    It's coming along nicely. Those potatoes look great. Can't wait to see the peas and radishes planted.

      It is. it's slowly starting to look like a vegetable garden. I can't wait to plant them out

    Reet marra but the broken leg of the water but against the fence but not sure where the tap is but a little bit of hose will sort that Barry @2lads at the lotty💚👍👍

  • @ninemoonplanet
    @ninemoonplanet Месяц назад +2

    To figure out how the tap works, a drinking cup/bottle of water poured into the barrel will flow if the tap is one way or another. A one litre jug woul be good.
    Slow and steady, don't let everything be a "must do".
    Choose food your family really likes, let the rest be for later.
    Figure out where you could put a compost so it's actually handy. Compost will begin to balance whatever the soil needs.

      Good idea. That's why I done the spuds first it's the one thing we all like 😂. I am trying not to rush there is just so many things I want/ have to do

    taters looking good . Earthing up potatoes It's a simple process - once the shoots are about 23cm (9in) tall, draw soil up around them to form a ridge along the row, leaving just the top 10cm (4in) of the plants visible. As the stems grow taller, repeat the process several times, a few weeks apart.

      So would I add compost to the bed or just use soil that's already in the bed and it's just for the main crop isn't it

    The round indentation on the side of your water butt is for a pipe leading from one butt to another when its full, just pierce a hole where the indentation is and poke the pipe from the full butt into one next to it and it will fill up from the overflow.

      Thanks I have left space to put another butt so can connect them together guessing there is another kit to do that

    I've been thinking of buying some weed suppressant membrane just to keep the weeds at bay in my back-half of my allotment before I get chance to work it properly. BUT it's dead expensive so I might be going down the cardboard-weighed-down-with-stones route 😬.
    I got Huw Richards book too!
    Spuds look great! I reckon you'll be having a super harvest!
    885 Subs, brother! Great work! Getting there 👏👏👏.

      The cardboard is great it's just rough at the minute but when the beds go down will neaten up just getting everyone dropping boxes off at mine 😂. The worms it attracts is unreal too. I have a long list of allotment books now lol. 885 getting there. Both be at 1000 by the end of the year

    Hi Anthony, regarding the nettles, i would rip them out and put them into a drum of water and leave them to make nettle tea which is a great free feed. I dont grow spuds in the ground anymore, tubs are easier i think.

    • @JacobsonFamilyAllotment
      @JacobsonFamilyAllotment  Месяц назад +1

      I did think about the nettles in water need to come up with some good gloves to pull them out. I should use rain water shouldn't I tap would kill any good stuff off I am assuming. I have seen alot of people growing in them tubs even on plots

      @@JacobsonFamilyAllotment Rain water or tap water will be ok with the nettles. If i am forced to use tap water i let it satnd for 24 hours before using it, it helps dispel the chlorine, or so i was lead to believe. I use nettles in water and also comfrey as well, to great liquid feeds
