    Hi, I recently started getting interested in Hoya plants and still learning more about them. I just bought a Hoya Bella, and I want to use the right kind of soil mix for it. I heard a few people had used Better Gro Special Orchid Potting Mix that they got from Lowe’s for their Hoya plants, and I was wondering if you know if that potting mix would be good for my Hoya Bella? If not, can you recommend a soil mix I can easily purchase from the store?

      Hey there! They like anything super well-draining. I have almost all of my plants in a Fox Farm Ocean Forest mixture. Sometimes I throw in some extra shredded coconut husks, but it just depends if I have a bag of them on hand or not :)

    I inherited my mother's 60+ year old hoya. As far as I know, it has only bloomed twice. I have had it in my west facing window for about 5 months. I am just now seeing some new leaves coming out. I don't know what Mom did or didn't do with it. I am hoping I can get it to bloom. Since it pretty much never bloomed for her, she had a photo of the original bloom stuck into the leaves of the plant! I don't want to repot it quite yet, so I will wait for a few more months.

      You are taking all of the right steps! That is amazing that the plant is so old. That's hilarious about the photo

    So once you see the peduncle do you then resume the normal watering schedule? Thanks for the video! I

    • @ByBrittanyG
      @ByBrittanyG  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I do! But honestly, if I'm putting them through a period of drought, I usually just resume watering regardless of flower growth after about 3 weeks.

      @@ByBrittanyG - thanks! I’ve noticed that plant folks often omit this (likely to them) obvious next tidbit. I look forward to watching more videos!

    Does anyone know how to grow these from seeds? Is it from the slower or does it need a seed pod?

    • @ByBrittanyG
      @ByBrittanyG  Год назад

      They do produce seed pods, but they'll need to be pollinated to do so. I've never had a plant produce a seed pod. Curious if others have insight, too!

    I need some help here. Every video I have watched has not answered my ?
    I have had a Hulu rope for 20 yrs and it’s never bloomed. It has 3 extensions and only 1 grows. What do I do

    • @petedetraglia4776
      @petedetraglia4776 Месяц назад

      I would check the roots on the 2 extentions that aren't growing. May be root rot on them. You can always take a cutting from each of the 2 that aren't growing, put them in water until you see atleast 2 to 3 inches of roots on them, and then repot the cuttings with roots into another pot with a well draining soil. They are too many variables as to why the two other extensions aren't growing but I would definitely start with looking at the roots on those 2 specifically. Hope that helped ya.

    How big do these Hoya need to get before they flower

    • @ByBrittanyG
      @ByBrittanyG  4 месяца назад

      It truly depends. My non-variegated one took forever to bloom and was very large. But my variegated rope plant bloomed when it was only in a 6-inch pot. I have found my hoya bloom times are all over the place.

    With lighting, do you think plant lights would help force blooms

    • @ByBrittanyG
      @ByBrittanyG  5 месяцев назад

      If you are in a lower light environment, it will definitely help encourage the conditions necessary for blooming :)

    My oldest Hoya I’ve had for a little over a year now and I’ve asked my garden centre tips on trying to get it to bloom and someone there told me that some Hoyas may take up to seven years to mature (mine started off as very tiny cuttings)

    My moms hoya is very wrinkled, underwatered clearly, and yet it's blooming often. Don't get it lol

      I read that they could also bloom if they’re stressed. 😭

    • @ByBrittanyG
      @ByBrittanyG  Год назад

      I have definitely heard that withholding water, especially in the early spring, can help force blooms! I will say I water my hoyas much less than other plants. I try to wait until *just* before they start wrinkling, and I've gotten tons of blooms this year.

      It’s called a “death bloom” tbey will
      Bloom when they feel like they will die so they can get pollinated and create a seed pod-
      It’s “dying” and will throw blooms as a last ditch effort

    My mom had that plant for over 30 years and it never bloomed she didn’t know it could
    And then one day we smelled chocolate in the living room
    She moved it to a south facing window.. must of been just the random change 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @ByBrittanyG
      @ByBrittanyG  3 месяца назад

      Yes! It probably got a ton more light in that south-facing window. The blooms truly do smell like chocolate.

    YOU SAY ON HEADING WHY HOYA IS NOT BLOOMING YET YOU USE NO FERTILISER WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Fertilizer is generally not a part of my routine and mine bloom like crazy. Definitely something to try though, all plants and conditions are different
