Omg... Your story about your husband driving you to the boutique sounds just like mine. Now in my late 40’s, I look back and realize how silly it was to have an obsession and own an object instead of enjoying a nice time together to celebrate important milestone occasions. We all live and learn. Thanks so much for giving me an opportunity to reflect back on past and silly mistakes.
I love shopping, just shopping, not necessarily the item I purchase. Terrible habit. Maintaining a RUclips channel has minimised my shopping and yes, I find it so therapeutic!
I can relate to shopping and feeling fulfilled for a few days and on to more purchases after. I've experienced one Louis Vuitton wallet that peeled and cracked. Never did I want anything from LV again. I'm NOT into acquiring a collection of bags. A collection would overwhelm me. I must admit, I have had ZERO regrets due to a resolution I made a years ago. I return immediately what I don't wear. I know the stores return policy and make a decision by the end date to prevent regret and impulse purchases.
I think you did some good soul searching in these past few years. I'm glad you know our worth doesn't come from material items. Our worth comes from who we are in Christ. God bless you!
Don't beat yourself up, Eileen...I am probably old enough to be your mother, and I can tell you that all of those experiences shaped you into who you are, now. Hindsight is always 20/20, also.
I always admired the Chanel black flap bag. I bought a dupe which was $200. I never used it. I realized that it wasn’t my style. It’s on consignment now. I think learning your personal style is important and now I know that luxury bags with logos are not really me. I don’t have the urge to own one anymore. Thanks for your insight Eileen! I recently discovered your channel and I really enjoy it.
Wow. I really needed to hear this. Im 23 and I'm trying to start my luxury collection (while in college (stupid I know!!! peer pressure is real)) but your video was amazing. Just what I needed to hear. Slow the hell down and dont define my happines and success by designer things.
Great points Eileen!!! Peer pressure, social media, “FOMO”..... all these are very real and scary. I have been trying to stay away from IG lately. Cultural influences are disabling as well. Thank you for the authentic chat and for sharing your insights with us!!!!
I don't do Instagram. It seems like a black hole for time and energy. But kudos to anyone with the courage and conviction to change direction. We all make mistakes, few admit to them!
Thank you for touching on the “investment” issue. I hear that word so much from RUclipsrs in connection with clothes and bags, and it is a word used so mindlessly.
You may not have as many luxury items, but you have an abundance of wisdom! This was an honest and in-depth analysis that ALL of us should consider. Well said!
I used to buy and buy to buy happiness. The products weren't luxury but the money wasted was a lot and I'm slowly dialling it back. Great message 👍 👏 🙂
It’s not easy to be so honest and candid - kudos to you. I think an honest self-reflection can lead to actions/behavior you will be more proud of, not to mention healthier, ie, less stress, the need to keep up, sleepless nights thinking about that item(s), etc.
This was so refreshing! Thank you for emphasizing that luxury items are not tied to your worth as a human being. It’s also so sweet how you talk about your husband and how these things have played a part in your relationship.
Thank you for this video, I really needed to her this. I recently discovered that I was buying things to make me feel good, but once I received it, the chase was over and I was on the hunt for the next thing. I sold about 40 items that I did not use or reach for any more and it felt great. I also did not get near half what I paid for them, and that part really sucks. This is a perfect video for people to hear. Thank you and god bless.
@@ColourfulNoir your video really made me evaluate a lot. This covid had me shopping a lot.... But it's really just fleeting. Which reminds me though, i do love Hermes but I can't justify $8000 or more for a purse.
Thank you Eileen for the honest & truthful thoughts. It is a good reminder for all of us to be mindful and intentional spender. "Luxury doesnt change who you are" I agree with this.
Luxury pieces are not investment, so true. Some of the luxury items are hard to sell and there are stress that could come up in the process of selling.
I have been on the same journey. I don’t know what got into me that I was so obsessed with buying luxury for a few years. I started reducing my collection a little over a year ago and am much happier with just a few nice pieces. I still have two items I want to sell but Fashionphile is saturated with inventory and no longer taking my items. I’m glad I started when I did and was able to already sell the majority of my collection. Everything is cyclical and I see the luxury craze coming to an end. Thank you for the conversation!
I totally agree with you, I have made similar mistakes. Thanks for your weekly sensible shopping videos, I have been doing good for a long while , but yesterday my “ handbag addiction “ almost got me again! 😅 Now I’m watching your videos on repeat to calm myself down! 🤣 I think it really helps! You are like my luxury shopping therapist! 😂 Thank you again ❤️
I read from somewhere.. That most luxury brands are created for the "poor"... To feel rich when they own luxury items. It's a status symbol thing, which is really unhealthy imo
Not judging but because of the pandemic this past Christmas there were long lines outside of LV and Burberry. The mall I like is an open mall called Oak Brook and it was cold. Sadly the majority of the people I saw looked poor. I hope that whatever they purchased made them happy. When I was young and poor I had one Payless purse. I was just as happy then as I was when I bought my first LV in 2003. Not about the purse LOL I mean in my life.
I had trouble looking the part in my social circle, too. I felt like I had to have luxury handbags to hang out with my friends. I also felt a void and looked to shopping to feel happy but the happiness was fleeting. After having my son, I feel much more confident wearing whatever and having a sense of purpose. I still struggle with shopping when feeling stressed out or down, but it’s getting better. You have some really good advice.
@@ColourfulNoir Thank you! Yes, I’ve been getting into gardening lately and started working out again. I need to just focus on finding healthy ways to be happy. ❤️
@@ColourfulNoir no need for regrets. You are still young and can earn $$ Just pass on your knowledge to your kids. 😍 downfall of being first generation that can earn enough money for luxury.
Eileen, I've followed you for almost two years. I love how you've prioritized and kept only the things that make your heart sing! Thank you for your channel!
Thank you for another incredible video Eileen! With so many youtubers encouraging constant and mindless consumerism, it’s so refreshing to watch and listen to your level headed content. I started my luxury journey around 15 years ago and made many of the same mistakes so this was extremely relatable! Your message will save those starting their collections a lot of heartache and money!
This pandemic has caused much self reflection for many of us. Eileen your words of wisdom are so well articulated and summarizes the psychology of non-essential shopping and shopping ‘addiction’. I truly agree how it is so easy to be influenced by others including sales associates, creating this ‘need’ and material self worth . Thank you for sharing those personal learnings which many of us have also experienced. We all need to seize those important moments more than ever now. Happy and healthy holidays to you and your family !
I've got preloved bags and only a few that I paid retail, but then again I got them reduced. I've got enough to be happy with. There's always someone with more, or to their minds, better or newer. A few weeks back I got my nails done (don't usually do this but it was a bonding thing with a friend) and she had the latest Gucci camera style bag which was a particular shade of blue, and then I saw it twice again in the same place! There weren't many women in this nail place, and I thought: what's the point? If so many have the latest it's no longer special. It's just new, but that novelty will fade soon. All of these women paid full retail price, it's a LOT of $. Meanwhile I have some bags that are not sought after bags except by a minority. For example Morabito is based in Paris and top quality. Few know this, so I could get bargains in preloved market. It's a very brand-driven logo-driven phenomenon which I steer clear of except for one LV bag which I bought originally to flip. But it turns out I actually like it, it's the LV Alma PM in monogram and I like the shape as I'm tall and slim. The bigger size suits me. Most people seem to assume it's a fake but it isn't. How ironic! lol!
Great advice. I have sure learned the hard way, few weeks ago I went to my local LV boutique to repair my 6 key holder. And for whatever reason I decided to try on the Pochette Metis in monogram, after trying on on the bag. The SA says to me that the bag just got in this morning, I know in my heart of heart I do not need the bags but decided to get it anyway. Then the SA said how do you want to pay? Cash or Card? Then I ask myself do you really need the bag or just because some of your friends have it? I kindly told her sorry I think I'll pass on this one. Great content as always
I think it's fantastic that you listened to your heart and said no! It doesn't matter how popular a bag is, if it's not for you, it's not worth paying for it xx
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 i remember when i asked if LV has Pochette metis, the sa told me immediately ‘NO’ because its so popular... for some reason this stuck with me, because... she made something that costs thousands sound like a cheap thing that flies off the shelf. It may be true but its rather ridiculous.
Thank you so much, Eileen! I SO needed this. I have to save this video and keep watching it in the future when I need a reminder again. I'm not even into fashion or in the market of any high-end bags/jewelry...but I am a stationary addict and have collected so many leather notebooks, fine stationaries and casual bags...when you add up, it's still A LOT of money spent unnecessarily! I stumbled upon your video while searching for a handmade leather backpack...lol. Love your contents and I've learned a lot about fashion and intentional spending after watching your videos in the past few days. This one is what I need THE MOST. I absolutely agree with every words in this video. Thank you for sharing!
Wise thoughts. I made the same mistake when I watched RUclips content that focused on hauls and luxury items I thought I really needed. I went on a Chanel earrings phase. Now I hardly wear any of them and regret the money I could’ve saved for a real gold item instead of costume jewelry. That’s the danger of social media influence. You always have to be aware of it if you’re gonna watch that content. Good advice!
hi Eileen, thank you so much for sharing , exactly what i have been through along my luxury bag journey. Wasted so much money and things doesn't really change for the past 10 years. i was in the credit card debt as well, just because of owing a luxury bag. However, its ok for me to see people doing unboxing, i feel happy for them. Just that i am more wiser in spending my money. I started to practicing minimal lifestyle in where i noted its such a chaos and troublesome when i want to move out with plenty of things inside the house or wardrobe . Happy to see your sharing and thank you for your sincere thought as well. Happy New year
Intentional shopping. Perfectly put. All my bags will stay in my collection forever. Yes, forever. I made excellent choices. But I'm older now. I did the trendy thing when I was young and didn't buy luxury yet, thank goodness. I made some mistakes in my life but not when it comes to fashion. I Love everything you said.
Great advice, esp referring to the investment select as one of enjoyment and use rather than ROI. You’re one of the ‘guys’ and not the usual kind of gal who accumulated stuff for no reason!
I love how candid you are in this video about feelings of missing out and such that can lead to a regrettable purchase of a bag that is not the one you love
Alot of us need to go through a journey, make mistakes to learn how to be in a better place. Thank you for sharing these with us. Very helpful. It reply is priceless when we can enjoy life, be positive, grateful, content and happy and not let these items control us.
Thanks for sharing your advice with such honesty. I think the biggest takeaway is to not allow luxury brands to define who we are. It’s so easy these days to let the social media fuel our desire for the latest and ‘most sought after’ pieces, to the point that we get desensitized with the huge price tags and consider them normal splurges just because many others have them. Learning to be content with a few classic pieces that we really love and will wear for a long time takes a lot of wisdom and discipline!
Hi Heather, the pandemic definitely made me really think about my shopping behaviours. I still can't believe a lot of the silly things I did to be honest xx
I am glad you are so honest!! Luxury is definitely NOT an investment. To make money out of a Hermes or Chanel would actually require quite a lot of $ to get the right piece, usually limited edition. Overall, rarely generate profit and very few people can reach the goal.
Omg! I know this cycle. I had lived it too. I’m happy I’ve grown from it also. Especially with what’s going on in the world right now. I appreciate family time a lot more.
wow, that is exactly what I needed to hear... thank you Eileen for sharing your perspective and experience with luxury shopping. I am overall a minimalist but I have a weak spot for handbags, and so far the most expensive ones I got were from Coach and I love them. But lately I started contemplating to try higher end luxury bags, and I thought I deserved that and it would make me happy. But also I have been reflecting on the reasons why I actually want to have an expensive handbag and came to a conclusion that in the end, it would be still me with or without the bag... and would not make me a happier person overall... so I decided just a few days ago to forget about that and I am glad your video came along to confirm to myself that what I was thinking was the right thing to do in the end... I will keep enjoying other people's unboxings and once I figure out my living situation and have some extra cash, maybe then I will treat myself like that :)
Although we are a pond apart, you beloved, are so spot on with your wisdom. The peer pressure is incredibly high but we have to get control of wants and desires. I’ve made a 21 resolution for 21 things to cut off. Bam gone! It’s a must..it ranges from social to personal and habits. Hope this something good to share.
Thank you so much for sharing your personal thoughts with us. Obsessing over bags or any other item for that matter is soo silly. Spending quality and alone time with your significant other is way more meaningful than wasting a whole afternoon dragging that poor soul from one store to another..... You are so right on everything you said. Really really appreciate this type of content. So again, thank you 😊
Great video Eileen! This is the type of luxury purchase video that needs to be made and shared a thousand times! I also want to contribute another lesson of my own: *The enjoyment you get out of an item is not related to how much you spent on it.* I'm typing this comment now while on my weekly trip to the office carrying a black nylon shoulder bag with multiple pockets bought 15 years ago at less than sgd 50 (!!) Every week as I pack my bag I'm just amazed at how all my stuff for that day trip has a place to go in this bag, regardless of their size and shape, and that the bag can hold up so well from carrying so much weight. Conversely, I also had more expensive bags that I just couldn't stand the sight of, because they're the wrong bag for me. At the end of the day, our things are meant to help us live our lives, not the other way round. ❤
Eileen, thank you so much for your advice because lately I have been falling under the same bandwagon and determining my happiness over luxury purchases. You have stated with wise words what I have been struggling with; happiness is not dependent on materials but rather on experiences at the moment with significant people. Thank you so much, your message is what I needed to clear my mind. 🥰
Great video!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 You hit the nail on the head! The best thing I did was unsubscribe to the channels that are constantly unboxing and just too showy. I can appreciate luxury good but there is just so much more to life. I too have been through the “what if I miss out” phase and now I have so much peace with my small but complete collection of luxury items. It’s all I need and I love my items. Great video!
I am so glad that I didn’t follow the trend, I remember back then, Celine Nano, Balenciaga, and Valentino was really popular and I know for sure that these bags won’t appreciate in value, that’s why I bought only forever Classic items on LV & Chanel and those are the ones that appreciate in value. While everyone else has 20+ bags in their collection, I only have less than 10 bags in my collection including Birkin & Kelly.
Thank for sharing Eileen. I have made mistakes in the past too and I totally agree about peer pressure. The people I surround myself with now don’t pressure me to buy things. There was a youtuber I used to follow who used to encourage me to buy stuff all the time because she was buying stuff all the time and she would get credit if I bought certain items. I realized how the people around me have such a big influence. This video has definitely given me food for thought.
I absolutely love it that you did this video. It's such an important thing to be intentional about it. I am by no means perfect with that, and my worst thing is buying clothes that I don't use. But I am working on being more intentional with all of my spending.
Thank you for sharing this. I feel like you shared so many hard truths! You are totally right about spending the time instead on real things of value: real investment, self esteem, self care and time with loved ones. It’s so refreshing to hear your honesty when so many influencers are about buy, buy, buy.
I walked into LV wanting to buy and I got completely ignored because I was dressed casually and my friend who didn't intend to buy but was dressed well was talked to and "looked after"...while they completely ignored me and used her name and not mine. I walked out so angry and thought I would not buy due to their disgusting behaviour. I will go to another store.
I definitely can related. I wish I saw your video a bit earlier. I did make some similar mistakes. I thought to myself the bag wasn’t too special. The hardware color wasn’t what I want. The SA told me how limited and hard to get that bag was. I left the store. But still thinking about it. So my husband went back and bought for me. After a few days. I bought same bag with nicer color. And now I regretted it. And even with new condition. I checked to sell online. And look like I’m gonna loose over $1000 . If I saw your video earlier. I should know I should go care much if the bag hard to get according to the SA. I should only get what I like. If I know the bag wasn’t what I really want. I should just walk away. Thanks for sharing. I find it very helpful. And btw you have very nice Hermes collection. Practical and easy to wear.
Great video. I totally agree in what you said. We don't need expensive bags to make us feel special or more confident. Just a bit of self believe and not worry what other people think of you .....who cares! Life is too short. Just enjoy what you have such as health... and people that love you. That's what I think. Thank you again Eileen. :) That's the most important thing.
Everyone make mistake. Impulse purchased n regret later alwys the case. As one grow older will realise hw silly it was. Social media also play a crucial part. If can, just avoid it at times.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I too went through a similar shopping luxury phase. My collection wasn’t too big but the items I purchased made me so “happy”. Not Coming from money and now having the access to those items was “justifiable” I’m now more intentional and careful about my shopping.
Your video is so insightful, i have been thinking for some time, why i spend so much on luxury bags when the “happiness” that came with the purchase only lasted a few days... then its another bag on the shelf that i neglect or another bag i use... thats one of the reasons I havent purchased a bag for 2 years. I’m using my existing stash which makes me happy too.
Tx for your sharings!! I agree with everything you say!! I think it’s really hard especially when starting out but as my own collection has grown I’ve had the same feeling !! Thanks for sharing !! I hope to cut down on my collection soon too !!
You gave me so much wisdom in this video. I can relate to the impulse buys. I’ve also wasted a lot of money 😣 Definitely going to remember some of your tips before I buy things in the future.
Eileen, all that you mentioned is soooo true!!! Maybe due to our insecurity and peer pressure we buy luxury goods for others and not for us, that is why excitement last for so little time, especially when we do not receive the desired complements from others, for whom we really bought the items.
This is such useful advice. When you look at the millions of IGers out there, they are constantly buying .... I don’t know about the selling though. I have to wonder how they’re finding their luxury purchases. So many of them have several Chanel handbags, they’re constantly doing hauls of clothes bought from Zara plus a few luxury belts or shoes.... I can’t imagine that every IGer is making tonnes so I can only conclude they must be in serious debt unless they have a seriously good day job that supports that .... but given their age and the fact they’ve not founded Uber or Deliveroo ... I doubt it. Not to mention the lack of sustainability when it comes to frivolous purchasing for the sake of a few likes on a photo.
Very beautiful message and fully agree with what you said. I am always amazed by luxury bags but not really so into it...that was me 5yrs ago, nit until this year that I went out of control and purchased 3...Everything you said were actually my justification for buying. And guilty as charge, I also feel happy seeing them and looking forward using them when this Pandemic is over...However, I really wanted to thank you for sharing your thoughts. Obviously a good reminder for me to discipline myself from overspending and save for the rainy days, before it’s too late. Thanks! 🥰
Really enjoyed your video. It’s nice to have people being genuine. Social media has definitely influenced me in wanting more. And for those who misuse the term “investment” purchases. They’re not. Unless your job is to buy for clients or you have a huge social media following, it is very unlikely you will break even on a handbag unless you’re going to sit on it for x amount of years. Better to invest in stock market or real estate but unfortunately that doesn’t really draw a huge following.
Dear Eileen congratulations ...You evolved ..you grew up ,,,early enough !! The pressure of marketing in a capitalist system is hard to resist ...The credit cards were created for pain-free !!!! spending!! Generating the Oh so painful "credit rating ",,. When one is from "humble beginnings " the urge to buy is stronger . But 2020 will mark a new area ... this is why we all were stoped and had to reflect . It is of good business practices to take inventories periodically ...and correct our mistakes. Luxury shopping is on the list of Addictions ... You buy these "stuff" not sure why !!?? So BRAVO for the detox !! Your charming -patient husband must exhale !! (If i may say : The chunky bracelet should go too !!) It goes only with a Harley 😉
Love your honesty, and classy style. Love your new attitude towards life, which I can resonate with, I am a lot more greatful towards everything I have instead of focusing on what I don't have. I focus more on building up true friendships and spending quality times with the people I truly love.
I've experienced the same things as you've said, for so many times in my younger days and even sometime now! Thank you very much for pointing this out.
Thank you so much for sharing your honest opinions. I was just like you going for designer brands from head to toe but this pandemic had changed my mindset. Yes branded things only reflect our exterior but not who you are. ❤️❤️❤️ this video abs have a great week ahead.
Great video!! I have always had a shopping problem but lately i have been buying less small things so i can afford the thigs i really want!! I just purchased my first peice of ready to wear! Last month i ordered my first two pairs of luxury shoes!! At the beginning of the year i bought my second luxury bag!! Love your videos!!
I really enjoy your videos because these are not crazy luxury shopping in a day. You have made very good points. I believe balance in life is very important. A Long lasting happiness does not come from buying luxury items. Yes luxury item does give you happiness when done carefully and agin in balance. I love watching luxury hauls but have only couple of luxury items in my collection. I have been wanting to buy Love Bracelet but given I am a physician and typically no jewelry, mostly scrubs :) I have been wondering if it’s worth the investment. I can’t wrap my head around how some ladies spends $20,000- 30,000 in one day. I see a luxury RUclipsrs says luxury handbags etc are a good investment, I believe luxury items are only to give you happiness which is important but an investment. You can invest in stocks with much higher return if you are mostly interested in investment.
Thank you, such a down to earth video. I'm very sure, that a lot of people get stressed out and into debt, because they feel they "need" to have certain things: to fit in, and as "everyone else" (on social media) has those. A lot of the social media items are also gifted, not bought. Shopping addiction is also a serious problem, and a lot of the social media content encourages that.
I really appreciate this video. I haven't started purchasing luxury pieces just yet (I'm still shopping more contemporary brands) since I only finished school and started my full time career this year so I prioritized purchasing my house first but I am looking to start curating a nice, collection of items that are functional and that I love. As of now there are really only 2 bags I really want and I plan to purchase the first sometime next year: Givenchy Antigona and Loewe Puzzle Bag, and a few Louis Vuitton SLG's. Your channel is so helpful for newcomers and seasoned shoppers alike. Great content as usual!
Hi Eileen, thank you for this wisdom video. It just remind me of how, if we are not careful, luxury items shopping can ended up to be an obsession which cause damage to ourselves and the ppl around us. And often time, our poor hubbies/partners are the first one :(

"Luxury doesnt change who you are" I agree with this.

Aww I'm so happy I could help xx
I read from somewhere.. That most luxury brands are created for the "poor"... To feel rich when they own luxury items. It's a status symbol thing, which is really unhealthy imo
i dont agree with this, but it is definitely something that occurs
Not judging but because of the pandemic this past Christmas there were long lines outside of LV and Burberry. The mall I like is an open mall called Oak Brook and it was cold. Sadly the majority of the people I saw looked poor. I hope that whatever they purchased made them happy. When I was young and poor I had one Payless purse. I was just as happy then as I was when I bought my first LV in 2003. Not about the purse LOL I mean in my life.
Is not created for the poor. Is created for celebs and elite. The hermes, gucci, etc and middle class wants to be part of the elite club
Thank you so much for sharing!I used to do a lot of emotional shopping but it's so liberating to free myself from the dopamine addiction xx
@@ColourfulNoir Thank you! Yes, I’ve been getting into gardening lately and started working out again. I need to just focus on finding healthy ways to be happy. ❤️
You are absolutely amazing. I am in awe of you!
Thank you so much xx
Most of us r not much different from one another , we seem to go through the same cycle/evolution
So true! But I only wish I knew earlier, a lot of money would have been saved xx
@@ColourfulNoir no need for regrets. You are still young and can earn $$
Just pass on your knowledge to your kids. 😍 downfall of being first generation that can earn enough money for luxury.
Eileen, I've followed you for almost two years. I love how you've prioritized and kept only the things that make your heart sing! Thank you for your channel!
Thank you so much, Kevin! 🧚♀️
I am having a curate luxury bag collection which contains 7 bags and I am very happy with it! Staying minimal makes me happy. Love your advice Eileen!
Thanks for sharing!! xx
Thank you so much! This really means a lot to me xx
The turbulences this year brought definitely made me reflect a lot. Happy holidays to you too xx
Thank God I’m perfectly contented with my medium range bags even though my friends kept telling me to “invest” in expensive luxury handbags.
Thanks for sharing! Gratitude is really the true key to happiness xx
Wow you’re rich 🤑 I can’t even afford it 😅
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 i remember when i asked if LV has Pochette metis, the sa told me immediately ‘NO’ because its so popular... for some reason this stuck with me, because... she made something that costs thousands sound like a cheap thing that flies off the shelf.
I'm so happy you found my video helpful! I speak about intentional spending a lot so make sure to visit often xx
@@ColourfulNoir Absolutely! I've been watching A LOT of your videos and also followed your IG and visted your Blogs. :)
I agree! Social media is good and all, as long as we take full control of our own spending xx
hi Eileen, thank you so much for sharing , exactly what i have been through along my luxury bag journey.
Happy New year
Hi Evelyn, thank you so much for sharing! Wishing you a wonderful and 'clutter free' 2021 xx
Thanks for sharing!! xx
Great advice, esp referring to the investment select as one of enjoyment and use rather than ROI.
You’re one of the ‘guys’ and not the usual kind of gal who accumulated stuff for no reason!
I appreciate that! xx
Too bad I didn’t see this in June which started my pandemic shopping craze
Thanks for sharing your advice with such honesty. I think the biggest takeaway is to not allow luxury brands to define who we are. It’s so easy these days to let the social media fuel our desire for the latest and ‘most sought after’ pieces, to the point that we get desensitized with the huge price tags and consider them normal splurges just because many others have them. Learning to be content with a few classic pieces that we really love and will wear for a long time takes a lot of wisdom and discipline!
The key to happiness never comes from seeking more, but the ability to enjoy less 😇
All great advice. I need to remind myself of these things. You have obviously done a lot of self reflection. Very mature perspective.
Hi Heather, the pandemic definitely made me really think about my shopping behaviours. I still can't believe a lot of the silly things I did to be honest xx
Beautifully said. You are a class act and speak so much common sense.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it xx
I am glad you are so honest!! Luxury is definitely NOT an investment. To make money out of a Hermes or Chanel would actually require quite a lot of $ to get the right piece, usually limited edition. Overall, rarely generate profit and very few people can reach the goal.
Omg! I know this cycle. I had lived it too. I’m happy I’ve grown from it also. Especially with what’s going on in the world right now. I appreciate family time a lot more.
I agree! If there's one good thing that happened this year, it's my realisation about what's really important in life xx
I love you and your content. You are such a genuine, rare find! Thank you for your openness . It is so refreshing to listen to your channel.
Thank you so much xx
I’m glad I find this channel just when I started my luxury journey!!
That's awesome! Thank you! xx
How beautiful, brave, and transparent of you to share this wisdom. It really did ring a bell inside me.
Thank you for your kind words xx
wow, that is exactly what I needed to hear... thank you Eileen for sharing your perspective and experience with luxury shopping.
Hi Tatiana, I think it's fantastic that you respect your priorities and do what's best for you! Thank you for sharing xx
Lovely words of wisdom. Thank you for your valuable advice as I navigate the luxury world. Staying humble is the lesson that I have learned.
Thank you! xx
Appreciate your transparency. I totally can relate. Please keep making videos !
Thank you so much for sharing, Michelle! Please share what are the 21 things you've got rid off xx
So again, thank you 😊
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video xx
Thank you so much for sharing! I agree, we are the master of our things, not the other way round xx
You are so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed my content! xx
Thank you so much for sharing! I totally agree, luxury doesn't have to be indulged in excessiveness xx
Smart! 💕
Thanks for sharing!! xx
Glad my video was helpful, thank you! xx
I absolutely love it that you did this video. It's such an important thing to be intentional about it. I am by no means perfect with that, and my worst thing is buying clothes that I don't use. But I am working on being more intentional with all of my spending.
Hi Dolly 😊 I was the same with clothing, until I saw the big pile I decluttered, it really changed something inside me xx
@@ColourfulNoir Yes I feel I am getting there. My annoyance with myself is mounting at continuous mistakes, which is good.
Thank you for sharing this. I feel like you shared so many hard truths! You are totally right about spending the time instead on real things of value: real investment, self esteem, self care and time with loved ones. It’s so refreshing to hear your honesty when so many influencers are about buy, buy, buy.
Thank you so much, Linda xx
I agree with everything you stated and can relate 100%. Especially, shopping as a pain killer or escape.
So true! That's why they're called retail therapy 🙈
I'm so sorry to hear about your less than satisfactory experience. I hope you find a store that better deserves your business xx
Thank you for sharing your experiences! I do a lot of mindful spending videos, so do drop by xx
Great video.
I totally agree in what you said. We don't need expensive bags to make us feel special or more confident. Just a bit of self
believe and not worry what other people think of you .....who cares! Life is too short. Just enjoy what you have such as health... and people that love you. That's what I think.
Thank you again Eileen. :)
That's the most important thing.
I agree! It's hard to not care about what other people think of us but it's the key to happiness xx
Not
Coming from money and now having the access to those items was “justifiable” I’m now more intentional and careful about my shopping.
Thanks for sharing!! Being intentional with money definitely brings longer lasting joy than impulse shopping xx
I agree! Seeing your bank balance grow can be so much more satisfying xx
Your husband is amazing! Glad that you appreciate his efforts as well
He's really sweet I agree 😊 Thank you for your support xx
Tx for your sharings!! I agree with everything you say!! I think it’s really hard especially when starting out but as my own collection has grown I’ve had the same feeling !! Thanks for sharing !! I hope to cut down on my collection soon too !!
Hi Clara, thank you for sharing and please keep me updated regarding your downsizing xx
@@ColourfulNoir Thanks Eileen, I need to match all the receipts...I've accumulated way too much over 10 years. I should probably make it a 2021 goal!
You gave me so much wisdom in this video. I can relate to the impulse buys. I’ve also wasted a lot of money 😣 Definitely going to remember some of your tips before I buy things in the future.
I talk about mindful spending a lot, I hope my videos help you cut down on impulse spending a bit xx
Eileen, all that you mentioned is soooo true!!! Maybe due to our insecurity and peer pressure we buy luxury goods for others and not for us, that is why excitement last for so little time, especially when we do not receive the desired complements from others, for whom we really bought the items.
Thanks for sharing!!xx
Thank for being so honesty..loved your video!
Thanks for watching!xx
So well spoken. I have been thinking about everything you said. But, you have vocalized it so well. Cheers!
You're so sweet, thank you! xx
Thank you for your honesty here. I have so much shame over spending special occasions in malls in the past. Helps to see how far you have come!
Glad it was helpful! xx
You are so so right about luxury not being an investment and the sheen that wears from buying something new! Fantastic video ❤️
Thank you! xx
You're such an honest and real person! Thanks for sharing learned lessons in life!
I appreciate that! Thank you xx
Thanks! 🥰
Hi Ana, thank you for sharing! I agree, financial security is more important than any luxury bags xx
Hi Annie, that is so true! I also believe there should be more education about stocks and real estate, even from a young age xx
I so appreciate your honesty. Thankyou for this. You are helping women.
Thank you so much! xx
Love your honesty, and classy style.
Love your new attitude towards life, which I can resonate with, I am a lot more greatful towards everything I have instead of focusing on what I don't have.
I focus more on building up true friendships and spending quality times with the people I truly love.
There's a saying that goes, love people and use things, because the other way would never work 💛
A very thoughtful sharing eileen. Always an enjoyment listening to you!
Thank you so much!xx
You are so far the best youtuber ! Wiser and calm and classy !!
Wow, thank you! It really means so much xx
I've experienced the same things as you've said, for so many times in my younger days and even sometime now! Thank you very much for pointing this out.
Luckily our mistakes many times make us a better person xx
Thank you so much for sharing your honest opinions. I was just like you going for designer brands from head to toe but this pandemic had changed my mindset. Yes branded things only reflect our exterior but not who you are. ❤️❤️❤️ this video abs have a great week ahead.
Glad it was helpful! I actually feel a bit conscious about displaying too much logo as well now, so less shopping for me lol xx
So wise! Most of us i beleive have done the same “mistakes”. With luxury shopping is like holidays, wherever you may go you still carry yourself
Thanks for sharing!!xx
Definitely! Handbags should be seen as consumer's products which occasionally can increase in value, but I won't say they are assets xx
Thank you for sharing, Katja! I agree, we do need to consume social media mindfully too xx
I'm glad you found my content helpful! You're at such a good place, I wish I knew about mindful spending earlier. All the best to you xx
Thank u for your honesty...luv these tips!
Glad you like them! xx
Another Awesome video from you Eileen! On point and well said. Keep up the good video content, can't wait for your coming videos....
Thanks so much! xx
Eileen, you’re very wise, thank you.
Thank you! xx
Well said! This is a lesson learn. I bought my very first Chanel bag and told myself that I’m done buying expensive bags with one is enough.
Thanks for sharing!! Congratulation on your Chanel bag and kudos to you for embracing the joy of having less xx
Hi Eileen, thank you for this wisdom video. It just remind me of how, if we are not careful, luxury items shopping can ended up to be an obsession which cause damage to ourselves and the ppl around us. And often time, our poor hubbies/partners are the first one :(
So true! They do it because they love us so we really shouldn't take it for granted xx
I feel like you are talking about me .I am in my 50s and I have realized what you say now .Good lessons ❤️
It sounds like we've walked the same path, glad we've arrived at the slightly wiser end now xx
While I can’t afford most luxury items, you certainly taught me to be more selective and that it’s not all shiny and high quality.
Glad it was helpful xx
