I learned about hormones during pregnancy. I was always the one dumb enough to do something crazy. Skiing off-piste? Awesome! Getting into a verbal altercation with a stranger? Bring it. Car crash? No problem, I'm calm as can be. Then my first pregnancy, I had my very first panic attack trying to watch a horror movie. Normally I love rollercoasters and I love adrenalin rushes. During pregnancy, I can't. I really, really can't deal with adrenalin rushes when I'm pregnant. I completely lose my shit when I'm scared during pregnancy and I don't handle that kind of stuff. When I'm not pregnant, life goes on as normally scheduled, unless it's my kid risking their life, I'm not overprotective, I'm of the opinion that kids need to take some risks to learn. I don't scare easy and I don't notice pregnancy hormones on the whole. I didn't have a lot of pregnancy symptoms with my kids. But fear punched me in the face.
It's probably a good one. I've got lots of scars from stupid stunts that I've pulled over the years. Maybe it's not a good to take big risks while pregnant. It just seemed unfair when I couldn't go to theatres to watch the latest thriller.

I felt so deceived when I first became pregnant and started dealing with all of my pregnancy challenges. I didn't know that I would be throwing up and feeling sick my whole pregnancy, and that nausea became my new sign that it's time to eat. I didn't know that I would have to start eating something every hour to avoid sickness and that I would begin to hate food. I didn't know I would get hot and cold flashes. I didn't know acid reflux would come with a vengeance and I would feel like I swallowed a whole bottle of soap all the time. I didn't know I would hate water until the 3rd trimester, and even then it has to be ice cold. I didn't know I would get excessive saliva and need to carry around a bowl to spit in constantly for 2 weeks. I didn't know that I would have allergies my whole pregnancy and when it gets really bad you start mouth breathing and snoring at night when you didn't before. I didn't know that baby movements for me would not be very magical and actually would be mostly uncomfortable and sometimes painful. I didn't know that stretch marks might not come on your belly and might show up below your nipples or a weird place on your butt. I didn't know that if I get too upset or emotional that my body will make me throw up. I didn't know that I couldn't take any prenatals my whole pregnancy or be as natural as I wanted. Most of all I didn't know that I could reach my breaking point a thousand times and still go on. Pregnancy for me was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. I wasn't prepared. But those babies........ugh. Can't live without them.

@@starabby222 totally agree (again!😄) I'd like to add that it's also possible to have both some symptoms ánd experience the whole thing as absolutely amazing. For example, I was quite sick with morningsickness in my first trimester. I lost 5 kg, puked several times a day, but it didn't bother me at all. I still felt great mentally. I was like: yup, definitely pregnant😃😃! Joked around about it, and could often laugh about the situation, even while puking. It was annoying at times but that was about how bad the experience would get.
I just couldn't be bothered by a little puking, I mean, I was growing a human! I was going to become a mama!
And, as in most cases, the sickness disappeared at 12 weeks and all was well with me and baby. I gave birth to a 9 pound, 53 cm healthy baby (both me and my husband are very tall so that size was nothing to worry about, it was a good sign: the weight loss in the beginning hadn't affected baby in the least)

It apparently is super easy to correct, but she told me to tell any pregnant woman or mom who says this that it is not suppose to be like that at all. It doesn't matter if you've had many children, you can get this looked into, and in almost every case, completely corrected. I hope this helps anyone who didn't know.

Not trying to be rude, but I believe that is incorrect. Not every doctor is right about everything.

    • @ashleycox7922
      @ashleycox7922 3 года назад +4

@@dahliahart6 yes! Exactly. That pressure and stretching can make your pelvic floor weak and often times women like myself weren't taught about our bodies during pregnancy or how to let your body heal postpartum and to slowly strengthen that pelvic floor again. My PT said the same thing. Incontinence is common but NOT normal because we can often times fix it without surgery. I prolapsed after the birth of my 2nd baby. Prior to my prolapse I had zero knowledge about my pelvic floor and the muscles. I worked hard after her birth to do exercises reccomended by physical therapists and it got rid of many symptoms, including minor incontinence. A year after her birth, I got pregnant with my 3rd baby. I kept up those pelvic floor exercises throughout my pregnancy and my symptoms were hardly there. It was amazing. It is reccomended to see a pf physical therapist during pregnancy if you are having those issues. I gave birth. All 3 of my deliveries were vaginal, and I tore each time. 2nd degree with my first two, and 1st degree with my 3rd. The next day I started easy and slow pelvic floor exercises again. I saw a pelvic floor physical therapist 3 months postpartum who helped so much. Now I never deal with stress incontinence or most symptoms I had previously. 😁 obgyns will say different because their speciality isn't the pelvic floor muscles. Where as, pelvic floor physical therapists specifically specialize in those muscles. Whether weak or too tight. Unfortunately us women don't get proper teaching about our anatomy in that way. I wish I had known beforehand. But her comment is true, incontinence is common but NOT normal as it can typically be reversed or pretty close to it. 😁 Hope that makes sense!

The reason the gynaecologist does this is because the heart of the baby is not yet formed at 4 weeks, they cannot tell you anything at this time. It's even possible that the baby is so tiny that they can't visualise it at ultrasound. This would possibly lead to unnecessary concerns by the parents.
At 9 weeks, the baby's heart has formed and this can be seen on ultrasound. It's also possible then to hear the heart sound. This way everyone can be sure the baby is at the time being healthy and alive.

Same, I found out at about 4 weeks, but based on my last period my doctor thought I was more like 8 weeks, so I had an ultrasound the following week and they saw what looked like (they thought) a fibroid or a cyst or something. Had a bunch of bloodwork done to check my levels to see if things were still progressing (they were). Another ultrasound at around my actual 8 week mark and sure enough, there was my baby and the heartbeat. Irregular periods mess things up so much.

I have anxiety and depression and took the time to find the help and learn the skills I needed to heal and live with both in my 20's. I also went into pregnancy with a loving and supportive husband and support system. That meant for me waiting to start trying until 32 and yes it took a year to get pregnant but I knew my mental health and stability are the most important part of having a healthy baby. Being mentally healthy also meant I have been able to handle all of the ups and downs without falling into depression or having any panic attacks.
Babies are a blessing but so is mental health. It can be hard to reach out for help and it can take time, sometimes even a couple years, to learn what works for you. The hardest part will always be asking for help but it's worth it in the end.

Did you happen to have an epidural?
My husband worked with someone in nursing school a few years ago who was talking about the chemical effects of epidurals. When a woman gives birth, her body releases this 'love bonding' hormone that goes to her and baby. For whatever reason, the epidural doesn't allow this to happen. Some believe this could be a major factor in post partum depression. It's like your body didn't comprehend that the birth occured, so there is a disconnect between your empty womb and the child in front of you. I experienced this with my first child.
I've had two more children without an epidural and didn't have post partum depression after either one.
I don't know anything for sure, as I'm not a doctor or scientist, just sharing what I've heard and experienced.

Obviously women didn’t want to spend with me all night so she gave order to turn off my epidural and my labor started hour after that. Which it pretty much stopped working by then and so I gave birth feeling everything.
But it’s interesting, I never made this connection and I never heard about it! Thank you for telling me about it. I will do a research on this topic immediately! ❤️

@@shelld776 That explanation makes sense to me as well. Our bodies react to everything we do, so it's difficult for anyone to know true causation.
We've had two home births and we'll never do it any other way. Birth is scary, but pregnancy is a beautiful way to get to know your body and to experience it's greatness. If you are a believer, cling to the Creator. He made our bodies to bring forth life. People like to thank modern medicine for lower infant mortality rates, but I think it had more to do with modern hygiene practices. Tragedies happen, but it isn't the norm (if it is, that is evidence of a sick/diseased society)
Above all, if you want to get pregnant, take care of your body. If you don't already, making a commitment to cooking from scratch instead of using short cuts like Bisquick and boxed cake mix, or just going for prepared food, is an amazing decision for you health. Something I wish I would have realized earlier in life...A product being marketed and sold to you in no way guarantees it's safety. That goes for food, too. Just because a food product is on a supermarket shelf doesn't mean it is nutritious or even safe to consume. I try to steer clear of chemicals, especially in my food. Whether something is approved by the FDA seems irrelevant to me, as many things they approve haven't been around long enough to know the long term health effects. That goes for a lot of medical practices as well.
If you're blessed with a child, my advice is to be intentional in all you do. Don't fall into the trap of doing things simply because that's what everyone else does. Even if you still make the same decision as everyone else, there is power in knowing why you do the things you do. As well as knowing why you believe the things you believe.

Girl, tell me about it. The "glow" for me is nothing but crazy amounts of oil and whatever light is being reflected off of the crop rotation around my chin and jawline. Oh, and the hair growth? Yeah, it seems to be everywhere else BUT my head.

Brain fog, anxiety in 1st trimester, insatiable hunger at the end of 1st trimester, itchy bits, tiredness, breathlesness, bad skin in 3rd trimester, swollen legs, back pain and pubic bone pain and heart burn were my issues. However I had no sickness and my psoriasis is nearly cured now which I find mind blowing.

Really nice to hear that I’m not alone in some of the things that have shocked me throughout my pregnancy. I’m having my first baby in about 3 weeks!
One thing I wish from these kind of videos is that they would also talk about positive things they didn’t realize would happen when you become pregnant. It’s easy to focus on the negatives because yes it is very weird and uncomfortable, but there is so much to be thankful for during pregnancy. Here’s a couple of mine:
    1. I didn’t realize HOW happy I’d be not to have a period for 9 months (I get very rough periods and would happily take even the third trimester aches over that)
    2. I didn’t realize how special others would make me feel (probably a guilty pleasure in pregnancy, but it’s so nice to have random strangers congratulate us, have others give me a seat when there aren’t many, etc.)
    3. I planned this pregnancy so obviously I’m excited and already love my baby so much, but I didn’t realize how much love I’d feel toward this little person I haven’t even met yet!
    4. My favorite: I didn’t realize how excited my husband would be over our pregnancy. He’s the most supportive person on earth but he has really shocked me with how excited he is to be a dad in a few weeks.

I didn't know it would be a thing I could expect with all my pregnancies until I had it with my second also 😂😭😭😭

I didn't know that I'd suffer with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (all three of my pregnancies so far) and how hard that would be physically and mentally. I have always wanted to be a mom and expected to become super attached very quickly, and while every time I've been very excited and happy each time I've found out that I'm pregnant as soon as the excessive nausea and vomiting hit me at 6 weeks that just takes over my whole existence and I don't really think about anything else at all until it eases up (around 20 weeks for me).

I am happy to see someone making videos like these. I feel that so many women get pregnant for the first time and are so clueless. I was 21 when I had my first son and I had to learn everything as it was happening. The anxiety was horrible. I had HG where you vomit all throughout the day multiple times. It's the worst feeling you could imagine. I felt like I was being tortured for months. I was convinced to try for another girl since every women would tell me "every pregnancy was different" So, I tried again in hopes I wouldn't get so sick. But, here I am boy number two and had HG all over again to the point I had to leave my job, because I physically couldn't even drive a car. I feel this time around I am more prepared only because of my first pregnancy. But, have decided this isn't for me. Pregnancy is truly hard for a lot of women and I wish people were more out spoken about it. When I would talk about my experience people would try to shut me down. Idk why people want to cover up the reality of it, especially the risk involved and postpartum. It is not to scared mothers, but you educate the ones who want to learn about it before going through it. So glad social media such as RUclips and Tiktok are allowing mothers to speak about the reality of it so everyone can respect the process more, but also learn.

Great video! So many of these I didn't know, there's just so much stuff that isn't told to young women. Before I was pregnant with my first I didn't know that if you have negative blood (might be just O - not sure) you have to get a shot called rhogam around 28 weeks then again after the baby is born if he/she has a positive blood type. The reason for this is if the baby's blood mixes with yours it will cause an immune reaction with the next kid and your body will literally start attacking the baby. Before Rhogam was invited it used to be (in America at least) that before you married someone you had to get a blood test done and if your blood was incompatible they wouldn't allow you to get married because they were trying to prevent this problem. Oh the things you learn

I appreciate the honesty in this video, though. I've voiced my discomfort to other moms and get the side eye.
