Always enjoyed his work. the start of a magical season for Denver that fell just short of greatness. just started watching...that Elway bullet to Vance Johnson was a thing of beauty. And the throw to Watson...took something off it and placed it perfectly. Just dropped it in
100% agree. I'd take Criqui over any of the current play by play guys. One thing I really notice watching these older games is that there is nothing on the screen during the plays. The announcers don't take anything for granted and paint a good mental picture of the down and distance as well as the play. Now they have a full HUD that shows everything and the announcers babble about everything under the sun and will not tell you anything regarding down/distance/field position time etc. Sometimes people get up and go to the kitchen or bathroom and the current clowns calling the games won't throw you a friggen bone.

Raiders started off 0-3 in 86 (all tough losses of course) only to win 8 out their next 9 and then go on a 4 game losing streak to end the year. If you’re an old school Raider fan, you’ll just always wonder how many Super Bowls they would’ve went to in the 80’s if they had a decent QB after Plunkett. Marc Wilson was quite simply, horrible. They were absolutely loaded with talent everywhere but the QB position. For how much good Al did for this organization, matching the USFL offer to Wilson was one of his biggest mistakes.
You’re right there, but read up on how they had a trade worked out with the Colts back in 1983 when they drafted John Elway who did not want to play for them. The Colts accepted a trade from them that also included the Bears, it was a 3 team trade with draft picks and existing players involved . The Raiders were gonna get Elway, but the NFL and the noted Raider/Al Davis hater himself, Pete Rozelle stepped in and nixed the trade. Could you imagine the Raiders with John Elway? It was close to happening and God know how many Super Bowls the Raiders win with him.

They too believed the rumors going around about him and drugs while also believing in the utterly horrible Marc Wilson. It bothers the hell out of me they never returned to the SB after 83 after being so loaded with talent with young players and vets in their prime. QB play and a reluctance to adapt to the changing times with the way teams were adapting to the west coast offense killed the Raiders. Most of the time when the Raiders lost in the 80’s, it more them beating themselves than their opponent beating them. They were one of the last teams to even use the shotgun and still had their QB’s taking seven step drops. Shanahan tried changing it and Al didn’t have the patience and all that did was set them back in the long run.

karma for all the cheap hits. If there had been replay in '77 you might have won and gone to the SB. You probably beat Dallas because while Tom Glassic and Andy Maurer had a hard time with Randy White and Harvey Martin, Gene Upshaw and Art Shell would probably wld do better.

THIS is an awesome game! I already looked it up so you can avoid doing that and spoiling the result, 70+ combined points YET, 6 sacks so its got it all, except not a lot of rushing yards... which is usually why I want to watch 80's games...The low comp rates, the route combinations are basic ; the impossibility of seeing what coverage the D is in, makes low rush yard games not as fun for me. Now I have to wait a week to forget the result.
Im all about modern NFL, but I'll never stop loving 300+ combined rush yard games. CFB Spread to Run offenses like Auburn (when theyre good), Ohio State, Alabama when Jalen Hurts was there; Oklahoma sometimes, and even the Iformation teams of the SEC and B1G they'll get to 400+ rush yards combined, and that's endlessly rewatchable to me.

I had season tickets in '86 and was sitting in the corner of the end zone. What a great year and time to be a Bronco fan that year. That stadium was like being at an SEC football game. Loud and full of energy.
The Denver Zephyrs (AAA Cincinnati Reds affiliate at the time) played their home games at Mile High Stadium. Mile High was an underrated baseball stadium.
