The one piece is a pie. "it is better to eat crust in peace than a banquet in anxiety"-Aesop fables. Black beard was first introduced eating pie with Luffy in anxiety both arguing about what's best but both claim the crust is good.
I saw someone say that this arc feel like pre-timeskip because Elbaf was written 20 years ago. They said it as a joke but it honestly feels that way a little bit with the callbacks and the crew's interactions.
Another thing I haven't seen in a LONG time is Chopper actually talking to (or at least translating for) an animal. I think the last time was during Return to Sabaody when he thanked the Giant Bird for the assist.
Sanji and Nami *do* freak out about bugs! There's a brief scene in the Jaya arc where they run far away from a tarantula while Usopp happily plays with it
This chapter gave me such pre-timeskip vibes, which is huge for me. The crew whistling in awkwardness, Nami’s “you owe me” and Luffy’s monkey brain immediately running to where he was told NOT to was hilarious, and I *delusionally* hope that the whole arc keeps with these vibes
Jormungandr also known as the World Serpent, circles the world and bites its own tail like an Ouroboros Releasing its tail is the sign of the beginning of Ragnarok, the final war against the gods And guess what would be comparable to that in One Piece's setting, the Red Line circling around the world and separating it Probably artificial of origin. But also back in Little Garden when Dorry and Broggy killed the Island Eater, Dorry says '' Only the serpent cloaked in blood can withstand our attacks '' Was he referring to the Red Line being an obstacle even they can't destroy? And that whenever that does happen will be the beginning of the end for the false gods who overtook the top of the red wall
Definitely finding it hard to believe this person is the sun god that Dorry and Broggy were referring to when they saw Luffys gear 5th form and said "wow, you look like the sun god!!"
I'm so scared that One Piece is going to have a big collab with LEGO, because Merphy might straight up explode! Also, the page where the sun god enters the room reminds me a lot of that one Community scene.
With the official translation I think my slightly more dull theory, that the snakes name is a combination of two of children myths Loki Hel and Jörmungandr. The more fun theory (but from the start more unlikely) I had after reading the scan was that since they called it Hyllmungandr it was that it was a combination of the Swedish word hylla, meaning shelf, and Jörmungandr. Making it a shelf snake.
We were wrong abouy iy being a toybox. They were trapped on a table top rpg board. Whoever this Sun God is, just wanted to play game session with the Straw Hats.

I don't think that the "Sun God" shown in this chapter is even the Sun God the giants of Elbaf know. Because the moment the giants saw Luffy's bounty they knew that Luffy was Sun God Nika just as Kuma and Bonney.
My theory is that this will be revealed to be Loki. They’ve mentioned the name a lot before this, and I think giants are supposed to age super slowly, considering Dorry and Brogy were cool with having a 100 year long duel. I’m not going on much besides that, but that’s where my gut is pointing.
idk about all the inconsistencies, but the bug thing has definitely been mentioned before lmao. when reading this chapter i was laughing so hard bc nami and surprisingly SANJI are always the ones being freaked out by bugs, especially back in jaya/skypiea! so that felt very in character to me. and nami telling chopper he owes her money for the comforting him really did feel like a typical nami gag to me personally, especially bc it was like a throwaway line that wasnt lingered on so it didnt feel very serious, but idk.
Zoro can usually find his way if he hears a sound etc. It is when he has to rely solely on direction that he cannot find his way around. I think that Nami part about Chopper owing her is just a gag. Both Nami and Sanji are canonically afraid of bugs.
I love Mr Morj idea about it being one of the God Knights with some mini-mini fruit that can make others small. All the animals would just be normal size. Still lots of strange stuff overall happening but a Cat changing in a Lion might be cause it ate the Cat-Cat fruit model Lion. There is no real reason for them to suspect them being made small. As they were on the way to the land of Giants, so everything being giant ain't strange.
@merphynapier42 Don’t give up on your thought that the Sun God is a child. I’ve had the same thought all along. As for the slender build and being “huge” for a giant, well, what about a young, female, ancient giant (Oars type). Could explain why she is on an island off Elbaf, whether self isolated or part of a diminished tribe, or just exiled from the main giant population. My thinking is she catches fish and finds human ships inside, or an occasional sailor / pirate… She takes care of them, like she does her animal pets. She could have found the Sunny inside a fish. Cleaned up the crew (and has the ship stored away). Maybe keeping Chopper away from the others was for his protection and thinking him to be a pet put a collar on… Anyway, my guess is this “Sun God” is going to be our ally through the arc. Like a Super-Sized Tama. 😂
I didn't expect to see Wlias feom the Ancient Magus' Bride in One Piece, but cool. Seriously though,I think this giant is an outcast or someone who lives in the outskirts playing with Lego & ruling over people because he wants to feel powerful and needed or emulate Nika.
If you're looking for a new Manga to read through I'd personally recommend Trigun. Vash the stampede and Wolfwood are great characters and I think you'd enjoy the story and world.
I think the Yggdrasil in the “land of gods” playsets is actually just a regular Elbaf tree inside the “sun god’s” house. He grew a tree in his house and built different “worlds” around each branch. So if one branch were to catch fire, the entire tree and all the “worlds” the sun god giant built around the tree would burn. And the sun god’s house would probably burn down as well. Which might be an important place in Elbaf, causing some conflict.
Alot of the weird inconsistencies don't happen in this chapter. In Wano Zoro finds Luffy by "following the noise". Money greedy Nami(cat burglar) is making a come back, nothing out of the ordinary. Sanji and Nami are very frightful about bug, remember when they tried to find the south bird?
I don't think there are any inconsistenty Nami charging is a classic, there is nothing as a free service to her Sanji and Nami fears bugs we saw it in Jaya Zoro finding Luffy is not strange because they are in a cage and Zoro can use observation to find things like his sword in Dressrosa Usopp was lying saying he lost his cool because he always freaking out and never been cool Every interaction was on point this chapter
11:00 this description of how it felt to see the giant's room made me think of the eerie feel that you get from the description of the worndown eye doctor poster in The Great Gatsby and all the worn down posters of 1984- a silent stalker, a watcher, an observant
Even more than Luffy runinga away toward adventures the moment he hear that is dangerous, what i love is the almost instant realisation, i mean she is just the tired older sister that knows his little brother so much that i can assure you she knew her captain was gonna fly away the moment the man finish the sentense
Hilmundgandr is such a funny pun name to me because yoru is Japanese for night and hiru is day, so Hilmundgandr is like the sunny version of Jormundgandr I guess 😂
I'd say of note is that the "sun god" looks a _lot_ like one of the God's Knights we saw with Garling in Kuma's flashback. Same coat and skull headpiece and all. Could be that the Straw Hats were shrunk, rather than caught by a giant. Would make more sense they were caught by someone along the way, rather than somehow made their way to Elbaf before the others who are on the giant ship.
I think Zoro could find the others because he was just following the noise - even he is capable of simply walking in the direction of something he has directly observed
The leading theory for me is that this "Sun God" is actually just a normal human and they have a devil fruit ability that can shrink people, which hasnt been shown yet. This would be a very cool misdirection from Oda to make us think we are in Elbaf
In chapter 1096, there is a holy knight with the same type of mask that this Sun God has. Since the God Valley Incident was almost 40 years ago, this might be their child or part of a tribe or something.
Good stuff! I'm honestly really curious regarding this whole situation they're in. The lack of stakes right off the bat really gives an early One Piece vibe, and that's always great to see.
I've read it a couple of times but I still have no idea what the eff is happening. But I love it! But yes, if you go back to Jaya, Nami and Sanji are not a fan of bugs.
It will definitely be funny if the Sun God is revealed to be a giant prepping a DND session for their friends and the Straw Hats have ruined all their meticulous planning (any DM can relate)
The tree that we've previously seen on Elbaf hasn't been given a confirmed name. We don't actually know the name. Some think it's Yggdrasil and some think it's The Adam Tree but no name has actually been confirmed. This tree can be called Yggdrasil while the other is The Adam Tree. Either way, the tree in this Lego town is called Yggdrasil. That's confirmed at least.
You know, during a RUclips rabbit hole moment, I came across some ant farm/colony video. From the point of view of the ants, this must earth shattering to know that your own world is not only fake but observed and controlled by a giant entity. But from the perspective of the dude behind the camera, I could tell that he really REALLY cared about his ants and loved them very much. I wonder if this is the same for the Sun God.
I could definitely see this sun god being Loki. His antlers form like his crown and trickery is amidst. And tho elbaf is based in this mythology we aren’t certain how closely its culture will follow. If we imagine the other rooms containing other miniatures we’ve basically set up the perfect way to introduce all the realms for the crew to go through. This sun god may be bigger than normal giants or maybe Loki is compensating for not being a real giant. If they’re on a ship it could serve as the realm between realms or the world tree
Maybe this "Sun God" is an un-athletic "nerd" Giant in a society of Viking Warriors who prefers to stay at home to play pretend Sun God with their pets and human NPCs.
2 options come to mind. First, that's not a mask, but a headdress, & that's adding height. Second: a shrinking devil fruit power. The giant may not be getting bigger, but the people may be. So there are other realms behind those doors? Think there are nine of them?
I love the sun god child theory, I had the same in the last chapter, but the sun god seems to be adult-size when we look at him in the corridor. There is still the possibility that Oda is playing with us where the crew has been shrunk, and that's why this sun god seems bigger than normal giants. Also, I just happened to reread the Skypia arc and especially the flashback with Noland and the Shandians, where they see the giant snakes as deities, and it's a lot similar to all the talk about the ear god, spikes god and whatnot. Can't wait to find out.
I think it’s possible that this is a servant to Loki. The stone hallway feels more like a castle or dungeon than it does a house. Most of the structures we’ve seen on Elbaf before have been stilted off the ground and made of wood
I think the "sun god" is the man marked by flames, and he roams the sea dragging ships to add to his realms. I also think he was banished from the land of gods, because he brings tempest and storms wherever he goes; so he is in direct opossition to the sun; and that's why he LARPs (live action role plays) as the sun god. I think the final road poneglyff is either in stein castle, or maybe hidden away in this massive ship via a plot with loki, the prince of tricks and mischiveousness. This could also explain why big mom never got that poneglyff, and also why she was so hell bent on marrying lola to loki; maybe she knew more than she let on?
Regarding the raven names, we meet two office assistants in Dresden files who are called H and M by their very Norse-inspired boss. They specifically have very dark hair and long, black-painted fingernails. I don't recall whether we ever actually hear their full names, but it isn't hard to guess.
I think we are on the ship of that Giant. It would be odd for another random island to be nearby Elbaf on which another Giant lives. So maybe the Giant encountered the SH on sea and kidnapped the Sunny while everyone was drunk.
Nami and Sanji freaked out at bugs together on Jaya. (Usopp was OK with them and Luffy loved beetles so much he couldn't decide if a stag beetle or the One Piece was better to have.) It's plausible Zoro could follow a sound to what he thinks is a fight. He's done similar before; it's more when he has a direction he's supposed to follow that he gets lost (aside from Dressrosa I guess). So far their characterization isn't far enough out of normal parameters to seem significant imho. One exception: I have no idea what's up with Luffy calling out the wrong move before. That alone is suspicious af.
The start of this arc really feels like a DnD campaign, idk how to explain it, but it's all very off but still in the same vibes. I feel like there is something bigger at play, and that this is like a dream dimension where someone can create dreams
Naw she doesn't go past original series. She didn't watch boruto cause fans said it's bad even if it's opinion. She didn't watch DBZ past DBZ cause she thinks its not important. Funny thing is she'd like super more as she likes the slice of life aspects vs fighting. Doesn't matter i feel like the era of new viewers experiencing stuff people like is over. They all skip filler even good ones, call series mid then go on to something short. They want it now mentality. Glad they all tend to read one piece first as its on the top popular even if technically its not that popular in the west lol. I heard also that this current arc so far is better than all of JJK, Attack on titan, and My hero. I'm waiting to watch the show but dang one piece must be killing it.
Zoro gets lost easily, but he does find his way to things on his own a lot, tho it's usually by mistake. However during the raid on Onigashima, Zoro wanted to find Luffy to stop him from causing a scene, so he followed the sound of the commotion and found him. So it's not necessarily an inconsistency, and he could have still gotten lost and taken a roundabout way to get to him. And idk about the gear 3rd/gear 4th thing, but we have seen Oda make mistakes plenty of times before with designs and outfits. It's definitely a lot for one chapter, but it's a new arc and it's entirely possible they were rushing through it before the break.
I have the biggest crackpot theory for that "sun god" Enel The close up on the eye in the last panel looks a lot like his, he could use his electricity to move the clothes, they could be on the arc maxim refit into an Elbaphan pirate ship, the fact lego bricks don't conduct electricity well could also be something but I haven't figured that one out yet. There's also a OP theorist that is convinced Eminem will be back and she's been right on wilder things before
Hylmungadrr or however you spell it might be a reference to Jormungandr the world serpent in norse myth that circles the world like the red line. Dorry and Broggy did talk about a blood red serpent back in little garden. Also, i think someone said the hilming part could be a translation for closet so he is a closet serpent 😂 Muginn is a combination of Muninn and Huginn which are odin's crows Btw, there are two Loki in norse mythology. One is Loki the trickster god and the other is Utsgard Loki also a trickster giant in Jotunheim
Zoro's tracked something based on some immediate sense before. That's the ONLY way he can reliably navigate anything, in that he's not actually navigating, just directly following one of his senses. Though... sometimes even that backfires like when he decided to just "go where it's warmer". Nami's not above using MOST people for her own gain but... she has a soft spot for kids, BUUUUT she's also ordered Chopper to "protect her" in past arcs like the sky island so... yeah maybe she doesn't fully see Chopper as a kid.
I think the sun god giant is on a ship and grabbed the gang from the deck of the giants ship when they were all passed out. I think the sun god is banished from elbaf and has created their own mini version on their ship.
All the character interactions this chapter are in-character for the strawhats, zoro found luffy using the noise, if he relied on his inner compass he would of gotten lost, nothing weird in this chapter besides the sun god's motive for putting ppl and animals in a playbox terrarium but ig this is the best they are gonna get to gaming or its their form of escapism from the elbaf fighting culture
I think Luffy using g fifth a lot is a way of him training it. Luffy can do what he pleases en gear 4 without effort now but we saw the process from hard to effortlessly I think that's how he is gonna portray more of Luffy in gear 5 mastering the form and maybe get serious, how can a serious gear fith could look and how the power can go out of hand.
Nami has seen sentient cartoon trees, zombie trees, coral trees, trees in the sky, trees as big as a mountain and soap trees so tall they are their own archipelago. Trees that look kinda blocky is entirely reasonable in this world.
I’m sure that a lot of this arc has been planned for a long time and it just took forever to get to it. Maybe Oda had the basics mapped out for his 5 year plan before one piece exploded lol
Someone has pointed out the sun god matches a character from the god valley flashback we got in egghead. So it could be a God's Knight. Honey, I shrunk the kid vibes being given could the strawhats have been made smaller.

From the point of view of the ants, this must earth shattering to know that your own world is not only fake but observed and controlled by a giant entity. But from the perspective of the dude behind the camera, I could tell that he really REALLY cared about his ants and loved them very much.
I wonder if this is the same for the Sun God.
Oh you mean Ants Canada? Love that guy haha
Pretty sure Usopps outfit is a tribute to the comic character Obelix!
OH I was trying to think what it reminded me of
I could definitely see this sun god being Loki.
My bet? The God with big size for giant standards is just 2 kids wearing an adult costume
the fake son god reminds me of Elias Ainzworth from Ancient Magus Bride
Wow what an art. Great job Tissine!
RPG = Rowdy Pirate Group
I love the new character's mask
Maybe the inconsistencies are just the RPG glitching
Btw the bird’s name is pronounced “Moogin.” So a long U. Like in the word “use”
Personally, I don't think they're a child. I think this "sun God" is just an otaku reject lol.
Dude, you were spot on. If you didn't read the spoilers, then congrats.
So, this sun god is likely Rodo! Rodo the new giants pirates
I feel like the inconsistencies can still be explained as hallucinations but in a recovery stage as they’re waking up from a hangover
You should watch Dragon Ball Daima, I think you’d like it because your were fond of the pre time skip series!
I have the biggest crackpot theory for that "sun god"
Enel
The close up on the eye in the last panel looks a lot like his, he could use his electricity to move the clothes, they could be on the arc maxim refit into an Elbaphan pirate ship, the fact lego bricks don't conduct electricity well could also be something but I haven't figured that one out yet.
Also, i think someone said the hilming part could be a translation for closet so he is a closet serpent 😂
Muginn is a combination of Muninn and Huginn which are odin's crows
Btw, there are two Loki in norse mythology. One is Loki the trickster god and the other is Utsgard Loki also a trickster giant in Jotunheim
Extra-large review by Merphy, let's go!
Arthur (library of ohara) mentioned that the people in the village might be shrunk down giants which is an entertaining thought
Usopp's fit is very Obelisk from Asterix and Obelisk
Zoro's tracked something based on some immediate sense before. That's the ONLY way he can reliably navigate anything, in that he's not actually navigating, just directly following one of his senses. Though... sometimes even that backfires like when he decided to just "go where it's warmer". Nami's not above using MOST people for her own gain but... she has a soft spot for kids, BUUUUT she's also ordered Chopper to "protect her" in past arcs like the sky island so... yeah maybe she doesn't fully see Chopper as a kid.
What translations are you reading ?😅
I think the sun god giant is on a ship and grabbed the gang from the deck of the giants ship when they were all passed out. I think the sun god is banished from elbaf and has created their own mini version on their ship.
The Sun God's staff being used as a halo is baller composition and very Renaissancy
20:22 nami defeated the hedgehog
Oda just did the Pizza delivery Meme. Also, for no particular or good reason, I kinda cracked up when Sanji volunteered to clean the Sunny.
I think this is a classic "Honey I Shrunk the Strawhats" scenario.
I’m sure that a lot of this arc has been planned for a long time and it just took forever to get to it. Maybe Oda had the basics mapped out for his 5 year plan before one piece exploded lol
24:48 of course the mystery giant isnt the sun god, Luffy is!
Someone has pointed out the sun god matches a character from the god valley flashback we got in egghead. So it could be a God's Knight.
Honey, I shrunk the kid vibes being given could the strawhats have been made smaller.
I was so upset that they weren't hallucinating so that means all those inconsistencies were just mistakes lol maybe it'll be explained later
I think the Straw Hats are dealing with something truly terrifying… a fanboy/cosplayer/lego collector!
Nami and Sanji hate bugs since the Jaya Arc, Merph! They state as much during the search for the Southbirds
I can't wait for it to be revealed that the title is actually meant for Rocket Propelled Grenade
Thank you!!!! I love Usopp fit!!!!!! He looks like Thor
