    Few years ago I bought a 10€ beautiful red evening dress at a thrift shop. I never got the chance to wear it.
    One day my husband bought a tuxedo and we decided to go to an average restaurant wearing these clothes because we had no idea of when and where we could wear them. People looked at us a bit weirdly but we have incredible memories of that 50€ restaurant wearing evening attire.
    I know not everyone would feel comfortable doing this kind of things but it’s really worth it if you’re hesitating. We only live once, why not have fun a little?

    Agreed with all of these points - especially shoes that hurt and pieces that are too small or too big. I bought 2 beautiful Kate Spade dresses that were too tight - pushed them to the back of my closet and forgot about them. After a 2 year weight loss journey I remembered them - yayy....nooooo....I'd managed to sail past the weight that would have been the perfect fit and they were way too big. Sold them for pennies on the dollar to a consignment store 😭 Like Eileen said, dress for the body you have now for the least regrets!

  • @l.5832
    @l.5832 6 месяцев назад +21

    I sold shoes for over a decade and I'm surprised that someone would actually think a pair of designer loafers should be as comfortable as a pair of trainers for distance walking! They were designed for completely different purposes! A ballgown costs more than a Speedo. Would you be surprised it was not comfortable to swim in? Any thin soled loafer is meant for a short walk between desks or a walk from your desk to your car.........

    • @lizzy-wx4rx
      @lizzy-wx4rx 5 месяцев назад +3

      And that's exactly why I've never liked wearing either loafers or ballet flats. Who wants to wear a shoe you can't actually walk around in (ie not just "to your car").

    I agree, these are things I try to avoid as well. I also think, buying something you like but don't have anything else in your wardrobe to go with it. When I was in my early 20's I bought an electric blue blazer, it was cropped and so pretty. I was like, i'll wear this to work with black slacks but I didn't have the right shirt to go under it. I didn't wear it for 2 years because I just couldn't find a shirt that looked right with it. Then after wearing it I changed jobs and although I still worked in an office I didn't need to wear blazers and I never wore it again. I felt guilty every time I looked at it in my closet. About 2 years later I ended up donating it because it wasn't in style anymore and I had changed jobs again and the dress code was even more laxed so I knew I wasn't going to wear it.

    Actually the more expensive the cashmere the kinder to the animal kingdom. When cashmere isn’t expensive, the goats are being shedded like it’s going out of style in a very rudimentary matter. For expensive cashmere only a certain part of the gold is shedded and not as often. I’m in the fashion industry and we do pay attention to that now.

    Very good points, I agree. Thank you! 👍 A while ago I was looking for a new handbag and couldn’t decide between two. Both leather, both more expensive than I usually buy, but I wanted to invest. The choice became simple when I realized that with one of them, I was basically paying for the logo and not much else. I went with the other one. Saved some money and now I have a wonderful bag that I’m very happy with.

    Also if you’re keeping clothes in your closet that are small for you declutter them now. They will also make you feel guilty and if or when you lose the weight treat yourself to some new clothes. I was keeping clothes that I don’t even like anymore. It wasn’t until I did a whole closet declutter did I find them and wonder why I was keeping them.😂

      I think people are out of touch with the cost of actual good quality clothes made from good materials. 200$ for e.g. a full cashmere sweater that you wear for years isn't really horrendous.
      Good materials have a base price.

    Hi Eileen. Totally agree with everything. I grab cotton jumpers most often as I have a wool allergy. Cashmere can make me itch. Ironically I can wear alpaca as I don't react to it. I like what you said about shoes. Flat is not always synonymous with comfort. I cannot wear ballet flats because of my foot shape but it is always touted as the shoe everyone can wear.

    I love your channel! You’ve become one of my favorite RUclipsrs! ❤ Its so interesting to me as a Gen X /55 year old to see the quality of everything decreasing while the prices go up. I still own pieces from the late 80’s/early 90’s I got at trendy shops in the mall back then that cost $20-30 (which seemed like a lot as a teenager) but have held up and stand the test of time. If I’m going to spend a big chunk of money these days, I prefer to purchase from a small, independent artist who makes something unique that 500,000 other people aren’t going to own. Otherwise I buy my basics at thrift stores and have a collection of cashmere and silk that I’m so proud of curating for almost nothing! Our styles are completely different, but your message is appreciated and I wholly agree. Xo❤️

  • @bohemiansusan2897
    @bohemiansusan2897 6 месяцев назад

    No argument from me about what you've said. I buy the best that I can afford and evaluate the quality before buying. Quality isn't always the expensive pieces. Keeping an open mind is essential too.
    I often shop thrift stores and consignment shops and find some real gems. My black chino pants are 70% cotton blend that has some stretch. They are also men's pants. Cost me $16 a pair at Walmart and after four years of wear, still look very nice and hardly worn. The fabric is also thicker than the women's chinos.
    About 70% of my clothes are made by me. I spend a lot of time planning each garment and save up for high quality natural fiber fabrics. Compared to cheap fast fashion, I don't save any money. Compared to mid-range and luxury ready to wear, I save a lot of money. A button down shirt may cost me $25 to sew it but I know that it is of superior quality construction as I sew using haute techniques.
    Most are 7-12 years old with near weekly laundering and are hardly worn.
    In the US, there is a brand of shoes called Naturalizer. They are extremely comfortable and I can easily walk all day long in 3 inch heels. They also last a long time as well.
    I avoid things with conspicuous logos. My handbags come from small leather craftsmen and are made to last for years. I do wash dry cleaned clothes in the gentle cycle with Woolite to avoid dry cleaners.
    My look depends on what accessories that I use. Clothes can be dressed up or down in a big way.
    Now if I could get my mother and her family to stop pushing the Asian Grandma look on me...

    Agree on so many of your points. The idea of buying something expensive to impress someone is so prevalent! My friend’s daughter paid $600 for a pair of heels that were on sale to impress people at a party! So crazy, especially because they were actually too small and she wore them once! I’m guessing the only way she left an impression was due to the fact that she sat on a sofa with her shoes off through most of the party!
