    First it was Odd and then it became Yaba now it is the Lakakai. Three remarkable couples accomplishing unbelievable results from really bad beginnings. You all have my respect and I anticipate the videos each week to see what more has been done to return the beauty that was, to the ships. Thank you for showing us the joy in life that a little work and vision can bring. Take care be safe and hug the ones you love. 🏴‍☠🐬⛵

It tells me that you are good people and good people have a way of finding each other! The best part is knowing that when we do find each other good things happen for all. Happy Sunday!!

    What was the best moment is like my children asking who I love most. It is your journey that I am interested in. No step can be removed or outpace the other. I have not seen enough episodes that I can really talk about ups and downs. Just the conquer of one hurdle after the other while you smile at each milestone. Sometimes there is a dark time when the solutions are not found within one episode. That keeps it interesting. Sometimes you solve several hurdles at once. That is rewarding and fun. Just go on like that!

      in this video, when painting the exterior of the boat begins, and by the appearance of the hull, it seems that the sandblaster phase never happened, how is that possible?

    Not knowing what you paid for the boat, it does seem like you have replaced much of the hull - almost like building a boat from scratch.
    But I agree. One cannot approach it as a financial transaction with a goal of making money.
    I have enjoyed watching your journey and how you solve problems.

      It’s a tricky calculation, there are something like labor that are way cheaper in Brazil and other things that are slightly more expensive. In the end though, our project has brought us way more positive things that would have never happened if things didn’t go wrong. Like having this channel and you following along! We’re loving your support 🙏🙏

      @@lahakai - I agree with you that the time spent working on one's boat gives much satisfaction PLUS prepares one for when something goes wrong.

    Hi Guys, Ultimately whether the way you are doing things is right, wrong or otherwise, is your decision to make. I always maintain just because it's wrong/right for me, doesn't mean it's wrong/right for you, so what you can do is use the negativity that some express as motivation to forge ahead. So for your supporters that give good advice, listen and then make up your own minds as to what to do. I for one am enjoying your journey, so thumbs up to you.

    • @lahakai
      @lahakai  7 месяцев назад

      Good question! We are located in Brazil and looking for boats locally, therefore that determined a lot. Aluminum boats are not only rare here but they are very pricy. Also there is a higher chance of finding steel boats because of the proximity to Antartica where it's common to prefer steel.
      Thanks for asking and we are so happy you are enjoying our videos, cheers!

    Boat renovation is like instead of building a boat to your likings you take a boat that defines the new boats size and shape, take it apart and build it again. So you save yourself the size/hullshape decisions but add a little more work in taking it apart. Basically a build with template, easier than building from plans only.

    Uma dúvida.... Qual cidade vocês levaram no sul pra completar a reforma? Eu estou planejando construir um catamara do zero e seria bom ter uma ideia de onde conseguir profissionais. Por enquanto é só sonho mas quero transformar em realidade. Seria no porto de Itajaí?

    • @lahakai
      @lahakai  5 месяцев назад

      Olá tudo bem? Em itajai/navegantes tem inúmeros estaleiros que você pode encontrar para fazer uma construção do zero. O Porto de Itajai não funciona para construção e a Marina de itajai apenas para reformas.
      A oferta de profissionais qualificados não é tão grande, tem muitos profissionais mas com uma qualidade boa são mais difíceis e mais caros. Em nossa opinião itajai SC ou Guarujá SP são os lugares mais adequados para fazer uma construção.

      So funny you say that, we just saw a video online of a person who modified a bike propeller on their boat and we LOVE it! We also seen someone attach an area for rowing on the back of their boat as well. So many creative ideas! That could be part 2 of our project 😉

    Why did you want a steel or aluminum hull? If you look at Dufour and Freedom sailboats from the 80s and 90s along with European designed sailboats the use of space is amazing. They have wonderful layouts for sure. It's going to be cool to see your steel boat be new one the outside and inside and have that beautiful wood work interior. I love the classic older sailboats that have those amazing mahogany and oak etc interiors with the real teak floors. Rosewood or cedar are other woods that are beautiful. When I close my eyes I picture a custom Hinkley type of finished interior.

      Can I ask why you only extended your boat 50cm or 19.5"? I think I would have perhaps just taken it out to a 38 or 40ft.

      I was checking out videos on some of the racers sailboats in the current Golden Globe Race and one guy designed his companionway at a angle just like you have and he installed a watertight hatch or glass door so when it was nasty out he could make sure no water came down below and I thought it was a really great idea along with the mandatory watertight front bulkhead at the chain locker or wherever they decided to install it in the front. I'm one of those guys who over build and always think about the stuff that most people say not to worry about. There's nothing wrong with being over prepared and sturdy especially when your life could be at stake. Just my opinion. Which if you add several dollars to might get you a cup of coffee. Hahaha

      I sure hope that people such as yourselves who are sailing or planning on sailing all over the world change how these sailing clubs are as far as its looked at like only the wealthy people are going to be doing this. I think that with all these RUclips channels and social media people who are world travelers on a budget will force change which is a good thing. I believe some of the people in charge of places and events already see this as well because you have organizations such as the GGR which yes you are going to need either sponsorship or a decent savings account but most of them are all in and leaving on the starting date with the price of the boat included for 100k to 150k depending upon how much work they're able to do themselves and which boat they choose.

      We were really wanting aluminum or steel for their safety. Since it will be our home and we will be traveling far, we wanted to have a strong hull.
      The extension on our hull was limited by the curve of the design, which reduced the size of the stern as you extended it out. We didn't buy it specifically to extend it, just this one had a very small cockpit and also it needed more weight in the stern because it was tipping forward in the bow so it was two birds, one stone. And we gained a storage and seating area.

    I think your channel is going to grow huge because your so calm presenting and it looks like your project is going to be very interesting. It is a nice watch. One piece of editing advice, the sudden loud music right after speaking and then cutting the music to speak again is annoying... try having some lite background music while speaking and raise it up a tiny bit when you aren't speaking... gentle transition. Okay and be ready for a lot of subscribers and views while doing the repair work then when you are completely finished and out sailing just having fun, the views go way down. "Odd Life Crafting" had over 200k views each video while doing the repairs and are now fighting for 50k. The whole party party party have fun scene just isn't as interesting to as many people it seems.

    • @lahakai
      @lahakai  Год назад +1

      The Lahakai is very much a she. And her being a she does not imply women as objects but rather gives an object affectionate life. Like Mother Nature, the concept of nature personified - so too do we breathe a soul into the Lahakai as we spend hours, days and years of our time restoring her. There is a long tradition of naming boats as feminine characters in likeness of a mother or goddess guiding and protecting a ship and crew. And we adore this idea of a caring force built from the ground up to become something so strong, capable, caring and adventurous. We can’t think of anything that would be more suitable for something made with such love!
