I want to thank you. I suffer from depression and find it near impossible to create when I'm in these phases but watching your videos helps me keep the want to create alive. I'll get through this and be putting color on paper again. In the meantime this is inspiring and comforting.
I just visited a little shop in Sedalia, Missouri. I met the owner who makes hand made watercolors. After talking with her for a while, she painted a little sample for me and sent me home with my own sample to play with. I told her that her paints reminded me of something Kristy Rice would like. Her eyes twinkled and she said Kristy had, indeed, tried and liked her paints. I searched for hand made paints and yes, indeed, Artistic Isle was featured and was the number one recommendation that you said to try out hand made paint. So cool!
My favorites are Poems about You (I have a large collection). I’ve been intrigued by the 31 Purplefish. They are difficult to get, but as long as you’re on their email list, she sends out notices as to when she has them available. My other favorite is Pfieffer Art Supply. Hers are quite nice.
I find that if I start refreshing the 31 Purple Fish site 10 minutes before the release is supposed to happen I have pretty good luck getting everything I want because stuff tends to go up slightly early.
When you mentioned East and Rory on Etsy when I started painting watercolor 9 months ago, I tried to find some on Etsy and I am a convert. I have a travel set of Van Gogh, White Nights, Holbein samples and Mei Lan tubes that have never been used or swatched, because I tried handmade. I tried 10 Etsy vendor plus 1 eBay natural paints. And I never went back. Addison&Sedgwick, KoZPaints and MrsHandPainted on Etsy are my faves. I have 1 palette of 100, plus 4 - 15 mini tins plus another 100 colors that I did not like or did not work (grab bag addict). I have been practicing and the handmade paints made me paint better. On any paper! Thank you for inspiring me all those months ago. Now, I need to learn to draw, lol!
31 Purplefish and Poems About You have been my jam for quite some time now. I love giving my money to these small businesses! They put so much love and care into their paints and you get the most amazing and unusual convenience colors from them, too. Case in point: Poems About You's Azo Green. It's the most spectacular color I've ever used in watercolor, hand's down.
I have only tried 31 Purplefish, but they are beautiful paints. I have 2 palettes, and I’m going to need to make a third for the grab bags I recently ordered. They’re so fun!
I just started making my own watercolors…..it’s been fun…..foraging my own backyard fire pit and wild non edible berries etc in my yard for pigments….it’s fun fun
you HAVE to try prodigal sons, Michael Harding and Stone ground as well as Beam paints. Prodigal sons is like Kermer pigments, but more concentrated and their customer service is bar none SO amazing! They also have very rare and historical pigments like Genuine naples yellow as well as lead white. Greg the owner, is just SUCH a wonderful person! Stone grounds pans are like little gems! and highly concentrated their genuine lapis lazuli is INSANE its like oil or acrylic paint almost! Beam paints are highly concentrated and modern earthy. Michael Harding, their watercolors are very much like their oil paints in that they both are quite similar in pigment load (which is so much) and consistency. The flesh tones you get from their french yellow ochre, rose madder and warm white are Bougerou like! so lifelike.
@@KristyRice enjoy :) just a heads up Greg is taking some time off due to some health issues but in April he will be back in full force with watercolors :) but do give Michael Harding a ring, like you I started off with winsor newton, (I still have old winsor newton stock from 1999. and a cirrus kolinsky sable brush from back then that still points very well and holds ABUNDNCE of color! i used to have a series 707 kolinsky sable size 14 but it was just too big for me and I didnt paint THAT big with kolinskys so I gave it to a friennd after it was so hard to sell. .) but they have dwindled much and their only viable colors to me are Aurelion, Rose madder genuine, Yellow ocher and cerurelean blue. Michael Harding is what Winsor newton used to be. also Della magna's colors are chefs kiss epecially their fra angelico blue OMG !!!
Hello Kristy … I love your videos. I have learned so much from you and it’s always encouraging when I put you on my TV set to see all the beautiful colors and techniques that you use watercolor is new to me so I’m loving it I bought your brushes and your paint set .love love love again. Thanks so much.
The one I got most excited was the Wallace Seymour watercolors. I like more natural looking colors and lots of movement so... It seems to be perfect for me. But I got curious about Masha’s Watercolor. I hate granulation and I like my watercolors very transparent, but granulation without texture? I'm curious and might try.
I love Addison & Sedgwick handmade paints. And I just purchased some from Beam that I am excited to try and was glad to support a small Indigenous brand.
Girl, you make me smile & laugh at times. Awesome review. Many of these watercolor are just awesomely looking & I never knew of them; of course I’m not a true artist, only a wannabe. I always love your art & wanna be like you when I grow up😂🤣
I'd so been hoping to seem Beam Paints included, since I saw those for sale on your website! I was turned on to them from a FB group, and I LOVE them. I have about 6 actual paint stones, and have a few of the collection sample cards. I've used those samples to paint over 40 holiday cards, and a couple of gifted paintings, and am just running low on my favorite colors. I am, however, a beginner, with little to compare them to, lol. I still have a difficult time rewetting to get enough paint, lol. I love the color options, and how they've come out. I'd love to hear/see review of them on your channel!
I love Designs by Rachel Beth but also love ArtisticIsle watercolor. Both sellers package their items so beautifully. While ArtisticIsle is more expensive she does give great little gifts to say thank you. I am absolutely jealous of the paint palette you have from ArtisticIsle watercolor. It is beautiful but I can’t afford $175. I wish I had saved my money from my other items I bought from her to buy that one.
I love 31 Purple Fish paints as well, currently I have 74 of her fabulous colours in my palette. Artistic Isle paints are also so much fun an I love the limited run mini ceramic palettes she does that she also fills with paint.

I have one set of handmade watercolors. They come in a little wooden palette. A friend bought them and didn’t like the granulation. The colors are dark and muted. With the exception of 2 metallics. I wish there was a peach/beige in the palette. But I do love the grays, dark greens, and muted purple.
It's so cool that there are organic watercolors and non plastic palettes! 👍 I haven't been watching you long, but I know you collabed with Sarah Renae Clark, who also collabed with Josie Lewis. I don't think she makes her travel palette, but it is a collection of her favorite rainbow colors. 🌈 She loves watercolor art even though she is known for her chunky art! 🌊 Another artist I am aware of is Deborah Muller, who is known for her coloring books. She is creating her own watercolors to sell on her etsy shop. I'm just helping you find more to add to your collection! 😉😂

They are definitely hard to get, I lusted after them for 2 years before I actually managed to get any but they are worth the hype. I think her Etsy releases are probably easier to purchase from them her shop releases but it is definitely possible to get shop release colours if you are on right at launch time.
I’m happy to provide any additional formation regarding lightfastness. Due to our watercolors being pigment based most colors are of excellent lightfastness. 🥰 hope this helps.
Lots of brands are starting to list pigment and lightfastness info in their product descriptions. I find that for shops that don’t most are willing to give the information if you message them privately.
I have a question… Recently, I bought a whole slew of van Gogh, watercolor tubes. I added them to a new pallet and left that open to dry. It has been four days and they’re still a little sticky/cool damp to the touch. Is this normal? I also noticed that some of them have separated from the binder. I assume that will be just fine, but even after stirring them in the well they still separate. Is it possible? I got them on sale because they are just simply old? Lol thank you for your help. Anybody who has an answer.
That is normal for some paint formulations and/or brands. Some are just softer and never fully cure. The separation is somewhat common across the board. Nothing to really worry about and will disappear as you rewet the paint before using :)

I think her Etsy releases are probably easier to purchase from them her shop releases but it is definitely possible to get shop release colours if you are on right at launch time.
I may not have left my heart in San Francisco, but I left some money in France!!! 😊

Unfortunately it looks like 31 Purple Fish may not be producing anymore :(
I believe she is just pausing production on tubes but her pans are still available :)
Handmade watercolors make me nervous because I'm never really sure about the light fastness!
I’m happy to provide any additional formation regarding lightfastness. Due to our watercolors being pigment based most colors are of excellent lightfastness. 🥰 hope this helps.
I get that. Reach out to the makers and they will definitely get you more info.
Thanks ladies 😌 I appreciate the both of you 😊💖
Lots of brands are starting to list pigment and lightfastness info in their product descriptions. I find that for shops that don’t most are willing to give the information if you message them privately.

Hi from uk can I buy your brush set in the uk ?
You can from kristyrice.com or search your Amazon :)
Baohong and Meeden are absolutely the same paper repackaged.
I want them all😊😅
