    I have some Odysseys and absolutely love them. I was dismayed when they were discontinued, but I just saw these and was hopeful that they'd be a good substitute for the sizes that I never got in the Odysseys. Thanks to your review, I now know that these are not the hook for me. The weight of the Odysseys doesn't bother me, but I wouldn't want to go heavier. What clinched my "no" was the finish on these getting blech-y so quickly. I want a hook that doesn't need to be babied. Thank you for the thorough review!

      The Odyssey were my favorite. Glad I have a set; but many have come loose. I do think the Streamline Metal are a decent substitute; and because they are so well-balanced, I got used to the bit of extra weight very quickly. Although, I’m not thrilled about how easily they scratch. You could probably hear them clanking, on camera, when barely touching the others. Also, because of the weight, they roll easily, and have to be careful to not slide right off your table. I do love how well they function as a hook; but I’m definitely not into babying them either. Time will tell how well they wear. Would’ve been nice, had they been able to figure out a way to coat the handle somehow. Not only to protect them; but to give a bit more grip when handling, and setting them down.

      Only just come across this review, but am so glad I did! Thank you for your comprehensive review with its helpful comments. I was tempted to buy a couple from the Furls website because they look so nice (!) but your comments have helped me realise they're not for me. Apart from the babying needed to look after them, they are too long for my small hands and I suspect over time would not be comfortable to use 😢
      Do keep up the great work! 🎉

      Thank you for watching!! I also like their beautiful Streamline Swirls Resin hooks; but nothing like metal. It’s more universal, as the hook glides nicely through all yarn. (Can be a bit slippery with silk, bamboo, viscose, etc.). Still, comes down to personal preference. 💕

    Super review. I just purchased one of these. I am. Complete beginner… literally just learning to ‘chain on’. I enjoy using fountain pens and know that I grip my pens tight and toward the nib. I had to buy really wide pens to release my grip and prevent cramping. I’m so excited to be learning crochet with a Furls Streamline hook 🙌

      Hi! Congratulations on your first Furls hook! I hope you’ll love it! I’m so excited to know you’re new to crochet! 🎉I used to love fountain pens, didn’t know they’re still around. Great hearing about yours! Glad you found a way to still use them and prevent cramping. 💗

    Hi Helene, the new Furls Hooks are very pretty you make everything you crochet with them look so easy. I only have one Furls, a wooden one. I haven't used it much, it's a smaller hook, I feel more comfortable using a larger hook. You did a very thorough review, it's good to know the ins and outs of both kinds of the hooks. Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!

    • @cabinfevercrochet
      @cabinfevercrochet  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Cheryl! Crocheting with them is easy for me; but it does take getting used to the change, at first. I prefer the larger hooks also. I saw a couple other in the market place I'd like to test out in the near future, and will review those too. I have a "thing" for tools, and a good excuse to get my fix! 😅 I hope you're feeling a lot better. Happy New Year to you and your family, too! 💗💗💗

    Thanks for your demonstration, very informative. My size 4.00 mm Odyssey Hook is a bit larger then the 4.00 mm all metal Streamline that is just new on the market. Have others felt the same when comparing the 2 hooks? Thanks for your responses.

    • @cabinfevercrochet
      @cabinfevercrochet  4 месяца назад

      Hi. So glad you found it helpful. Yes, I noticed that also; so I did a swatch with both hooks, and oddly enough, my stitches came out the same. Although, not sure how much of a difference it would make over an entire pattern. I have noticed with other companies that the same sizes can vary some, in different styles of hooks. I’ve been using the new metal streamline a lot since this review, and still like them very much. I do wish the throat was a little deeper, like the Odyssey, to hold the yarn a little better. Especially with more slippery types of fiber; but I find that can be the nature of metal hooks in general. 💗

    Nice, informative review for these hooks! As always, you cover all bases in your reviews and I thank you for that. Looks like they are great for knife-hold crocheters. I use a pencil hold and, having tried the Ommi ergonomic hooks, I know I would find it difficult to use the Furls, although I did want to buy them when I first saw them used by other crocheters. They're pretty and I like the streamlined style. Glad they work so well for you! 😊

    • @Nancy-SF
      @Nancy-SF 7 месяцев назад +2

      I agree with your observation about the knife grip and pencil grip. I also use a pencil grip and I just cannot use the Furls hooks. I received two as a gift, but I can't change over to a knife grip at this point! They are lovely but I will stay with my Clover hooks!

    • @kayellwy
      @kayellwy 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Nancy-SF Yep. I use my Clovers for most things. I did buy some Ommi ergonomic hooks (look like Furls knock-offs) because the Furls I wanted to buy to try were not available. I have used them for some small projects, but I can't get up any speed and my hand hurts a bit.

    • @cabinfevercrochet
      @cabinfevercrochet  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Karen, and thank you! Glad you liked my review! Your take on the pencil grip is very helpful, and interesting. It's always better hearing from those who use the pencil grip, and have tried Furls for themselves. One thing I do miss at times, is having a thumb rest. Maybe one day Furls will design hooks with that, and better suited for any grip style. 😃

    • @kayellwy
      @kayellwy 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@cabinfevercrochet A thumb rest would definitely help us pencil-grip crocheters. I think that's why my hand hurts when I try to use a Furls-design hook using a pencil grip. If I switch to a knife grip, I end up using more wrist motion for stitches than I do with a pencil grip, which, in turn, causes wrist and hand pain. I believe a thumb rest would stabilize my grip. Maybe. I do think it's a good idea, but do you really think Furls will change their ergonomic design to do that?

    • @cabinfevercrochet
      @cabinfevercrochet  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@kayellwy Wow! Again, so interesting; because I have the same issue, when trying to use the pencil grip! Instant sress on my wrist joint, causing a lot of strain, pain, and hand fatigue. Besides the lake of coordination! Using the knife grip since age 13, my brain cannot get a "grip" on it, ha-ha! Furls is so innovative, I'm hoping they can figure out how to combine the best of both!

    I have always used Clover Amours but really want to try these- especially for blanket yarn. I’m noticing that with the Furls the letter/mm size is different than other brands. Clover size L is an 8 and Furl size 8 is an M. Is it best to just go with the mm size? I’ve never used another brand so just not sure how much difference there would be! Thank you!

    • @cabinfevercrochet
      @cabinfevercrochet  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi. I've noticed brands can differ some in their hook sizing. I would go with the mm size, which to me, is going to be closest to what you want. Even so, mm size can still vary some between companies, and even within the same brand, compared to other hook styles they may carry. Hope that helps!

      @@ginasumner832 I hope you'll love them! I do find using new hooks that are different from what you're used to, can take a little adjusting. There's a difference in weight and balance. One other thing about the hooks is the head is a little smaller than average. Depending on the yarn you’re using, and how you hold the hook, it may or may not hang onto the yarn as well as other styles. It’s not an exact Odyssey replacement; but I still like the new Sreamline Metal very much.
