  • Hi guys, I'm Eileen. In this video, I shared the 7 simple questions you could ask yourself before buying anything (expensive luxury items especially!). I personally find them very useful, especially if you want to build a minimalist wardrobe and a curated luxury collection. For those of you who're looking for value-for-money Iuxury items, don't skip this video! used to think more was better for designer shopping. I dreamt of having a walk in closet with hundreds of designer purses, I wanted a huge collection of fine jewellery pieces and designer shoes. Fortunately, luxury minimalism has changed my life and my shopping habits for the better, which is why I feel really inspired to keep sharing shopping tips with you guys. Even if you could afford a Louis Vuitton unboxing every other day, I suggest to still run through these questions-- because your money deserves only the very best. LESS IS MORE xx

    2. Do I have anything similar?

    4. Will I be happy to see it at half price?

    I went through a dramatic weight loss journey in which I managed to shed half my body weight. I was feeling really overwhelmed with everything that the internet told me I needed to purchase because I had to build my wardrobe from the ground up. I've now decided that I'm not purchasing any clothing until I have had my excess skin removal surgery done and keep my money in my purse to spend on items that will fit perfectly after surgery. Your channel has really inspired me to start on my minimal luxury journey without taking it too far to the point where it's no longer a source of joy but a source of greed and feeling like it's never enough. Thank you for that Eileen! X

    I have been asking myself, "Do I need a Chanel handbag or not???" I really want to own one, but it costs way too much for its value right now so I said to myself, "No, I don't want to spend about $6000 for a Chanel bag and it will just sit in my closet for a long period because I don't go out often to show it off. I rather spend that much money for something that is more practical like buying good food, beautiful watches, remodeling my kitchen.....I have other different bags from Gucci, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch.....Therefore I am happy what I have.

    "Cost per use" is something I apply whenever I shop :) for example if I spend $700 on a smart phone I MUST use it for at least 700 days (approx 2 yrs) that's $1 per day :) it's a bonus if I am able to keep it for longer 👌 which is the case most of the time 💚😊

    Social media is pushing the idea of selling on luxury goods instead of keeping them. Some of the key phrases and terms used "investment bag" " great investment" "if you sell it later".

    • @despinapoe534
      @despinapoe534 3 года назад +2

      Items from very few brands are actually "investment" pieces and only bags. Expensive shoes, e.g., even if they are unworn, get back only a fragment of their price.

    • @ColourfulNoir

    Very great thoughts! I totally agree that even luxury has become more “fast fashion“. Countless collections and releases and less focus on for example the main seasons. On top the illusional image bloggers and influencers transmit with their content. I do appreciate people who are able to appreciate. Those who stand still and reflect with gratitude and aren’t constantly on the hunt for the next item.

    I am not a buyer of other people used things. If I cannot buy it new then that means i should not be buying it. My focus is on enjoying life, not spending my money. I want to buy a townhome in Florida for my retirement, so not into buying a handbag for $10,000-$30,000. It is not going to make me feel any better about myself. Thanks for sharing Eileen. Have a safe week.

    I like your content! I had the complete opposite problem than shopping too much, which is shopping too little because I’m too cheap. Your content made me realize that it’s ok to buy things as long as I use them. I’ve been wearing the same polyester sweater for 15 years!! While saving up is good, being too cheap can make you miserable. So after watching your videos, I bought 2 cashmere and 2 lambswool sweaters, a pair of boots, and a bunch of other high quality stuff I always wanted (I still bought them for super cheap ($30 for cashmere and $20 for lambwool) during winter sale because I’m just so cheap 😅 I’m small so can get away with buying men’s xx small size which always go on sale or large in junior size, which helps. I only started watching luxury content because my mom offered me to give me a bag and I wanted the most versatile and durable bag. But I’m glad I found your channel.

    As always a very smart and well spoken video Eileen. I’ve never been a big shopper but this past year especially starting at the beginning of 2021 I’ve had a definite change in mindset. Even when it comes to shopping on Amazon I think twice or three times when making a purchase. I don’t sleep well at nights and I use to find myself shopping on line at night and often for things I didn’t need. Now when I look online I really think about whether I need something or will it just become clutter in my home. I’m on a decluttering journey which makes me even more mindful. If I want new clothing I ask myself is it a necessary replacement of something old or is it just going to take up more space in my closet. It was my birthday in March but instead of buying something just because it was my birthday I’m waiting until I find something that I just love and can’t stop thinking about. I’ve said it before but it really is a great to feel content with what you have and to appreciate and use what you already own.😊💖🙏

    It makes sense. When i buy luxury item, I’d also think of cost per wear & how it’d fit my lifestyle. Example I prefer to buy flats or low heel shoes coz I know I will wear it more than high heel shoes. I don’t own many luxury shoes coz I think it’s a waste of money. It gets ruined/damaged very quickly but I still want a pair of low heel Chanel classic sling back. Or maybe I just get a dupe one!!! 🤔 cheaper lol

    Investing in a good quality pieces and keep them for a long time is one of my preference in buying luxury items. Selling an item for me is a heartbreaking. 😅Though I had a bad experience when I got a wrong size in shoes and sold them half a price without using them. I'm not rushing buying into anything now since I've known your perspective honestly!🥰 Thanks so much Eilleen!!!💕💕💕

    I spent more than I want to think about on Chanel handbags which didn’t get worn or didn’t fit my style because I had FOMO and was thinking if I want that bag later it would be overpriced on prelobed market. I now stay away from iridescent anything no matter how hyped it is!

    Great video, great advice. The question of how many hours I have to work to get this item really resonates with me. I have been really tempted to save up to get the empreinte multi pochette. But the opportunity cost would be a nice beach vacation and having very little in savings. The MP in empreinte is quite pricey and I have decided to save for a vacation which will actually cost less than this bag. I will most likely look for a small black leather bag on my vacation for a fraction of the price. I do still have items on my wishlist but these questions are good food for thought. 💖

    Eileen when i watch your video, i don't need much of those luxury in life, which is true. But when i switch on to unboxing videos etc...i am so so tempted. Ok, i don't have many luxury items at all, less than 8 in total which includes handbags, accessories etc. I really want to add handbags from Chanel that i can see myself using in the future as well. I do want a curated collection. Thanks for sharing.

    These were great questions. I’m currently looking at purchasing a mid luxury trench coat for 400 and a Marc Jacobs handbag and some Gucci mules preloved. After your questions I’m still going to get the trench coat because I know i will use it and keep it until it looks ratty. The mules, I absolutely love and they are in my favorite print. I will definitely get my cost per wear really low and I will probably keep them as long as I can maintain them and resolve if needed. The bag. I’m on the fence now. I love it but I don’t think I would keep it for over 3 years and I would wear it that much. Also I plan on a lot of travel with my son so I think I’ll just get a nice book bag for 100 with tax and save the extra 350 for our travel budget. Thanks.

    Dear Eileen, thank you for this helpful video. I'd like to ask about the point "How many hours do I have to work to pay for this?". For example for renting there is a saying the rent should not cost above 30 % (depending on area, country etc.) Is there a general "saying"/ counting for items depending on e.g. shoes & bottoms or even roughly divided clothes & non-fashion/non-luxury items? I'm currently still a student, finishing my master, between a dilemma from being a mindful consumer/ minimalism/ capsule wardrobe and yearning for luxuries here and there. Thank you and I'm seeing forward for an answer and more videos from you!

    • @ColourfulNoir
      @ColourfulNoir  3 года назад

      I think it really depends on personal preferences and lifestyles. For example, someone might love eating out, cars and shopping will have to allocate less percentage to shopping than someone who lives quite frugally but only happen to have a liking for designer bags. I hope you find your ideal percentage soon! xx

    You give very good advice. Just wanted to point out that we can make mistake investments also in other areas than luxury. When my smallest child was less than a year old I was exhausted and had severe back acke. I invested in a long term contract with a personal trainer company, which made me a gym workout plan and weekly training. That appointment was the moment I had every week just for myself. I hated every moment of training, it was a struggle to get any workout done during the week, and I hated the gym. I think it was the worst investment, even though I thought I would be investing on myself and my wellbeing. I have not been to the gym since 2018. I wish I got another Chanel bag instead and used the little time I had on sleeping.

    Eileen, I have to say you are right but wrong. You never want to put in the universe that you are worried about money! This will be a sure way to go broke. You have to "think" you have the funds to by what you desire. I found this to DIRECT me to the right purchases. You need to go by your instincts. Some people go overboard, but for most people, you want to make it a dream come true.

    Hi Eileen would you also splurge on nice meals, Michelin star restaurants on special occasions? Someone would save the money for a luxury purchase. Would you rather spend on fine dining or on luxury?

    Hi Eye Lean.... I love that question. ""Would I wear it or do I just like it?".... My question is should I return my Balenciaga Speed Trainer I purchased for $795 back in Nov. 2020. I haven't worn it and I can still return it and get my money back. These sneakers now cost $995. I like them, but I'm afraid to wear them, because I'm not sure how often I would wear them. But I do like them. I have attempted to return it a few times, taking it to the store, but I can't get myself to bring them back.I really do like them. I know $795 is a lot of money and they are very comfortable. But will I get my cost per wear? I just don't know... Help! I used my pandemic stimulus money to buy them so they are paid for. But I don't like wasting money. I feel the same for a pair of Givenchy Combat Boots I bought for $1095 in Oct. 2020 and have yet to wear out. Please help me! I bought Givenchy Boots for evening wear out to clubs and Baleniciaga sneakers for day. These are the only two designer items I own.

      @@perthfanny3017 I think you can choose, how many ads you confirm as a RUclipsr, e.g Joshua Becker has no ads at all. But when I watch a 10 min video with 5 ads, it's definitely too much. But more ads you show then more you can earn as a RUclipsr.
