Unfinished wood is a Japanese style for furniture, woodwork. It is an artistic style. The box is typical of Japanese storage boxes.
The wood is like an antique bento set my friend gave me. This style wood ages well.
It is good to hear this as there are negative comments on amazon about the 'cheap, falling apart box' and 'not worth the money' because of the box. and now I hear these comments addressed on this video too. 🙂
I got these for my 60TH Birthday in April from birthday money…pure indulgence all I have done so far is stroked the box…🤣🤣🥰
LOL! It's now 5 months later - have you opened the box yet?
@@zeldacheri I’ve swatched them but building myself up to using them…🥰🤣
I just bought these i cant wait for them to come in the mail talk about true indulgence lol
The wood is probably paulowina wood. Which is very common in japan. Its light, strong and used to package, usually, very fancy objects like tea ceremony items.
Thank you for sharing. Seems logical, but I learned something new either way.
I love the intensity of the pigments! Excited for you and enjoying your journey. Thanks Kristy!
You are so welcome!
I love the Japanese Paints and was so happy to find Va this video. I have had these for a year and did my own experimenting, and I was Ok but now I have a better understanding of how best to use these! Thank you for always teaching me in My Kitchen! You are an amazing teacher, person, Mom, and Artist! Thanks, Karen Dirmish, learner 0:14 0:14 0:14 0:14
Always happy to hear from you Karen!
I LOVE this paint, using it feels so smooth and rewarding! I've done a lot of paintings with these and 100% believe in them for any type of use, especially when creating intensely colored works and blending colors on paper.
Loving all these colours, girl. I’m feeling it.. it’s vibing.. them colours are POPPIN’! Love it.
So glad!
Kristy always inspires ! Her paints and brushes are the BEST.
😘😘😘
I ordered this set off a fb ad……. Got charged, but haven’t seen the paint yet, praying I wasn’t scammed by a 3rd party. Loving your free flow work, and gives me permission to just start laying paint down without a “plan” which has caused me a lot of procrastination in getting going. I love your teaching style, fast and friendly!
Nope! You’re all good :) I’ve been experimenting with ads over the last three weeks :) I
Oh my gosh!!!! Something to save for 😊!!!
GANSAI TAMBI is such a lovely type of watercolor paint…. Just watching the water in the golds can be mesmerizing! 🤍🤍🤍🤍
😂 I bought this set for the same reason😂 Oh my gosh, I loved how cute it was when I opened it. Sadly, it still sits untouched (due to health problems) so I can't wait to finally run my brush through them!
I pray that your time to use them is very soon!!
@@KristyRice thank you! 💜
Love the colours
Get well soon ❤💐🍀
I hope you are fully recovered and happily dipping into this set and others and creating lots of art.
I especially love the dark shadows and the graphite.
I wish I could afford this. It’s so beautiful!
You made me wanna go see the price tag. It’s a lot of paint and beautiful colors for that price.
But OUCH! I won’t be bringing it home.
The Art Nuevo set is gorgeous!
And affordable.
@@RendaJaneyeah $240 😬😬 but it is a gorgeous set, presentation and all.
Me to I've been drooling since it came out❤
@@underthesearoses8619 Jill has my brain at that point where I’m trying to convince myself that I really need it. 😂
I used afterpay on Amazon. I had to have it!
I seriously have an Amazon list for art supplies I am lusting after. I added this on the list. Now when my hubby asks me what I want for Mother’s Day/bday/Christmas he has SO many things to pick from :) Gurl…I don’t want jewelry or flowers…I need more of your brushes!! That big dagger is such a tease in this video. I have the smaller ones and I LOVE them! I can’t wait for your other set of brushes to be available on Amazon again. *pouting* 😊
Hey Kristy I’m a newbie beginner to the arts and watercolour world - you popped up on my you tube feed and I am so thrilled that you🥰 did, woohoo! I love your joyful outlook on life, your energy is so effervescent, bubbly and infectious…Now- Kure Take paints are the bomb to me…I love them and I do not even own any😂YET🎉 I keep drooling at the moment…I was introduced to them by Diane who is an ardent user of KT and WN and a whole bunch of others and to now see your glorious set KT arrive - OMGoodness what a thrill - sooo happy for you …I have been watching heaps of your videos…almost heaps, I love how you are so easy to listen, easy to follow , patient ,so informative…don’t you dare stop talking….love the chatter. Just love your tutorials for beginners, your beginner charts are cool, sketching etc- my bug bear are the leaves…love your tutorial on leaves, btw I am following you from New Zealand- its 10.30 pm Monday . Have a great week ahead. 🥝🇳🇿💚
Last night when I was practicing leaves, I got into a peaceful or comforting zone. It was great! Oh and btw, I’m drooling over that massive palette! 😁
That zone is the best place to be!!
Oh my gosh, this is beautiful!! I love how you just dove in and went for it. The colors are amazing, and now I have my eye on the Art Nouveau palette, those muted colors are definitely my favorites!
They are lovely
The Art Nouveau set is quite lovely.
I have my dream palette. Setting another goal is achieved!
Goal : Afford this watercolor palette.
I have a few of the Gansai Tambi, and I love them. They are thick, but can be thinned just as you said. Your videos give me a real shot in the arm, and I appreciate sell you do. Very grateful!@😊
I learned about these paints from you some time ago. I got the 24 set all I could afford. I love them.Have been painting with them most of the day. Plus I also have your set and love it.
Perfection!!
Wow. Wow. Just WOW!!!! This was totally TOTALLY inspiring. I saw birds in branches as you were painting. I adore the colours you chose! Now off to paint. Thanks again, Kristy, you've made my day!
Love how you use that brush! New sub is here. ❤
Yay! Thank you!
I definitely saw bananas and fish before you started adding the details 😂
It's fun to watch you be so excited!
Oooh so funny but I get it!!
Gorgeous. Love living the dream through your videos. 💫
I too have joined the sparkle squad because of Etsy. Love the handmade paints! That is an amazing set. Wow such colors!
Sparkle squad lol
I love this! I'm experimenting with gouache since I shopped around and found your landscape class on Creative Bug. While painting in the landscape class, I discovered that I like the more opaque look as I completed both scenes. Now I see that I should give the Gansi Tambi paints a try. I really think many artist would benefit if you would teach more landscapes in the style you presented in those classed, Kristy....I'm a vibrant painter also and my completed pieces were the most joyful I've every done, and the most colorful and happily realistic. They were good but not so serious and not boring. That's hard to do and you made it easy for me. Thank you! You are what making art is all about.......and what's so difficult for so many of us to accomplish. You made this fun again and I've been painting for a long time.
Oooh this set is only in my dreams! It’s 700 bucks here! It is so so so beautiful!
Noooooo!!
Wow. What a treat. I started with Kurtake. Still my favorite. I have so many different sets. I too wish I could afford this. However, I probably have most of these. As always, you inspire. And as to shimmer, my kids say I bleed shimmer!!
You probably do have the set. It would be interesting to actually check each colour and see how close you are. That way you achieve 2 things: 1. Feel better because you just how many you do own and 2. See what is worth still getting if anything, which might make you feel even better or help you buy smarter and budget better.
In the end I hope that you just enjoy making beautiful art with all the paints that you already have.
The packaging is beautiful for a start, which makes my brain very happy. Mind you, I'd still have to take all the pans out and re-arrange them into pleasing gradients. 😊
That’s my next task!
One of my first real watercolor sets was Gansai Tambi. I love them! I am waiting very impatiently for my Art Nouveau set that has been on order from Blick Art for about a month.
I have the art nouveau set, it's beautiful. I love how opaque this paint is. Just picking up a colour and not thinking about it too much is such a freeing way to paint. I do it with other mediums too. My comfort go to is random shapes. Sometimes with a limited palette. And then just see what I get. It's so fun to see someone else just plop colours on paper like I do. 🥰
My koalas paintings up still on Kristys wall. So chuffed right now
This was a very fun video. I appreciate the honesty of an messy artist desk.
If I had such a large set, I'd be drawn to the magentas, deep blues and the metallics!
This is my dream watercolor set! 😊 Thank you for sharing with us. I have a couple different GT palettes & immediately fell in love with them & are my favorite watercolors so far. As a beginner, basically, for me, I find them easier for me to use. Just my personal preference. I definitely want to try something similar. This is gorgeous! I'm really drawn to the blues, especially teal & aqua shades.
Sure!!
I have several of their sets. I love them. Love what you are demonstrating with these paints. I love them and you are helping me to use them in a more vibrant method. I love the colors of this set and was lucky to get them from Amazon. Now I have another one that will eventually get another one from Blicks in May.
❤️❤️
I have the Art Nouveau set. I love it!
The Gansai Tambi Kuretake is my absolute favorite set to use! And, I found replacement individual pans online! This is the set that sites out on my desk 24/7! I just LOVE them soooo much!
Kristy! OMG ❤❤ I have to tell you, I have purchased your two paint brush sets, you palette….and recently your travel brush. I have had it now for over a week. I freaking LOVE painting with it! ❤❤ it is truly a joy
Lucky you! That's an Amazing palette!! I just got the Nouveau set and the chartreuse #48 is why I bought it. LuSciouS!! ❤
It's so good!
Oooh Kristy, this is pretty cool, I've got to try this!🤩I just received my precious Art Nouveau set, I absolutely looove the colours, so looking forward to paint with them. P.S. Just right after I order my Art Nouveau set I found out they have the Anniversary Set😬 it's amaziiing, I so want it now, especially after seeing your post😁
That's the palette have, and I *love love love* the gorgeous muted colors. This one looks even better!!
I can see your pallet, which I own, in so many of these great colors! I have the 48 and the art nouveau, the graphite and the pearl colors. I’m going to get all of my paint pallets out and try this!
Well I was so happy to watch this video! I do have Kuretake paints but not exactly what you showed. I have a 48 set and a 20 piece set. No wooden box but that’s OK! I’ve enjoyed experimenting with them. The colors are wonderful! Box covers come with swatch spaces! It was a act of love filling them in. So true , layering only if dry. I will keep this video for reference, I love using them! Thanks teacher, Karen Dirmish
OMG. WOW! Love Gansai Tambi. Love your style of talking and teaching - you are so inspirational. Your painting was supremely beautiful. Wish I could get your brushes in the UK.
Yes, very inspiring! I like the colors that you chose and your design. I like the energy you bring to your videos. Your videos are always positive and encouraging. You are very inspiring!❤
Thanks!!
What an absolutely gorgeous paint set that is! Wow! Love your painting too.
Thank you!
Great to have you here Kristy😅. I have eyed this set for so long....
Me too. I saw it for $150 ish on Amazon a while back and I couldn’t hold out any longer, lol!!
Is that a good price?
@@carolesauter4205 I'm thinking I saw it for less at some point. Maybe 99.00. Definitely price around.
You are the one who addicted me to this wonderful color set. I now have all of them. Thank you very much. I do love the art nouveau and imagine all the possibilities. I just want to paint and paint, paint, paint and paint.
Yesssss!!
Oh yeah!! Kristi, I have the 48 color Gansai tambi watercolors and like you mentioned had ordered the new art nouveau palette last month and it is still in backorder!! But yes some of the colors is there in your palette and I’m loving your color choice! Love it! And what you are doing is soooo relaxing and if I’m bored this is what I do just swirl my brush to paint these leafy leaves!!
Yesssa!!
I just splurged and bought the 48 pc.set for my birthday this month and I am painting along with you😊 I am new to watercolor painting and I just love your way of teaching and I have learned so much from you so Thank you for the inspiration. Oh and I just received your brushes and I love them 😍
So glad to hear that!
That set looks amazing! I actually haven't been able to buy any Gansai Tambi sets yet but would love some ❤
I’ve literally just received this 100 box… not tried them yet but I’m sooo excited to start. This has inspired my first test piece so thank you 😊
I love your enthusiasm Kristy! It makes me so excited to go paint and be creative, thank you for sharing your lovely personality and awesome talent!
I love this set! Great for mixed media too!
I got it on sale through Amazon Japan. I saved about $100 and got free shipping. I used saved up gift cards so it was attainable. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten it. Shipping took about 1 week total. It went from Tokyo to Boston in 2 days! It was fun tracking it.
Wow! Fun indeed!
I just adore you and I love escaping planet earth sometimes and just being with you in your videos. I get giddy excited with you over paint textures and the little excitement in your voice - just raises my own vibration and it’s fun to play and enjoy with you. Now I need another expensive paint set bc this is drool worthy! I haven’t tried this brand yet so will have to see but just wanted to say thanks for sharing your contagious abundant joy! Love you Kristy !
Loved this video. You encourage me to just play. Just purchased my first Gansai Tambi box of 24 colors. Swatched it and fell in love. Such brilliant colors and fun to use. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and expertise.
Oh wow Kristy! I love 💕 lots of bold bright vibrant colors & this set has that! I love the lovely decorated boxes that this comes in. I have never tried this brand before. They look like great fun to play with. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!
You’re welcome!!
I don’t think it’s very lightfast though…? Have to check with KimCrick, I think she did a year long test in her window, I could be wrong though, might not have been Tambi. Otherwise it’s awesome! Kateiki uses them I believe and does some amazing pictures!
I bought the art nouveau palette, lucky me! This is the first gum arabic paint I’ve used. The first brush contact to the paint pan surprised me as it felt sticky, but that feel does not transfer when you paint. It was different, but I got used to it as I swatched and played with them the first time.
I absolutely love 😍 the colour's. I especially love the art nouveau colours . I will definitely be saving for the nouveau set. Thank you sooo much for sharing this. 😊 ❤
You're welcome!!
Gorgeous!!! I love the loose, colorful piece you did with these.
Cool stuff! I like these paints too.
Thank you! Cheers!
Oh. My goodness. I think I need to start saving. They’re lovely! And - the box. Drooling.
Yesss
Thank you so much for this video Kristy. I have had the 36 set for a few weeks and now finally received the Art Nouveau set. I am a beginner and so far have just been 'looking' at how lovely the paints are. You have inspired me to now put brush to paper - even if it does end up looking like a 3 year olds work! Looking forward to more videos using these beautiful paints.
I love kuretake paint! I have had the 36 set for years and gradually bought all the gold, pearlescent, graphite, opal sets. Then about 6 months ago got the art Nouveau set, which has fast become my favourite. Was just looking on Amazon to buy myself a little giftie for Black Friday and Lo and behold…….they have just released a set of 12 “muted” colours and it contains all the colours I don’t have….no doubles. So now I will have full the set of 100 but without the pretty box. Lol. How clever of kuretake to do that. Im beyond happy! yay ❤
Love mine. I did set up one tray with the colors I use most. Such fun
Just opened my set of 48 tonight and started to swatch. Very new to watercolor, and these among the other brands I have tried so far are my favorite (started with the Mission Gold 24-Set, and purchased individual colors of Roman Szmal, Daniel Smith, and M Graham--all beautiful). Trying out the Kuretake, I found that I loved their consistency, and the feel when applying to paper. I found them easier to work with as a beginner because they seem more forgiving of unintentional variations in water amounts, more predictable, and creamy in more saturated tones. (Side note: These pros could be because, at this stage, I am specifically not interested in creating large washes, painting loose, abstract shapes, or watching the water take over and determine where the pigment flows...so, maybe part of the reason I like them, is that I feel more control while working with them.) They have opened a door for me that the other brands had not, and I'm so excited to get started!
Beautiful! I have the 48 color set and have been waiting for the Art Nouveau set since 3/11 from Blicks. Tfs this lovely piece of work.....would love to have it up on my wall. Still a newbie and collect inspirations.😀
I just got the Art Nouveau set from St. Louis Art Supply - $36
And fun was had by all!!!.🥰
Wahooo!!
. I saw those pinks, I had to stop the video, and find them. ( of course this morning, I told myself no need for more watercolor ) Lol… Just ordered, a set with as many pinks as I could find. Love love love the tile set too. You will have to have a Kristi pattern for us to order! Think this new painting you are doing is magical💕💕💕
Ok…..so just got shipping confirmation, no paint😢 just 2 pads of paper. Out of stock😢 what did I do, I did what you did. I went to Amazon, and bought the whole set. I can’t believe I just did that! My husband will forget Mother’s Day, I can call it my present, and not get mad at him😊😊
I'm watching at 9:25 pm. Michigan time.
I am so envious. I want those paints. They aren't available all the time and are expensive for me. Another artist uses them and her art is so amazing. The quality of the color is beyond explanation. I don't know the words to use...
They are expensive period but supreme quality and you get soooo much paint!!!
I love these pains, specifically the noueavo colors they are amazing to do exactly what you are doing. I love to paint some form of abstract for want of a better word. Thank you so much for all the content you provide there is so much that gets someone who is new to watercolor moving forward. I will finally get to purchase your paints and brushes, it's a little harder when you live on the pension but I will get there.
Hello, I found your channel from watercolor review. I watched this because I'm curious of Gansai Tambi, and I love your energy. Feels really casual but energetic and positive. It's fun to see the exploration, I like colors from first pan the most (I'm gravitated towards red hue tho..)
Glad you're here!
That looked like so much fun! I’ll try it tomorrow! Btw, love your palette I purchased a couple weeks ago!
So glad!!!
Wow! I feel like I did when I was 7 and saw a 6th graders textbook! I'm in awe of this lovely palette. I was gifted a watercolor palette set by my daughter (a natural born artist) because I told her I was fascinated with painting and wanted to try creating. I started looking up videos and quickly became overwhelmed. I landed here (in the artistic deep end) because it was the latest video of Kristy's I could find. I love your videos, Kristy, and feel drawn to your heart for other artists and joy. I want to play with paint and painting, to have some of those creative endorphins, but am without any ability or skill... only interest, appreciation, 48 paints and a brush. Where is the very beginning (1st step or video) for the most very beginner of all time?
Good luck. Most importantly enjoy the journey. I found that using very cheap materials helped me gain courage, but gave poor results. They allowed practice without pressure before moving on to better quality materials, which made a big difference to the out comes.
Following tutorials was the way to go for me. However I found searching beginner watercolour tutorials the most helpful. There are lots of classes by top watercolourist that offer great beginner lessons for free on RUclips. This is a great channel to start searching on.
Wow,, so exciting I can’t wait to see… thanks for sharing
I have the art nouveau set and starry nights. Love them!
I love this set!! Organizational thought…. I think it may be helpful to put the tray number on the pans as well. I would pull out the colors I think I will want to use. I am a bit ADHD, and would get overwhelmed. That’s why I would number each pan…so I can put them back easier when I’m finished.
Oh, yes. I can see myself doing that, too! It would drive me crazy not to be able to put them back in their original order!
I have a smaller set of these at home and when I started painting a few months ago, these colours frustrated me immensely. Now that I have a little more experience, I will try them again soon. I don't have them on me right now but you inspired me to paint something wild with my Rosa Gallery watercolors. Thank you!
This is my dream set
I LOVE THIS! I NEED THIS! On the hunt I go. Thanks Kristy.
Hmm just looked at price too. Love the set, without picking up a brush it made me happy.
Watercolourist relaxation therapy here ☑️✅💘
💯💯💯
I have a smaller set. First watercolors I purchased. Love them
I have the Art Nouveau set, and I love the creaminess, and colours!
Oh yummy! I haven't heard anything about this box. Maybe I shouldn't watch this. I already own several sets, but it's so nice. Even as a newbie and have gone years without painting any watercolor, I still bought them because they were so pretty. Now that I'm getting back into it, I'll have to pull mine out. Had to chuckle, I see the splatter on the green pans. I found some splatter on some cards that I made a while back. Today I decided I'd best cover them before it happens again. LOL Have fun with that new set.
Yes pull them out!!
I have a smaller set and haven’t really appreciated them but can’t wait to jump in and give them another
try🎨Kristy you always inspire me!!!
I have a lot of these and I love then
I am so jealous of your large set. It is not available any more…..at least I cannot find it. I did order the 48 color set from Amazon. Excited to get them and paint!
Kuretake Gansai Tambi are a favorite of mine. It’s taken a while to obtain all the colors, but the set is complete now. I’ve added a set of Boku Undo shadow colors too. The anniversary set sure is beautiful!
Oh my word!!!!! I’d love love love one of these!!!!
Soooo I was looking for the art nouveau set and couldn’t find it anywhere and came across this set in December, purchased it for myself for Christmas and had the same reaction as you when I opened it, all those colors unbelievable. I have carefully swatched every one of them and set it on my table just to look pretty but I have not made a painting yet LOL I did mark the art nouveau colors on my swatch cards so if I wanna go back and just play with those I know where to find them. Also when you said “now it looks like a rash” you made me laugh out loud. I’m so glad I found you, takes all the stress from trying to be perfect to just playing and I end up with work I really love.
I say where in my mind, that indeed is true, lol! So glad you’re here!!
I am SO jealous. I have the 36 set (the green one) and love these. They're a little sticky relative to American watercolor but oh the colors!!❤
They are especially great on handmade cotton paper. Color vibrance can't be beat.
I’ve had that same 36 set for years and it served me really well!
👍🖼🖌🎨💯 Your AFJS pallet is my favorite pallet. The size promotes mixing colors and the footprint is perfect for my space. All my others are going to be donated.
Big one - maybe. Really Big ( HUGE ) money - definitely. What a pity. I have the 48 set , several stary colors, loved them all so much, only brand that is so bful and comfortable to work with brushes inside the pans. Perfact. But this set is expensive really . For me as a pensioner.
I was so glad when you said you weren't in the mood to swatch! I'd much rather revel in you just diving in!
I’m glad!!
Wow! I was surprised how expensive it is! I have the smaller set. Really love the abstract flowers, er, leaves. Beautiful!
It’s def an investment
I want the set very much . happy times to you xxxxxx
I loved how the artwork all came together, got me wanting to get back to experimenting once again.
I'm so glad!
I have this set. I love it. I mainly have painted landscapes and animals with it. I would call it somewhere between watercolor and gouache in coverage power. Love your picture.
Very true!
