    I just picked up a trio of these today at my local store which only has a very small selection of brands available.. this and winsor newton professional being the only large selections. I've never heard anyone speak of them so I was quite surprised how nice they are. Really liked how you compared them to so many other brands that is really helpful.

      These paints are really not bad at all. Im glad you have access to them. Here in the Philippines, it is not very popular because it is more expensive here. Anyway, thank you for appreciating my work and I hope you enjoy your paints well. 🙏🎨

    I think I would be a little sad about the mixing palette and colour choices. I rarely use black or white and those blues are so similar.
    Great video though 👍 the final result is beautiful as usual and it was useful to hear a little about the same pigment being used for different colours. Thanks!

      Yes, I agree. In my daniel smith, i dont use white except for the buff titanium. I have just 1 gouache tube that i use across any watercolor brand. It was really weird of the to put 2 PB29s here. Though I love PB29, it really is better to have a cool blue here.

    It annoys me a bit to see limited sets having white included instead of another color. Yes, it's useful, but it's so easy to find and get from any brand. I even get surprised when I see a student grade set without white. Those 2 blues are so similar, this set would be tricky for a beginner as their first and only set, since it doesn't have a warm and a cool blue.

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 года назад +1

      I totally agree! Yes, very few student grades dont include white in their sets.. Sonnet to mention one. Yes, I didnt realize the set had 2 PB29s when I bought 2 other tubes. I would have gotten a PB15 and another Yellow..

    Oh, Utrecht is a Dutch city, isn't it? So I'm pretty sure that "U" is pronounced like the umlaut "ü" in German. There's not really a similar sound in English, but the "u" in French is similar (like in the name "Julie")as is "yu" in Chinese (e.g. like in "yu" 雨 or "yue" 月) and the "ch" is a pretty guttural sound, a bit like the "kh" or "ch" in semitic languages like Arabic or Hebrew :)

      Thank you for sharing these notes, Luna. Yes, it's a city in Netherlands.. so I think, i would have to try to follow the Dutch pronunciation.. I'm not sure, if i would be able to say it right though. i listened to the audio sample they gave here at wikipedia.. and also saw 3 different ways to say it.. yeas, but the sample audio is only in Dutch. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utrecht

      @@AllanJayQuesada I really liked the renesans pan watercolors better than the tubes (tho the tubes are more affordable at 6-7 dollars for a 10 mL tube). I have heard that Jackson artist watercolors are very affordable and nice for the price (a half pan is around 2.75 dollars and a full pan around 4 dollars- they also offer 10 mL and 21 mL individual tubes). I have ordered a couple of those and the Roman szmal to try out so I am really excited. I hope you get the review these soon, your reviews are very reliable tbh.

    An update after a year... they are a good option in the US for a student grade accessible paint, by that I mean one you can walk into a store and buy open stock. There is an art supply store (more of a craft store really) that has pretty much taken over called Hobby Lobby. In many areas it's the only store local to buy from. They carry this, Winsor Newton professional, one little pan palette of Cotman, and a bunch of junk watercolor that is really, really bad. They are the best option if you can't afford the WN professional. You can put together a decent palette of mainly single pigment colors, you just have to select carefully. I'm seldom ever happy with a set these days from any price range, open stock is always the best way to go. One thing I do like about them in particular is the earth tones are the pigments they should be, so many student grade brands are multi pigment blends or substitutions. They do crack in pans so be ready to add a couple of drops of glycerine to prevent that. They do not use any cobalts or cadmiums so they are safe for kids or anyone concerned with toxic paints... same as Van Gogh. I very much prefer them to the Cotman pans, they rewet and perform much better on the paper. They glaze very well, and have good flow. I found them much more enjoyable to paint with. I have actually heard terrible things about the Grumbacher finest, so I would be very interested in your review. I would also love to see someone review the Daler Rowney artist watercolors. Neither of those brands have any attention at all online. Grumbacher makes the Blick store brand paints which also have pretty awful reviews.

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  2 года назад

      Thank you for your rich inputs. And may bad for the super late response. Comments are packed i miss alot of them. But really, im curious about these paints that are getting lesser attention. W&N have dominated specially 2-3 decades back for some reason. A proof i see that I see W&N at many demo and watercolor books published in the 80s-90s. This might have earned their credibility. I have reviewed years before the WN pro and cotman. Both are fine but my main issue is that they rewet a bit harder compared to its range-mates. This is for a fact that I live in a very humid country.. what more to drier places. Grumbacher finest is very expensive from here, even pricier than DS or Schmincke for some reason. But i might try some colors soon. Might have open stock selection. Daler Rowney is also something im interested to. I believe it's made in UK but still never gets even half the attetion of W&N wjich is a UK brand but made in France and China..

    I assume the symbols on the tubes represent the lightfast information. Also, I think it's "scary" to see a color made out of 4 pigments...The shade is beautiful, I love sap green, but with so many pigments doesn't increase the risk of producing muddy colors and perhaps separation when mixed with other colors? (I'm still learning about pigments)

    • @askialuna7717
      @askialuna7717 3 года назад +2

      This may be that it gets muddier, but there are also exceptions, because the interactions of the individual pigments are unpredictable and therefore also own experiences with colour mixing are very important.

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 года назад +1

      Good point! Yes, I think its lightfastness. It was confirmed when I saw the rating for the Alizarin PR83. The Sap Green with 4 pigments is scary. haha. But i felt a bit relieved when i saw those 4 pigments are all clear and lightfast. But still, 2 pigments can make a beautiful Sap Green i think.

    I think for student grade paints they are pricey and not that special. I would rather go with White Nights, Sonnet, Van Gogh who are cheaper (at least here on Europe). If I lived in the US and these were available for 3/4 dollars a tube would be worth it.
