Hello! I liked the idea of covering the beds with mulch and covering them from above, as if putting them to bed for the winter. Thank you very helpful tips, good luck👌🌻🐦
I just came indoors from my very wet Welsh garden (Summer 2024 has been a wash out). The weeds love this weather, I’ve done a load of weeding but I’m thinking I need to properly suppress them this winter. The correx tip is great - I’ll be doing that this winter!!
Good morning Niall, I'll catch this later, church in a bit, cool and drizzly here. Hope you're well, thanks for this take care.ohbmy crocus are shooting through, hope they'll be OK.
@@niallgardens hi its freezing -1 ,we had first snowfall last night at 10.15pm, good settling but not deep, can't get warm today, winters really here now, hope you're OK and keeping warm,
We just throw down some broad beans seed and dump some compost on top for winter and coming spring we have food and the soil has bean prepared for spring planting
Thanks Niall, wow that really was well rotted manure, looked good going on the bed. Never heard of correx, a first for me. I do use cardboard like you mentioned, and seaweed, and manure. That correx looks so good though. Lovely calming video, with that beautiful beech background. Great editing thanks Niall.
Love that corex stuff! I actually have some thin corrugated plastic similar to this (although it's bright orange, so won't be quite as good for heat!) that I might try on one of the beds.
Great tips Niall! Not quite got a leaf mould ready but might try actual leaves that have just fallen them cover with cardboard as we have surplus of that!
I'm experimenting with chop and drop for some of my beds this year. I've got a lot of material from clearing dahlias and annual flowers which I roughly chopped and piled on top of the beds like a mini compost heap. It'll be interesting to see to what extent it breaks down over the winter and how good it is for supressing weeds.
Im surprised youre not got winter crops or cover crops going in. Steve from Steve’s seaside kitchen garden-and allotment channel grows loads through winter. Field bean tips he uses for salads and cooking as a substitute for spinach. Then in spring the majority he trims to ground level to leave the Nitrogen not pills on the roots for the next crops to be sewn sowing closer together than pkt suggested.
I'm a fan of using cover crops as well, and certainly I think that'll be next year's plan for some of the beds. Though I also like being able to go with the big 'reset' of the beds too! I have some serious weeds to tackle this winter! 😂
I love this video Niall. What a fabulous New Talent you are! 💚
Aw thanks Liz! And what a fabulous vlog you have too! ❤️
Greetings, Niall, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 ❤️
Happy Christmas 🎄 to you & Kenny.
You must be walking on Cloud 9 after your latest Win!
Hiya Peggy! Happy Christmas to you too! Yeah I'm just delighted about the win - I can't believe it!!

Well explained. Basically, were just putting back what we take away.
Thanks Jeffrey! Yeah that's exactly it - recharging that big battery that is the soil!

It's so good, it really is!

Brilliant video. Thanks
Very welcome Eilish! Thanks!

Go for it, it sounds like a good plan!
What kind of covers are those? And how do you cover climbing beans and tomatoes? Help. Squirrels n birds are everywhere.

Yeah great thing to try! I’ve done a little of that myself too!
Would you do an experiment between covercropping and covering with the black sheet ?
I might think about doing that in the future - it would be interesting for a video

Feed those soil microbes. The microbes in your soil feed your plants.
