Being a Midwest guy my team has always been the Packers. However I am a fan of good football no matter who's playing. The Jets were always a team I enjoyed watching. From my first days watching the NFL, Joe Namath, the 70's to the 80's and 90's. Whenever a team has that many injuries it really does stall momentum, even capsize a season. And it sucks for the fans too.
Only thing about this is back then the AFC was just it was ungodly how bad they were back then the NFC was so drastically better than the AFC after the raiders beat the Redskins in the super bowl in '83 from that point on it was a dominance like you haven't seen 490 to 219 was the average score of the next 13 super bowls combined I mean that's unbelievable and those Jets teams they were good that season but they would have gotten killed that year too if they'd got to the all New York super bowl which everybody talked about that year
Jets looked like SB contenders this season at this points. Many were talking an all NY Super Bowl. Ended up being Nyg vs Den. But considering how great the jets started out this was a big game.
Great game. Thanks for posting. I've been looking for game from the '86 Jets 10-1 start. Fun to watch and it's a shame the team was derailed by injuries. As a side note, Jets D-lineman, Tom Baldwin was my State Farm agent in the late '80's -early 90's. He was a good man, gone far too son, as he succumbed to brain cancer.
Well since you knew Tom Baldwin, I'm friends with the son of the Jets' starting center from this game, Guy Bingham. I haven't met Guy Bingham in person, but he played his college football at the University of Montana during the late 1970s and was often the Jets' long-snapper during his time there. His son also played football at Montana (from 2015 to 2019), but he was a tight end and not an O-lineman like Guy was.
This shows how good the Jets were when they were (mostly) healthy. You just don’t start out 10-1 in the NFL without being a good team even if injuries caused the bottom to completely fall out the last 5 weeks of the Regular Season. Then miraculously, they got a grip on themselves (with the non slumping Pat Ryan giving a boost) and played darn well before losing at the last minute in the second round of the Playoffs in Cleveland.
This was the best Jets team I have seen in my lifetime. What could this team have been, if not for all the injuries late in the season? #NFL86

Congrats to Joe Klecko for being elected to this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame!
It was a well deserved honor.
I was 7 years old so had to go to bed. When I woke up, my Dad told me about how great of a game this was. Miss this era badly

Amazing I can watch this stuff again. I remember this game on TV as a young Broncos fan. I was 8
The Monday night between games 2-3 of the World Series
Love this upload! One of my favorite all-time seasons!
Old jets helmets were mint
One of my all time favorite helmets. I wish the Jets would use these this season.
@@Tuzotonics They are going back to these this season. Helmet is shinier, but it's the same logo and uniforms.
Most of the uni’s were better back then

Injuries to their defensive line doomed them
@@footwork216 They still should’ve won that game despite that penalty.
@cbod14 The Jets always use injuries as an excuse. All teams have to deal with injuries.
Great game. Thanks for posting.

1:46:52--Ahhh...The love that Mark Gastineau got from his Jets teammates. 😏😏😏

I forgot just how hot Kathy Lee Gifford was. Absolute beautiful!
1986 was a great year for both giants and jets i think wich could of been a subway suber bowl
Marty Bennett's Joe "Turkey" Jones imitation at 1:13:44.
The beginning of Kathie Lee Gifford's TV career at 0:52.
6:05 - that was the issue with Elway early in his career. He would throw the ball too hard.
The Jets of the 1980s underachieved. They had talent on both sides of the ball but always fell apart. Joe Walton was a terrible head coach.
