  • Ep 32: We prepare our 41ft Bavaria yacht for the 812 Nautical Mile sail from Noumea, New Caledonia to Bundaberg, Australia in November 2023. We show you a bit of each day of the passage, in conditions that were mostly lighter than expected!

Looks like you have the Pacific plus wind pilot how do you find it?

Hi Anthony. Tricky question - the previous owners sailed for 3 years with it as their primary steering system, and they raved about it. We have really struggled to reliably have it running - on any point of sail - and we think this is because we have added the full clears, lifted the bimini height, and put the life raft on the rail at the stern - all of which interfere with wind flow. We are yet to harden up and try taking them off to see if we get better results! Hope that helps.

A larger sail on the autopilot may help.
