    I think fashion is a journey. The things I once bought I now wouldn’t buy because of trial and error. I now buy things that suit my lifestyle. I also purchase things that I like , not what influencers say I should have.

      I don’t buy high end designer stuff as I don’t like to break my bank. But I do buy mid range designer items . I’ve been more selective and intentional about things I buy.. I will give some time to myself to think snd buy. I buy less and only what I love.. I enjoy items I bought.. this minimalism changed my life as I don’t have clutter in my house and I can now use all things I bought with my hard earned money... my philosophy now is have few nice quality items and enjoy them rather than falling in the rut of always buying stuff.

    I agree with you but some times clothing needs alterations, I say this as a design major. If a person works in an office and they wear suits they make them in standard sizes and the human body is not made in standard size. Other than that I agree with what you said.

    • @xristinarose2409
      @xristinarose2409 4 года назад +6

      True. Often if you buy an item it will be ok, but altering makes it fit like a glove! It really makes a difference between something that looks ok vs something that looks absolutely stunning. I let my blazer alter & got already so many compliments on it and that s because it looks like its made for me

  • @miel4861

    Such a great video. I totally agree:
    -Regarding outlet shopping, I remember reading several years ago that outlet/sale shopping is only a good deal if you actually need the item. So I try to do a lot of research and wait for a sale, otherwise I buy full price. Like you said, it is cheaper in the long run.
    - I’m still unable to let go of my love for costume jewelry, probably because I don’t have the items I want. I would like to have a small collection made up of a couple of Chanel earrings, necklace or two, and maybe three Hermes classic bracelets. I have some fine jewelry pieces and think that adding a few classic luxury pieces is reasonable. Plus you are owning a piece that is representative of the fashion house. I’m not planning to get a large collection.
    -Just like you, i stopped buying high heels. I bought a few in the past that I barely used. The only high heel I bought full price was a medium high black Louboutin pumps because they are classic. I wanted them as my “nice” going out shoes.

  • @mnicolechic

    I am slowly trying to curate my wardrobe. I have spent many years buying pieces that end up not being used, then I sell them. It's so hard because each season, houses like Hermes and Dior come out with so many beautiful pieces, but it is useless to have multiple items when you just will never use them.

  • @deborahcurtis1385

    But if you buy on sale, and find an item that needs altering, you can get massive savings and a unique item. I still get compliments for checked pants that when I bought them were flared widely. I got the flare taken in they are so warm and fabulous! Because I'm tall and slim I'm more of a dramatic style, so I can be adventurous. If you go only for one colour no patterns, it's elongating whereas I break the colours up and wear patterns, but not all my wardrobe is patterns, a small but dramatic percentage is. So I'd say that it's essential to know your body type and styles that suit. I don't do for romantic looks. So even when bargain hunting I'm very particular about what I'm going for. Dramatic as well as classic.
    Totally agree about not needing small leather goods SLGs. I have one that's a circular coin purse made of crocodile skin a gift from a friend. Would I have bought it for myself? No way!

  • @Debbiesdilemmas
    @Debbiesdilemmas 4 года назад +3

    I so agree with you on outlet shopping. You get so tempted by the “bargains” that you buy things you don’t need or things that end up sitting in your closet. I’d rather spend full price on something that I really want even if I have to wait until I can afford it. In recent years I’m buying quality over quantity. I’m trying to declutter my wardrobe as well as my entire home as I just feel overwhelmed with so much choice.

      Some items can be hand washed, the manufacturers just put dry clean only to save themselves the hassle of people who can't do things properly and ruin the item, blaming them. It's a bit trial and error but also steaming can work really well on refreshing items like coats and jackets. You can also get spot cleaning fluid and use it sparingly. It works really well!

    Such great tips! In the last few years, I decided I was tired of buying lots of things that were on sale or I thought I was getting a “great bargain” on because it would seem like I really did get more for my money, but I usually would end up not keeping those things or just not wearing them very much for various reasons. Overall, I found I would spend more on things I wanted less. So now I just spend money on less things, but I know I really love. I find I will actually use/wear that one thing vs. buying a lot of things I don’t really like or need, even if it is full price. I actually find I am saving myself money in the long term.

    I have basically the same shopping philosophy as you! And I agree that clothes should fit as best as possible, but I have to say as someone who is petite and has rather short legs, I can rarely find any jeans that are the perfect length on me off the rack. I think for some of us it's unavoidable and we have to get items such as pants/jeans tailored to get them to look proper on us. I used to never tailor my jeans as I thought it was a waste of money, but now I think it's actually worth the investment because it means the item fits you properly and you'll wear the item longer and more often.

I do plan to return 2 of the 3 shoes. I realize I don't need luxury in my life. As for clothes, I do buy high-street brands but wait for them to go on sale. I'm not into fast fashion and jewelry or designer hand bags. I prefer affordable brands like Tods and Bally.

    I totally agree on your points and I'd also like to admit that I made similar mistake previously, like going crazy for costume jewellery and SLGs.
    Right now, I ended up selling 60% of them for some better purchase/for savings.

    Totally agree on all except the last one, because I love dressing up my bags but I only have a few which I use and interchange on all of my bags depending on my mood. But of course, you can get away from the expenses because these are really just an added cost. But all the rest of the pointers, I also do them, especially the nail polishes and buying make-up only when I run out.

    Very much agree with your points! How do you handle clothes/shoes/bags that are still in your collection that is “extra”? For example, you have 3 pair of black jeans. All look and feel great but you don’t need them all.

    4 pieces of cardholders from chanel still can't get a seasonal handbag from chanel. At least 8 card holders are needed. I think those who can't afford the handbags just buy cardholders as a consolation to commemorate the collection.

      Card holders and SLGs can be hard to resist for sure! I'm very much into neutral palette but I'm quite open with colours for SLGs, so seeing them in all those gorgeous colours really tempted me in the past xx

    I stop outlet shopping. Because you end up spending more by buying more. Then, you end up with a bunch of stuff you don't use, never use and no space. I have a neutral wall robe: blacks, white and grey. Perfect for funerals. 🤣. I never buy belts, don't wear them. And I don't buy designer jewellery unless they are real gold or pearls. I prefer to buy gold jewellery because they will hold their value. I buy things that I really like and don't go with the trend. I love your style and you are such a smart woman. I watch other videos and I see so many people buying stuff like crazy. I wonder when they use them.

    Outlet shopping! Found a Barbour wax jacket exactly as I needed. 30% off. It was perfect. Until I used it. And realised this model had polyester lined sleeves. Just the sleeves. So it meant the whole jacket made of cotton functioned perfectly. But the polyester lined sleeves had no air circulation. It caused me to catch a terrible chill within 10 min, every time I wore it. It was only good for hanging off the shoulders. I had to get rid of it after five attempts to wear it. Totally defeated the purpose. Now I always read the material label 🏷 😳

    So many great tips, Eileen!!! 😍 I agree with so many great tips, especially buying clothes that require alteration and makeup. I think I've stopped buying makeup for 1 - 2 years already because I always use the same drugstore makeup that works for me anyways. Did not think about the altering. I’m short so with me it’s inevitable but it’s something good to think about. Agree with SLGs I don’t get why people have so many. I have one, a cardholder. I also agree with LV vachetta. I live in a Oregon and it rains so much. I got my bum bag and after that I decided. No more vachetta. I love my bum bag but I don’t want to be worried about the vachetta or want that experience again (me worrying about water marks). Agree with costume jewelry. I want a Chanel brooch but $700+ that’s half a bag.
