Tissine is on break this month so Chirag has taken over the artwork for December! I got the artwork after I filmed and edited the video so I didn't do a full spread in the video itself but follow the link in my description to his personal page and he should have it posted!
There a theory that the sunstone may have been use as a paper towel and it's sort of a misconceptions of historic believing that past time is magical. I think Oda know that too and I love him for that 😂😂😂
It was for both reasons. Oda was smart with this. You think it’s just so that only certain members see Vivi’s message, and with 1132 you realize it’s also to show more of Elbaf within the same amount of time. 2 birds, 1 stone
Couldn’t wipe the stupid grin off my face for Ussop and Luffy finally fulfilling their dream from Little Garden. And the “Painters”?!? They’re going to be an incredible payoff and upgrade for Ussop’s boundless creativity and role within the King of the Pirates crew.
It just dawned on me that Ive been reading one piece religiously every week for more than 15 years now. I love to see the excitement of someone who got into it recently.
I didnt realize how the Sun Stone could be so useful for Nami, I like the whole idea behind. You know whats also interesting? That this seems to be the first time an Arc will have the Banquet at the START OF THE ARC and not at the end!
Oh also I really love what Grandlinereview said that Shanks might be using the rainbows to travel around the world! What a great idea that would explain how he gets places so quick like to Marineford after stopping Kaido
I love that the rainbows are probably Oda mashing up the ideas of the Bifrost and the sunstones. One of my favorite things about the manga is seeing how Oda samples existing ideas from mythology or movies or literature and makes something new and creative with them (Impel Down/Dante’s Inferno being my favorite). Loving this arc entrance too- it’s giving me Skypeia vibes!
I love Oda's panoramic shots of landscape and setting! Especially Elbaf reminds me of my childhood fairy tale books. Somewhere in my mind, I wanted to seek out different creatures on the page and trace it on thin paper to color it, like I used to ✨️
It was Viz that translated Stansen's line last chapter 1131 as "Can't use a Painter. Those Sunstones don't work when it's snowing.". Japanese have 3 writing systems, kanji and hiragana, and katakana. So the kanji was Sunstone, but the katakana for the way it's pronounced is Painter. TCB butchered that line and they didn't know how to translate it. So, don't always listen to people when they faslely credit something the officials did to the scans.
I love how 27 years in One Piece still manages to capture the magic and wonder of adventure. In fact, the world has only felt more and more beautiful over time The straw hats' journey is truly incredible. Also Elbaph having art-based technology? GIVE THEM TO USOPP NOW
It's been 25 years since Little Garden. When people say One Piece should be shorter, I can't get on board because of chapters like this. The Straw Hats arriving at Elbaf proper couldn't have possibly had this impact if One Piece was 300 or even 400 chapters. I don't mind saying that I cried when I saw the panel of Usopp and Luffy saying they're going to go to Elbaf one day. Their journey to get here has been basically my whole life, and to be experiencing that emotional catharsis of arriving here along with Luffy and Usopp is something no other story for the rest of my life can deliver.
That illustration of the Elbaf village was no joke Vinland saga tear in terms of quality. People that say oda's art sucks has no idea what they are taking about. The man can draw if he really wants to.
Hi Merphy! I think dorry and broggy said they were taking us to their village so might be safe to say the main castle here is their house and the village is the town they either built or took over at some point
Does the painter have a limit? Can we use it say to transport the Straw Hat Grand Fleet up the Redline up to a certain homebase of some Celestial Dragons? Is this why the World Government was playing nice with the Giants not because of the military power but because at any point they can rainbow sail up and attack them at any moment?
B9nney was caged from the world for 10 years that it so satisfying to see her expression on seeing elbaph , especially now that she is not running around with questions in her mind . She is finally free
Popular fan theory is that the other entrance to the Sky Islands (the one that you lose most of your crew taking, but is still considered safer) is on Elbaph. Them using island clouds is a further piece of evidence
The narrator’s line “Don’t overstay your welcome.” makes a lot more sense than the way I’ve heard it read elsewhere as “Don’t stay too long.” It has the natural implication of warning visitors not to do something stupid that would upset the giants and make them your enemies, like whatever Luffy is about to do (or what Big Mom did in the past), rather that the forced interpretation that staying too long might inflict some sort of mysterious curse.
An overall great chapter, but I think the moment that stuck with me the most (other than Luffy and Usopp at the end) was the brief flashback to Shanks telling the kid to remember the name Straw Hat Luffy. I've been a weekly One Piece reader for 23 years, and little things like that bring it all home that we're nearing the finish line. Luffy IS a great pirate now. His meeting with Shanks is coming sooner than probably any of us realize, and it's STUPID exciting!
I was right, a painter is a thing used to call or create a rainbow bridge. It’s so cool! And the Sun Level of Elbaf is gorgeous! I love the callback with Louis Arnot. I really hope we find out who that silhouette is soon. My guess is either Shiki or Scopper. What kind of deal did Luffy make with Loki? That makes me nervous because Luffy doesn’t typically make backroom deals like this and Oda certainly doesn’t hide them from us.
Two weeks without a chapter felt like torture glad it's back No break next week is the icing on top Great world building chapter that double page of Elbaph is beautiful I guess Oda off paneled Luffy vs Loki right 😂 we'll probably find out what deal they made at a later time and Oda probably doesn't wanna show Loki 's power yet Silhouette piece is back, is this the same that met Crocus back at the Twin peak
Elbaph already is so exciting, it's ridiculous. It feels like the most grand adventure our crew has ever been on. Being able to ride the rainbow just makes so much sense in terms of One Piece knowledge, and the call back to Louis Arnot and having him warning us of staying on the island for too long gave me goosebumps!
Oda finally delivers on a 20-year promise and I'm overjoyed, both for myself and for Usopp/Luffy. Elbaph is beautiful, it's more than I ever hoped it could be and I absolutely love the setting. You mentioned the levels and I'm the same way, I really dig it when a setting has fun verticality going on and this is just... Perfect. This chapter was a true 10/10 for me. I can't wait to spend time here. I want to see the rainbow bridge sailing in color. And I want to see the Astral realm too! I have a feeling that's where the royalty lives. Also sidenote, I wonder if we're going to see another remnant of Noland here 👀
I think the painters might be for Ussop. He's been able to use new gadgets and materials before, and he's established as the best artist of the crew, leaning on the painter name. Plus Ussop getting a power up in Elbaph is something we've all assumed.
I wish more people talked about Colon!! That little kid who likes shanks and know about luffy!! because his moments this chapter gave me such a little red riding hood!!! And it would fit perfectly with the themes of trickery and disguised this arc!!!
Merphy if you seen strong world you can remember that those animals from underworld are the same. Also the silhouette is most likely Shiki since a previous SBS Oda talked about him personally.
The shadowy figure could certainly be Shiki, but another promising potential character is Scopper Gaban. Gaban being a former Roger Pirate, has long hair similar to the silhouette, and is a good parallel to Silvers Rayleigh. All these points make me lean towards him over Shiki.
This arc is already as magical as I've hoped for! I can't wait to see what promise Luffy made with Loki, I just hope it doesn't break his relationship with the giants 😂. I think most of us trust Luffy though he has always been a great judge of character
I think with Robin & Saul here, Loki’s goal will be to destroy Adam, and the Straw Hats will be able prevent it, unlike at Ohara. The crew will be split between the different levels, and Oda will create a diagram of the locations to show what’s happening
She's currently not reading them because she doesn't enjoy the weekly format. Eventually she'll catch up once here is a suitable time to read all at once.
I can't wait to see Loki free. Even though it's gonna start chaos, i just can't wait for Loki to do something major. Maybe a fight with someone like against Luffy. Or just a clash Loki's character is really interesting
Am I the only one that thought about Care Bears when they sailed on the rainbow? It that weird and showing my age that that was the imagery my brain remembered during those panels…
I believe the reason Luffy is hiding what happened between him & Loki is because, he personally have something to gain in that exchange. And that reward doesn't benefit the crew, only himself, as according to their conversation, it's about Shanks. Luffy wants to know something about Shanks & since Luffy is "Selfish" ( not greedy, i mean Selfish in a positively...non harmful way ) he wants to keep that for himself. But the last one reference that Guto from Cronosfera talks about on twitter is the Brazilian folkloric legend of "Curupira". Pleash, just Google this name and see with your own eyes if that isn't like Nika's silhouet.
If the deal between luffy and Loki is the destruction of any pirate crew…it seems uncharacteristic of Luffy to follow through with that, I get the impression he wouldn’t want help in that way, only exception would be Blackbeard’s crew for the sake of avenging law’s defeat (not sure if the news has reached them yet.) But, put on your tinfoil hat…what if Vegapunk hid the “true” mother flame in elbaph, or modeled his after an “eternal flame” (in reference to the one in Norse mythology) he came across in elbaph (assuming he has been there) and Loki promised luffy “an eternal feast” where at the end of the deal he shows luffy, and tells him to eat the eternal flame assuming it will kill luffy; however upon consumption, luffy has basically unlimited energy and inadvertently/accidentally causes ragnarok on elbaph
I REALLY hope the silhouette at the end is Shiki, but if it's not I honestly would like it to be a new character. Someone to get us integrated to the weirdness of Elbaf, possibly to introduce the time dilation if THAT theory is true (maybe someone who lived during the Void Century?? instead of nami using the sun stone to navigate. why not have franky incorporate it into the empty gear slot on the sunny? coo de burst is already incorporated, it would make sense for it to have another feature. if not, I rather it be given to usopp since he's the gadget guy. btw, probably not important but do you think goldberg is collon's dad? also, i think it's hilarous that there is a collon (could be pronounced colon) and there's a GERD. Maybe we'll meet a giant named heartburn or IBS next.
My guess is the conflict will happen in the “Heaven” part of Elbaf, since we have been introduced to the underworld and the sun world first, whatever is happening up there must be the meat of the arc imo. Or I could be wrong because this is One Piece 😂
Tissine is on break this month so Chirag has taken over the artwork for December! I got the artwork after I filmed and edited the video so I didn't do a full spread in the video itself but follow the link in my description to his personal page and he should have it posted!

I think Oda know that too and I love him for that 😂😂😂
Merphy says “nothing huge happens” when we enter the land of giants… 😂
A Louis Arnot loredrop always makes things feel a bit more real.
Gerd seeing humans almost like kittens is the best joke this chapter.
I think the strawhats were split so that the ones who could recognise Vivi's message will not see it until later
It was for both reasons. Oda was smart with this. You think it’s just so that only certain members see Vivi’s message, and with 1132 you realize it’s also to show more of Elbaf within the same amount of time. 2 birds, 1 stone
Oh dang, I didn't even notice the silhouette in the next to last panel. Went back and all "they talking about the bear???" before finally seeing it.
I thought the same thing when my Patrons pointed it out 😂
I wonder if he's gonna beat the Iron Giant in terms of foreshadowbaiting
My jaw dropped seeing elbaf village looks incredible this is gonna be a epic arc
How did u comment 3 hours before the video was uploaded 🤯

so excited for this arc!
It's a tradition at this point to look for your comment under Merphy's video to let you know I'm watching yours next lol.
@@abdelrahmanelnajar9639 😄
Seeing Usopp tear up got me. We're finally here my guy!
One piece is truly magical cuz we've spent even longer than the characters waiting for these islands so we feel that relief when we're finally here🥲🥺
I didnt realize how the Sun Stone could be so useful for Nami, I like the whole idea behind.

This chapter warmed my heart so much. Felt so magical and I can’t believe we finally get to experience Elbaph!

everyone: HOLYYYY SHIIT!!! WE IN ELBAF

We must protect Robin and Bonney
Popular fan theory is that the other entrance to the Sky Islands (the one that you lose most of your crew taking, but is still considered safer) is on Elbaph. Them using island clouds is a further piece of evidence
"do not regret your LOST TIME here", time flows differently on elbaf
The narrator’s line “Don’t overstay your welcome.” makes a lot more sense than the way I’ve heard it read elsewhere as “Don’t stay too long.” It has the natural implication of warning visitors not to do something stupid that would upset the giants and make them your enemies, like whatever Luffy is about to do (or what Big Mom did in the past), rather that the forced interpretation that staying too long might inflict some sort of mysterious curse.
I love to see robin and bonney look like mother and daughter in the panel
Its either shanks can Slow down time
Or
he has a Sun stone and coats his ship for insane speed
Id say both
An overall great chapter, but I think the moment that stuck with me the most (other than Luffy and Usopp at the end) was the brief flashback to Shanks telling the kid to remember the name Straw Hat Luffy. The art, adventure and wonder in this chapter was just... Yes!
Yea in the official translation as well they also said sunstones mentioning the painters in the last chapter 1131.
Seeing the Elbaph panel with the little flashback and Luffy's and Ussop's reaction made me almost shed a little tear, it was so awesome

0:07 “Hope Oda takes proper breaks”
Oda author comments: Sorry I took a break, now I’ll go even harder
Never related to Sanji more than his reaction to Gerd
The "do not overstay your welcome" could be related to BigMom in a similar fashion to Peter Pan not growing up in his Wonderland/Fable
I’ve been so OBSESSED with the AOT reactions I was so confused to see one piece LOL.
This might be hands-down, my favorite island we visit in the series at least up to this point

Luffy made a deal with Loki to get info on Shanks. One of the only things he would attach that kind of importance to.
OMG
THE STONE IS HOW SHANKS COULD GET TO MARINEFORD SO QUICK AFTER FIGHTING OFF KAIDOU
im so into the theory that time passes slower on elbaph. would be such perfection to enter the finale
Overjoyed for Usopp to get this moment. Maybe it'll make some of the folks slandering him shut up once his arc here REALLY takes off.
Last time an arc had this much promise for grand adventure was Skypeia. Elbaph is starting strokg
Oda probably has added sounds to things. But I feel like he's more conscious of that this will potentially be animated.
Sorry for off-topic, but does anyone know if Merphy will make videos about the new hxh chapters? Because they've all been amazing.
She's currently not reading them because she doesn't enjoy the weekly format. Eventually she'll catch up once here is a suitable time to read all at once.
One is peak fiction
This chapter was amazing! Not seeing Kuma in a while worries me though
Can you *please* read and review DandaDan? I'm sure you've been asked a ton but I really, really think you'd adore the characters in it
I personally prefer the idea that Sunstone tech is what Franky's gonna use to turn the Sunny into Pluton 2.0. Imagine a rainbow coup de burst.
I feel like Louis could be Clover's older brother or his older brother was a part of his expedition team
Patiently (not at all trembling with excitement) waiting for someone to show the alabasta 6 the newspaper with the x on luffys arm.
This chapter was peak One Piece
I can't wait to see Loki free. Even though it's gonna start chaos, i just can't wait for Loki to do something major. Maybe a fight with someone like against Luffy. Or just a clash
Loki's character is really interesting
Am I the only one that thought about Care Bears when they sailed on the rainbow? It that weird and showing my age that that was the imagery my brain remembered during those panels…
I feel like Louis & the Brag Men novel inspired Roger to sail on the high seas
I believe the reason Luffy is hiding what happened between him & Loki is because, he personally have something to gain in that exchange. And that reward doesn't benefit the crew, only himself, as according to their conversation, it's about Shanks.
Luffy wants to know something about Shanks & since Luffy is "Selfish" ( not greedy, i mean Selfish in a positively...non harmful way ) he wants to keep that for himself.
If Loki turns out to be a villain, I think he will remember that Luffy is the one who let him loose & he will not cause harm to him or any of the Strawhats.
Yes, I believe what the characters say about Loki ! He is dangerous. You know, I don't like this thing in the One Piece community where, we read One Piece the way we want it to make sense and not the way Oda wants to flesh out his story.
The recent thing i can think of, is when Emeth released Joy Boy's haki and Dorry & Broggy are like "...wow, I couldn't believe there was haki stronger than Shank's..." ( paraphrasing ) AND you have part of the community saying..."Nahh...Shanks has the strongest haki in One Piece" ( paraphrasing )
I hope, I could explain it further for comprehension & understanding...
Anyway 😅
Hey Merphy, to set your curiosity, "Louis Arnot" was the name of a real Brazilian priest in the missions to catechize the natives during the colonial period of the country. Curious there is this historical reference to Brazil when Oda says Luffy would Brazilian, right? Not just that, a lot of Brazilian youtubers with content about One Piece have a bunch of theories about other references to Brazilian culture, especially related to Nika and Luffy. But the last one reference that Guto from Cronosfera talks about on twitter is the Brazilian folkloric legend of "Curupira". Pleash, just Google this name and see with your own eyes if that isn't like Nika's silhouet.
if the prologue is long, i just know that the whole arc will also be long
If the deal between luffy and Loki is the destruction of any pirate crew…it seems uncharacteristic of Luffy to follow through with that, I get the impression he wouldn’t want help in that way, only exception would be Blackbeard’s crew for the sake of avenging law’s defeat (not sure if the news has reached them yet.)

Louis arnot feels like a name out of their world. I wonder if oda gonna include 4th wall being broken. 😂
Mu headcanon on how to say Louis Arnot is very French, something like lüi arnoh
Luffy doesn't like to break promises,
probably why he bit his tounge.
I REALLY hope the silhouette at the end is Shiki, but if it's not I honestly would like it to be a new character. Might be scopper
Rainbow Bridges is a totally Norse thing too right or is that just mcu thor lore
I wonder if the rainbow is meant to be a superfluid.
It does talk about how there is no resistance.
Imagine shanks telling the little giant to remember straw hat luffy's name just to find out he was the one who unleashed ragnarok on them
Cash money says Loki offered him food and a party if he’s freed.
I heard a theory that 3 days in elbalph is 3 years to the rest of the world.
Bifrost bridges?
im calling it now the silhouette We saw in the chapter is more than likely to be LOUIS ARNOT himself there was never any announcement of him being dead also why couldnt it be louis arnot who was drinking with crocus on that cover page.
What if louis arnot got stuck on elbaph and was forced to adapt to the lining conditions to survive and he wrote memoirs about his life an stay in elbaff an a cautionary tale to froewarn all travelers coming to elbaph and what to expect during their visist to prevent others from the fate he now lives
But he met Crocus you know. I don't think it's Louis Arnolt.
@ why not man This is ONE PIECE anything can happen an if it is louis arnot HE WILL BE THE KEY TO EXPLAINING HOW ELBAPH TIME WORKS
I heard David Attenborough voices as the narrator
