Kristy you are so lovely. I asked for a “it’s just paper” brush when you were offering to send out art supplies to people in need and you sent me the whole set and your palette. You were one of the people who inspired me to pick up a brush and start watercoloring and this gift means so much to me. Your palettes colours are so perfect. They activate so easily and every single colour is exquisite. I did not realise how badly I needed a neon yellow in my set. I honestly think the colour selection is perfect. You are an angel on earth. Your brushes are the best brushes I have ever owned. If I could only use one brush it would be your it’s just paper dagger. I am so excited to buy your stamp set. Thank you so much for bringing watercolour into my life. You have given me something that brings me so much joy.
Kristy is a delight to watch!!! So happy for you that Kristy gifted you her watercolor supplies!!! A dear girl and a big heart ❤️ Happy painting! From a California Gramma ❤
This is the response, from Alina Gallo, to my inquiry. “You are absolutely right, the Stil de grain, light is very unusual, and does have a material texture. I am not sure if you noticed, but it even smells a bit like herbal tea. This is a very natural plant based pigment made from real buckthorn berries, and it will not behave like an ochre or a raw sienna. While it has a unique acid yellow hue, it does not mix well. We selected this color for the yellow range in the Naturale 3 palette for its unique hue and origin. Our Naturale collection has many yellow earth and siennas, and this Stil de grain light is unlike any of the natural yellows that we have encountered. If this is boring feel free to skip this paragraph! I'd love to give you some background on this pigment. Stil de grain, light is the second most expensive pigment in the palette due to the complex process and sheer quantity of plant matter needed to create it. The plant berries are steeped in a lye, then precipitated with alum to create a translucent yellow “lake” pigment. Different hues can be reached by the addition of tin, copper or iron salts. The temperature also has an effect on the resulting color: this lemon yellow lake is obtained at 50°C. We completely understand that you are finding it a difficult and impractical color. It was a strong choice to include such an eccentric pigment. The Naturale 3 is one of our most unique palettes. Thank you again for your email and taking the time to let us know your experience. Best regards, Alina”
I find myself loving gritty natural options in some instances….primarily landscape or when painting succulents in pots. These gritty sheer colors are absolutely stunning when one wants to give the impression of stone, terracotta or the something similar on paper. I also have glazed with them for added depth and effect.
I truly love my A Gallo watercolors. I find them beautiful, graceful, consistent, and calming. I love the scent of Rosemary when I open the tin. I love the transparency, every color and the lack of toxic substances. I enjoy the shades that are a whisper of intensity and the historical aspects of the colors. I enjoy that I know which colors give a punch and those that speak quietly. I find A Gallo watercolors to have the widest range of communication right from my palette without having to either dilute or intensify. I have 3 favorite brands of watercolors, and A Gallo is in that group!
Ok, here is a guess at a few of your unknown colors. Reor Fionz looks like morellone (PR101), Zircomo is Zirconium, Poadia is raw sienna Badia, Epidnt is Epidote, which they do not seem to have now. Maybe they substituted Verdaccio? Glad you like these paints better now. I think they are fantastic and I love the company ethos.
Roman Black Earth made with PBK11 is a granulating black. It's the only black pigment I use. It can be mixed with other colors to make granulating grays. Beautiful.
I have A Gallo naturals 36 which are wonderfully for the English countryside where I live I also have the signature 24 set and the 48 set so I love them
Kristy, you rock!!! This was so interesting... and I'm not even finished viewing it all!!! I had to break to sneak a peak at your 48 empty BEAUTIFUL watercolor palette from the Amazon link... just couldn't wait ... bought it !!! Thanks also for sharing your gifts with a young lady who commented!!! Haven't painted for over a year... I have to begin again!!! Thank you for your encouragement and persistent joy!!!🎉😂❤ With love, from a California Gramma ❤
They like lots of water. I had one I seriously didn’t understand and wrote to A Gallo. I received a personal email from A Gallo herself, explaining the color and pigment. I’ll find it and share it with you all too!
Yes ! To get the most out of these paints, I have found that you really have to saturate them first, then wait several minutes before dipping your brush in.
Hullo Kristy, I contacted A.Gallo before I purchased any paints. I would rather make my own greens so I ordered extra yellows and blues too, I added a couple of other colors so I had a set of 14 paints and I love them! I may order their SAP Green or/and Forrest Green and I want to get the YLN MN Blue, but it is pricey! Glad you have given these another chance and recognize these amazing paints!
I love A. Gallo paints and I use them for my fashion art... One of my favorite combinations is A. Gallo's Perylene Maroon and Holbein's HW370.... YUMMY. I love the way they work and spread. I find them very forgiving and fun!
Kristy, you absolutely ROCK in my (still) beginner watercolour world!! I am now in possession of both your brush sets, your full palette, your Art for Joy’s Sake Journal and am waiting for your beautiful 48 pan empty palette!! I am SO ready!! I have loved A Gallo paints for a long time and am almost ashamed to say I have almost ALL of their colours. I am so happy you had the opportunity to visit Assisi and experience its spirituality. Thank you for this AWESOME video!! And I agree, the NATURALE palette was not the best choice, especially for someone like you! A colour lover!! Here’s some help: EO Riorio Should be SARTORIO Red Zircomo Should be: ZIRCONIUM Blue The RiorFionze is actually: MORELLONE I hope these were helpful to you. Thank you so much for ALL the JOY JOY and more JOY ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🤗❤️ Edit: spelling 🙄
@@KristyRice I can empathize with that, which is why I have your beautiful empty floral palette in my Amazon shopping cart. I usually prefer lighter, brighter plastic palettes but I saw your colorful floral one which is much friendlier than the serious black ones that I had to have it.🙄😊
Your new palette is gorgeous. And I love the stamps...if I had not already swatched all of my colors I would be buying them!! I can understand how you felt about A Gallo. I ordered the 48 color set first, so I loved them from the beginning.
Hi Kristy! Your video is very timely for me. I just unwrapped my A.Gallow Naturale Set of 24 yesterday, the day you released this video. How's that for synchronicity? My first palette from A. Gallow was the Signature Set of 24 & that's the one I would recommend to those wanting to start out with A.Gallow paints. Lovely colors! This Naturale set was kind of 'meh' for me - a LOT of the colors are just variations of the same pigment! But I haven't painted with it yet so maybe it will grow on me. Love the painting you did with them! Here is what I think some of your colors are: I have an NR9 Rose Madder so maybe that's your "NR31"? It was in my palette right before Ercolano Red. I also have a PBr8 Green Umber. PY43G is Gold Ochre. "Podia" is Raw Sienna Badia PY43. I think others have already ID'd Zirconium, Morrelone, & Slate Gray. I also have Copper Blue (fabulous color!), Lapis Lazuli, & Indigo in my set. Third, I ordered Kolbie's second book & recently rec'd the first one because I decided to start there. I'll eventually get her third also! Haven't worked through them yet but I think I'm really going to like them. And last, I love love LOVE your palettes. I bought them all! I just recently put my Da Vinci paints in the large Botanical one but may switch those out for Sennelier, I haven't decided for sure. I hope you make some more 48 pan palettes because having unique palettes allows me to easily identify the paints I have. Thank you, Kristy!
I use the gritty textures for landscape, rocks, mountains, tree trunks, fences etc, anything that you want to seem like it's a bit rough. I've been in love with Alina's paints since I got my first set. I've slowly collected them and now have around 50 of them, including the Naturale 3 palette, which is beyond beautiful for anything that needs to have "luminance" in the painting.
@@KristyRice can be yep, or just mix one of the gritty colours in with one that isn't to get the texture in the mix. I've also found that the gritty ones have a better pigment payoff if I've rewetted them for a few minutes first and got a stickier top layer.
I so relate to your thoughts on the Natural palette. I have two smaller palettes I'd bought earlier, and they were lusciously pigmented. I loved them. My husband bought me the Natural palette, and I was so underwhelmed. I think it will be wonderful for muted landscapes.
I bought the natural 1, especially for the muted tones. Some of them just need a bit more time with a drop of water on them to properly rewet. It's in their nature I suppose. Handmade would never be the same as industry products. I always achieved beautiful results with them.
This is so awesome. I am currently waiting for my A Gallo order of individual colors to arrive as I am building a handmade watercolor palette of different brands also using your large BEAUTIFUL tin! ;) I have to get that stamp set! thanks for the video! (Let me take a stab at the color names. NR31 is Dragons Blood; Zircomo is Zirconium Blue; PY43G is Gold Ochre; Jardín TE is Jarosite. Eorio=Sartorio Red? Rior Fiorz= Morrelone. PBr8b=Cyprus Brown Umber? Poodia is Raw Sienna Badia. No idea what Epindt is..Indigo Green? Ha, that was fun)
Hi Kristy! I believe what you have as "Zircomo" is Zirconium blue, and your "Rear Fonz" is Morellone, no idea what "Eo reoreo" could be though😄 I love your videos, you got me into watercolor!
I’ve spent the last year and a half collecting A. Gallo paints and absolutely love them. Throw in a few Daniel Smiths and Mashas handmade watercolors….mmmm….so good!!
Mijello Mission Gold Watercolors are my favorite watercolors coz of the rich colors since I do colorful illustration so I'm not sure if A. Gallo paints are for me but they do look pretty & I love the story behind them
I found them beautifully pigmented. I don't have the natural. I have the 48. I have a mijello set. I do like them a lot, but the a gallo is just from packaging to homemade everything. Even the pigments/names are written by hand on the half pan, a swatch card printed on arches paper. It's just a next level experience.
Hi, great information! For the light granulating ones, they would work very well for landscapes. For the shear non granulating, those would work well in portraits. And any of the shear ones will allow bulding up slowly and be great for detail work.
How delightful that you revised your opinion, makes you and your professionalism even stronger! Admitting a change of opinion so gracefully is sadly a rare event in most humans. Would these A. Gallo handmades be close to what Old Masters used in their work? Happy painting from southern France 💕
Always love your videos and inspirational message. I have to ask, is that a new cats tongue brush you are using? A travel cats tongue brush? I have all of your brushes and love, love, love them, if this is a new brush you are using, I must have. Thank you so mush Kristy for all that you do for us. I can get so discouraged at times with my painting, but all I have to do is put on one of your videos and it lifts my spirit.
I have never had the A Gallo because it is so very far out of my price range. But from looking at your swatches I can honestly tell you that that is a malachite that I would love to have since malachite is one of my very favorite colors. I will have to keep your list of pallette colors in mind so that I can save and save and save up for that once I managed to get my m Graham paints😊, and oh my goodness that incredibly beautiful book is now on my birthday and Christmas wish list.
I bought this set as a Christmas gift for myself…who else 😅. I too was yawning 🥱 as I swatched them. Too many earth tones and not enough greens and blues. I am waiting for Jackson’s to have a sale because as you know, these are not cheap. I’ll continue to watch your demo and see what colors you selected ❤
Those "gritty paints" are perfect for landscapes for lazy people like me 😂. These paints do all the work because they already have the texture and uneven spread included that is necessary to create interest in landscapes like in rocks, mountains, distant grasses, foliage, shrubbery... So couple brush strokes of grit and it's all there, no fuss necessary 😁.
Oh no! Kristy you've done it again. I love handmade watercolors... well to be honest I love paint. I'm supposed to be painting more, buying less. A Gallo wasn't on my list because I have wonderful neutrals from KWarts Creation and then you show me these. Yikes! Gorgeous. I've been working on light and I love Kolbie so thank you for letting me know about that. ❤ I had
that blue is Zirconium. I believe that earth tone is Badia - raw sienna Badia, that one you think is a raisin color could be Nottoro - which is one of their best colors IMO. Morellone is like a caput mortem - PR101 and I love their Pietra Rosa. I think that NR31 could be Dragon's blood if it is red.
OMG! When you said that "These colors just look-----natural." That tone of voice is the same one a woman who was doing checkout at Kroger when my friend and I with freshly dyed hair showed up at 1 in the morning to buy some emergency extras for a wedding we were catering that was to happen the next day. Bride had added twenty more people to the guest list and didn't tell us until the day before. OMG. Anyway, my hair was plum colored, and my friend's was russet. The checkout lady looked at our hair, and she said to me, "I love your hair." She looked at my friend. "Your's looks natural." Same tome of voice--slightly disappointed but not disparaging. You made me laugh aloud and nearly spit coffee. Also, I'm not Catholic, but St. Francis is one of my favorite saints. Also St. Hildegard von Bingen.
I just got the signature 24 set from a gallo, i am not sure what i think about it yet as i have only done swatches so far. I have all Kolbies books, they are wonderful.
Hi kristy. I'm brand new to watercolor and love your channel. I've seen a lot of duo chrome watercolors that look really fun but I'm having a hard time finding a brand or set that's worth the money. Do you have any recommendations? Also looking forward to my classes from your paints and brush purchases
I have a swatch sheet that fits exactly inside the naturale palette. It has all of the color names listed in French and English and I painted a swatch in each spot and added the pigment numbers. It could help you with a few of your unlabeled and mixed up colors. I would post a picture if it would let me. I love A. Gallo and I absolutely love the naturale muted earthy colors. They paint the most gorgeous of landscapes. I’m the opposite of you in that a lot of the time I think less color is better. I don’t like bright, bold, and garish. I just finished painting a two page spread of soft pastel and muted colored flowers and butterflies. They are so beautiful and soft in color!
Kristy, where can I buy the swatching stamp set? I can’t find it. I’ve purchased your items through Amazon but can’t seem to find the swatch set. I have the 24 set of A Gallo paints and I really like them. Unfortunately, I probably won’t be adding to my collection as my dough is very low. 😂
@@KristyRiceThere are 16 new colours and two sets with 5 colours in each. One set is plant pigments the other is natural earth (minerals I guess). They are called watercolour paint but are a fusion of watercolour and gouache.
In the realm of The More You Know....... every time you say the word boop, I do a double-take. It takes me back to growing up a couple of doors down from my bestie, whose mom used the word boop as a substitute for the word fart.
you could mix the gritty ones with more intense tones to give them granulating properties. I do that with Potters Pink to get more texture in my portraits (depending on what the goal for the painting is, I prefer skin that's not completely smooth). I also like a bit of granulation when panting air and atmosphere. I do like layering a lot, so I like sheer colours... though I also love the contrast with more opaque ones. I don't know what to do with green Earth and similar colours... I like the colour in theory, but even compared to the softer greens like viridian (i.e. no phthalos) it's just looks weak and faulty. I still haven't found anything I could combine it with. still when I see in in a brand I am always temped to buy it again because it just looks so nice on swatches haha
Love the swatching stamps! It is cool that you gave this brand a second chance. However, if you (or anyone else) do not like something, then you (or others) just don't like it. I think that is a terrible reason for ppl to "hate on" you or get upset/angry, etc with you. Different artists have different preferences, techniques, palettes, etc.
NR31 is Dragon’s Blood. EoRuorio might be Sartorio Red? Zircomo is Zirconium, as others pointed out. Reor Fiona is actually Morellone 😂. The PY43 is obviously not Moroccan yellow ochre or French Ochre Sahara, so it must be one of their other 5 PY43 paints. PY43 is natural iron oxide.

Would these A. Gallo handmades be close to what Old Masters used in their work?
Happy painting from southern France 💕
I’m not sure about the old master’s question honestly in terms of how the paint was formulated. The pigments however I’m thinking yes :)
Indeed I meant the colours, not the formulations 😘
Always love your videos and inspirational message. I have to ask, is that a new cats tongue brush you are using? A travel cats tongue brush? I have all of your brushes and love, love, love them, if this is a new brush you are using, I must have. Thank you so mush Kristy for all that you do for us. I can get so discouraged at times with my painting, but all I have to do is put on one of your videos and it lifts my spirit.
It is a prototype for my upcoming travel set!
I can hardly wait for the travel set, I know it will be great. @@KristyRice
Fantastic review, such a good video ☺☺☺
Glad you enjoyed it!
Arancione means strong orange.
Indeed! So love!!
The malachite is indeed one of the loveliest I’ve used!
So glad it wasn’t just me!!
@@KristyRice I have to say that the Copper Blue is my fav next to the Lapis Lazuli and from there it went downhill 🤣
I’m having a sensory thing with them:( I’ll get there I’m sure
I also love Kolbe s books
I had
You bet!!
I have her book, highly recommend it. Great landscape. Lol, wish I could afford these paints.
Wonderful!
that blue is Zirconium.
Oh gosh thank you!! The handwriting on those pans was mystifying me!!
Lean into it :) And yes to allll of Kolbie’s books!
Yess I think you will love a Gallo paints!
Hi kristy. I'm brand new to watercolor and love your channel. I've seen a lot of duo chrome watercolors that look really fun but I'm having a hard time finding a brand or set that's worth the money. Do you have any recommendations? Also looking forward to my classes from your paints and brush purchases
I’m working on a video for that!
Can't wait
The organization here is very chaotic!!! Lol😂
You’ve stepped inside my braaaaiiiinnnnn!!!!
@@KristyRice I love me some chaos!!!
I had that too and tossed it mistaking :(
??? Rerun question! Do you have a pre-printed list of the paints you selected for your palette? I can’t get over how gorgeous they are? Thank you!
I'm planning on getting their botanical set once is is back in stock.
It’s awesome!
Stamp set is launching April 15th :)
Would be interested in your take on Horadam Naturals???? 👀 A Gallo fabulous!😊
Is it a specific set?
@@KristyRiceThere are 16 new colours and two sets with 5 colours in each. One set is plant pigments the other is natural earth (minerals I guess). They are called watercolour paint but are a fusion of watercolour and gouache.
I have not tried a.gallo paints though I would LOVE to. of the colours I've seen though my fave would be the Hokkaido.
Good choice!
Your going to love them😊
I really am enjoying them!
Love you Kristy! Where did you get swatch stamp? Did you post and I missed it?
They are of my own design and launch officially on April 15th :)
Oh wonderful! In your store? I can't wait to order one, I just love it! Thank you! ❤
In the realm of The More You Know....... every time you say the word boop, I do a double-take. It takes me back to growing up a couple of doors down from my bestie, whose mom used the word boop as a substitute for the word fart.
Omg!! Boop lol!!
@@KristyRice :)
I ordered that naturale also and it wasn’t my favorite, the signature set is!
I now love it when combined with my new bright selections!
Is that a dagger I see before me!? Handle toward my hand………I mean, is that a Kristy Rice DAGGAR travel brush!!!???!! I want!!!!!!
It’s is!! Prototype only but coming this year, probably Fall.
@@KristyRice ooooh, Kristy Rice! Sign me up!!!! ❤❤❤
Love those stamps girl
Thank you!!
Where can I get your swatching stamp set?
Amazon, April 15th!
You just sold me on the book by Kolbie! Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it!
I'm trying to find your stamps Kristy, are the available?
Amazon, April 15th!
Just was thinking - those shear granulating ones, would be nice to use for animal fur too.
Oh good point!!
@@KristyRice Especially for rocky cliffs, dirt and things such as that.
Hi Kristy. I don't find the link for the stamp. Is it possible to have it ? Thank you.
They haven’t launched yet :) April 15th !
@@KristyRice thank you😊
you could mix the gritty ones with more intense tones to give them granulating properties.
When will the steps be available?
April 15th!!
@@KristyRice so long to wait
Love the swatching stamps! It is cool that you gave this brand a second chance. However, if you (or anyone else) do not like something, then you (or others) just don't like it. I think that is a terrible reason for ppl to "hate on" you or get upset/angry, etc with you. Different artists have different preferences, techniques, palettes, etc.
Agreed :)
I want the swatching stamps. I did not see them on your site.
Coming April 15th
thank you@@KristyRice
Love you Kristy. I bet you will love them
I did!!
Yes, will redeem itself
Indeed!
Omg thank you!!!!
@ Welcome. I couldn’t figure out the other, though. Much to cryptic for me 😂.
Your zircomo is zirconium blue.
Ahhhh! I’m wondering if the pans were handwritten in Italian?
Kristy, Would you please include the Gallo paint company website information for all of us to go check out ❓❓❓❓❓
PRETTY PLEASE ????
RUclips is crabby about how many outgoing links I have so just Google A Gallo and you'll find their site quickly :)

Thank you Sunshine.
I’ve been waiting for you swatch stamps. No link yet 😢
Launching April 15th
I would love it to try and paint with but at this point in life I just can't afford it
How can I order your stamps for swatching?
Amazon, April 15th :)
Was super disappointed with a gallo. Prefer my Daniel Smith
I actually understand that :)
Zirconium or zirconio
Thank you!
