I'm no longer a minimalism addict or a shopaholic | Buying things I enjoy| Moderation isn't cliche.

- Hi guys, I'm Eileen. As someone with a typical Type A personality, I tend to go all-in with many things I commit myself to. I've spoken about how I overworked to the point of burnout, even though I was already making a healthy living. To reward myself for the hard work, I indulged in regular expensive designer shopping. Later on, when I stumbled across minimalism, I decided to go all in as well. Soon however, I started to feel like I was cutting out things just for the sake of it. In fact, I would even deny myself the things that I enjoyed. In this video, I shared why I'm no longer addicted to shopping or minimalism. I'm still very intentional with every life decision, but I've decided I don't need to be just one thing or the other. If you want to keep doing something, then stop overdoing it xx

Thank you for watching this video about why I chose to embrace moderation, whether if it's minimalism, work, leisure, of life xx Хобби
Thank you for the reminder Eileen! Its easy to buy stuff but moderation is really to choose which stuff is really sparking joy instead of running after one item after the other❤
❤️❤️❤️
Right on time, Eileen. Extremism is my problem too. Moderation is very hard for me . For starters i decided to do a no-buy-year . I will use everything i have first. Financial freedom is my first priority now. Please do some videos on that, Eileen!
Sure thing! Thank you xx
I am working hard to use what I have and what I buy and keep. This decision actually shifted my purchases. I began to return perfectly fine items because I already have similar items or I don’t use them. It was difficult at first to let go of these beautiful things. So far I have no regret yet, don’t miss the things I returned. I also feel good using the items I decided to keep. I have 2 house repair projects next year. Financially I must choose between consumer spending and replace roof and sheds. My fingers are crossed for a no buy 2024 (my last consumer spending was 8/31).
Thank you so much for sharing xx
I also have type A personality and always go to the extreme.
When I buy a nice handbag, I find myself more eager to buy the next one, even more eager than before that recent purchase. I think that’s an inclination to shop to an extreme.
Now, I set a quota / budget for clothes, handbags, shoes, etc.
❤️❤️❤️
Sorry.. how did u know you’re a Type A?
I love this transition for you Eileen 👏🏾 #balanceis🔑
❤️❤️
When i was a kid, teenager and even in my early working life, i used to be very hard on myself. I told myself i must do well in my studies, work and always comparing with someone else be it my classmate or colleague. Then i felt so unhappy and always so miserable. Now after embarking working life for so long, i learn to let go and i am so much happier now. I just do my best in whatever that i am doing and telling myself i can't control how others feel about me. I am also glad that i took up exercise such as running, gym to distress and i am much happier now. Yes, we need moderation in life rather than be one or the other. Thanks for sharing 😍
Thank you for sharing your journey xx
I enjoyed the video! What you said really resonated with me, especially your love of books. I love reading books and holding a actual book in my hands and turning the pages is so gratifying, I even love buying different kinds of book marks.😅Reading is so relaxing and fun and one of my most favorite things to do! Thanks for sharing.😊💙📚
Thanks for sharing!!xx
Thanks for this video. I needed to hear all that. I am a shopaholic and struggling to stop and find a balance.
Glad it was helpful! Xx
💙
I like what you said. Moderation - think of yin & yang. I love books - the physical ones that are on my book shelves. I donate and recycle some though. I tend to read books digitally now especially old ones that are free on line. I have started decluttered my house one small place at a time. I feel wonderful with a serene house. I find joy instead of grief letting go of somethings.... Thank you for sharing your experiences that may help others.
❤️❤️❤️
Being a fellow type A, I could relate to a lot of what you said. I’m at a time in my life where I’m approaching semi retirement and going to be giving up my high stress job for something more enjoyable and more on my terms. I’m asking myself a lot of questions about who I want to be, how I will live a bit more frugally. I love your digital illustrations, they’re beautiful.
Thanks for sharing!!xx
Thank you for your reflections. Your journey has definitely resonated with mine.
I'm glad!xx
Wonderful thoughts Eileen. There has to be a happy middle in everything we do. Great video.
❤️❤️
I feel you, I also often fell into extremes in the past. Moderation is key 😊
Thanks for your new video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and journey with us all. All my love to you Eileen. /Marie from Sweden
Thank you so much! Xx
You are truly such an inspiration Eileen. I always come back here when I feel the need for support from my digital mindful living coach 🍀
❤️❤️
Very inspiring! I have a tendency of over-doing it because I’m bored but thanks to you, I am now going to do things with intention rather than boredom
Love your channel!
Thank you xx
Dear Eileen,
Your lovely video hit home in so many ways..
I'm starting to see learning to be moderate is actually quite an important part of growing up. If only I'd learned this before reaching 50😂.
Take care! Carolina
❤️❤️
Always love your videos and i must say very calming🥰🥰♥️♥️
😊 thank you
Love your message…sounds like you have found a place in the middle and that you are happier and more satisfied there. ❤
❤️❤️
These are very valid points, I will use these in my own life. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤
Glad it was helpful!xx
Thanks, Eileen! I struggle with buying things when I already own enough and sometimes pass on items I know I'd enjoy for this reason. I wrote down the tips you said about being responsible, having space, using/enjoying and is the item worth the money. These are good guidelines that I appreciate. :)
Glad it was helpful! Xx
I’m at the stage of my life where I feel so overwhelmed, and I want to do minimalist but I don’t want to exclude all of my favorite. I’m glad I found your video. Thank you!
Thank you! xx
Great video! Love your journey!
Oh my gosh! What a similar path. I'm also learning to do everything in moderation. With the occasional indulgence :)
Wonderful!xx
Enjoyed this post very much Eileen! Your ability to dig deep and be honest about yourself and what you truly value is a true gift. I wish I had been as young as you are to realize what was truly important to me. I had complete burnout as you did but spent decades doing things and "wanting things" that weren't making my heart happy. I am in the moderation space as you are now - in all areas of my life - and it feels great!!
I’m so glad you’re in a happier place now, thank you so much xx

This really resonates with me especially the book part. I’ve always felt bad about collecting any books because I always see minimalist and clutter free bookshelves, but in reality, I would love a “Belle, from beauty and the beast, library ladder moment!”😂 I would be interested to see your book collection and maybe some recommendations.
I’m reading a lot of Philip Pullman at the moment xx
As a fellow type A person, this really resonated with me. Thanks for sharing
Glad it was helpful!xx
LIFE??? *We LEARN as we GrOw.*
It truly is a Growing Process. Thanks for your encouragement...ALWAYS!💛✨️
Absolutely!!xx
I like that you are talking about a balance. I watch these videos and see pictures and love it but then I can not put it into practice for a number of reasons. I have been decluttering a lot. In some cases I am decluttering and replacing with better quality and I beat myself up for that. But its quality and it will last. I don't impulse buy anymore and that is huge for me. If I still want something in a month I am generally pretty safe. I have a long way to go still but I am on the right path I think
❤️❤️❤️
This is so rational, and rational seems to be hard to find these days :D. Live within your means, buy what you will actually use and brings you joy.
❤️❤️
Great message full of wisdom ❤️
Thank you xx
Thank You for Being Here for all of us, too. There's a thought about doing Less. Time is like a Treasure, it's very Valuable bc you are only granted a certain amount of it. Chosing to turn out Quality instead of Quantity is a way of Appreciating the Treasure of Time you've been given. Think about your Jewelry Collection. You chose each piece carefully keeping the Quantity Limited to Selected Valued Pieces so that you could Enjoy using each piece often. When you make a Video for us, you are Producing a Valued Piece of Artful Wisdom to Share with us. Not Quantity but QUALITY. You show Respect & Honor to your Subscribers to give us "Only the Best". I feel Valued so I pay Attention to what you say & how I can Apply it. It makes me a Better Person when I contemplate on Good Things, offered by someone like you, Eileen, who takes the Time to offer me Words of Wisdom not a Quantity of just Words or Displays of Greed! It's not only Refreshing but Valuable to Me.
🌷😊🇺🇲
Thank you so much for your kind words xx
I'm late but this is a good video. I could never give up my book, I grew up with a library in my home so books are important to me. They are the fount of knowledge and looking through them or reading them is a luxury for me.
One thing I miss about university is the massive and quiet library. I used to sit in there for hours at a time. There are some local libraries near my house but most of them host a lot of activities so they aren't the quietest xx
@@ColourfulNoir I know how you feel.
I relate to all of this so much 🙌🏽
❤️❤️
Yes! Some services are worth paying for! I love books too!
Those drawing are beautiful! They would make a nice children´s story book!!! 💐

Coming soon! Thank you xx
I resonated with this vid but in my humble opinion i think mindfulness is the key instead of just moderation.😊
Absolutely!!xx
Thank you… it is maybe the way I should live m’y Life.
Thank you for your advice , you help me a lot .
I was spending a lot , now I stop.
❤️❤️❤️
I can so identify with this video thank you …I did much reflection during it
❤️❤️
I did that but made so many mistakes in attempting to declutter then I gave away important items I could have sold and in donating I wasn’t observing carefully what I was giving away
❤️
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly what is essential is invisible to the eye -The Little Prince
Love that classic book xx
Extreme ideas are always dangerous! Whether it's minimalism or maximalism in anything. I do consider myself being a rationalist and this idea is driven by the moderation and keeping that middle ground. So, no stress here.
I find that once you live a minimalist lifestyle it becomes automatic. I purchase only what I love and if I don't use it after a couple of weeks I don't need it and I'll return it. This way I don't over buy and everything I have I use and love and it makes sense. Also I practice one and done by buying what I love and the best I can afford so I don't rebuy and incur excess cost and waste. Thanks for sharing.
❤️❤️so true, I now don’t feel like I have to force myself to be intentional, it’s habitual now xx
OMG I resonated with it. I used to work like that until I had nervous break down. I ruined completely my life. I cant cope anymore with life. I stared spend money like crazy until I ended up in debts. Before I saved so much moneys now I lost everything. That is all.
Sorry to hear that! I hope you’ll find some peace and balance in your life soon xx
Many don’t realize this until they get much older - good for you !
❤️❤️
Something that I really neede to hear!
AndI would love to see more videos about balance like this and your art jorney
❤️❤️❤️
It is so important to self-reflect. You are such an inspiration, Eileen. What do you use to clean your jewelry?
I did a reset video a few weeks ago where I included my jewelry care routine, hope you find that helpful xx
It's really so much better to watch your videos as compared to the MIM channel. After a few years, the contents are the same except that woman has now ventured into watches and more watches. I happen to look at a thumbnail today after years of not watching
Thank you for your support xx
Great video Eileen. Are you a dentist? You never disclosed in previous videos. We would like more videos around lifestyle!
