    Excellent tips about ordering international. Additionally the size and weight matter, and the size matters more than the weight... in other words it will cost you a lot more to ship something larger vs something heavier. If you want to buy paper for example, you will be able to ship for a lot less if you buy a smaller pad or block than a full sheet, even if it is heavier.

    I have two tubes of Isaro, steel blue and chartreuse. The chartreuse is the same pigment marketed by Kramer as Irgazin yellow, a lovely single pigment green gold. I was not impressed with the steel blue. This range has some unusual pigments, and is useful for that. They behave well, but would not be my first choice, the Chartreuse was easier to get from Jackson’s than ordering from Kremer in Germany as the delivery charges for small items are off the scale expensive and I could add these colours to a bigger order from Jackson’s and not lose an arm or a leg. I do mix my brands a little so these fitted in ok with the right sets. IMO irgazin yellow is a good addition to any palette, a mixed green gold hasn’t got the same luminosity. Besides which a standard palette does not offer such unique colours, you have to look a bit further for the pigments that you really like.

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 года назад

      yeah, i love that color, it's PY129. it is strong, yet very transparent and lightfast. sometimes, if PY129 is not available, I can use PY150 which is a warmer version but comparable transparency and strength. Kremer is from US right? I have 2 sets of Kremer, but i haven't reviewed them yet. Sadly, I cant find a seller here who sells individual pans of Kremer, only by sets. Shipping I agree costs alot. from US to here its around 80usd, so i didnt push my order.lol

    • @lindyashford7744
      @lindyashford7744 3 года назад

      Watercolors by Allan Jay Quesada, Kremer is a German company with a branch in New York. I can order their products from a couple of art shops in the U.K. which also sell their pigments. Unfortunately postage from Germany and the US is prohibitive. 🙁 Even for relatively small items. If you enjoy their products and need replacements then getting someone in Germany or NY to bring them for you is probably easier! They are a huge pigment company and probably supply the pigments for some of the brands you are familiar with, and also supply historic pigments for the restoration experts.

    • @suzisandpiper
      @suzisandpiper 2 года назад

      @@AllanJayQuesada you could try AP Fitzpatrick in London who stock Kremer paints. They say if you tell them the specific paints you want from the Kremer Germany catalogue they will order them in. Worth seeing if they ship to your country and the charge. Otherwise they do the sets and the pigments. I love the no 1 set of whole pans.
      I’ve been intrigued by the Isaro paints and grateful for your thorough review. I especially love the little painting you do. I must say I thought the colours when dry in your painting look so full of clarity and a beautiful cool light to them. A very elegant and refined look. Of course this is reminiscent of the cooler northern countries. I checked Jackson’s only today and the Isaro line seems to have a lot more colour choices than Jacksons originally had. I’m very tempted now to try these especially your sky mix regarding the flow and the burnt Sienna and P. Grey.

    They look very nice and traditional. And the color selection looks like an (almost) perfect set for me. I love PY154 as the perfect mid yellow. Yellow ochre looks a bit greenish for me, I prefer a more reddish one. I might have swapped the orange oxide for yet another cooler red or a phthalo green/viridian. And Payne’s gray is beautifully blue and perfect for grisaille.

But I do use Daniel Smith, DaVinci (awesome perm alizarin crimson is the best really and Cerulean), M.Graham, Winsor and Newton (2) and Schminke. I don't need too much paint but my palette is a mixed one from over the years of testing. Daniel Smith is very nice but I honestly save $ by using DaVinci which is just as nice. On comparing certain colors I just would have a preference. I still have a White Nights phalogreen too. Oh and Holbein gouache of course. Great landscapes off the cuff. I've been collecting odd brands lately in small sets.. but this one just has a really big drying shift to me. I think I will pass. I will glaze on occasion but a lot of my painting is done in a single wet on wet pass so when paints fade excessively it really messes with me. I can never get as nice of a look if I have to go over it a second time. As for the color selection, I own the DS set and the Quin gold pretty much fills the spot of warm yellow, it does gorgeous warm oranges and greens. I would also much rather have brown than green since green is just so easy to mix. If I do have to give up a split primary, a single yellow is what I would choose, vs the red or blue. I would be curious to see what the trans orange would do as a mixer in place of the warm yellow.. the yellow ochre is very odd.. I like it but I've never seen one quite that shade before.

    This review made me want the try Isaro! I find Schminke pretty pricey (at least the prices here), I think Isaro is a bit cheaper? I have a personal preference for paints with honey binders so that’s a plus.
    Regarding the handcrafted/handcrafted/artisanal description, I believe that as long as the use of machines are limited (or the production is not a “factory type” manuf procedure) then they consider it handmade (ie. wood turners/carvers who use turning and cutting machines but are still traditional/artisanal). Artisans use traditional machines but is very unlike what factories use in mass production. I hope it helped clarify things a bit. 😅

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 года назад +1

      Hi Rouella. Thank you for sharing your understanding. That really makes sense. There is really a difference between a factory-level machinery than a home level set that could be often times or probably still 'manual' type mechanical type. I just wish, they had made it clearer or more visual to avoid confusion.
      .
      Regarding Isaro vs. Schmincke price, please check and compare well too. Because i believe they still have ongoing sale for Schmincke where 5ml tubes go for as low as 200+ to 300+ PHP each. In that case, Schmincke might still be a better choice. 😉🎨🙏🏻

    Thank you for another great review. The paints look so transparent, I love the look of the yellow ochre and burnt sienna, your picture looks wonderful. I’m wondering what your views are on using different brands of paints in one picture, is this ok to do? I keep seeing bits I like here and bits I like there in these reviews and now I’m wondering if I got just a few tubes of this paint from here and a few from there I could make a nice pallet. Just a thought I’m having but would like to hear your views on this. Have a nice week, stay safe and Kia Kaha.

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 года назад

      Hi Paula. Yes, the colors are more on the transparent side which allows the artist to make transparent and clean washes, so I am really happy.
      .
      About the mixing of brands to form a palette.. I dont see anything bad about that for as long as you are aware of the pigments and how a certain brand and color behaves. If the the distinct characters of each color match your needs, then the brand should not matter. For example, you are including some QOR paints and you know how speedy it flows, it may affect somehow your ways if this is mixed with a paint that your used to using. I personally usually dont mix my brands, just because im OC? haha. I have many brands and each brand has atleast 12 colors (Isaro and Blockx are my smallest artist grade sets (10 colors). OH my, both from Belgium!) and those sets usually allow me to achieve what i want in a painting. Although, yes, most brands have some really good colors or mixes like Moonglow of Daniel Smith that I cant find in other brands, but for as long as my set has Viridian or pthalo and ultramarine and any red, then i can achieve a color close to Moonglow. :) well, That's just me. hehe. Many artist mix their paints. I just have one request. if your building you mixed set, Please choose only the best pigments : all artist grade & lightfast. :)

    • @LunaBianca1805
      @LunaBianca1805 3 года назад +1

      Since nobody had answered yet, I guess I'm just going to throw in my small bit of knowledge here :3 The first thing you have to ask yourself is which type of red you want to mix. Do you want a cooler, bluish red like maybe burgundy? Or a warm red, that's more like an orange much like a vermilion? You should be able to get both with the primaries that are included in here. That yellow seems pretty mid-groundy, so if you mix that in you should get a more orange, warm type of red. And that pthaloblue looks almost like a cyan (aka the "blue" they use in printers) with that you might get a more purplish bluish colour. Other than that..m honestly, I'd just try out. That yellow ochre looks like a good candidate for a muted neutral red, the browns are already pretty reddish, so they might be worth a try, too. And with that ultra marine and/ or Payne's grey you'd probably get even more purplish/violet and probably pretty dark hues 🤔

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 года назад

      Thank you. Do you mean, you want to get a 'real red' color? I believe that is a mid red. To get that red, you may mix magenta (cool red) with a warm red like scarlet or vermilion. Red lies between warm and cool red in the color wheel, so you'll get mid red if you mix warm and cool of red.

    You mention that these paints remind you Maimeri Blu and Schmincke paints, but you still haven't made a review on them, I wonder when you will :). Also, have you tried only Schmincke Horadam or also their Akademie line? I personally love both, but the Horadam line is bigger and the colors are more clean and transparent. It's kinda like Van Gogh vs Rembrandt you know?

      Hello Didi. Yes, this reminds of Schmincke and Maimeri Blu. Im gonna the review on those brands this year. I was talking about the Horadam set since it's what i have now, but id also like to try our Akademie to compare and see the difference. I have a pans set of Horadam and it was creamy and nice. I ordered some tubes from Jackson months ago. I uploaded the unboxing, i think you'll enjoy watching it too. ☺️🎨
