  • A question that I am often asked on this channel is how much it costs to live in Thailand. Well, how long is a piece of string? So, my answer is…it depends on where you want to live, and how you intend to live your life in retirement. I know people who through necessity, live on virtually nothing. But I also know people who live in exclusive upscale apartments or houses with a large disposable income and live their lives to the fullest. This is part two of How Much It Costs to Establish Yourself in Thailand, with part one being about owning or renting real estate in Thailand.
    This video will cover:
How Much Will You Pay for Electricity and Water?
How Much Does It Cost to Buy a Car or A Motorbike Here?
The Cost of Flights Petrol and Bus Journeys
How Much Will Your Monthly Mobile Phone Cost Be?
    The Cost of Eating Out
    The Cost of Groceries

Hi Adrian. I'm not sure if you bought my book The Retire in Thailand handbook 2023 but if so it tells you everything you need to know about moving to Thailand including bringing your pet, your car and bringing personal goods into the country plus much much more information.
I have put a link below to my Amazon bookstore shelf. I hope that this helps

Hi Ged,about, buying a car,my wife have told me about a website (I forgot the name) where they offer you a second hand car,of different models, but the company go trough all of the car,and makes sure that everything is okay, and it comes with I think it was some six month guarantee (or more)and you don’t have to make any down payment, before delivery, and they will deliver the car to where ever you live in Thailand, and I think that could be another alternative if yo don’t necessarily need or want to spend to much money for a new car,for me having a motorcycle is out of the question. Thanks for another comprehensive video.😊😊

Hi Per. Sounds like a great way to buy a car. Personally I have never bought a new car in 55 years of driving only used cars. Even my 105cc motorbike here in Thailand I bought second hand in 2018 for 30,000 Baht and it has never let me down once. Living in Hua Hin I prefer driving a motorbike but long distance driving I prefer a car which I normally rent

Hi mate, no that's what Google search is for if people want to know more after the video ends. I do this as an interest and to keep me active in retirement and to help people who are thinking of living here but I can't do everything or there would be no "Me Time"

In the UK we also have to pay a "standing charge" for both gas and electricity. This is often more than the cost of the energy consumed. What a rip off.
I also have to pay £130 per month for Poll Tax. Ouch!

Hi William. By the time you have paid your income tax, poll tax, road tax, vat and tax on petrol and every other invented tax there's not much left for you. The world's gone crazy with taxes. I'm so glad that I left the UK when I did all those years ago.

Hi Kevin.I was just telling people how much things are to buy here I can't put everything that people may want to know about the cost of living here in my videos...that's what a Google search is for. I bought my 105 CC motorbike second hand 6 years ago and it has taken me the length and bredth of Thailand and it's still going strong to this day so I am no different to you. I didn't put the price of second hand vehicles and I also didn't put the price of second hand clothes because everyone knows that they will be cheaper and they can do their own research, I can't do everything
      Cheers

Hi Gerry, love your videos and books. We are from Australia and can't wait to retire to Hua Hin. Can I ask if you waited until you were 67 to get the pension before you moved full time to Thailand? I'm getting conflicting reports about having to live full time in Australia after getting the pension before it's portable. Thank you.

    • @thailandmyland...retiringd2351
      @thailandmyland...retiringd2351  2 месяца назад +1

Hi Nik. I retired to Thailand when I had just turned 66 in 2017 after living most of my adult life in Australia, arriving in 1974. It can be very confusing because governments love to move the goalposts. Also if you are not an Australian citizen but maybe lived there for most of your life the rules are different. Best to contact your local Centrelink office to clarify your own circumstances. Australia is quite good when it comes to paying your pension when retiring overseas but other countries are not so accommodating. For instance the UK government freezes your pension from the day that you leave the country with no yearly cost of living increases. I was back in Australia last year and wasnt impressed with what I saw or the scary cost of living so I am sure that you will love living here. Good luck with your move
      Cheers

@@thailandmyland...retiringd2351Just to clarify Ged the UK has a reciprocal agreement with some country's meaning that they do increase the pension annually depending on the rate of inflation , calling it the triple lock , the Philippines is included and so are most of the EU countries , you are correct in saying Thailand is not included. I am UK based and when I get the chance I will be posting a budget comparison of my outgoings in the UK and yours in Thailand, I would prefer to move to Thailand permanently but I may have to slow travel between several countries to make it work me as when you factor things like health care and visa costs it more or less works out the same , in fact when you consider you get free NHS health care , dental treatment , bus travel, eye tests and blood tests all of which are free the UK is probably better.
