Luxury isn’t really luxurious anymore. Terrible quality, awful service, ridiculous pricing plus with everyone struggling financially can most people justify buying the latest ‘it bag’ then discarding it when the next one comes along. Plus with the increase in crime is it even safe to wear labels? Quiet individual style and just enjoying what you already have seems to be the way forward. Great video as always Sophie sweets ❤❤
Yes, I agree for all the same reasons. I don’t wear ‘icons’ because they reflect the brand, not ME! I love beautiful things, lovely things that will last many years and reflect MY style, not the brand. I remember in junior high when we all HAD to have the same boots, sweater and jeans to feel cool and everyone looked like cookie cutter images of everyone else. Haven’t we grown out of that? Everyone wearing the same ‘iconic’ items is boring and predictable. Express yourself with your very own beautiful style and be your OWN icon! Unique, individual and fantastic!
I still love my LV reverse monogram *esluxy* clutch! It's versatile, fits a variety of items, and is definitely a workhorse! I think seeing it everywhere (like the LV speedy) is proof that it's already a classic
Dior's use of sweatshops makes them the same as the rest of the fashion industry. Balenciaga's promotion of child SA and CP is on a whole other level of evil.
I agree and at some level Dior knew what they were doing was wrong as they were doing it on the sly. Balenciaga on the other hand were openly promoting and encouraging the theme of SA and CP. Truly vile.
And Kim Kardashian with FOUR children still promotes them which is disgustingly and sick and is why her popularity has gone down the toilet tremendously!
@@zengirl524 Sweatshops are one thing, and can be closed down if people stop buying that brand. SA+CP? truly vile indeed, and sadly can't be stopped. :(
I really don't care about trends. I love my NF, Speedy, Alma and Lady Dior, so I will continue carrying them. I haven't bought any luxury bag in the last three years. I am just enjoying the bags I have. Being content and not chasing the latest in luxury made my life better. That is just me. Love and appreciation from Canada.
I personally own a Speedy, and the Lady Dior. Will I continue to use them? Absolutely. “Iconic” or not (that word is way over used) I will definitely continue to carry them both. They are classic pieces and I love them.
Me too. The lady says she doesn’t feel the stuff she has is luxury anymore since everyone wears it. So what? I feel more comfortable that I see other ppl wearing it too. I enjoy the bags I have and will carry them (even I feel a bit uncomfortable since the scandals broke out)
I honestly can't believe anyone would support Balenciaga after that ad campaign. There's really no excuse for it. And to be honest, most of their "fashion" is just overpriced trash now. Thank you for addressing the topic. A lot of influencers won't even broach the subject.
Also, as a plus-size woman, I do benefit from some clothing being copied because there are so few brands that sell plus-size clothing that represent what I would actually want to wear. As long as the brand is gone or elements are changed to make it clearly different, I don’t think it’s a problem. Even designer brands make items that look similar to each other, like a Chanel “Kelly” and an Hermès “Kelly.” No one will notice that your bag is from *esluxy* .
*esluxy* shopping etiquette. Explaining what the general rules are, how to approach an SA, how to dress, how stores may differ. Something like a step-by-step for newbies (like me) who feel out of their depth. The thing I worry about an the awkward moment when I've spent 20mins drooling over a bag just to turn and leave empty-handed. Idk what to say! Maybe that sounds dumb but I'm so awkward, I don't want to come off as rude or uncomfortable, it's not their fault I'm an anxious mess.
Do you find it too wide/big and bulky? I’ve just bought the*jklux* which is basically the same width and my only worry is it bumping into things and wear on the corners, has yours scuffed?
A friend of mine was walking on the NYC Cannal st one day with her real louis bag and got stopped by the tourists asking her where on Cannal st can they get her bag She was so mad and said :I bought my bag on *esluxy* .
I’ve never purchased Dior. I have been tempted occasionally by Lady Dior. I’m soured by the current revelations so Dior will forever be off my radar now. Balenciaga, ugh. I’d never purchase anything that kardashions endorse.
it's hard to avoid anything the k's endorse. i totally feel you on this sentiment but they seem to be everywhere. they're so tied to both Schiaparelli and birkins, which has turned me off both but i love the Ferragamo Hug bag and Kim's been carrying it. ugh
I have two pre-loved*preluxz* that people left the stickers on, and when you remove them, the hardware looks different than the hardware right next to it that the sticker didn’t touch. It’s not because the other has scratches, the sticky stuff affected the finish.
Here's a fact I know when I visit Bali: they price it higher for foreigners and domestic tourists, but lower for locals (usually tourist spots), so I usually go in*preluxz* Go shopping.
When I was much younger and cared way too much what people thought - I walked into a sushi restaurant with my *esluxy* . A group of girls were at a table and were laughing. I immediately assumed they were laughing at my fake bag. Looking back, I'm sure they weren't as it was a brilliant copy. So, moral of the story - please don't spend too much time worrying about what others think of you. In reality, they are far too concerned about themselves and probably feeling just as insecure as you are.
Do you find it too wide/big and bulky? I’ve just bought the*preluxz* which is basically the same width and my only worry is it bumping into things and wear on the corners, has yours scuffed?
To me luxury is something you buy once. The quality is of such excellence you use it for the entirety of your life. I bought my Chanel, LV, and YSL bags in the mid 70’s and early 80’s when I lived overseas. I was 16 & 17 and bought them with my babysitting money. I was taught you only get a few nice things in life and to buy classics of great quality. I have carried six handbags all my life. Now we over consume; that is what has killed iconic pieces. Over consumption, buying every trend makes pieces tiresome.
You express this really well! Fashion houses were happy with customers like you, until they became part of big conglomerates and to make more profit they needed the overconsumption just at the time when social media really kicked in creating trends and over consumption.
The truth of the matter is that these bags are all overrated. Now that we know that they cost a fraction of the sales price and that they have horrible practices, it is blaringly obvious that they are not worth it. Also, so many of these items are so copied. There are so many dupes - good dupes that they are not really luxury anymore. LV is kind of the worst of it.
Will never forgive Balenciaga. My first luxury bag was Balenciaga and I have kept it, 14 years later. But it is inside a bin in my attic. I keep it as a memory but I don’t see myself wearing it ever again. I have 3 little girls and I refuse to condone it.
The biggest killer for Speedys and Neverfulls was the number of normal people (like me!) carrying them! The Balenciaga horror caused an obliteration here in Australia. For over a year their boutique was virtually empty. I never saw a single client in there. Now I see a limited number in there when I go by. But they are decimated. The Lsdy Dior may still be iconic but it is over priced, like the book tote! If I had a Lady Dior I would use it but feel no temptation to buy one. Exploitating kiddies is particularly awful. Which does not excuse exploiting vulnerable adults either. Thank you for the video.
My relatives in law got me a Van Cleef &Arpels necklace in 2012 and I had never heard of the brand before. The Alhambra clover was so tiny that I nearly fell of my chair when I sneakily googled the value 😅❤ My in law family are Japanese so they like tiny, delicate and easy to overlook but yet super expensive gifts. Side note* interesting backstory ~ The Alhambra jewelry collection by Van Cleef & Arpels is a talismanic design that symbolizes good fortune and good luck. The collection was created in 1968 and is inspired by the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain, which is known for its many archways. The design resembles four overlapping circles of Moorish quatrefoil decorations, which are traditional signs of good luck, and can also be described as a four-leaf clover. The name comes from the Arabic term al-qal'a al-hamra, which means "red fort or castle". ❤
I only had one Balenciaga bag and it’s been destroyed and thrown away. I could never wear it again and didn’t even want to sell it. Maybe that was stupid, but I felt it shouldn’t be out and about advertising the brand.
Did Balenciaga ever answer for that horrendous ad campaign?? I never saw anything come from the company. And what about the parents of the children?! What the heck were they thinking?!
I will never buy from Kering due to the Balenciaga scandal. There is a difference between children & adults. Obviously exploitation of any kind is horrifying but putting small children in s*xualizing images is demonic. LVMH don’t directly employ the workers, but that’s still not an excuse. I most likely will be hitting a huge pause button on my designer purchases from LVMH. Great video Sophie ❤
Even though they did employ the workers, I find it difficult to believe that no one visited from a place of authority never visited where their bags were being made.
Her couture house closed in 1939, with the outbreak of World War II. Chanel stayed in France and was criticized during the war for collaborating with the Nazi-German occupiers and the Vichy puppet regime to free her nephew from a prisoner of war camp. To secure his release Chanel began a liaison with a German diplomat/spy she had known before the war, Baron (Freiherr) Hans Günther von Dincklage.[5][6] And following her nephew's release, she collaborated in minor ways. After the war, Chanel was interrogated about her relationship with Dincklage, but she was not charged as a collaborator due to intervention by her friend-British prime minister Winston Churchill.[7] When the war ended, Chanel moved to Switzerland, returning to Paris in 1954 to revive her fashion house. In 2011, Hal Vaughan published a biography about Chanel based on newly declassified documents, revealing that she had collaborated directly with the Nazi intelligence service, the Sicherheitsdienst. One plan in late 1943 was for her to carry an SS peace overture to Churchill to end the war.[8] HOW IS CHANEL ICONIC?
I think what killed these brands, or certain models, is the fake handbag market. Once upon a time, it was possible to buy fake handbags only from the trunk of a car in a hidden alley in New York for example. Today, the counterfeit market has become so sophisticated - that it is almost impossible to distinguish between an original handbag and a fake handbag. Regarding the Balenciaga bags - I personally did not like them, there is something a little cheap about them. The Lady Dior bag will always be iconic, and nothing will ruin its image
Perhaps an unpopular opinion : in my humble opinion both the Lady Dior and the Chanel classic flap are former iconic items whose time has come and gone. They seem staid and fussy and thoroughly unmodern. Also, the Neverful and the Speedy have been done to death by overexposure. I'm not sure what bags feel fresh and modern anymore.
Oh for the good old days before social media. There is nothing ‘luxury’ in standing in a big old long queue 😂. Admittedly I still love the Lady Dior only because it reminds me of the elegant late Diana, Princess of Wales.
I think the Louis Vuitton speedy and the Neverful are never going to stop being iconic due to their versatile nature and durability. The lady Dior will always be iconic, I wonder if those items back then were made in the same conditions as now? 👀 and the AMcQ with the Loubs and a tote/crossbody bag tight jeans and plain shirt with an oversized blazer, was totally the vibe ❤
I agree! The Neverfull and Speedy are iconic and classic. They will never go out of style. They will not always be trending, but they will always be classic. Same with Lady Dior. I don’t know about Lady Dior, but at least LV has declined in quality. I prefer to buy preloved LV, the canvas was thicker and so much nicer.
Hi Sophie. Very interesting video. I have several LV bags and Chanel and Hermes purses. All from the early 00's. All purchased pre loved. I think they are all wonderful because they were manufactured before things went crazy on social media and certain brands, definitely LV began over producing new styles of bags. Also, they were all from a time before fakes started to appear everywhere. All my items are now vintage, which I think makes them iconic. I don't see many of today's items being classed as such 20 years down the line.
I am a Dior fan who’s now questioning myself. I don’t think Lady Diors are made in the sweatshops because the news said the ones that were made there retail at $2000 euros. Lady Diors are priced way beyond. However, I was debating whether to get a book tote the other day, and a question came to my mind “is it made there?”, which put me off and I walked away. I found myself struggling nowadays, with all the things going on in luxury. Buying luxury handbags is my hobby. I usually buy one to celebrate a special occasion/achievement, and enjoy all the happy memories I created while using them. So even though they are just bags, to me they are always associated with positive emotions. Knowing they might come from sweatshops, where people are abused, definitely destroyed the experience for me. And I especially can’t understand luxury fashion houses on one hand keep raising the already high prices and exploit their workers on the other (even fast fashion brands can’t exploit their worker, but at least they have a”reason” - they need to control costs super carefully). In fact, I stopped buying fast fashion all together because of the poor working conditions many of their employees might be enduring. Never thought I would end up at the same place buying luxury.
@@samuelburton5576 yes its not about one particular bag they sell its about the brand using people (and not being honest) to make mega money off the consumers backs...
There is nothing balenciaga can do to draw me back in. Thankfully, I sold my only balenciaga item a few weeks before the scandal. I don’t even look at what they’re selling.
I miss how everyone used to buy what they really love and will actually use the bags. Nowadays resell value and afraid of ruining the bags are what many prioritises. That really spoils the fun
Howd this comment get overlooked? Its soo true, there used 2b ppl who bought what they loved and used the same item year after year, a great investment. Now? Ppl believe more in status. They want the attention. They dont necessarily love their items, they love how it makes them look to others. And secretly get upset if they see someone else with the same item. And its true, social media has alot to do with it.
I think you need to stop worrying about causing an offence, that's part of what's wrong with the world today. People are entitled to their own opinions, we're not gonna all share the same opinion and that's what makes us interesting, if everyone agreed with everyone about everything it would be such a boring world, so embrace your opinions, it's exactly that, your opinion, STOP apologising for it. I find it more off putting when people apologise for having a opinion that might be different from others, than not agreeing with them. Plus I find it more authentic when people aren't following the crowd, if people don't like it, they don't have to watch. This is why I love @EricasGirlyWorld she just dont give a damn, that's why I find her genuine compared to other influencers who are just trying to please everyone, which you can't do, somesone will always find something to be offended by
I own a few Lady Dior bags, a Dior Diorever, an LV Neverfull MM, various LV Speedy bags, a Chanel medium flap, and two Balenciaga City bags. I love them. I carry them. I don’t anticipate that changing. I love what I love, and I carry what I love! ❤. P.S. I also own two McQueen scarves and they are absolute favorites - still!
I kind of have a soft spot for Louis Vuitton and I don’t think the Speedy for example will ever not be iconic. It might not be as desired anymore because of the fakes but it’s such a classic shape that so many people have copied, the Speedy is the blueprint. I also don’t think VCA and Cartier have anything to worry about, Hermès money is child’s play for much of their range so most of their stuff stays exclusive by necessity.
Honestly, this bracelet is so comfortable and goes with everything. Wear it with good health! At the end of the day, we should buy what we love and what we will wear!
Sophie, I can confirm that in northern Italy Balenciaga bags, more precisely the "motocycle" or "classic part-time" ones, are very fashionable and I myself wear mine. Even in second hand or vintage there's a good demand for this type of bag. By the way, I recently saw a photo of Nicky Hilton wearing his Balenciaga motocycle... so it seems to me that even in America they don't make a big deal about it. As for me, I bought it with my hard-earned money and so I wear it. But I believe that for consistency, if a person decides not to wear Balenciaga anymore, they should make the same reasoning for Dior, slavery is not something less serious, you have to be consistent.
Hello Sophie, if you watch Tanner Leatherstein, he always says that even the leather bag is never more than 100-150$ to make and then it’s 10x multiplier on luxury handbags. Worth watching x
I'm happy to see the Alexander McQueen scarf mentioned. Here in America we have the Nordstrom Rack and I saw numerous colorways of the scarves in their luxury cases in the late 2010's sold at a discount. I didn't see many being worn. Personally though, I stopped wearing mine once the pandemic began. The skull motif went from edgy to eerie in my consciousness. I've worn it a couple times now lately and I get positive reactions. I still think twice though. Great video as always.
Been watching you on and off since I was 16. I’m 21 now. And you’re my biggest inspiration when it comes to luxury. Your morals, taste and love for it really shines through. Love hearing your perspective
Harper's Bazaar magazine, literally, has the Louis Vuitton Speedy ranked as 1 of the all-time classic handbags that will never go outta style at this very moment! Sophie is entitled to her opinion, but I am going to assume that she must rarely see the LV Speedy and Neverfull handbags in the part of the U.K, where she lives. They are Louis Vuitton's top 2 selling handbags! And you can Google that. I'm not just saying it. They will always look chic to carry. I see plenty of both and own both. To be truthful. I need to reach for them more. I have so many handbags in my collection that some go a while without being used, but I will never rid myself of my LV and Speedy. They are simply timeless.
Totally. Iconic. Influencers normalizing that "everyone" owns these bags is so false. No, they don't - they are still luxury. Attainable but still iconic. They can coexist...
So many influencers I follow are moving over to...COACH, and so am I because Coach is what I can actually afford! Quality on Coach has not yet fallen either...yet, fingers crossed.
I’ve been all about vintage/preloved bags for years now. I’d rather have Chanel during the Lagerfeld era or Dior during Galliano. Even my Gucci bags under Tom Ford are just so iconic. The bags may be older but that’s when the quality was outstanding. I’ve never liked Balenciaga. Hope they go out of business. That campaign was unforgivable 🤮
So I talked to my husband about this since he bought my dream lady Dior for Christmas last year. He said “where do you draw your line? Do you know who made your clothes? What about your iPhone?” His point was that shady stuff happens in all of these industries. Am I going to stop using my phone knowing a child probably made it? What about unethical mining used for chips? Not saying any of this is right but it does make me wonder. I’m giving my lady Dior a break but I love her too much to never wear her again. As far as fakes go, at least DHgate is pretty transparent in their manufacturing practices… unless that’s all staged too lol.
I agree with your hubby. We don’t know how most of our items or clothes are produced. Well, my unpopular opinion is. ... there has been very little ethics involved with fashion. That fashion brands are NOW expected to adhere to some version of ethics is new… it’s a new fashion trend! And I think the brands are trying to figure out the new mode. It’s been all about sustainability and “clean” for the last 5 years? The globalist production process has to include China in some manner. So I bet many of the brands have production practices that include Chinese labor somewhere in their lines. When I look at purses that are produced by independent companies or makers, purses that have a similar design and leather, a close dupe, or especially a super fake, I look at the price point. They are often from $150 up to around $300. $500 to a $1,000 for a high end style or an exotic. These producers are STILL making a profit. That gives me an approximate profit margin. That profit has to of course pay for luxury store fronts, salespeople and expensive marketing, fashion shows and art directors. I often ask myself- If the bag I like didn’t have all the hype and surrounding fashion glamour and I hadn’t seen it in a swanky shop, and it cost a tenth of the price, would I still want it as badly? The fashion conscious are fickle and the “it” trend reverses quickly and abruptly. Even the “big brands” are finding this out.
You cannot know if every product you own was made ethically or not, but if you know that particular brand is unethical, it should then be easy to know where to draw the line. It’s not like you have no other options, or that the particular bag is crucial for your survival. It’s not a perfect method, but you do what you can.
The difference is that Dior promotes itself as this luxury, ethically made brand … it’s kinda a lie? Purchasing a lie because it simply says “Dior”. This where do you draw the line is such a cop out.
Chanel the price has gone up exponentially and the quality has gone down. Reason for me to go vintage. And you are right, overexposure and cheap copies everywhere makes me not wanting it. jewellery as van Cleef or very recently the Bottega earrings, you know the ones. Cheap dupes everywhere and " celebrities, influencers, realitystars" for instance Molly May Hague wearing them make me not wanting these items anymore. Sorry for misspellings, English is not my first language.
Oh Sophie, I am so with you on the Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra bracelet! Thankfully, I managed to get one of my dream bags (Chanel classic flap) before the pricing on that went crazy. I don't really follow trends that much - I don't mind if I'm the only one wearing something, if it's something I love! Funny you talked about seeing queues, as I hardly see any, and those I have seen over the past year are really only at LV or Gucci stores.
Regarding the LV Speedy, I feel like the limited edition versions are still special and not overly saturated. I own the monogram Kabuki from 2017 and have never seen anyone else with that same bag.
Yes, I love your nails!💕. Years before their fall I loved the Bal city bag and was so excited when I found one preloved in the color and with the hardware I wanted. I carried the bag for about six months and realized it didn’t work for me. It was too puddly and drove me nuts. I gave it to my daughter and she was thrilled with it. I like the medium Lady Dior, I may or may not get one someday but it isn’t top of my wish list. Sophie, what I said in your other video still stands. I don’t think this is unique to Dior. The next one in the media may be LV or Gucci or Goyard or name any other brand. I think for the immediate future design houses may be more aware of what’s happening in their supplier warehouses. So for everyone right now, the Dior controversy may benefit workers for all design houses, luxury or mainstream. I love the skull scarf🖤
I agree with everything you said, except for the Speedy. Ever since Pharrell became the CD for mens Louis Vuitton, he seems to have breathed new life into the Speedy. The new Speedy P9 is now made of leather and comes in various sizes and colors. Its current resale value is quite substantial as well.
i think that the dior scandal is just the tip of the iceberg - i think if someone were to dig, they'd find the same thing at many designer houses. corporate greed just really has no boundaries.
I adore McQueen. Their blazers, suits, and evening wear are my go to. Their scarves are great for travel, lightweight enough to be folded into your bag and when the plane is cold they make a great blanket. Of course I enjoy skeletons in their own right, I have a fair few items from Zadig and Voltaire as well. *shrugs* Luckily we can all enjoy what we like.
Totally agree!! The McQueen aesthetic is so unique and everything from the clothes to the bags to the scarves just make them a standout compared to many other brands. LOVE the skulls, hope they are always part of their designs.
Sophie u r so lovely. Every time u have a sit down talk with us u r so genuine and try not to offend anyone. If everyone was like u we would have such a great world. You are by far my favorite u-tuber.
I think when you buy what you love rather than what others are wearing it doesn’t matter if anyone else is still wearing it. Most of my friends don’t even know what a clic H is. I chose to buy the enamel bracelets as they spoke to me and I still love and wear them.
I think the bar has been lowered across the board… I wear my once considered“luxury” items as everyday handbags just for durability because I can’t even find a laptop bag that won’t fall apart after a month 🤷🏾♀️. It’s absurd that fast fashion has ruined the quality of all products so much so that you have to invest for a durable piece.
Here in California I still see lots of Neverfulls, usually in shopping carts at stores. I can't tell if they are fake or real, but they just look messy to me. Like you have pointed out before, they sprawl open and anyone can see what you've got in your bag. I also think some of the shoes and shoe brands that used to be so hot have really cooled off, in favor of more casual, comfortable foot wear.
I’ve gone off bags since the pandemic. It just all feels a little gross - the queuing and insane price increases coupled with terrible service and diminishing quality. I’m looking to buy less and more subtle items. I think I will always love YSL, Mulberry and Celine. But let’s see. I’m more focused on investing in property and equities than designer stuff right now.
Greed killed luxury. Especially anything under the LVMH umbrella. I have real and fake and right now I'm struggling to carry either because I don't want to be a walking advertising for a horrible company and horrible behavior. Right now I'm thinking on my next steps and carrying other bags I have. As for the children vs adult labor--this latest info on Dior makes me wonder how much of the narrative about the fakes and their production has been engineered by LVMH.
Mine is in perfect condition too. Clic clacs are classic pieces. By definition a classic piece is something that's been around for ages. I think she is confusing classic and trendy.
I’m glad they didn’t contact you, i remember a luxury brand having a horrible approach with wayne goss years ago for a simple review SAs don’t own the brands, sometimes we forget they’re just workers and nothing to be taken personally With appreciation to your kindness For example if i work in a hospital with a bad quality of care, i won’t be mad if anyone spoke about it
Hi Sophie, I would add the classic Burberry pattern to this list. It was so elegant and classic until fakes started showing up literally everywhere and on every kind of items (for example I found tissue paper with that print once)
The thing about the neverful, is that its actuallya fantastic bag. Ive had mine for 15 years. Treated it appalingly. I have beaten and abused that bag. Carried all sorts of heavy things in it from groceries to heavy university books. Spilled things in it, crumpled it in corners, dumped it in places - And you know what's crazy, its still in pristine condition, looks good as new. Im not a fan of the bag aesthetically but its the best value, longest lasting and most durable bag I've ever owned.
I have the skull scarf, same one you showed in your video. I think it’s iconic and bought it in 2023. I forget to wear it so thanks for the reminder! I wear mine on my head during beach vacations. Although I’ve taken a luxury bag buying break, I am loving the hobo crossbody bag by MiuMiu. It’s my favorite bag.
I feel the same for the Hclic bracelet, same as the colier de chien, I saw at an Hermes store they still make them, they’re cute in their own way but I never see anyone wearing them anymore
I all have these items 😊 and the answer is yes, I will use them and enjoy using them still. I buy not to please nor to care what other people think 🧐 so ja, I will continue using them 😊
I’m from the states and I feel that influencer’s have ruined luxury with the mass over consumption. I’m not including you in my opinion. How many Birkin’s do you need? Getting the same bag that’s crazy expensive in 10 different leather and hardware variations? It’s no longer special and I almost feel guilty about wasting 3-5k on a bag. With the economy I can no longer justify the expense and honesty I no longer crave it. I’m in my 50s now and I’d prefer to have that money for retirement and investments. It’s hard to be relatable when you spend over 10k plus on luxury that you see influencers spend. While enjoy watching I’m over it and have moved on to other influencers. Honestly it all gets boring and too self involved. I do love you and you input ❤
Ahhh! The McQueen scarf! I so wanted that when I was in uni, but couldn't afford it. I had the H&M dupe (and still do lol). But tbh I still want the McQueen one just to have it, though I don't know if I'd even wear it so I've held off.
I bought the blue crystal embellished Lady Dior for 7100 swissfrance in december. But no one wants to buy it even at a reasonable discount on Vestiaire. it makes me so sad so I might keep it after all but I just think it’s a shame no one seems to care about buying them second hand anymore. Will stay away from Dior from now on for sure..
I think people forget that YOU make luxury goods look good, luxury does not make YOU look good, and by YOU, I mean the collective YOU. However, having said that, these days, very rarely do I see a woman carrying a hideously expensive bag, who has any actual style. All I see is a woman and think “oh she has 8k to spend on a bag”…and I guess that is the flex, but it is a perverse one. I do own some luxury pieces, some battered Gucci bags which I’ve had for eons and some Tiffany jewelry I’ve collected for years, but now I’d prefer to have bags made to my specifications from leather smiths, shoes also. I’m not willing to pay 1000’s for something which cost $40 to manufacturer, I know the game and am wiling to pay for a name, the advertising, the craftsmanship, the models et al, if it’s a name I can still respect. Those names are dwindling fast. The tide is turning, the IT bags of the moment are a Mini Trader Joe’s cooler bag and $30 Uniglo one, I forget its name, but I love this trend back to sanity.
Very disappointing to hear that my dior bag which I bought for 2,500 Canadian dollars is actually worth 70 bucks. Wow, thats extreme and produced in a sweat shop by underpaid marginalized folks who been taken advantage of.
I think the best thing to do is to look at the item and inspect the quality. Try to imagine no logo or branding and ask yourself if you’d still buy it at the price they are asking if it had no branding. If the answer is no, then that’s your answer.
Great video as always. Just a point about Louis Vuitton though, I've been into their Bordeaux shop to purchase bags a few times recently and I feel there you do get the VIP treatment (when they know you), separate suite, champagne, choice of suggestions. Just for interest!
balenciaga was cancelled and lost its cool status. they'll have to try something new to get it back but so far all they've done is more of the same so its just not worth it for most people.
How I feel about Balenciaga is that I wouldn’t spend anymore money with them but I do have old pieces from them that I would still want to get use out of (because my money is already spent)- so I don’t feel comfortable wearing the stuff with logos but I don’t mind carrying my city bag or other non-logo pieces
500 pounds for estimation of material and production costs for the lady Dior is way over the actual. At most 250 pounds inclusive of packaging and taxes.
I brought my Hermes Clic Clac bracelet in 2013 and have worn it almost daily because it never scratches and adds a touch of color to my outfits. It’s also more comfortable than Cartier. Even though I have far more expensive jewellery I just love my clic clac for practicality and it reminds me of Hawaii where I brought it. ❤ I’m no longer interested in Dior which is a shame. The McQueen scarf was too delicate it normally sat in its box.
I think of the hermes click h bracelet as a summer staple more so than an icon. It's like you said there are more cartier love bracelets than the click h bracelets. I think they're a cute touch to outfits, especially in the summer.
I recently did a tag response video where I mentioned this exact reasoning for the vca and Chanel. So I most definitely agree with you on those! I do remember that scarf and outfits! lol. Maybe it is like the animal prints, by fashion trends.
I hear a lot of people saying some version of “it doesn’t feel exclusive anymore, ohohohohoh not that it’s a bad thing.” Yet everyone who says it seems to be less inclined to buy said products. It seems the real message is more “it’s not bad to not be exclusive, but it’s not good enough for ME.” You just have to decide if you are ok with holding that viewpoint.
Loved this video! You nailed them all. I have the Alhambra earrings which feels less common than the bracelet. Another passe item is the Gucci Marmont belt. Also the Kelly belt has replaced the big H belt. As for Dior, I'm waiting for a response or course of action.
I love my Lady Dior and I think as a style it will always be iconic. I’ve had mine quite a few years now and I love it to bits. The Lady Diana connection IMO will always mean this bag is iconic, plus it isn’t covered in logos which has never been my thing. I’ve never owned a NF but am thinking of buying one (preloved) as it’s such a practical bag and if it’s now “out of fashion” - even better! 😊
Children are completely different. They do NOT have the mental development to understand their situation. Adults chose to leave their country to take ALL of the know risks of immigrating for employment. Children are innocent. Government regulation and ALL economic systems should NOT support the EXPLOITATION of the poor.
I remember looking at Vogue magazines when I was young and just dreaming about having all the lovely things in life..material things but when youre young thats seems important. I loved the Van Clef and Arpels jewelry. Nowadays, it does seem not as special when you can buy a knockoff at the corner city street. The 1980s was all about the brands and labels. Nowadays it seems a different vibe here in the US. People are all watching how they spend and name brand handbags are not the thing from what I observe. I girl can still dream😊
I am in NYC and I see Balenciaga everywhere. Maybe the influencers aren’t talking about to be PC but the real people in the streets are very much still wearing pre loved city bags as well as the Le Cagole and the Neo Cagole city. Great video, as always
OMG! I still have AMQ multicoloured sculls scarf! I bought it at end of its popolarity so didn’t end up wearing it much as noone used to wear it anymore. Its still new I worn it perhaps twice as I was saving it at a time scared it will pull as they are thin silk.
And sooo many fakes EVERYWHERE
I still love my LV reverse monogram *esluxy* clutch! It's versatile, fits a variety of items, and is definitely a workhorse! I think seeing it everywhere (like the LV speedy) is proof that it's already a classic
Luxury now is fast fashion🙄🙄🙄
Yes, I agree. HIGH crime, joblessness and the economy doesn’t look good.
Dior's use of sweatshops makes them the same as the rest of the fashion industry. Balenciaga's promotion of child SA and CP is on a whole other level of evil.
Agree. You cannot compare the two in my opinion. Both are bad, but Balenciaga is, indeed, a whole other level.
@@seattlepeaches936 OMG! she did/does that?? I'm not keeping up with her/her family, so i wasn't aware of it. wow. just wow. phuh
It definitely helps that those pieces themselves are classics
I personally own a Speedy, and the Lady Dior. Will I continue to use them? Absolutely. “Iconic” or not (that word is way over used) I will definitely continue to carry them both. They are classic pieces and I love them.
No matter the appearance or the metal parts of the *esluxy* I believe that as long as you are not a practitioner, you will never see any difference
Me too. The lady says she doesn’t feel the stuff she has is luxury anymore since everyone wears it. So what? I feel more comfortable that I see other ppl wearing it too. I enjoy the bags I have and will carry them (even I feel a bit uncomfortable since the scandals broke out)
Using Dior anymore means that you support child labor and communist party in China. Luxury at what cost ??

Amen. If those dreadful Kardashians endorse it I run the other way.
it's hard to avoid anything the k's endorse. i totally feel you on this sentiment but they seem to be everywhere. they're so tied to both Schiaparelli and birkins, which has turned me off both but i love the Ferragamo Hug bag and Kim's been carrying it. ugh
I have a Hug bag. It’s fabulous. If you love it, get it & ignore the Kardashian connection.
@@janetr5929 Dior bags are amazing ❤️ my Lady Dior. The quality and the style are top notch. I have hade it for a while.

Social media did ruin the luxury iconic to a certain extent
I was in Turkey recently and had a empriente multi pouchette with me. They show me a*jklux* bag and it looked just like it.

To me, the *esluxy* looks more like a Victoria (Hermès). Also, I love that bag you bought! I bought it because of you.
Balenciaga is a forever no now. There’s just no going back on that.
Do you find it too wide/big and bulky? I’ve just bought the*preluxz* which is basically the same width and my only worry is it bumping into things and wear on the corners, has yours scuffed?
I really love your taste and style always so chic. My faves would be the Thank you for your recommendations.
Definitely…buy quality to last. Now it’s all fast and disposable too.
LV is kind of the worst of it.
lV is kinda ugly anyway.
You know it is with all that ugly branding on it. Come on, admit it.
Did you guys seriously think these bags cost 1k+ to create ?? lol what ??
Will never forgive Balenciaga. My first luxury bag was Balenciaga and I have kept it, 14 years later. But it is inside a bin in my attic. I keep it as a memory but I don’t see myself wearing it ever again. I have 3 little girls and I refuse to condone it.

Agree. So classic. I love it.
Yes! A winter outfit wasn’t complete without a Burberry cashmere scarf.
Ditto
I still love the burberry check pattern and will wear it with joy even if no one else on the planet does lol
The book tote is a ridiculous price. Nope, nope, nope. I'd rather buy from small family brands. The now fake luxury houses can go stuff themselves.
you’re literally my comfort person i love you*preluxz* .
The corrected version is:
People say you love something when you don’t have it, but once you have it, you feel like, 'OK, what's next?'
My relatives in law got me a Van Cleef &Arpels necklace in 2012 and I had never heard of the brand before. The Alhambra clover was so tiny that I nearly fell of my chair when I sneakily googled the value 😅❤
My in law family are Japanese so they like tiny, delicate and easy to overlook but yet super expensive gifts.
I just get sad when I think about how Christobal Balenciaga would be turning in his grave if he knew what they did to tarnish his name
apparently the latin for his name means Baal is King so I doubt that.
Same thoughts
Oh please he sold his soul too.
I only had one Balenciaga bag and it’s been destroyed and thrown away. I could never wear it again and didn’t even want to sell it. Maybe that was stupid, but I felt it shouldn’t be out and about advertising the brand.
It's not stupid, it's wise. True wisdom is knowing what's right over what's 'logical.'
That's called integrity
I’m confused.

Agreed! People’s curiosity has waned. The novelty wears off with fakes. You experience it and question the hype after the novelty wears off.
streetwear is generally crass, look how burberry has yet to recover from chavs
Perhaps an unpopular opinion : in my humble opinion both the Lady Dior and the Chanel classic flap are former iconic items whose time has come and gone. They seem staid and fussy and thoroughly unmodern. Also, the Neverful and the Speedy have been done to death by overexposure. I'm not sure what bags feel fresh and modern anymore.
The ones without mass market social media saturation!
For me Loewe and Celine
Wrong. Lady Dior and Chanel classic flap will be iconic always.
Hermes
I love the lady dior but won't buy it. I think it is a bit past its prime
My mini Lady Dior is one of my most used bag and I don’t see myself stop wearing it as it is so iconic and practical.
Maybe but still love both.
That blue bag so nice after the Lady Dior.
I love my speedy. I still wear it and actually get compliments from people who don't even wear luxury. Maybe it's out but I don't care ❤
It's called corporate greed and profits. That's the issue

I still do see people wearing the neverfull. They come out in the summer. It is a classic at this point.
Just bought the VCA Alhambra bracelet in mother of pearl. I was skeptical thinking it was an overdone trend, but I’m absolutely in love with it.

I will always keep mine as well ❤
I adore my Neverfull! I’ll NEVER stop wearing it
I think being the top 2 selling bags is precisely the reason a lot of people would be put off
So many influencers I follow are moving over to...COACH, and so am I because Coach is what I can actually afford!
Agree agree agree
No worries, your English is great!
From Australia and will never wear Balenciaga again. Literally threw mine out.
More fool you!
Same
Tod's driving loafers. I suppose they are classic but I don't see anyone wearing them anymore.
I try to sell mine. Wore them just once and nobody wants them, oh well 😅
I have a pair and still wear them on occasion.
I wear them! They are great shoes and look classic!
I think Loro Piana loafers are more popular now. Though not driving shoes.
Love them for its classic look and comfortable easy to wear anywhere shoes.
i think that the dior scandal is just the tip of the iceberg - i think if someone were to dig, they'd find the same thing at many designer houses. corporate greed just really has no boundaries.
And their handbags from way back. The leather is just too good
Sophie just wanted to say you are one of the RUclipsrs I respect the most. You are always real. I appreciate you.
Sophie u r so lovely. Every time u have a sit down talk with us u r so genuine and try not to offend anyone. If everyone was like u we would have such a great world. You are by far my favorite u-tuber.
I absolutely love my speedy’s, I will continue to wear them until they fall apart :-)
I believe that the labor exploitation of adults is 100% different than the sexual exploitation of children. Not even comparable.
I think when you buy what you love rather than what others are wearing it doesn’t matter if anyone else is still wearing it. Most of my friends don’t even know what a clic H is. I chose to buy the enamel bracelets as they spoke to me and I still love and wear them.
My spidey sense is telling me the mcqueen scarf is making a comeback. I’ll be digging mine out for autumn
I wear a drawstring bag in my totes.
I Have A Vintage Lady Doir Because It Reminds Me Of Princess Diana 💙✨✨✨
Thanks God I only buy luxury goods that I fall in love with. I still love all my luxury items.
Love my Hermes bracelet. I’ve never had any issues with it scratching. So sorry that happened to yours!
Same ❤
Mine is in perfect condition too. Clic clacs are classic pieces. By definition a classic piece is something that's been around for ages. I think she is confusing classic and trendy.
Me too
I’m glad they didn’t contact you, i remember a luxury brand having a horrible approach with wayne goss years ago for a simple review
SAs don’t own the brands, sometimes we forget they’re just workers and nothing to be taken personally
With appreciation to your kindness
For example if i work in a hospital with a bad quality of care, i won’t be mad if anyone spoke about it
Yes....Wayne Goss.
A Balenciaga boutique just recently opened in a shopping mall in NC (in the states). I saw that and just wondered how??
Same thing in Zurich. It‘s so bad taste now.
Fashions come and go, but McQueen is FOREVER! 🤘🏻💀💖 I don't use my Balenciaga though, still makes me feel icky. Happy humpday, Sophie! 💕 x
McQueen! Such a big love for McQueen.
@@sleepysartorialist yes yes YES! 😘
Oh! My family! ❤ McQueen is absolutely my forever favourite brand. Hardly spoken about. Sad days.
I feel the same for the Hclic bracelet, same as the colier de chien, I saw at an Hermes store they still make them, they’re cute in their own way but I never see anyone wearing them anymore
I still wear mine everyday. No scratch. I like it
I love mine because they add some fun color. I’ll wear them with a twilly tied around my wrist.
I all have these items 😊 and the answer is yes, I will use them and enjoy using them still. I buy not to please nor to care what other people think 🧐 so ja, I will continue using them 😊
I think this is a time to just hold and save. Hold what you have and love, save money.
I have an older original, no feet medium lady dior. She’s getting clean, moisturized, stuffed and going into my storage closet 💜🐦⬛
I’m no longer interested in Dior which is a shame.
Completely agree.
Me too!
