  • Absolutely bumper day down the plot with Jess. Really hope you enjoy seeing the sweet pea frame rebuilt, although at a drastically smaller scale than Steve had.

    I'm enjoying seeing everyone in the UK and Ireland planting sweet peas for this current spring season over there, whilst here in Melbourne, Australia, we're about at sweet pea planting time ourselves, despite it being autumn. We plant now so that they can get a start before the winter months when it'll stagnate and then burst up when winter is coming to an end and it starts getting warmer. Fascinating to see how the differences in climate and temperatures affect what is grown and when.

    • @JBNat
      @JBNat  2 месяца назад +2

      It's common over here to do autumn sowings too! We have some in the back garden which have turned into an absolute jungle already before being planted out. I've just been really behind on allotment sowings 😊

    • @ErraticPerfectionist
      @ErraticPerfectionist 2 месяца назад

      @@JBNat I'm jealous that you can do two sowings! I don't think I could really do spring sowings of sweet pea because they'd likely curl up and die in our heat before they got to flowering 😅

    I was exhausted staggering in from the garden today. Massive catchup after being away on holiday. Lawns mowed and edged, raised beds weeded and mulched, Hotbin emptied and cleaned. Couple of lettuce planted, chillis watered.. I'm not match fit yet hence the staggering...watching you working hard in the garden is so much easier 😁
    That pea frame is such a brilliant feature. I was just counting how much time I've spent planting canes, winding gardening string around them, messing with pea sticks. I'm still considering a raised bed to raised bed arch for runner beans using the same idea. It's been brilliant watching your progress this week!

    • @JBNat
      @JBNat  2 месяца назад

      Had a very similar experience yesterday Chris! I staggered home after starting and then giving up on the raised beds... Passed out on the sofa for three hours 😂
      I'm excited to see how the trellis at the plot and the back garden fare this year. I must say I detest all the faffing with canes and netting and all that. Does my head in!!

    It’s so strange, but only last week I was thinking about Steve from Greenside up as I used to follow his channel and watched the build of the polytunnel and wondered what happened to it and all the hard work on his plot etc. I’ve only just started watching you since you took Jessie, plot 37 to melcourt…..very interesting especially as I’ve been using it for a few years….you have Steve’s tunnel, how wonderful.
    They do get extremely hot!
    I’ve been gardening for over 50 years, but learnt so much from Steve and miss him and all his practical knowledge so much, so sad. Now watching your channel makes me think of Steve and his wisdom. Thanks

Haha half way to Australia 🤣Was gonna say you could use the same kind things you used on the beds the other day, but those sleeper anchors looks like they'll do the job! Hi JB loved watching you ‘warts & all’, you seem to be catching up. I’m really pleased with all my seedlings/germination, but why have all my peppers got tiny black spots on the leaves? Never seen it before and have usually had great success in the past 5 years since we started on our plot. The peppers are about 3” high and look to be quite healthy- apart from the spots! They are on a bright windowsill in my porch - any ideas/ advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

    • @JBNat
      @JBNat  2 месяца назад

      Thanks Heidi! Are the spots on all the peppers or just on certain varieties? Do they brush off with a damp rag/cloth?
      My first thought is surface mould from high humidity or aphids? If the plants look healthy I wouldn't worry too much!
