  • welcome to our family allotment garden
    on the allotment this week we check on the pea bed that I planted and start making some more partly no dig beds, how rocky and full of glass and rubble my plot is I have to dig before I place my beds down for the future so I can have rook crops in the ground.

    could be slugs eating the roots of the pea plants as they seem to have grown to a decent height.

    Looking like you will have fabulous potatoes 🥔 and yes if you have grass clippings etc just top up under the foliage. My poor peas got battered by high winds and heavy rains 😢. Lovely to see some sunshine for a change. Have a great week, Ali 🌞🌧️🇨🇦

    Hi Anthony, its a mistake anyone can make, leaving the tap open. Shame about the first lot of peas, but these new ones try giving them a high potash liquid feed, and also water them well and often. Potatoes are looking good, the charlottes should be ready for harvesting soon. You wont see Charlottes come to the top mate, they are Determinate and grow at the same level as their tubers, whereas Mains potatoes are indeterminate, and the potatoes grow on different levels to the tubers, hence they push up. Your mains that is flowering, just cut the flower off mate. Love nasturtiums for the bees, the beds will all take shape once you have things planted and you get the paths woodchipped, it will look 100 % different.

      Thanks will get up and give them a feed soon. I can't wait for the Charlotte's. Will try and cut the flowers off the spuds does that make more of the growth at the bottom does it. Yea I love the nasturtiums too hoping the will get attention and the other stuff left alone.
      Thanks for all the tips

      @@JacobsonFamilyAllotment There is an arguement that cutting the flowers off helps make more spuds, but there is no scientific proof of that, personally i dont believe it, i just think it helps delay you having to harvest them from the ground. Your Charlottes are roughly 12-14 after planting, do you know when you planted them ? No worries about the tips mate

    It's really starting to come together. Have you thought about drawing a plan of your plot with all the raised beds, compost bays and water butts so you can make the most of the space?

    Shouldn't you put the seedlings into a bigger pot to grow out more before putting them into the ground?

    • @JacobsonFamilyAllotment
      @JacobsonFamilyAllotment  3 месяца назад +2

      Depends on the plant. I have see Charles downing put most of his things straight into the ground from their original plugs.
