My great aunt gave my father a tiny Hoya Carnosa plant in 1968 when my dad graduated high school. In 65 years he has never re-potted it. My dad cut the plant back just to keep it in a manageable size. Cuttings that have turned into separate plants, have found their way into homes all over the area. Pretty amazing!!
Very informative! Thank you!
I found this video extremely helpful and thorough, 👍
Very helpful and informative, great video.
Thank you very much! It's the best structured information I have ever heard.
Ahh! I just got a few Hoya starter plants, so I had to go find more Swedish Plantguys videos!! Thanks guys for all of your informative and very detailed videos - you've helped me so much to enjoy the plants in my life more :)

You are the best one, thank’s!
I've got this plant more than 20 years and I'm very happy with it ! Specially is very easy to look after. At the moment my plant is full of flowers and I can't wait to see them open ! Thank you very much for your video .🙏🌸🦋
How often do you fertilize your plant? I’ve just purchased my first 😊

Really enjoying your channel. Great hoya tips.
I have one, quite big Hoya for maybe 15-18 years and it flowers every year, sometimes twice per year. I really like hoya´s flowers. and it´s very easy to take a care
Mine never flowered although I gave a slip to my daughter it bloomed.
@@yonokzeller5402 that happened to me too! 😒

Thank you for your thoughtful video, I've just inherited two hoyas and both had what looked like dirty leaves, I've wiped over the leaves with a damp cloth only to see that there's something under the surface of the leaf, while I've still not found an answer it was so refreshing to find a video with and "index" of content which allowed me to go straight to "caring" for this plant, very considerate, thank you for sharing thoughtfully 🇦🇺👍
you can put your plant in thwe shower, it is the best way to remove dust without hurting the plant.
Thank you very much for the great video. Thank you.
Thankyou very much , you explain very well .very clear .
Thank you very much! This is the best hoya video i've seen and it helped me a lot! Greatings from Brazil!
thanks for this. very helpful
I truly needed this video. My Hoyas are very stressed from being in a north room for 4 years. I now have a south facing window
Just discover your video and find it very helpful. I saw a couple of your video about the pumice mix. Can you make a video of potting a hoya plant and how to make the round trial for the Hoya. Thank you.
Love this channel! You did not talk about the Hoya peduncle, so people leave it for the next flower set - very important for Hoya care! Wish list video: Syngonium podophyllum please!
I love Hoya. Plant
I have a Krimson Queen close to 25 years. I love her.
I have one for 19 year thank u for the information
love this vid
Good information
Haven't seen them grown in a circle in a very very very long time. When I started with plants (in the sixties), that was the way the plants were presented in the shops. Anymore they are hanging plants. So when I saw this, I had a fond memory moment. Good information provided. Thank you.🙂
I love the circles. Lets bring them back.
Super helpful! What gauge wire do you use for the wire trellises?
My Hoya is over 50 years old. It is placed beside a window that has an unheated sun room on the other side, so no direct sun. It is trained across the top of the window. It is doing very well considering how little effort I put into it. What I want to report is that it has sent out vines that have sneaked out the door jam into the unheated sun room that can get extremely cold and have not died...wow...I wonder how much cold they can take?..I live on Vancouver Island zone 8a . I bring in all my plants in in fall to keep safe so I’m really surprised that the Hoya did not freeze...(yet...lol).
My great grandma bought hoya carnosa on a harbour market in Antwerp in the 1920-ies. The original plant (100+ years old now) is still with my uncle, and several family members, like myself, have propagations from it. The plant survived WWII because it was placed in the living room, the only place that was heated in the winter.
@@tuttebelleke the stories they could tell…yours is amazing
I would love to buy a cutting from you :)

Thank you for the excellent info! I enjoy your channel and am subscribing!!!! I recently bought a lovely Hoya Macrophylla and it was so dry that the tendrils dried up at the tips. I watered it and it perked up but the soil became completely dry by morning. I gave it another watering and pray I didn't hurt it. What are your thoughts...
Hoya Australis is the easiest of all. I love it.
hi there thanks for nice video
can i ask you what fertilizer you recommend for hoya special for this session thanks
Thank you so much! It is my first hoya carnosa, it grows super fast. Is it very sensitive to the wind? Mine is outside, hanging in a narrow patio in a bright area but no direct sunlight. It gets drafty. It doesn't seem to be a problem but I wanted to make sure of it with an expert. Whenever you have time, please let me know. Many thanks!!
Thanks. Very infromative. What about making a video about Palettblad, Coleus ?
Hello from Puerto Rico. I started a few months with some cuttings and today was trailing them (they have grown very fast outside my terrace) on bamboo. Would like to get more information on which medium do you recommend. Thanks.
Thank you for you vids! What do you suggest using to get rid of top shoot mite? I'll be receiving a microscope tomorrow and will confirm at least one of my Hoya Carnosa is affected. (I live in Italy.)
I inherited a Hoya and thought it needed a lot of light so I hung it in a south facing window. I guess that wasn’t a good idea. I was wondering if I should repot in pumice though, as it has been in the same pot for many years. It also has a lot of dried up stems.
Thank you
I have mine already for 32 years and it is still going strong. I need to repot it and want to guid it to grow up instead of downward , the way it it growing now as a hanging plant. I am scared to do it. The stems are rather woody already and I fear I will have to cut them all off. By the way, my Hoya flowers from February until November continuously ! with lots of flowers all over. It stands in a south facing window with an overhand , so there is no direct sun on the plant but lots of light. Would I be able to repot it into a laverock ?
What did you do to revitalize the one that had lost its glow from sitting in your facility for several months?
Tack för otroligt givande och inspirerande videos!!
Har du några tips på hur jag kan ta sticklingar och föröka från Hoyas!?
Victor Lagerqvist ruclips.net/video/n97oQWrQPmA/видео.html
They can take very cold temperatures, my Hoya is thriving in norther Scotland.
The first plant is about $20-$35 aud here in Australia!
Its 10 dollars US here in the Philippines. Its more expensive if it is a cross or hybrid.
Wonderful video, thank you. I purchased my first Hoya this past summer, read all I could about the plants and tried to follow instructions. When I brought the plant in from outside for winter it dropped all the new growth. I thought I had done something wrong but finally decided it was the relocation. Now after a couple of months in the new location it is happy again showing new growth. Hoya's are sensitive to relocation or was this an isolated incident? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in Spring when all my plants go back outside?
Can you do a Begonia video, all but especially the Rex variety?
How about an episode on Buddhist Pine?
Could you please share the video about Peace Lily. Thank you very much.
Hello the hoyas going and small por for better grow?
I have a couple different Hoyas.
I have a Hoya Obovata and leaves are very dull. Is this common for this plant.
Hej! Jag fick ta över en stor porslinsblomma som var på bambubågar, jag satte upp den på en spaljé över ett söderfönster och allt verkade bra, men nu har den fått 3 gula löv, är det något fel jag gjort?
What is the best potting mix make at home
💚
Hej, jag har en fråga om min krohniana eskimo, den har tappat sina fläckar, kan det bero på för lite ljus eller för mycket? Den mår hur bra som helst annars, växer för fullt. Vore tacksam för svar
Mvh Nettan
Thank you very helpful. Just purchased my first Hoya, a Hoya Kerri. Do you have a video showing how to wire the Hoya into a shape, i.e. heart shape. what kind of wire, how do you get wire to stay in place? Thank you
I was about to ask the same thing!
N C just buy a sturdy wire and shape it to whatever you want. You don’t really need a video....😉
where do youget the rings? I have never seen hoyas growing in those rings
Can you grow hoya as water plant in a jar or bottle?
My Hoya plant cant grow properly what should I do.. any suggestion lpz
Can I order some plants from you? We do don’t have many Hoyas here.
Only bought a month ago and my plant is growing so fast. I was thinking to change the pot but I am going to leave it in small pot.
I’ve had mine for about 4 years, bought it as one leaf on a tiny stem for $0.24. Now he lives in a 24inch pot and has a 6 foot trellis that he has climbed entirely. Whenever I moved to a bigger pot he grew enormously, I recommend it.
T C oh cool thanks for that. I should do that too🤗
Speaking of mealy bugs, where does it come from? How does it even get to a plant? So many videos talk about how to get rid of mealy bugs... but no one talks about how it even starts... I would love to see a video that talks about how and why it starts. Thank you.
Is it OK to plant two different Hoyas in the same pot? I figure they will have similar care requirements and they would look good together. But do they know and not like it? Thank you!
How long it take to bloom
I bought a porcelain flower hoya months ago for $16 and it was about 1 1/2 inches and has never grown nor new leaves. Any suggestions for me please and thank you
May I please ask a much needed question inviting anyone interested to reply if Mr. Plant Guy is busy? I've learned something a bit too late with a few of my houseplants, including my Hoya Australis... not to re-pot them when they're almost root bound - some prefer a tighter pot. My question is, if I have already re-potted my Hoya into a larger pot than recommended (2-4" max) will I shock or harm the plant by reverting back to a smaller pot?
I doubt it would shock it. Keep everything the same. The soil, the light, the water. Change only the pot and as little manipulation as possible. It’s too bad they don’t answer the questions they receive.
I have a Hoya Carnosa that my mother started from a plant that was in our dentist's office. This was back in the mid 1960's. When she died, I took it to my house. For a plant that age, it isn't all that large. In all the time my mother had it, I can only remember it flowering once. (She even took a picture of the blooms and kept that picture entwined in the leaves of the plant!) I have started to trellis it. I have it in a west facing window. At this time of year in my area (December, and I live in Eastern Washington) it is almost always overcast. It's getting direct filtered light. I am hoping to see some blooms by spring! Any tips are appreciated!
Try those clip on plant lights. I have a plant room for winter, brought plant lights and all is well in there.
@@wendelynyoung8609 Thanks! I have it in a west facing window where it gets a lot of filtered light. I see a new branch starting, so I am also hoping for a peduncle or 2 also!
Have you ever had to deal with flat mites on your Hoyas?
If the leaves is lost glow then will it recreate?
If you keep trimming them will they still bloom?
I took your advise on The Pumice rocks but unfortunately i live in Maryland USA and I cant find it
I purchased 3.5 gallon worth. I too live in the US
Where did u buy yours.
I bought a Hoyer plant and did not know about the shiny leaves. You make it sound like they can never shine again?
Does it grow in Indian weather?
Could you rate the Hoyas from ones that can survive the least light to most light? Because I live in a city apartment with very little light because tall buildings block most of the light and my window view is just the next door building
I'm sure you've already found an answer, but just in case: grow lights are very cheap
Hy. I have small brown dots on my ficus llyrata leaves. Do you know what can i treat this please? Thank you
I got my Hoya before Christmas but hasn’t flowered. Is it because it’s young?
Please make a video on the ficus elastica and it's varieties. I'm having a hard time with these "easy" plants.
The main thing I'm having trouble with: I watered mine and within a week the leaves turned mushy. I cut off leaves only, but how do I tell when to water it.
Just saw this video. I'm a newbie to Hoyas. You showed a Hoya that was in a self-watering pot but you said it was in pumice. I bought a Hoya at Lowe's that is in a self-watering pot and it looks healthy but doubt it's in pumice. Do you recommend I keep it as a self-watering pot or empty the water out of it and water when it's dry? Pumice vs whatever soil it came in......that's my confusion.
5-10 euros in a flower shop...I wish! Here one that size is well over $50 Canadian dollars, which is about 35 euros.
I have an almost 40 year old gian hoya that was never pruned. It is massive, and I inherited it this way. What advice do you have for me. Should I leave it this way draping to the floor, or start pruning? Secondly this plant gets some pink leaves and some white ones. Quite beautiful actually. Is that just a different variety?
I think it sounds like a Hoya carnosa tricolour
I’d love a cutting
@@sharonkeef0522 so after cutting do you place them in water? How do they get ready to get planted again? I accidentally cut a big steam! So sad...
Sir, please tell me the potting mix of hoya
Can i propagate the Hoya...
