Gee, who ever would have guessed that a battery-powered motorcycle that would only go 70 miles before needing a charge and is ugly as sin wouldn't sell??? Well, everyone but the tennis shoe CEO who runs Harley-Davidson. The rest of these bikes are either the non-Harley models that don't have a traditional V-Twin engine or are old bikes that are long gone. Pointless video.
I bought a 2023 Harley Tri-Glide in 2023. The quality control was terrible. Even the reverse motor went on the second use. I have been riding for 54 years. This was my first and last Harley.
Entry level e-motorcycle buyers in urban areas will opt for e-bicycles or scooters. Slower, but in downtown NYC far more nimble and easier to park. And the bicycle can be stowed off-street.
The most glaring irony is the failure of Harley's brass to grasp the simple fact that the distinctive air/oil-cooled engine, and its distinctive exhaust note, along with the vibrating engine, and classic looks, is what makes Harleys what they are. Any attempt therefore to change these traits is bound to produce bikes that few, if any will consider buying. The ungainly, silent Livewire with the $millions of Harley’s meager research and development funds spent on its creation is an abomination, for all intents, and purposes.
Livewire is a good bike but agree it doesn't fit into HD’s traits. HD shouldn't change a thing except for the dealership's extravagant buildings. It looks like waste of money spent on fancy buildings to me. I get intimidated with 3 story tall HD stores here in Houston. I feel like walking inside of a bank, not a bike dealership.
So instead of making a bunch of different bikes that didnt sell . Let the Japanese handle that end of market . They could of stuck with original sportster 883 and 1200 for entry level and regular sport and touring big twins . All that in-between stuff wasnt the answer as i dont see any on the road in summer in wisconsin. Ill look again for those odd balls once spring hits.
I think Harley tries things/innovations, gaps in the motorcycle-market with different models and i can only appreciate those bold moves. It's neccesary to keep the company alive in the end. Only thing is that they produce and sell the bikes for way to much money for value in comparison to other brands. That's something they should change, otherwise i don't think they can survive in the end. Maybe they should downsize worldwide with all those 'glasshouse' dealerships which are to expensive for simple maintenance. Most i do myself, or at a simple Harley-maintenance place with lower cost (not a glasshouse dealership) if i want some garanty on maintenance things, like engine changes or electrical.
The problem is that Harley is under spec and more expensive than competitors. The live wire would been nice if it was not 9k over it competitors. The 500 and 750 would have been nice for younger riders if it were not for the under whelming power compared to Honda and Yamaha and Indian. V rod was way ahead of its time and turned like a cargo ship.
I didn't get past the Livewire before my comment, so it pertains only to that bike. I rode two of them, the pre-production and then the production model. The pre-production bike is the only electric bike ever rode, and a friend had to convince me to sign up for the demo. I didn't expect to like it, but I did. I learned that Harley recognized that these bikes would be silent, and that was a major factor to product a longitudinal motor. They wanted the gear noise. I enjoyed riding it, but as it was an escorted ride, I wasn't free to really explore. But you have to give credit to Harley, the only "legacy" manufacturer to offer an electric motorcycle. After all the non-Harley fan-boys yell about Harley producing antiques and having no engineering ability, they came out with a viable electric motorcycle. And remember, this is new technology. History shows that new technology takes time to mature. Electric cars didn't start with Tesla, and even Tesla took time to bring the price down to a "reasonable" level. So while electric motorcycles are not for me, I don't think badly about Harley's bold effort.
I love mine , put 10k miles on it and don’t plan on buying another cruiser unless they make a Liquid cooled bagger. Mine has Reinhardt pipes and the topless mod and is just over 5k rpms at 80
Unless you live in a city, this bike is worthless. I live in Alaska, and I couldn't even get to town with this bike. Harley needs to go back to Sportsters, Dyna's, V Rod's, and bikes that made Harleys real bikes! Maybe Harley needs more videos like this and ask us older, riders what we want. Then build what we tell them. Yes it might take a couple years but that would save money in the end. Also, Harley could reuse parts and pieces from years past they already have molds for. Just make it look good. I have a 1984 FXRT. If I take out the EVO and drop a M-8 in it just think.. Lastly, have dealers work on older bike. This ten years and your out attitude doesn't work.
All but one of the Harley,s featured are not sellable. The Switchback was a bike I even considered before purchasing my Road King. At the time I bought a low mileage one owner Road King for less money than guys were asking for a Dyna Switchback. Like the video stated it was a great versatile entry level into the touring market. It would be a great bike for an older rider as well who wants to downsize from a 900 pound touring model.
You forgot one. The Nightster, or as I call it the bike from hell. Great engine and performance, but its electronics let me stranded more than once. The final straw was when the fuel pump imploded while riding it to work. I got rid of it and I purchased a Street Bob.
Wow. weird, you must have had a 'blue-monday" one as i've had one which was awesome. I turned it to a forty-eight because at that time i hadn't have the money to buy that one, but enough to build it step-for-step to a forty-eight. As you said, great engine. Had no problems with electronics whatsoever. Have a good one! Keep the rubber down.
Harley doesn't pay ANY attention to customer feedback or anything a biker has to say and its not working for them. So a long drawn out demise is self inflicted.
It's January 2025 and Harley has announced it will be making a Street Glide Ultra this year with the new 117 engine and the new cooling system the 117 has. I'm glad to hear they are updating the Steet Glide Ultra and making it available. It's not the bike I'm waiting on though. I waiting for an updated Road Glide Limited. I thought sure they would make one in 2024 but they kept their old design and engine, if you wanted the new 117 engine and cooling system you had to buy a Road Glide and build it into a Limited and even then you would not have the lower leg farings. It looks like 2025 will be a bust for me just like last year. I'm still waiting Harley Davidson as are others I'm willing to bet.
I'm starting to think Harley-Davidson is actually Cartel funded... How could a company make garbage year after year and Still stay in business???...😆😆😆
I was able to install a new six speed transmission to replace the original five speed. In addition, H-Ds hydraulic tappets eliminate valve adjustments. You can't have hypoid gear oil going into hydraulic tappets. You can't change transmissions or even just add another gear or even reverse like you can on a Harley if you have an all-on-one type system. Also, worn clutch material stays in the primary chain case. These are all good reasons why Harleys are are the way they are.
The FXDR is like hens teeth here in Nz and expensive, the one I'd want for a muscle ride, vrod is called the P rod cause maori gang members prefer it ,the switch back is the convertable and annold ladies bike lol
You're rigth, the Pan American is a New Kids in Town, but just for the name Harley-Davidson, its worth a try, although it's Price Pph 1.2 m in the Philippines.
Why on earth would you purchase a 25,000.00 motorcycle that you have to tear down and spend another 10,000.00 to make it run kinda like a motorcycle?my motorcycle came from the factory with around 200 HP and my "bagger", the fjr has close to 150 and will most likely run forever and tour the world in comfort if I decide to.for a fraction of the price. SMH ride with pride 😆😂 ROTFLMAO.
As opposed to what, royal Enfields hymalayan? Africa twin,gs 1200, super tenere will be around while the paramedican is in the shop getting another reflash and update to try and make it run correctly.
it shouldn't be that complicated really , get a few designs together and then ask people what they like , it's called market research , as for marketing , one of the first things is to correctly identify your demographic for any given product , a Harley single ? a parallel twin maybe , traditional customers won't come at that ,but new ones , maybe , stick with the large capacity 60deg vtwin and that's the demographic you are aiming for, old dying school ! of all the bikes shown , that godawful radiator is a putoff , as is the awkward and really fussy styling , the only one that appealed to me was number 1 , the putoff on that was the front wheel , single disc and oddly styled , maybe if they get rid of the DEI stylists they may get somewhere

I don't believe 70 off any bike ever. They can keep electric bikes. Harley riders don't want one. EVER

The New generation of riders aren’t buying electric bikes let alone a Harley. They’re buying 350-650CC Metrics.
I bought a 2023 Harley Tri-Glide in 2023. The quality control was terrible. Even the reverse motor went on the second use. I have been riding for 54 years. This was my first and last Harley.
If you must ride a mobility scooter, there are better choices at half the money.
It ain’t pound feet it’s foot pound

100%👍

@@bruceyung70 I couldn’t agree more.
Exactly, those are the reasons I buy Harley. I don’t want an electric motorcycle PERIOD.
Apparently NOBODY wants the LiveWire... including me. It looks really ungainly to me. Not a good-looking bike at all, and at all not practical.

I've still got my 07 vrod best engine to come out of harley davidson thank you porshe

I tried a Vrod to my dismay. 5k rpm @70 mph didn`t cut it. The vast majority of them don`t get riden. The ones being sold have few miles on them.
The V-Rod has a terrible rider triangle. It's just uncomfortable. No bueno.

maybe put the revo in a dyna or old skool fxr-like frame...i would do that...

Bet your a blue no matter who guy too
The live wire was & is a bust. $$ not well invested or spent. Cost the stock owners millions
I thought the Switchback was a great idea. Just needed some tweaks.
I'll stick with my old harley. These new bikes made in Taiwan are being reported as junk😢
Harley is for the rainbow crowd now.
Future prices with yesterdays technology.
Harley doesn't pay ANY attention to customer feedback or anything a biker has to say and its not working for them. So a long drawn out demise is self inflicted.
Live wire , Live Lemon …. No true Harley enthusiast will ever buy one
Harley-Davidson lost its Way decades ago... 'Nuff said!!!...🤔🤔🤔
Buy a Harley when I have a Goldwing? I don’t think so.
Other than the stiff suspension luv my 2013 Switchback

JD definitely needs to get rid of that chain primary and 3 hole oil fill.

Just put a playing card in the spokes like we did our bicycle when we were kids 🤣😀
