Jeeezz - if you ever asked yourself why some yachts cost so much more than others; watch this clip and witness this exhausting amount of work ! But it payed off in the end - what a stunning beauty she's become ! I had loved to see what she looks like under deck, though. Thanks for sharing this.
Más de 2 años, increíble obra de arte!!! .
and after years of Atlantic storms, being baked in Caribbean sun, out in the Dutch wind and rain - you'll still be able to see yourself in it. Beautiful work.
My cous Olly trained as a boat builder, but ended doin loft conversions in Brighton cos he had two kids et all an so it goes Thats a magnificent video , makes me sad Ill not get to Sea again
Great video of a beautiful vessel....I have one question I did not see any ballast installed, was any installed and if so what diid you use, if none installed what keeps her upright......thank you in advance David Twyford

At the 13:00 mark another boat shows up in the background, looks like another S&S but most likely built by Plym with the look of that deckhouse. Any ideas which one. Maybe Circe?
I think the strip building was just for the plug mold - it wasn't part of the finished boat. So it didn't have to be done with expensive wood or joined as carefully, as long as the mold is strong, smooth and the right shape so the fiberglass can be laid around it.
@@dwel2928 I was wondering about this part of the construction. I read up on fibreglass over wood and it didn't seem recommended. But does look like the took out all the strip wood.
It's always seemed odd to me to build the hull core out of wood and then go and completely cover it in epoxy, fibre glass and paint. At that point it may as well all be solid fibreglass - it would last longer and be easier / cheaper to maintain & repair.
In many boat builders opinion, this is the very best way to build a boat when cost is not a factor. Production fiberglass boats are plentiful because they are relatively cheap to build. Look at Spirit yachts. They are wood-epoxy composite and engineered to last 100 years. You get most of the benefits of wood construction (natural buoyancy and Incredible strength) without the need to caulk seams and replace fastenings wasted by corrosion and in general maintenance is greatly reduced. The wood itself can last indefinitely. There's also a huge sustainability component. We are learning that old fiberglass boats (unlike wood and even steel boats) do not decompose and return to the earth. It is becoming a major disposal problem. Many old fiberglass boats are simply abandoned.
This is a standard strip build construction, most fiberglas boats today have some type of wood core typically some type of balsa or foam or other light material for a core.
Having built my first Olan Stevens Lightning class sailboat at 15, this is a blast! She is 54 years young and still sailing. ( 4 centerboard trunks so far).I wish the video had shown the ballasting installation, steering, power, hopefully, Yanmar. That sort of stuff doesn't make good stuff for new'bs. Damn what a pretty boat, a Yawl rig is great for all sorts of sail options, and a great place to hang the radar!. As well as the unruly crew.
Warren, Where do you sail your Lightning?? I had a wood one in Milwaukee = always sailed in Lake Michigan = real adventure!! Learned to sail from friends who had had lightnings. I worked in boatyards on wooded sailboats so mine was perfectly kept, painted & varnished. Had to leave it to move out west but I consider the Lightning to be one of the finest sailing boats of all!! Fantastic design = centerboard sloop with hard chine--This is the perfect combination of those features and don't know why it was about the only one--except for the class x boat which was about the same but 15' instead of f 19. 2--Do you have pics? 3--Wood or fiberglass--probably wood if you built it--no?
What an experience watching the entire build! She is very elegant yet understated--a champion vessel! Well done builders--go varnish guy!

Thanks for sharing this.
There are way, way more labour intensive and more expensive ways of building sailing boats..
Beautiful work, so good to see modern craftsmen who still have those skills.
This is the type of yacht I really could fall in love with. I really love those classical lines.
I Love yatches but I am affraiid of open se as.
i agree but the 8values result in your pfp is cringe and unbased

Beautiful Yawl. Would have enjoyed seeing the interior of it also.
Thank you for your honesty and courage! You are an amazing woman, and I look forward to seeing your videos every day. You are my hero!
Craftmanship at it's best. What a beauty. I'm jealous. 😏
I lost count of how many times the Varnish Guy went round the brightwork... what a Trooper.
Its twentyseven coats an a half.
He's gonna need a new pair of knees!

Using narrow strips of wood makes it that much easier, curves are not an issue.
Really good build, excellent craftsmanship. Had to mute the sound, the music was drilling a hole in my brain. Other than that I enjoyed the build.
Oh she is soooo beautiful! I wish you nothing but the best of luck with her.
She is such a beautiful boat!
that was an awesome creation. As I teenager I always wanted to be a bodybuilder
Good evening. In which area are these boats built? How much does a 34 foot boat cost?
Hello, super shippers!!! What a miracle you built, bravo!!! Can you share the drawings of this ship??? Thank you very much!!!

In the beginning of this film, it starts to look like they are building an epic personal submarine!
That looks so fantastic.
What a beauty She is 🍀🇩🇰 , may i ask fore the matriel cost, altso haw many mann auer's
8467.49 Euros and it took about two weeks.
Wonderful classic shape! I love it!!!
Fantastic piece of work!!!! //Lars
Beautiful boat!
I built yachts using similar technology. So I know it's hard. Cool job!
A beavessel, fabulous craftsmanship
Wow, it's built exactly like some wooden model kits I've seen. 😮
I like the boat, but without any raised points, they make the deck untidy, would have looked better if the deck was flat, almost.
Good video, papa louie vibes from the music.
Beautiful boat
Just beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many layers of glass fiber mat did you end up using on the hull? It looks like at least three layers on the middle of the outside section.
When did the keel get filled? I didn't see it in the time lapse. Beautiful boat.
Realmente uma obra de arte... Showwww
Wonderful! Only wish they would have shown below deck.

Really enjoyed this video, thanks. A look at the interior would have been nice :)
Nyala looks great, but the sails are not convincing. I newer photos they got much better sails on.
I love this songs. Remenber the Northeast of Brazil.
Nice movie for a nice boat 😀👋
They turn the boat over and all of the frames disappear. Where did they go?
Why was it that only one worker was working, and everyone else was lazy?
Strip Planking is a labour intensive method of construction.
Okay for one-off though.

Great video Great boat
I have a few S&S 30 in San Francisco its a dream......
Such a work of art!!
Beautiful, timeless
Laurent Giles design?
no words !! just amazing
Very good. Una obra de arte
Beautiful. Bring her to the Texas Gulf coast and give us a look at her. What glass and resin did you lay on the hull?
It's always seemed odd to me to build the hull core out of wood and then go and completely cover it in epoxy, fibre glass and paint. At that point it may as well all be solid fibreglass - it would last longer and be easier / cheaper to maintain & repair.
I thought they left the wood on the mold and popped it off completely.

Beautiful Boat. I am surprised at the thickness and complexity of the foredeck.

You built and owned a Lightning for a half century and you cannot spell Olin Stephens' name?
Beautiful !!!
She is gorgeous,i dream to work in place like this
The music is awesome

Nice boat 💞💝💓
*_ Nyala = a Southern African antelope, with a conspicuous crest on the neck and back and lyre-shaped horns. _*
Thank you for the detail! I wouldn't have known.
Also she is based on Olin Stephens' IMPALA, so the name is also a homage to that.
where i can learn?
Great job
Nice video
prachtig !
It would have made it better to watch if the background music was nice...please keep it in mind for next time.
It was. For me at least.
