@brianbachmeier34... Did you that when Marcus Allen was recruited by USC he was supposed to be a DB. At the time USC's secondary was Ronnie Lott, Dennis Smith and Joey Browner(Minnesota Vikings). They ended up moving him to FB then RB. Can you imagine that secondary had he stayed on the defensive side of the ball?
Al Davis’ treatment of the great Marcus Allen was one of the surest signs his ego had become whacked out by too many years of success and being the media’s “renegade” darling.
Thank god SOMEBODY that has a channel with NFL content is paying attention and has a brain in their head!🙏🏼From 1970-1990 the Raiders had a higher winning % than any other franchise in SPORTS..on top of three Super Bowl wins..HOF players everywhere..and too many division titles to count..yet up until now you’ve had a better chance of getting struck by lightning than seeing Raider games from those years posted on RUclips..thank you my friend keep them coming👍🏼
From 1963-1997 the Raiders had the best winning percentage of any team in North American professional sports, so their record of excellence extends farther than you think. From 1963-2005 they had the best record in the NFL.
If Jim plunkett stays healthy the rest of the '80s I know he was already old but the raiders may have been the team of the '80s I know the NFC was so dominant then but the raiders were the one team that was built like an NFC team they weren't small and weak like those other AFC teams like Denver that kept getting killed by the NFC The raiders were a big powerful physical team all the way up into the early '90s they were still built like that but just for whatever reason they couldn't get through the playoffs but had they got to the super bowl the raiders had a history of just beating up on people in the super bowl had they got there I think they would have beaten some of those great teams the NFC produced
At this point NFL history being on Oakland raider or LA raider was a mindset they were an established franchise that played a certain kind of football and they did it for decades you knew what you got when you played their waiters they were going to run the ball run the ball and throw the ball deep and they were going to bust you in the mouth on defense and you might hit some big plays on them on defense but if you didn't get those big plays off they were going to crush you with that pass rush and that's what you got with raider football back then you might be able to beat them deep but look what they did to one of the greatest teams of all time the 83 Redskins and the super bowl That's still one of the great teams I've ever seen and the raiders dismantled them
Talk about clutch, Broncos CB Mike Harden came through at 2:10:41-2:10:47 with that pick-six. Man, he REALLY stuck it to his future employer (he played for the Raiders from 1989 to 1990) on that play.
What on earth possessed Tom Flores to send Marc Wilson back out there in favour of Jim Plunkett? That should have been the most easiest decision any head coach could possibly make. Even during that season Al Davis wanted Marcus Allen out, but should have tried to move Marc Wilson out instead. Thanks for posting as this was pro football at its finest. RIP Merlin Olsen and Charlie Jones.
I was there, in my Sammy Winder jersey & I was talking to some Raiders fans in the tunnel before game time. They said that they & several L.A. fans had been chanting "Rusty Hilger" at their last home game. As a Broncos fan, I was so afraid & sure that Plunkett would enter the game.
what pissed me off as a kid is they never fixed the problem at QB. They bring in Bo Jackson and end up with 2 Heisman trophy winning running backs and SHIT at quarterback for years. Jay Schroeder was their next QB after Wilson I think and he wasn't much better. Honestly the only quarterback I really liked as a Raider fan was Rich Gannon. To me he was the best quarterback.
@Danny Hilding Jeff George barely played for the Raiders, a season and a half, that's it. I only started watching from the early 80s on but from 83 until present my money is still on Rich Gannon as their best quarterback, including Carr. Hoss wasn't a bad quarterback, but he wasn't a great one either in my opinion. One guy I wish had a longer shot to win with the silver and black was Carson Palmer. I think Hue Jackson was on to something with Palmer who went on to lead the Cardinals to the playoffs.
@Danny Hilding You're right, I looked up Jeff's 97 stats and even though the team went 4-12 he threw for nearly 4k yards and had 29 touchdowns and only 9 picks. Kinda wonder why they didn't give him more of a chance. Interceptions were always the thing that droze me crazy about Marc Wilson when I was a kid, but Jeff didn't throw many for the silver and black.
As an aside: after that amazing pass on the run is completed, we see another former Stanford QB Jim Plunkett on the sidelines. Plunkett won the Heisman Trophy; it's too bad that circumstances conspired to prevent Elway from doing so.
The Coliseum always looks majestic on TV. But for fans, the seats were too far from the field. Plus: no shade from the heat. And because it seated over 90,000, games were rarely sold out & were usually blacked out on TV in the LA metro area. Then-owner Al Davis also cited a lack of luxury boxes.
That is why I don't watch the NFL anymore. Was a fan for more than 50 years, but couldn't take the anti-American BS, the celebration nonsense, and Goodell's incompetent leadership.
I loved him def.one of my favorite Raiders growing up..I used to try to defend him every way possible which wasn’t that hard when you just looked at strictly his AMOUNT of lost fumbles..he was kinda middle of the pack..but when I got older I had to leave that part alone and talk about the real issue with his ball security and the bottom line is did he fumble a lot..not really..but he fumbled in some BAD spots that cost us some big games..no way around it
Why am I NOT SURPRISED that friggin Marcus FUMBLES the first time he touches the ball. And he used to get all pissy when folks asked him about being a fumbler. That dude fumbled away some playoff opportunities. 😡😡😡😡😡
This is the best quality of any 80s games on youtube. you can see the ball thrown!

If you want to know how good that Raider defense was, in 85 they won the AFC west and had home field advantage with Marc Wilson at quarterback

The problem with Al Davis especially as he got older was his massive ego.

Thank you for posting this game. It's the only regular season NFL game I've ever attended and more than likely, ever will be.
Awesome with Charlie Jones and Merlin Olsen

Marc Wilson was trash but had a strong arm. Jim Plunkett was a two time winning Superbowl QB with an average arm. Guess who Al Davis wanted? Smdh.

Lester Hayes should be in the hof best cb in the 80s
There are a lot of great players who aren't in the HOF. Just from the 49ers: John Taylor, Roger Craig and an argument could be made for Dwight Clark.
Early 80s yes. But Dixon and Minniefield were better
Marc Wilson, ruining my childhood...one awful throw at a time.
😂
He threw a football like it weighed 50 pounds.

This game was actually on TV...in L.A.
1:45:58 this is what sets Elway apart from every other qb in the 80s.
Tuan Van I’ll take the one with 4 Super Bowl wins
Christian Boddie Montana would have no Super Bowls with Dan reeves as hc
As an aside: after that amazing pass on the run is completed, we see another former Stanford QB Jim Plunkett on the sidelines. Plunkett won the Heisman Trophy; it's too bad that circumstances conspired to prevent Elway from doing so.
The LA Coliseum was/is such a cool venue. Why didn't NFL teams want to play there?
The Coliseum always looks majestic on TV. But for fans, the seats were too far from the field. Plus: no shade from the heat. And because it seated over 90,000, games were rarely sold out & were usually blacked out on TV in the LA metro area. Then-owner Al Davis also cited a lack of luxury boxes.
1080, nice one! ✔️
Except for his first year, Marc Wilson was a huge liability for the offense, painful to watch.
The heyday of NFL football, before social media and self promotion
That is why I don't watch the NFL anymore. Was a fan for more than 50 years, but couldn't take the anti-American BS, the celebration nonsense, and Goodell's incompetent leadership.
The golden age of sports is gone never to return
49:43 50 yard bomb by Elway
Elway throws deep with velocity.
I loved Marcus Allen but holy shit did he fumble a lot!
Especially in 1983. He redeemed himself in the playoffs that year (still fumbled in the Super Bowl, but we recovered it).

The golden age of sports is gone, never to return
39:48…my God, what a shit throw.
Why am I NOT SURPRISED that friggin Marcus FUMBLES the first time he touches the ball. And he used to get all pissy when folks asked him about being a fumbler. That dude fumbled away some playoff opportunities. 😡😡😡😡😡
Premier In 3 days hmmm
