Hi guys, I'm Eileen. Today's video is about the simple ways to a successful low buy year. I did a NO BUY YEAR in 2020, where I didn't purchase anything luxury. At the moment, low-buy for me, is a force of habit, not much of a challenge. If you're wondering the secret to it, it really is as simple as wanting to buy less. Willpower is good and all, but wanting to do something is always better than forcing yourself to do it. In this video, I spoke about the ways to re-programme your mind into wanting to shop less, and actually find joy in doing it. One thing luxury minimalism has taught me is, happiness doesn't come from constant designer hauls, or massive luxury collections. If you have the money, consider spending it on things that bring more long-lasting fulfilment. If you don't have the money, certainly don't get yourself into debt for shopping. Excessiveness is burden, which doesn't deserve your time, money and attention. If you think someone might benefit from this message, certainly share this video with them xx

Thank you for watching this video about the luxury minimalist's guide to a successful low buy year, especially for expensive designer shopping, like luxury handbags and fine jewelry pieces. For me, luxury minimalism has definitely changed my life for the better, so I hope everyone will enjoy the same benefits. Owning less is not depriving, it's liberating.

For me, i now feel sick at the thought of the amount of money a bag cost, $6000 could feed someone for a year or 2... having a few bags are fine to pamper yourself but buying a few a year... i can’t seem to do it anymore. I’m also very picky so there isn’t many bags i like. And I stop myself from going into the stores because i have a terrible habit of buying impulsively. Strangely, watching videos of youtubers, buying chanel bag every month make me want to buy less...

In 2020 I was on a very low buy year. Then I was in shock to see how much I actually saved last year. Since then I’m haven’t had any desire to shop. The dopamine I used to get from buying now I get from seeing my savings grow. I haven’t had to fight myself like before.

I am a luxury enthusiast and have been purchasing luxury for a while now. I have 15 bags that I love, along with luxury shoes, jewelry, and accessories. Which means that I have done my fair share of shopping. Coincidentally, in the beginning of the year, I read an article about "creating more and consuming less" and that hit me hard. So, I decided to write the book I always want to write. I am about half way through, and my goal is to finish by summer. As a result, I have spent far less time shopping and I feel better about how I am spending my time. The decrease in shopping has also made me realize that I have more than enough. I used to have a giant wishlist, but I have reduced that number to 5. So, in 2021, I will buy up to 5 items. Great video!!

I realized I'm only wearing 1/3 of my current wardrobe but are still buying more. I definitely buy out of boredom. When my child is doing her activities I'm in the shops for those hours in the afternoon just buying stuff I most likely will not wear. I'm over it now that I have no wear to put the stuff I'm getting. I feel overwhelmed buy the amount of stuff I have and don't even wear it. Waste of money and space in my closet.

I recently read that people who own 100 Prada bags think they’re not hoarders because the bags are expensive. In actuality they are hoarders. Whether it’s books or bags or animals it still usually requires a mental health expert.

I’m doing my best. I’ve purchased 2 small items in 3months for less than $1k... it’s a major improvement from last year 🥲

I had so much fun acquiring my collection of LV, but I am having just as much fun getting rid of it, lol! I recently traveled and I had so much less stress worrying about my stuff in the hotel room or my collection left at home. It really is so liberating to only have a few pieces. Less is more!

Eileen, I do have to say that it never ceases to amaze me just how enterprising and creative you are in coming up with interesting new topics every week. Personally, I would struggle to constantly find subjects that would keep my audience listening; you are an absolute inspiration 💕👍

My motivation for shopping less is financial independence. I want to pay off my student debt and make enough investments so that I can leave my job if I want to. The freedom to do what you want, without needing to worry about the financial ramifications for you and your family, is the ultimate luxury. It has made me not even want to buy more bags at the moment, although I still enjoy living vicariously through RUclipsrs!

I downsized a lot over the years and still am, including getting rid of most of my expensive/designer handbags & wallets and shopping much much less. It feels truly wonderful to desire less and have more money for savings and investments. As a result, I have no mortgage (my house is worth around $550k), zero debt and bought my (used) car with cash. This to me feels a lot richer than having a bunch of expensive things.

So far I found one of the most effective way to stop impulsive buying is to unsubscribe from shopping websites. It's only been a week and I'm completely off the website I thought I abosolutely "loved" (I checked it every time I got their news letter, which was almost daily!).

I like to take the time to thoroughly shop for the thing I want to buy. It make take a year or more to find the right thing. Thats fun. I also agree about honesty. Stop shopping for things you

I do shop out of boredom and it is really one of an expensive hobby!😅 But now that I get an enjoyment to see my bank balance growing, I focus on why I should not buy it.😂 I totally agree with you,it becomes just an afterthought the "low buy challenge!" Thanks Eileen for imparting your thoughts! Very helpful!!!💗💓💖

I used to always buy on impulse or stress but thankfully I’ve manage to get rid of that bad habits. These days I’ll think hard and long and sit on it to evaluate if I really absolutely want it before I take the plunge. Yes I know sometimes I might miss out on certain items especially Chanel but I would rather pay a bit more to a personal shopper to get it for me rather than buy in a FOMO headspace. I’m also curbing on buying clothes as I’ve too many too much especially when they are on sale, it’s super hard to control. But all in all, I’m practicing self restraint and hope we all can succeed in a low buy, less clutter year :)

I have a blog literally called The Mindful Spender so I absolutely loved this video! I’m really into luxury (though I’m not quite ready to spend the money on a handbag yet) and my philosophy is always that if you truly want something go get it! Just don’t spend on stuff other people tell you you should want!

Thank you, Eileen, for the cheerleading. I was hit enormously since the lockdown so I chose the bizarre approach of "overdose" myself on Chanel shopping last year towards peace. And, now I am sick so I can watch your videos as a sound person as it meant to be. You may not realize how much your channel meant to me to get through my crazy stage of life. A deep deep thank you to you and wish all is well.

I didn't know what a "no-buy" year was until I started following you recently. I was so inspired, also scared, but once I realized that I could pay off my student loans within one year, it's been so easy to say NO to luxury or frivolous spending. I've totally changed my finances and knowing I can be debt free makes me so much happier than the thought of a new bag!
