showing off more custom and vintage bikes than actual current/new bikes. And of course they all want to make them look vintage, exactly what Harley is not doing at all 🤌🤦♀. Even they know their bikes looks better when they look old school like an original Harley 🤫
Hopefully HD isn't ready to show their 2025 line-up yet, but it's very concerning...their highlights are custom jobs?!?!
@@aromaticsnail For real, not to mention that any competent builder could do what they do out of their garage at half the cost.
