yeah. I was thinking the same thing. u could see the lack of confidence on his face. Still...a 47 yard FG was no 'gimme' in those days. Had to deal w/ the same crap last season w/ Bass

Crazy that this game had a score of Buffalo 22 and Denver 21 and tonight’s match up between these two teams also had a score of Buffalo 22 and Denver 21 in the 4th quarter. Also same stadium.
The Bills said this was the game that told them they could win if they stayed together. “The Bickering Bills” were a thing of the past. On the other hand, The Broncos never recovered from this loss & ended up 5-11. One game can change a season
People seem to forget in the "Marv Levy great coach" club that prior to the second game of the 1990 season (a Monday Night Game in NY against the Jets) that then Bills owner Ralph Wilson had to put down a player revolt against Levy. He threatened he would cut/trade anyone who wouldn't work/play for Levy. Maybe the players knew then that ultimately (as was proven) Levy couldn't win the "big" games (as 4 straight Super Bowl losses would subsequently prove).
This was the kind of magic I can remember happening all the time during that era. As a young kid I thought it was normal. I still remember CB running back that block like it was yesterday

We have won some of the most incredible games in the most unbelievable ways, and we have lost some of the greatest games by truly outlandish circumstances... Classic Dan Reeves play calling in his latter Denver years. Up by 13 with 10 minutes left on a 3rd and about 8, run a quarterback draw to not even try for the first down and take a "sure thing" field goal that gets blocked and returned for a touchdown. Dan was a great man, but the play calling on display in this game is exhibit 1a in why he got fired 2 years later despite 3 AFC Championships under his watch.

We here at Bronco Country hasn’t beaten the Bills in Buffalo since September 2007??? That’s coming to an end tonight!! Bronco Country ride the Buffalo all night baby!!!!
The Bills and Broncos would meet again in the AFC Championship the following year in Buffalo. The Bills won an intensely fought game 10-7. Elway tried to throw a screen pass near his own goal line and it was intercepted by Carlton Bailey and run in for a TD which ultimately was the only TD scored in the game. I will never forget how bitter Broncos DB Steve Atwood was in the dressing room after the game. He said that Buffalo didn't deserve to win and that they weren't that great of a team. Never really had much use for Denver since that time.
All I could think about was how many flags would have been thrown today in the NFL. I definitely remembered them playing a lot more cleanly than they actually did back then. All the dropped INTs fumbles, two blocked FGs, botched snaps, etc. yikes!
Today they all wear those ridiculous (should be illegal) polymer gloves which makes catching passes (and int's) a lot easier. Also why you see so many 1 handed catches now where the ball sticke like velcro. Also for field goals they disallowed different ways teams used to linr up to block kicks. Also this was a wet astroturf field because of previous rain so that impacted the snaps the game isnt any cleaner today they just sanitized it.

Throwback game suggestions for this week:
Steelers/Browns 1986 Week 12 (37-31)
Raiders/Dolphins 1990 Week 11 (Bo, Marcus, Marino)
Cowboys/Panthers (1996 NFC Divisional Playoffs)
NY Giants/Washington 1989 Week 1 (MNF)
Cowboys Panthers would be amazing since it’s the Panthers first ever playoff win and it’s ultimately what ended the Cowboys dynasty.
