I have carpal tunnel syndrome. I just had the release surgery 4 weeks ago. I discovered furls hooks about a year ago and it changed everything for me. I had so much pain holding a Susan Bates or even the Clover hook you showed in your video that 10 minutes of crochet was about all I could handle. I've been crocheting for almost 50 years so thos was heartbreaking to me. Then I founf Furls. I resisted because I thought they were too expensive. But once I tried my first one and found I could crochet for hours without pain, I was hooked! Lol. I now own several styles of Furls in every size, with the classic streamline as my favorite because of the extreme light weight. They fit perfectly in my hand. I fell in love with them so much I now am an Authorized Retailer for Furls hooks in my online yarn shop. They gave me back the ability to crochet again.
Even in my surgery recovery I am working on your Bronwyn shawl...slowly, but I'm doing it. 😉💜

I am 84 years old. I started crocheting when I was about 10 years old. I have only used steel crochet hooks. The ones with, what I call fat handles, I do not like at all! The hooks I use all have English 00 up to14 sizes as well metric sizes stamped on them. I have multiple of all but size 5 (which are hard to find) because I was given them by my mother and her mother. I have all of their old patterns, mostly doilies some calling for size 5,. I also have lots of other patterns for knitting which I also do thanks to my grandmother who taught me to knit when I was pregnant with my oldest child. For me, crocheting and knitting are relaxing and soothing and help relieve stress. I have all sizes of aluminum hooks and needles as well as 2 very old wooden crochet hooks. I just found your videos last night. Thank you very much for all the information I am learning from them. Althea

Shalom, Last week I got one hook and immediately sat down to crochet with it. It feels great and since it's very comfortabe the work progressed faster than usual. After four hours of crocheting I had to stop for a minute and it fell of my hand to the floor - and broke. Apparently the neck is very thin, delicate and sensetive; watch out! I'm left heart broken! So ladies if you have artheritis or are very careful for not getting it, these hooks are for you. Have a wonderful crocheting year. Tamar Israeli, Jerusalem

In my immediate circle of friends and family I have NOT ONE knitter or crocheter! My nearest family member that is as obsessed as I am lives in North Carolina, and I live in NY. My own daughters are not interested either. (😫) So I am SO happy to watch my brothers and sisters on RUclips that get as delirious as I do about beautiful hooks! I understood completely about your pride in not opening those boxes until you did it in front of us, and believe me, your restraint was appreciated! We got to enjoy it together for the first time! I'm so glad I subscribed, as you are interesting, watchable, and informative. Keep it up! 💞

Ok so I learned to crochet when I was 8. I’m 57 now. I have used several different hooks over the years but never really gave it much thought. Now I’m wondering why not?! I mean I started off holding my hook underhanded like a pencil I changed at some point to over handed and didn’t stop to think why. Well after watching your video I think it’s because I purchased a set of the clover hooks and I automatically adjusted my hold to the hook instead of finding a hook that better matched my hold. And you have brought my attention to hook detail to a new level with those “cheeks”! I am now on the hunt for my perfect hooks. As I get older this will be even more important I think so thank you for sharing. I feel a little silly for having taken so long to make this discovery.

Love my streamline hooks. I've had a whole set for over a year and don't use any of my other hooks now. For those that think they are too expensive, think of it as a meal out. Buy a hook instead of going out to dinner and your hands will be sooooooo happy. You're worth it.

Thank you! Thank you! For the review and weighing the Furls hooks. Most people have problems with there hands, with me, its the upper arm. I was using a heavy egonomic 6.5mm Boye hook and my upper and hurt since. You weighting the hooks, helps me realize that the Wooden Streamlines are the way to go. I am using a 5.5mm right now, and what a difference it is. Thanks again!!!!

I LOVE this video. I’ve been hunting for Furls streamline swirl reviews because I’m kind of leaning towards ordering one. I’m an avid crocheted, I’m at it a minimum of 8 hours a day. I have issues with my right hand, and regular hooks just AREN'T cutting it for me, and I’ve had quite a few crochet related injuries lately because the hooks I have are just so small. I also have larger hands, so this was super helpful. Thank you for this review! I’m definitely sold, totally ordering one ASAP. Also you’re adorable and I definitely immediately subscribed. Happy hooking!!

OMG I ordered my first Furls 2 years ago and felt too weird so I put it away. Since the quarantine I have been crocheting away. I have the purple nickel oddssey and got the red with quarantine special. I have finally used my hooks, let me tell you, my rheumatoid arthritis is minimal pain. Oh yeah, the wool squeak. I get that with my Furls Candyshop hooks. I usually take it as a sign to loosen up because I personally crochet too tight, but the squeak isn't really tension related, just yarn motion over the surface. Yeah.

I was having trouble with pain in my hand. I looked into all kinds of hooks and tried most of the ones out there including Furls. I bought mine on sale and loved the way it looked but I almost sent it back when I found it awkward to crochet with. My cousin encouraged me to make a few small projects with it before giving up. I’m glad she did because I had to change my way of crocheting to use the furls but I noticed that the pain in my hand was not bothering me as much. I’m using it more now and really like it. Bonus, it looks amazing in my collection and makes me feel like I’ve gone up a notch in my crochet status. 😆

Furls cam up in my searches and because of your review I ordered three of different materials; One wood, one metal for Ferrell, and in the plastic (sorry if that’s not the correct term). Here’s hoping, happy crocheting.

I only have one Furls hook but I’m in love with it! It’s a resin one from their zodiac collection. I really love the feel of it compared to some of my other hooks. Need to definitely get more because I got the one I have for a special project and it’s not in a size that I use very often. Never have crocheted with a wood hook, but would also love to give it a try. Definitely agree with you that pretty tools just make the crochet experience more enjoyable!

I have had an on-going love/not love relationship with Furls hooks for years now. I have soooo many... metal tip, wood and resin. I will say that I love how doggone SMOOTHE they are. I have never ever had an issue with them slowing me down due to yarn catching or not moving smoothly over them (metal/wood/resin). Of the three materials, my favorite are the resin ones and I still love them. Unfortunately, the grip area is SO BIG that after a few hours of crocheting, it hurts my hand. I grip like a "knife" grip (not "pencil" grip style) and they are comfy for awhile, but then the bulkiness just gets to me. Soooo, when I discovered Prym hooks, they became my "all day/every day" hook because they have the long shaft like Furls, but a smaller grip (and they are in-line, which I've also come to prefer). Furls **ARE** great hooks tho, and the craftmanship alone makes them worth their pricetag (IMO).

Thank you so much for this! This is exactly the video I was looking for. I love to crochet and when I saw these hooks online about a month ago, my heart skipped a beat. So, I am obsessed in trying to decide which set I want. The swirls look so amazing but the size printing makes a big difference for me. The wood is my first choice, so mostly wood and maybe get a swirl or two for variety.

I have been looking at the Furls website for a few months, and I became mesmerized by their product pictures and all the reviews I read for their hooks, so I finally bought one Streamline Swirl Cafe hook. It was all I could think about for an entire week and when I finally received it I was very disappointed. It was not glossy or polished like their pictures show and it had sanding marks all over the hook body. The swirling was fine but the brown and white had no translucence or depth like their website shows. It was solid brown and solid white resin, and did not look like coffee like their promotion video shows(and yes I know each one is handmade, I enjoy that aspect, but I am talking about the resin itself). If you are used to using an aluminum hook with a thumb indention, you will not enjoy Furls hooks. I wanted so badly to love this hook, and I will be the first to tell you that the pictures on their website are gorgeous, but it's not what you get in the box. I had built up so much anticipation and excitement and was extremely disappointed. I can't even use my hook, it's very large, uncomfortable to use and actually hurt my hand more than my Susan Bates hooks and slowed me down. The lost thumb indention is a mistake. My advice: if you can't help yourself and you fall in love with how beautiful Furls hooks look, ONLY BUY ONE. This way, you can try it for yourself before spending hundreds of dollars. And just an FYI, they only show positive reviews on their website, that's why you never hear anything negative about their hooks. Look for yourself if you don't believe me.

I am a small hook and yarn lover. 3 mm is my favorite. Furls don't carry them, so ordered a 3.25mm. I hook both ways, knife and pencil grip. Couldn't do it with Furls, the big round part was constantly in the way. And the Odessy is so heavy! I had cramps in my hand. I tried it but was diappointed it didn't work for me.

I love your reviews, Toni! I have recently drunk the Furls Kool-aid and purchased several hooks. I really love them all! I have the swirls all in different colors. They are excellent for my arthritis. My hands do not get tired and achy with them. I sadly broke one of them, though, when I was working on an amigurumi hippo so the stitches were tight. I must have applied a little to much torque because the throat snapped. So beware that they can be delicate in that area. I know next time to use a metal hook when doing amigurumi. I totally agree with you that they are aesthetically pleasing and that makes a difference when you are crocheting. You are trying to make beautiful things so you should be using beautiful tools! Thank you for being such a wonderful educator!!🧶💐

even though I am a relative beginner crocheter I fell in love with Furls before I even tried one. ...the colors, they just looked so beautiful. I have the original Stream line wood, 2 of the stream line resin, and 4 of the Candy Shop style. I have tried all of them and like them all. My hands and wrists don't hurt when using any of them. They are my go to hooks, and I intend to get more of the Streamline resin hooks.

I’m looking forward to purchasing my first furls. Have to wait awhile because I just got my Denise Tunisian and knitting needles. I love the beautiful colors so I plan to get each size in a different bright and bold color.

I agree. The sound of the yarn sliding on the hook is relaxing. ASMR😏. Just as long as it's not 1970's squeaky acrylic. 😖😂
I have never heard of Furls. I'm intrigued. I do like a thing grips on my hooks, though. But I'd like to test drive one of those cookies and cream.👍

I always have wanted to try Furls but I can’t afford them. I am on a very low income and just not able to budget them in after bills.
I love crocheting and I love watching your videos. God Bless and happy crocheting

I have a set of clover crochet hooks with interchangeable cords that I like. I'm mostly like to knit but have made 3 of the baby gingham from your tutorial. I made the blanket twin bed size so the cords came in handy.

I would like (wish) for Furls to make a line of shorter hooks, like the length of the Clover Soft-touch. Also put an indentation for the thumb to rest would be super! Right now I'm loving the Oddessey line. I order 2 of the streamline swirl and will see them in a few days.

Loved this review (which I watched right after your yarns review, that was fantastic)...I truly got an education in several areas of assessing hooks--thank you. And thank you for opening them for the first time on camera--your reaction was so cute! Especially with the one that has a little bit of cookie on the hook part--you got a giggle out of me...thank you for making this video and for the entertaining way you presented the product :+) Excellent!

I’m a new crocheter and really LOVE Furls Odyssey. I don’t mind the weight as it seems to counter balance. I’ve made a Mosaic crochet Afghan from Lion’s Brand wool ease and enjoyed how the hook moved through the yarn. My only complaint is they don’t ever seem to be in stock! So I might try these. Will look forward to more of your videos.

Loved your review, Teri, even though it's a few years old now & the Cookies & Cream is no longer available (and it wasn't my style anyway).
I was looking for ergonomic hooks several years ago when I found mention on Reddit, I think, of Furls & had to check them out. I have a lot of problems with arthritis & wanted to keep crocheting & knitting but the pain was making it so difficult.
The wooden Streamlines are really nice for getting to know Furls without breaking the bank. I was lucky to get some of the last of some limited editions, paudauk & peppermint swirl. I typically only get one hook of each kind so I can get lots of different kinds but just have one set. I didn't get the Cruella, I just have all the sizes I need (I wish they'd go down below 4mm in more Streamlines). I do have the new Purpleheart in 3.75mm. I have only a few resins because I don't prefer them. I have Andromeda, Moon, Pisces & Taurus in 4 - 5.5mm. My big set are my nickel-plated Odysseys because I prefer to work with metal hooks, they glide through all yarns so nicely for me. I didn't get the largest 2 sizes because I have another ergonomic set in bulky sizes, but I have from B 2.25mm through P 10mm, each a different color. The only color I didn't get that I really wanted before they stopped making Odyssey was Emerald Green - but I was also hoping they were going to bring back the gold-plated, I just missed those when I started collecting my Odysseys. I would've gotten my 9mm in Emerald instead of Mint. I only need one set of each kind & size, so every time they came out with a color I loved more than the one I had, I'd get the new one, then sell the old one for a little less than retail on ebay so someone who wanted to try Furls but couldn't afford a $40 hook could perhaps afford $25 for the same hook. Furls wasn't losing money because I bought 2 from them, and I was able to hopefully get them a new customer. I was very sad to see the Odyssey go, but I do have all the sizes I need. BTW I bought the Moon sight-unseen! They had a pre-sale reduction if people were willing to buy without seeing them but they showed a picture it was based on so I was confident I was going to love it.
I find that the wood hooks can be difficult to pull out of a stitch, the hook edges are sharp, and I use a lot of natural fibers, so I prefer the resin or metal.
All in all, though, the Furls hooks have allowed me to do more projects & for a longer time. I've given many Furls hooks as gifts to friends who crochet. Older friends actually don't like them, they just aren't used to the ergonomics, but people around my age (50s) & younger love them.
Before they discontinued their knitting needles, I also got a few of those! However, I really prefer knitting on aluminum, even in the round, but the Furls needles are gorgeous. I wish I'd started Tunisian crochet before they discontinued those hooks, but it's okay. I don't do a lot of it anyway.
In my opinion, the ergonomics of the Furls hooks makes up for any extra weight over the "traditional" hooks like the Boye set my Nana gave me as a child (that I still have). I wish there was a way to make knitting easier on the hands! If I can revise a pattern to crochet instead of knit, sometimes I do that so I can save my hands some pain! I started out a seamstress in my childhood, so I find revising patterns easy.
Thanks for your reviews! I normally don't comment but Furls is my big splurge in my crafting. I've told my long-distance family, if anything ever happens to me, sell my Furls on the internet, my tools are not cheap! LOL 🤣 🧶💰

I bought two of the cookies and cream crochet hooks...but didnt love them like I'd hoped...I got a set of plastic ergonomic hooks from Hobby Lobby, that were really cheap, figured I could afford to loose those in my couch, and really like them.
