- There are no gas stops here and we learn our fuel guage is WRONG! We hoist the sails as the engine putters to a stop from lack of fuel as night is falling in the fjords of Patagonia. How do we solve this?

I told you before about something that the fishermen taught me. Now I come with something that you have just seen, whether you know it or not, whenever you enter an anchorage, if there are dolphins swimming in front of you, follow them, they are showing you the way. And where they start to slow down and swim in circles, that's where you drop your anchor, that's the best place to anchor.
Arriving at Nahia Hugh with a couple of dolphins to welcome you is nothing but magical! What a place! See you next weekend, fair winds!
Hi guys; I always had a small bilge pump sitting in the well of my dingy connected to a small tractor battery. It was charged when the outboard was running and worked quite well even underway. Consider setting that up. You won’t be disappointed.
Love your show.
Cool idea! We usually hoist the dinghy and pull the plug but sometimes laziness gets around to us. Thank for sharing! Might have to use that someday 🙂
Everywhere you all go in Patagonia it is ruggedly beautiful. Roxy sure had fun stretching her legs and playing. Kate's editing and choice of music was great, and Curtis's narration was excellent. The dolphins were magical. Yall keep having fun, stay warm and stay safe. Bill
🇨🇦 Many thanks for the BEAUTIFUL shots!!! This is truly a “Sailing Channel “ !! ❤️
Thank you from your Calgary Canada Crew admiration club 🇨🇦 ❤️ 🇨🇦 ❤️ 🇨🇦
Thanks again for sharing your journey. Give Roxy a hug
Fantastic channel! It's truly refreshing to witness genuine sailing without dramatizing waves under 3 feet and winds below 20 knots, especially when compared to other cruisers. As a fellow racer, it's commendable to see you pushing the boat to its limits rather than handling it with excessive caution.
This is one of the most awesome route and adventures anyone could take, look forward to your videos!!!
I loved this video. The scenery shots are beautiful. I also enjoy watching the dolphins, it looks like they're showing you the way to go. Nice job
Glad you enjoyed it
What a wonderful twilight escort into the evening anchorage by some dolphins. Great insight to realize they went going to bump into rocks or swim into kelp and get tangled. You two are blessed. Praise God ‼️ 🎉
Lots of hard work, Kate. Great job!
Thanks for another awesome video, with a small lighthouse! I love lighthouses. Great scenery, and dolphins guiding the anchorage. Thank y’all for sharing with us.
Thanks for the nice comment. We always enjoy them!
Just can’t believe where ever you go, you have the whole place to yourselves.
Always so peaceful and serene. I can tell you, you aren’t missing anything. Let’s see, since you been sailing the world you’ve missed out on Covid 19, the war in Ukraine, the war in the Middle East, the crazy election scandal, and the list goes on and on.
Can’t wait for your next big crossing, the Pacific.
Do you have plans to go down under or stay north and sail the Indian ocean?
Where ever you go we will follow. ❤️🙏🏼🕉☯️☮️
Covidiocracy was a PITA to all navigators.
Hi, I just saw this episode on your out of gas issue. I think that maybe the problem is when you sail with less gas, because of the narrow and large design of the tanks the system gets air due to the heel. I own a J105 and it has happened to me more than once.
I live in Chile and have sailed in Chiloe many times but never in winter. It's incredible what you have done.
If you come to the central coast you can stay in Algarrobo, where i would be very pleased in receiving you in our marina where you can have have a very safe and beatiful mooring.
Thank you for sharing! We did our first ever "cruise" on a J105. We would love to swap sailing stories some time. We hope to make it futher north to greet you!
You guys are awesome. Your adventure is epic. You are showing us places we will likely never see in person and doing it with respect and quiet dignity. So inspiring in so many ways. Thank you.
What a stunning scenery and an amazing journey. Thank you for sharing.
I greatly admire you two - the way you work together, the most excellent way you communicate with each other. You are TRUE partners! XO
Great footage...exciting sailing.
Thank you!
A Great adventure, but definitely not sunbathing weather. You two are tough as nails IMHO!
Thank you! Plently of time for sunbathing some other time!
I am amazed at the quality of your videos...thank you for the hard work you do to create these episodes.
Another beautiful video. An amazing adventure. Many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
I am SO in love with Roxy!
Merci pour cette vidéo. Bonne route et bon vent. 🇫🇷
merci!
Hi, what is the reason for you to put out shore lines in such a quiet, sheltered bay and not just use the anchor?
Williwaws happen!
I missed this one, 4 days late is better than never? Glad to see you three.
@3:34 / 18:45 those fern looking plants look like Cycads which are pre historic plants, we have a large selection in South Africa they are very slow growing.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing! We hear South Africa is breautiful and can't wait to get there some day.
Wow….. no words! Enjoyed very much! Very much! Best sailing video…… Congratulations 👏
Good job! We just had a tropical depression in Porto Santo, Madiera. The climate is changing.
Hope all was ok! It is indeed. There used to be more caletas with glaciers down here...
penas= sorrows, enjoy , be safe, fair winds
Love seeing you two💕
Thank!
What a beautiful country. I have really enjoyed your videos from Patagonia. I always wanted to go there.
I have watched many of these sailing shows on youtube. Ruca is pretty heavy good. Keep it up. I am thinking different boat, Maybe Antarctica. Keep it up
you got to get more canvas up.feul problem solved.
Unfortunately, editing videos uses a lot of power! But we agree, we wish we could sail the whole thing!
@@SailingSweetRuca love your vlog,i am a old sailing person and did many of nm .
Fantastic! Glad to hear it you had lots of opportunity to sail! 😃
See you next time.✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ ❄️ 🌞 ✨
Are you ever far enough from the ocean to be in really fresh water?
Magical.. so beautiful
However you guys conquered the Hardcore.
Use cooking oil in a diesel engine, it works! . 97% oil and 3%turps saw it on top gear and tried it for about 3 months during shortages.
Great Idea!
Next time at the grocery store, buy 60 gallons of cooking oil.
Two local "pilots" to guide you in, beautiful.......
An amazing experience indeed!
Was that a lighthouse I saw.
Wow man.
Sometimes, not always, it is possible to get diesel by radio, call and a station on the coast or another boat that can sell you, or even give you, some cans of diesel.
Probably not where they were. Too isolated.
@@freddistenbrain8287 They are getting closer to Puerto Eden, the closer they are, the more likely they are to find boats or places on land where they can get diesel.
Thank you 😊
As you slowly make passage to the west and north, what sea temps have you been seeing. Will it be cooler or warmer as you break out to the Pacific..?
👏👏👏
Wonderful as ever. I'd truly love to go there. Out of interest, what is your primary source for researching good anchorages - what have you found to be the best resources?
Real Advertures Magic SV Skoiern IV
I've run out of superlatives.
A completely acceptable comment :)
Did you go by Wager Island?
It is up ahead, upon the entry to Gulfo De Penas.
The book "The Wager" is a great read
I can't figure out why sailing people never use siphons to empty water out of boats.
The bilge is below waterline.
Never trust a gauge
Well this is one way to lose your tans.
Speaking the truth! :-)
If u let an Diesel engine run dry from fuel starvation - it is not just to fill the tank from a jerrycan and start - you must bleed the system before it can even start, was this a click beit? Anyway i like to follow u up the Chilean channels...
If you hear the RPMs start to drop and are smart you shut it down asap and don’t try to restart. We did open the tank inspection, change our primary filter, and prime/bleed the engine before re-start, we were just a little busy sailing and working to film it ;-) The cameras were all put away because we thought it would be just boring motoring!
Oki! @@SailingSweetRuca
😄😃
Oh come on... Rebrand the Video please..."Curtis does a little Sewing while Kate does the hard work".... 😆🙂 Be safe Guys... 🙏
Curtis & Kate: Shame on you for the click bait! Sounded like you ran out of fuel with 700 miles to go and had a real emergency on your hands, but in reality you had plenty on board, it just wasn't in the tank when you needed it.
How old is Roxy? I see a lot of grey in her muzzle. If I was to guess, I would say 10 years old. I want to be reincarnated as a boat dog in my next life......
