Also I was just going to add that I checked the Nicolaï website and their 30ml bottles of New York is about 50 euros which make them maybe one of the more "economically approchable" ones, and you made me want to try it! A word that exists in French is "désuétude" which would be a word for past things that are of their time but to me if you use this word it suggests you still have a fond attachement for them, or even a love for them. No relation whatsoever to any of that, I was gifted Hypnotic Poison in EdT and I am very happy!

Thanks for another entertaining, thorough video on great perfumes! The Guerlain L'Heure Bleue sounds amazing as Guerlain is usually lovely, and rumor has it (although one can never trust rumor) that the late Queen Elizabeth used to wear it at one point! Somehow I can't imagine her wearing vanilla, but maybe done the way it is in this....

Yes, I’ve heard that rumour too. Who knows if it’s true.

Another excellent review, thank you. Living in a part of the world with cold and snow and blue December light, I am floating on a wonderful wave these days of "Cinnabar" (Estee Lauder) I am lucky to have a bottle from the 90's edition still available on eBay and still smelling devine. If you are familiar with it it I would love to hear your take on it.
Another review I would love to hear from you is Annouk Goutal "Eau De Ciel". This is a perfume I personally haven't smelled, but one that makes me curios. Maybe you have one on your treasure vault? The third is Hermes "24 Faubourg" and finally "White Rose" from Floris. Apparently one of Queen Elizabeth's favourite 'day perfumes' throughout her life, but unknown brand and fragrance to me.

I don't know if it is exactly what you mean, but I feel "saudade" for the classic height of perfumery. Symphonic and transportive; some mix of carefully dosed synthetics and high quality naturals. Saudade is a pain in ones heart, a crippling longing, arising of great love for what you have lost or are about to lose. Brazilians suffer greatly of saudade; a longing for their homeland or a lover as they left them, and may never see the same again. Scent does touch that deepest part of us doesn't it?
Loved your list, particularly you bringing out old greats: New York and L'Heure Bleue.

I didn't finish watching the video last time. Just listened to "I'm not in love" from 10CC after seeing your review about vintage L'Heure Bleue. 70's music feels sooo good! And perfectly fits perfume nostalgia IMO. Even if it's not the same period. Your swooning over the perfume just makes me think of the feeling music does for me as well. And quoting one line of the song- " you waited a long time for me" is quite appropriate for my waiting for the newest reformulation of L'Heure Bleue which is very well done! :P Perfume like music can make me high...the only drugs I've ever consumed.

When a German perfume lover überbehütet (overly safeguards) his beloved treasures they may lock them up inside a special closet out of Torschlußpanik (panic that a door wiil close forever and no more access available). In case the Verlustangst (fear of loss, as you have already explained) should endanger them of developing severe Zukunftsangst (fear of the future) it may lead to Hamsterkäufe (shopping with the aim of hoarding , don't we all know those to some extent?). Lets hope that they never loose the key to their closet! It would certainly produce a severe Angstneurose (which is self explanatory).
Your list of perfumes may not justify such seemingly irrational German behaviour, but it most certainly explains why it may occur.

I am now obsessed with smelling the beauty that is Guerlain’s 1912 L’Heure Bleue. You, my good man, have connections. I don’t, so where can one access a sniff of this beauty, if anywhere? I’m in NYC but flights to Paris will not be objected to. Since I don’t think I will ever get my hands on a Tardis, I would love to smell my way to time travel. I adore Guerlain, and Shalimar was my first perfume when I was about 17. The sweet, candied violet wistfulness is beyond beautiful to me, but the newer versions seem so thin, and my preference is for thick, deep, immersive beauty. I suspect that was the unabashed 1912 version of LB. To be honest, I would adore the chance to experience all of the original Guerlains, as they were meant to be experienced. This was, as always, a wonderful episode, and one that has given me a quest! Happiest of holidays and the best of New Years to you and your family.

I'm sure you must be able to find L'Heure Bleue in NYC. If not, I'd say maybe the first thing would be to contact Guerlain.
If you ever find yourself in the Paris area, then you should book an appointment at the Osmotheque. Here's a link to an article about it, in case you don't already know what it is: basenotes.com/articles/guardians-of-the-past-a-trip-to-the-osmotheque.1962/

Your video, dear Persolaise, made me rush to try Une Fleur de Cassie. And you know what? The lady in the shop told me that, unlike nearly all the other Malle perfumes she's got in store, Une Fleur de Cassie is the one she has sold the least since her boutique opened ten years ago. Two bottles only. She hasn't got a tester any longer for that reason. What do you say to that?
Anyway, I am giving Plum in Cognac a try, and it's splendidly boozy, spicy, fruity, warm. Amazing stuff, as I'm sure Max Forti would put it. 🙂 Have you tried it? Any chance that you'll review it soon? Or have you already?
