The amount of respect and yet encouragement you have for TO is contagious!! Love to see it. And these scenery shots of St. George reflect the landscape that is beautiful yet austere.
Hello Justin, that‘s great and authentic content! Thanks a lot. I just left a „thumb up“ and took an abo. All the best for St. George and best regards from Germany, Michael
Nice drone intro! You picked a good time to head out of Boulder, been so windy here recently. Looking forward to the race in St George! Keep ‘em coming.
Love how reflected and confident you are!! You showed how the big engine works in the heat last year, if your mental game is on point and your legs have a A+ day literally anything is possible.. Thanks for sharing in such a informative and transparent way, appreciate it a lot
I have done STG as an IM twice and as a 70.3 three times. Possible conditions are low 50's water temp, three foot waves, headwinds up to Veyo and again up Snow Canyon, and 90's on the run with full sun. If you are prepared for that combination you will do well. Thank you for the STG video at the beginning!.
Really enjoyed that Justin, the excitement is building for us spectators too! I'd be really interested to hear about your goal-setting process. Earlier this year I worked through an audiobook (Atomic Habits by James Clear) and as a result I'm fully focusing on input goals rather than output goals, so for example rather than "I want to be top 10 at this race" I aim for "10 hours of cycling per week" or whatever. I guess the difference is that your results actually mean something whereas mine do not :D
Haha I hear you! I read atomic habits earlier this year and took a lot away from it. I then read Relentless by Tim Grover which is all about winning. The two made for a nice balance when working on goal setting with my mental coach. We are pretty much 100% process driven and let the results fall where they may- particularly for Ironman racing!
Great video and best of luck. Curious what you guys do with regard to strength work when you are in the middle of a big 2 week camp. I know you and TO work with Erin Carson so it got me wondering…
I haven’t done any heavy loading this 2 week period, just maintenance stuff to stay loose, activated and healthy. I’ll do a little bit when I get back to Boulder with Erin. We lifted heavy for about 12 weeks (3x per week) so nows a good time to just focus on swim bike run for 2 weeks
Hope your training leading up to St. G continues to go well. I’m sure you’ll kill it on race day. I will be traveling through the area on race day on my way to Zion. I want to stop and watch as much of the race as possible but I’m guessing downtown will be hard to access with road closures. Any advice on good spots to watch the bike/run that’s not downtown?
thanks for watching Chris! A good spot could be the top of Veyo on the North side. We climb up through Gunlock and then descend down the highway so you may be able to drive up there from the other side to see us turn down towards town. Also, you may be able to access us off Red Hills Parkway if you park down the hill and walk up.
What’s considered “big” in the competitive tri world? I came from the basketball world. Me being 6’8 220lb was a very average size. At the 3 70.3 races and one full distance I’ve done…I felt like a giraffe.
@@bigjmetz11 thanks for the response man! You rode past me at CDA last year and I thought to myself you looked like a taller dude. Good luck at St George!

Yeah you’re a giant 😝. I’m 6’4 and 175-180lb and one of the biggest dudes out there! But many are similar size like Sam Long, Joe Skipper, Starky, Jan

Who’s wearing see through tri kit at 5:53 and what’s the kit? 🤪
