People are sometimes surprised to hear that Halloween is not new in Scotland, where it is centuries old. It's Old Hallows Eve. We used to carve lanterns out of turnips (swedes), not easy I can tell you, and children go "guising" from door to door for sweets and apples. We used to wear simple home made costumes. When I was young we had to sing a song or tell a joke to get the treats. I always choose a Halloween fragrance. I love your selection. I'm dipping into whats left of my quite old The Unicorn Spell from Lez Nez.
Thank you for encouraging me to revisit Dior Poison. I despised (and resented) this scent in the 80s. It smelled so terrible on me (berry barf), but this teenage goth desperately wanted to wear something called "Poison." I recently stopped at Macy's and revisited this scent. I don't know whether it's because I've aged or the reformulation has made this scent "friendlier," but I can finally wear Poison and now understand why this is considered a benchmark tuberose. I came home with a full bottle. I hope you and Madame Persolaise are having a peaceful holiday and look forward to your videos in 2023.
Saw the Poison thumbnail and I approve. :) I have been hitting up the flanker Hypnotic Poison for Halloween, which is more of a sorceress choice. Plus for a chocolate/praline fragrance hitting up Carolina Herrera Good Girl as I'm typing this. I think Poison is one of Madonna's favorites too. I had been gazing at my bottle of Mugler's Alien as well, the version I have is the newer version. Mugler's Alien is kind of sci-fi, reminds me of Seven of Nine from Star Trek or thinking of Quorra from Tron:Legacy.
Aaaah POISON my signature fragrance I have been wearing it every since it made it grand entrance I love every bit of it I can’t get enough of it it just entrancing
Thank you for this entertaining video! I believe I didn't wear perfume on the 31st. For some perfume lovers, not wearing perfume might be scary. :P I regularly like to "pause" wearing it. I remember when I first bought Black Afgano. I've never smoked in my life and I usually really don't like the smell of Marijuana but at that time, I liked the Nasomatto's interpretation. A way to feel naughty maybe? ;-) But to be honest, I didn't wear it very often. After 10 years, my bottle is still almost full. I agree with you. Metallic notes can be quite scary. I'm not fond of them. M/Ink is special indeed. I wouldn't wear it but it didn't frighten me. Neither did Sécrétions Magnifiques even though I didn't enjoy smelling the metallic notes in it. Wouldn't wear it either. As for Panthère I was surprised that you find it "scary". I really enjoy smelling it though it's not really my kind of perfume. I found L'Heure Perdue much scarier. I love vanilla perfumes but I can't stand milk accords. And aldehydes are often scary to me. :-) I have to get my nose on Dior Poison extract. There was a period I loved wearing the Hypnotic Version though it's quite different of course. And same as you I love Alien Essence Absolue. I'm not a fan of the original Alien, too strange to my nose. But the Absolue is so smooth, much more terrestrial than alien in my opinion.
My witchy perfumes are my favourite Chanels - No19 and Cristalle. I can imagine the Wicked Witch of the West, Mortica and Vampira wearing these fragrances. I feel that they have that bewitching quality about them!

Loved your reaction to Sécrétions Magnifiques! It's utterly unwearable, one of the very few fragrances I cannot stand. Funny story: I once wanted to let a few fellow perfume fans get a taste of this and I pull it out of a bag only for the sample vial to break and spill all over my hands, and bag. I raced for a nearby kitchen sink to scrub it off, but the smell was there for hours. The horror! The bag? Well, it didn't survive: I don't know where it is now. Thank goodness!
Oh how I love a vintage Poison! Definitely one of my top witchy scents. My others are Amouage Memoir Woman makes me want to have a séance in the forest at midnight. Olympic Orchids Nightflyer (original Bat) for when I want to smell like a melancholy vampire that kinda got forgotten about in a cave. Noir de Noir for the more stylish vamp that like to drink cocktails. Ormonde Woman is my gothic freshie that feels like stepping into a Brothers Grimm tale. And of course Serge Lutens Fils de Joie. Despite the name, probably the most viscous and nightmarish scent I own.
Mr. Persolaise, this inspired me to plan to wear my modern Poison EdT this coming Monday. Poisonous Tuberose! It still causes strong reactions, for better or worse. I am very introverted, so these sort of "demanding" scents are something that allows me to express myself better, without even uttering a word. I love the current version, as it is hard to find an old one in good shape. Smells beautiful and "challenging", and does bring me back to the 80s as child/young teen. Will never be without Poison EdT moving forwards. 🧙♀️ As always, thanks so much for your work. 👍

Fantastic video with some interesting choices! I do feel Noir de Noir is fit for a suave Dracula (I think I once commented before!), complete with bouquet of roses and box of Milk Tray. The ELDO I'm surprised you didn't go for was Hermann A Mes Cotes. There's something distinctly 'gravekeeper' like about it (imagine hulking heavy boots in a wood after the rain). A bit damp and earthy, but also with a rose note burried in there. I also found Penhaligon's now discontinued LP No.9 quite intruiging as a witchy fragrance. I hear it's akin to Dune? There's a herbal feel to it that does conjure up images of cauldrons and spells. Finally, more fantasy werewolf than scary, but Mechant Loup deserves a shout for me - Just enough wet fur in there!

Restaurants with chefs that took themselves quite seriously, would probably be annoyed by some perfumes, particularly the hideously overpowering Giorgio, filling the room with its acrid scent, rather than the scent of the cooking. I do remember seeing signs of it being banned in certain stores and in an art gallery. mostly so as not to exclude those with fragrance allergies, real and imagined. When I think more sociopathic CEO cold I think Chanel No. 19 (sorry Mr. P, I know you love it). The more gothic scents that scare many people like Poison (Esprit de Parfum version is fantastic!) and the edgier Serge Lutens, for me feel passionate and intriguing. Hello, sorry to put this in a comment but it seems youtube will not show all of your videos in chronological order from newest to oldest any longer(anyone else seeing this?) and I can't figure out how to turn it back, if it's at all possible. It means I have difficulty finding videos older than a certain date and "recent uploads' has an 11 month old clip at the top of the list. V. confused. Help?
Okay, I should have qualified: I don’t have much time for ‘generic’ horror. But if the movie is trying to do more than be frightening, then I’m happy to go along for the ride.
Most disturbing fragrance I’ve smelled was ‘Douleur!’ by Bogue, a metallic rose/cotton candy. I think it’s discontinued. Truly the smell of despair! To me it was the feeling of your heart sinking from fear. Had to wash it off!
and ive made a 100 comments about posion but its stilll relevant today and beats the flankers!!! i have yet to meet a man who doesnt nuzzle and stay in my neck when i wear it!

Thanks for watching.
I had a friend who wore Alien and it smells so strong of artificial vanilla I can’t stomach the smell of it
Oh dear!
V. confused. Help?
Oh gosh, sorry, I don't think I can help with this one. I certainly haven't changed any settings from my end.
@@Persolaise No worries! I suspect it's some "improvement" RUclips has chosen to inflict upon us...
The Pearl...... thats my fav novel lol
😊
you dont like horror? what about Bowies the Hunger!? or the good dracula or anything Argento!???
Okay, I should have qualified: I don’t have much time for ‘generic’ horror. But if the movie is trying to do more than be frightening, then I’m happy to go along for the ride.
Good evening. Would be so great to refresh Halloween scents for 2024. What say you?
Let's see what we can do...
DE PROFUNDIS!
That would have been a good one too.
I love my Bandit. Doesn’t scare me😅
Excellent.
Thank you
Thanks for watching.
Coven By Andrea Maack is Halloween to me
Oh yes! I remember thinking Coven was superb.
Most disturbing fragrance I’ve smelled was ‘Douleur!’ by Bogue, a metallic rose/cotton candy. I think it’s discontinued. Truly the smell of despair! To me it was the feeling of your heart sinking from fear. Had to wash it off!
Oooh, I’ll have to seek it out. Thanks for watching.
I love most Bogue fragrances but Douleur was more than disturbing, and very macabre.
and ive made a 100 comments about posion but its stilll relevant today and beats the flankers!!! i have yet to meet a man who doesnt nuzzle and stay in my neck when i wear it!
Oh wow - that’s quite a claim.
I wonder why Mr Elon went with “Burnt Hair”, when he could’ve rather cleverly and conveniently named his perfume “Elon’s Musk” 🤔
Who knows! 😂
🤣 Splendid idea - you should patent that name!
I’m wearing couer de noir by Beaufort London. I smell like a pirate.
Brilliant! 😊
*cough* Hemlock 🧙♀️.. *cough* Ormonde Woman 😄
Ah, yes. Good one!
Asafoetida - scary as hell.. instant dry retch 🤢 🤮
Ah! Great in cooking, though 😉
even Halloween is starting to get canceled in the U.S.
Really? Why?
@@Persolaise some schools are doing it because they consider Halloween "non-inclusive" because some students choose not to participate for whatever reason. It's woke-ism gone mad.
This is news to this American.
