Isaro ties with Schmincke as my #1. The way they rewet is gorg, the price is better than some US brands for quality and the colors on the website are laid out great. I mean the sorting capabilities there make it easy to navigate. Granulating+transparent? Check, check, there! Opaque+staining? Same! Half of the paint in my studio palette is Isaro. AND the owner replies to questions!
Those mixes are absolutely gorgeous and your chickens are super cute! So, so happy to see your name popping up in my Subscriptions again. I absolutely missed your soothing voice, gorgeous art, and informative content. Hope you're doing well!
I love love love the chickens! They are so adorbs. Haven't tried Isaro, 'cause there are so many good options that are a bit less pricey, but they look lovely!
These are watercolours do indeed have a gentle, handmade charm about them and I'm very thankful that you've introduced them in your haul to us. As a side note, I'm happy to see that there didn't accur another posca betrayal in these sketches xD
I live in Netherlands, so when I wanted to get a big palette with all of the common colors - Isaro was an easy choice: solid quality, big tubes, many colors are single pigment and most of them are easy to rewet. I added several DS, Holbein and Schminke and made my big studio palette. And I’m really happy with it for more than a year now
The chicks are adorable, I love how the blue and black pigments separate in the dark one, almost looks like the distinct feather structure in some chicken races 🥰
I don't think I'll seek out this brand right now. Sounds like they're at that awkward phase inbetween reliability and economy of price offered by larger brands and the attention to detail and fun niche colours that small-scale paint makers can provide. However, in this video the quality of the paints looks solid, and the mixes are very interesting. So I'll keep an eye out for the direction they'll be developing. Growing companies go through growing pains, and I'm always rooting for the new kids on any block.
I LOVE your long videos! I almost had a heart attack when you said "are y'all with me?" because I thought that meant the video was ending soon 😂 Lovely, thorough review, still delighted every time you post a video. Thank you for editing this footage and sharing it with us!
I love listening to your voice overs in videos in the background, I really enjoyed this video today and love the chickens I wish I would get some paints overseas but it’s hard to get my hands on them since they’re usually from Europe or America and are mostly unknown here in Asia Dx
Omg I am so happy that you are ŕeally back!!! I havent seen you post so many videos in years and its super exciting!! I love the chickens!! Love love love the chickens! Great video, thanks for sharing and much love 💜
Hahaha, sometimes we second guess ourselves. I just wanted to represent it accurately! I hope they can update their online swatches. Nothing wrong with a good black, just not what you want when you're expecting a brown :P
Finally I found someone else who dares to put more than two PR101 in their palette 😂 I’m obsessed Lovely review and lovely paints, wonder how the behave with my painting style due to the pronounced lack of movement
It's nice to see again a nice recorded swatches video 😊 It's funny to see how paint producers omit the label cobalt sometimes and sometimes they add it. Here the cerulean blue pb35 is a cobalt, and sometimes py53 is labeled as cobalt yellow when there is no cobalt inside
I enjoyed learning about Isaro Watercolors from you, I agree with the softness of their look-so pretty! I also loved watching you paint your adorable chickens with the limited brushstrokes and with the last few I was mesmerized by your beautiful brush control, your chickens seemed to flow right onto the page! You’re an amazing artist, thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Denise! So good to have you back! Isaro has been on my wish list for a while now and I really appreciate this review. For now, they will stay on my wish list, but maybe move them up a bit! 😉 They are really pretty and I like the softness. I also like the granulation in the blends, though little I paint (mostly florals) would really accommodate those granulating pigments well. However, there are lovely choices in the line! Gonna go wish a little now... 😊
Excellent review as always and the little chickens are so cute! I'll probably hold off on this brand since I love paints that have a bit more flow to them.
Your chicken sketches are absolutely adorable!!! I love them all! I really love that purple you put on your palette I’ve been looking for a color similar to replace a cotman paint I have that’s not particularly pigmented
Great review! There's nothing quite as relaxing as seeing you mix and swatch colors :D Sadly I'm at a point where I absolutely do not need more watercolors but these paints look lovely nonetheless.
Thanks for a lovely relaxing first impressions video. These are on my wishlist (being Belgian I feel I should definitely try these and hope to get some soon). I like their soft feel, but not sure how I'd use them yet (i.e. subject matter). Love the chickens, your juicy brushstrokes on the second one (black) were mesmerising! A good reminder to loosen up and something I will keep in mind and probably try soon. 😁
Lovely review of a very nice brand of watercolours. I have have four tubes so far, including a newer one called Nordman Green. Very pretty! I love your sweet chickens - my favourite is the green one. 🐔🐔🐔🐔💚
I've got a few of them and I use them a lot. The light isaro yellow (PY 154) is really the one I use more. They are easy to use and always give good mixes.
Wow this brand, Isaro would be one brand to many for me. Love Roman Szmal and paint with it daily. I have some Maimeri Blu paints for over 35 years and still paints lovely. Love your chickens. How about a sea otter? The Oregon coast has a few models.
Tried some Isaro watercolors recently and they were a bit chalky but easy to rewet and very affordable. Will selectively use some of the colors in my palette. By the way, you have the perfect voice for RUclips videos! :)
I have one paint called Eternal Summit, it is an extremely light shimmery blue aqua colour. I have seen it used to selectively add shimmer to the sky placed between the area that light would shine through the branches of a blossoming apple tree.
This limited brushstroke exercise for the chickens is blowing my mind - I might have to try it! I really appreciate your attention to detail, and this was super illuminating. I've seen a few things about Isaro, but they havent quite gotten that high on my wish list yet - I think this kind of confirmed that I should maybe wait a bit, as I'm trying to limit my new paint purchases to once per year, and my next one is probably already set!
Really great video! I hope everything is alright at your end and i/we are always happy seeing new watercolor videos from you!!☺️ by the way, the colors did look really nice and its always so satisfying to watch a pallette getting poured, even more if you see the brand for the first time and theyre so nicely to pour like this ones! Realy nice to watch and informative video as always😁
Oooh I love isaro. I have a few of their colours and ordered them direct. The customer service emailing was superb when I had questions about their pigments. I bought indigo, Nordman green, steel blue and Payne’s grey as the pigments used are supposed to be more lightfast than other mixes for those colours. What I will say is their indigo is more like Payne’s grey and vice Versa.
The chickens are so charming! I need to figure out how to do looser watercolor sketching. I have a tendency to get caught up in the details and even in my sketchbook try and put each individual fur direction and way too fussy of details and I lose that spontaneous watercolory feel.
I remember another couple of artists, although I cannot remember who just now, explaining that in their slanted palette wells, they put the pigment at the top of the slant so that when the water runs down in the deep end of the well, the pigment is diluted and it's easier to pull diluted pigment from there and keep the undiluted pigment at the top for when they need stronger pigment. If I have explained the situation clearly enough, any thoughts on that? Why or why not would that be a good idea? I'm getting ready to fill a new palette like the one you demonstrate with, and I would love to know the best practice for filling those slanted wells.
I do this. It helps keep the pigment cleaner, and it's just easier to control the dilution of the paint, especially if I just need a small amount. I also can just paint right from the well without using the mixing area, unless I need a larger amount of paint. And with flat wells I just put my paint to one side of the well, I do not fill the entire well.
It just comes down to preference. I don't like reaching over the paint to get to the diluted mixture. I paint relatively small, so I can still dilute in the top of the well without issue.
If you want a good nickel yellow use the qore one I find even the schmincke and sennelier ones to dirty for my liking and knowing your perfectionism; if this palette is more Opaque M Graham's nickel yellow may cover that and is a good fit binder wise given they too are honey based; if you want a more translucent one the version of Qor is the best Ive seen sofar.
I love the colorful chickens! My daughter liked the Payne’s gray (blue) one best :) I know it’s not as on brand for you, but I love watching you paint!
I'd love to be able to make videos of just me painting! Sadly, they don't do very well, so they're usually attached to other topics. Here's to hoping I can branch out more in the future!
That certainly is a weird looking van dyke brown 🤔 great review and video! Isaro is a brand I would love to try out, but for the price I feel like there are just better and more reputable paint brands out there, you know?

I really enjoyed how you swatched these paints. I found it helpful to see how the paint moves and blooms. Thanks for sharing!
